If I could give zero stars, I would. This was, without question, one of the worst car-buying experiences imaginable. Before making an eight-hour trip each way, I specifically asked them to tell me about every imperfection because I did not want to be out there and be surprised by anything because it so far. I was told by Steven that the car was in "perfect condition." I was assured repeatedly that it was exactly as described. Based on those representations, I invested significant time and money, including travel expenses and a hotel stay, to come see the car. When I arrived, the reality was completely different. The vehicle was covered in dozens of small scratches and dents. On every single panel of the car. Even the roof! It looks like a tree fell on it probably where the large branches didn't hit it, but all the small ones did. Or it got run off the road into brush or the like. Calling it "perfect condition" was not just inaccurate--it was blatantly misleading. It was obvious that the car had substantial cosmetic damage that anyone could see immediately. Steven was unpleasant to work with. He was pushy, snobby, entitled and just plain rude sometimes. After getting T-boned by a car at 50mph into my drivers side door, my car was totaled. I was trying to figure out transportation to New York. He impatiently told me to "just drive it. It's not that far." 15 HOURS. He also told me I couldn't have an auto delivery service pick it up because "I had to sign for it in person." He also told me I could only come on days when he was there and gave me HIS schedule for me to work around?? He also went on about needing to schedule all appointments that "it was rude to just show up to a used car dealership." Ummmm I'd been car shopping at a dozen prior and they were thrilled when a customer pulled in - even without an appointment. He informed he "He didn't know where I went to, but he's a professional." And that's just the highlight reel of correspondence. After leaving without the car, to make matters worse, when I requested the return of my deposit, the dealership was unresponsive and difficult to deal with. Communication became sparse, and obtaining a refund was far more complicated than it should have been. This experience was frustrating, costly, and incredibly disappointing. I would strongly caution anyone considering doing business here. If you value honesty, transparency, and basic customer service, look elsewhere. read more

A lot has changed- the past 2 times I have been there they told me my car needed work and it didn't. Ruge's Subaru - New WRX TR ... Red enough? - Car Dealers Near Me - Rhinebeck, New York

Stay away. They tried to charge me vastly more than other shops for the same service. Most recently they tried to charge me $160 for a three-minute process (TPMS reset) that most shops do as a courtesy. I asked why and was told by the service manager that they had to pay for fancy equipment and valets etc. Why should a consumer have to fund unnecessary crap at an auto-mechanic? It is a Subaru shop, not Porsche. But it is worse. They lied and said only a dealer could do the service. I knew different. I ended up going to Monroe and they did it for free in three minutes (and I tipped the guy $20). They are overpriced and not even marginally better than the average shop. Yuck. read more

When I arrived this afternoon, the place was incredibly busy. The staff worked quickly to get me checked in- I went for a nice walk around town and did some shopping. They called me to let me know that my brakes needed to be replaced and they got going on that service right away. When I got back to the waiting room, I had a comfortable seat while I waited. After having taken our Subaru vehicles to Ruge's for the past 21 years, we will no longer be utilizing their service center based upon our recent experience as well as the experiences of others. read more

New service center was great, but the service was not. 2023 Impreza was throwing a code for upstream 02 sensor so I made an appointment and brought it in. They charged $167 for diagnosis and wanted almost $700 for the repair (if it was mouse damaged and they claimed it was). Pop the hood and look down and you see the sensor (with no mouse damage). Plug in scanner and you see the code. Needless to say, I will not recommend, buy another or or have my car serviced there. read more

Just visited the new service center, got a low battery warning for my fob on a Forester, went for a battery and was informed they were out and new ones would be delivered in several days. Since it is a standard battery I asked if I went and bought one would they install it. This is when Scott H. Said go have a cup of coffee and enjoy the new customer waiting area, he would run over to Williams and get the battery's, 10 minutes later he came back tested both fobs, and sent me on my home with no charge and two new installed fob batteries. We have purchased several cars from them always a good experience. Just took our second vehicle for the airbag recall. Service department was great again. If you are looking to purchase or have you Subaru service this is the deal to go. Update: After looking over my last review in 2017. My opinion on the sales department has changed. In early 2018 my daughter was looking for a car. The cars for sale were not prepped and one actually had a mouse nest on the top of the motor. I dropped my car off on a Monday and it took them 5 days to even look at the car. They kept saying their diagnostic guy was so slammed. My transmission is broken and all I got a as delays. I was visiting Rhinebeck from out of town when my battery died. I got a jump and brought the car to Ruge's on a busy day and without an appointment to get a new battery. They tested the battery and found out it was fine - we somehow had kicked the cargo light on while removing luggage and drained it ourselves. They got us on the road again and didn't charge us a thing for the visit. They could easily have sold me a battery or they could have charged for the service visit. We just bought a Forrester at Ruges and couldn't be happier. We had done our research on kinds of vehicles/options/prices ahead of time, so when we went in we knew what we wanted to see. The dealership is spotless, hand cleaning stations are located by all the doors, and all staff wore masks and stayed distant. The cars are sanitized before you test drive them. This tells you that they respect you and care about their cars. Speaking of respect,everyone who interacted with us spoke to BOTH of us. There was none of that "talk to the husband, ignore the little lady nonsense". We were fully respected. While they certainly told us about various options, etc., there was no pressure to up-sell. We never felt like we HAD to get certain items. The salesman and the person who did the closing were clear, friendly, and helpful. They took care of ALL the details. We never had to go to the DMV. After giving our insurance company permission to speak to Ruges, they took care of that,too. So our plates and insurance were done on premises. Sweet. In addition, the gentleman who gave us our "tour of the car" was superb. He went over EVERY DETAIL outside of the car, under the hood, in and around the seats, and in the "cockpit". Considering that he must do this many, many times a week he was patient and enthusiastic. This is important because these gorgeous new cars have a lot going on. Considering that the car we traded in was 19 years old, we had plenty to catch up on, but we drove out of the parking lot feeling jubilant and confident. We test drove a car on Saturday, thought about it all day Sunday, and went in, signed the papers, and drove home with our Forrester on Monday. It doesn't get easier. When I communicated with Chris about the car he was timely and straight-forward. I had the car in my possession two days after my test drive. The finance department was thorough and quick. We were 3 hours from home and our 2020 Ascent's warning lights, all of them!, came on. We looked them up on maps and more or less dropped in unannounced. They took us right away, came out to our car, hooked up the handheld device, told us the code it threw. They explained the problem, what to do if it happened again (see our normal dealer). They said to drop it off, and they would try to get to it by the following week. What? I have a job. I can't do that. I called Ruge's, and they got me right in. As a family we have been customers of Ruge's Subaru for over 10 years now, and every experience is a pleasure. I bought my first car from them 12 years ago and had a great experience, and my wife recently leased a 2014 Subaru Impreza from Ruge's. When i was ready to upgrade to a new vehicle i knew they were the only people i wanted to talk to. Scott Wallner helped me with everything, i knew which car i wanted and he helped me decide on what trim i wanted and any accessories. The car was a hard to find so it took a while for the car to arrive to the dealership as there was a national shortage! but Scott was able to answer any questions i had while waiting and really made the whole experience extremely pleasurable. I never felt pressured to get anything i didn't want, and i left with such an awesome car - i will definitely be back for my next car (in a few years as these Subarus really last a long time!)
