beef nihari
Tram D.

this place surprised me! when you arrive you are seated and handed menus. after deciding you go up to the counter to order your food. plates and utensils are self serve as well as drinks upon ordering. i got the mango lassi and it was creamy and not too sweet! we started with the samosas which had a perfect crisp to them. the filling was well seasoned and spice. some parts weren't cooked fully though and so it was a bit doughy. for our main we ordered, the beef nihari which was something we've never tried before. when I first tried it I didn't really know what to make the flavor but it quickly grew on me. it was spicy and had a unique flavor I can't really describe. it felt somewhat similar to Vietnamese bo kho. the beef itself was tender and easy to eat. the garlic naan was addicting! so crispy but still a little soft in the middle. garlic was there but not overpowering. my boyfriend and I shared a portion but I was tempted to get more. it was a great meal that warmed us up after getting caught in the rain :)

I finally tried this delicious food. The service was very nice, and in a gorgeous location in the North Beach district of SF. I go the chicken keema w/ potatoes to go. I'd love to try more items on their menu the next time I'm in the area. The food is very spicy btw, wish I love.

Curry Leaf is an Indian and Pakistani restaurant in Russian Hill with flavorful vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The restaurant had indoor seating, good for small groups and you order/pay at the kiosk before your food comes out. The ambiance can be described as casual and the prices are very reasonable. The food is a little sweeter and less spicier than the average Indian restaurant, but the portion sizes are good. The chicken biryani was a good pick and paired well with the chicken karahi. The mushroom keema was also something that was new to me. It was flavorful and was a good pick with the naan.

I've been to SF 3 times in my life, and 2 of those - I've made it a point to eat here because it's DELICIOUS. Their cheese naan is 10/10, try it, and I always get the Chicken Karahi, and their rice is just perfect. It's a bit of a hole in the wall and it really is all about the food. I'd eat here regularly if I lived in the city.

We ordered to go for this India restaurant. Little overpriced only ordered 3 entrees and 2 garlic naan and chicken tikka masala costed almost $68. Garlic naan was so soggy. Doesn't recommended for to go. They gave you a lot of rice but too little chickens. Masala was over power too spicy. Make sure you tell them mild.

Chicken Roll Spicy

Ordered the Chicken Roll wraps and Mango lassi. Chicken rolls were very good. We ordered it Spicy and it had a nice kick. The sauce is also smoky in flavor which I liked. Paired with the tamarind and green chutney, it was very good. Would definitely recommend.

Vegetable Samosa - very good and spicy

What would I do without Yelp!!!?? ;P After spending a few days in SF's Fisherman's Wharf area and enjoying meal after meal of seafood, fish n chip and clam chowder, we were craving something different and Yelp! came to rescue! We found Curry Leaf on Columbus Street and it is somewhat a hole in the wall. The restaurant is smaller, but very clean and comfortable, and seats about 20 comfortably. We walked in at about 6:45p and were asked to grab the menus and seat ourselves anywhere, and to walk back up to the cashier to place our order whenever we're ready. By the time we left at 7.30p, the restaurant was 90% full. We opted for a Vegetarian Samosa appetizer (excellent, and nice & spicy!), lamb wrap (really good( with balanced flavor), and a boneless chicken biriyani (very good and offered at a very generous portion!). Everything tasted very good and prices are very reasonable and on the cheaper side. Overall a very pleasant meal and enjoyable dining experience. Thumbs Up!

Open late, reasonably priced, flavorful cuisine. Curry leaf is a gem. While most people order this place on a delivery app- I think hot and fresh Indian food tastes much better than Indian food cooked 45 minutes ago. That being said ambiance here is no frills but it is clean and the service is attentive. You order at the counter and you have to pick up your food when it's ready. I really enjoy the Bengan Bharta, fish tandoori and samosas here. The bharta is one of the best I've ever had. The fish tandoori is a mix of smoky and flavorful. Samosas are soft but pack a punch. The ctm is good but certainly not the best and the sabzi is good but simple. Overall I recommend eating here and it is worth a stop even at 10p on a Saturday. Nothing I've ever eaten here has been below good.

Saag Dal

Curry Leaf wasn't even our original dinner spot but when we walked by there was such a flavorful delicious aroma coming from the restaurant that we just had to at least stop by for a snack. I'm suuuuper duper glad that we did stop by and try out some dishes because everything was sooo incredibly flavorful and packed with spices. We got the chicken biryani (so many different spices and packed a lil spicy punch too!). The rice and chicken were both not too dry but the rice was really the star with how delectable it was. We also got the saag dal and it was also very flavorful. The spices are definitely less punchy than in the biryani but it made for a great pairing to the rice. Lentils and spinach were plentiful. There were so many other yummy looking things on the menu that I wished we chose more dishes to try but even then we did not finish the two that we had ordered so portion sizes are solid. Service was quick and easy as you order your food up front and then you pick up at the same counter. The restaurant itself is small/mid sized but still with enough seating. I hope to be able to come back and try more things!

Certainly tasty, nice owner, good naan... stingy on protein and heavy on sauce. It's fine and I'm glad it's in the neighborhood.

Pretty good Indian food. Biryani could be better. They make it as people do it at home. It is not as nice as other restaurants.

Service was great, and they were accommodating of one member of our party who had allergies. We were seated against one wall of the restaurant and even though it wasn't private, the size of the restaurant meant it was never too loud. Overall, amazing food and a great experience at Lokma. A perfect appetizer to share with the warm pita, and each dip had its own delicious flavor. The calamari was another great starter--tasty and definitely worth ordering. We also loved the whole branzino--beautifully cooked, flavorful, and delicious with the greens and grilled lemon. Everything we tried was satisfying and full of flavor. I especially love that Lokma has that charming little neighborhood-restaurant feel where you can settle in, share a bunch of dishes, and enjoy a relaxed meal. Definitely a place I'd happily come back to!

Also, the record is absolutely stunning--I wish took photos of it! My friends and I shared the platters family style and ordered the tea leaf salad, platha and dip with chicken, ginger chili pork, chicken with fresh mint, and some coconut rice and jasmine rice. We had the tea leaf salad mixed by a staff member table-side, which was nice, and the salad itself was simply delicious. Quite possibly one of my favorite salads I've ever had because of all of the wonderful flavors that pair well with each other. The platha and dip that we ordered with shredded chicken in the dip was addicting! The chicken was beautifully tender and the dip was packed with the flavor! I was blown away by the nice texture of the platha as well! As for the main dishes, the ginger chili pork was cooked perfectly, and the ginger and chilis added a lovely flavor and punch to the dish. My favorite between the main dishes has to go to the chicken with fresh mint. I've never had a dish like this, and it made me speechless. The flavors were bursting out of this dish and the bold mint flavors made it even more tantalizing. Lastly, I only had the coconut rice, but it was perfectly cooked since it was nice and fluffy, and the coconut definitely shone through. I will certainly come back whenever I have the chance to come back to the city!

The menu is above the cashier, so you just order and pay up front and get the receipt with your order number. They'll call the number out when it's ready. I think there's roughly 8-10 tables, if you decide to dine in. ***OUR PICKS*** We ordered 20 wings with 2 flavors. LEMON PEPPER CHICKEN WINGS ~ lots of pepper flavor but the lemon did not shine. And the chicken meat inside didn't seem marinated and tasted bland. It probably would be better if they added lemon juice after it was cooked or had given us some lemons to squeeze over the chicken before we dug in. 3.5/5 MANGO HABANERO CHICKEN WINGS ~ the sauce was spicy and tangy sweet, but it doesn't seem like they marinate their wings. But what was off-putting was the smell of the wings after we boxed it up and took it home! It had this gamey chicken smell as if it was old chicken. At least none of us got sick, but I'll think twice about revisiting.
