Chilli Paneer
Ram S.

Went back here after a bad experience many years ago. Was very impressed at both the quality of the food and the kind service. They are probably the closest Indian place to Fisherman's Wharf and the Pier-39 area, so there should be plenty of traffic from tourists and visitors. Tried the following dishes: - Chilly Paneer: was soft and well mixed with the spices. Really well done - Poori and Chana: good quantity , fluffy poori and tasty Chana masala - Parrys corner dosa: pleasant with small raw onions mixed in. Comes with chutneys and sambar. Personally didn't like the coconut chutney, rest of the chutneys and sambar were nice Will definitely return back again when I am in the embarcadero area

The food here is delicious! Each dish was very authentic to South Indian flavors and the portions were excellent. The service was amazing, were very friendly and gave great recommendations. The fish fry was a standout dish. It came with 3 pieces which were buttery and very fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great South Indian food!

If you are visiting San Francisco- Fisherman wharf and get the cravings for Indian food... this is your place. The place is conveniently located on one of the main streets and serves great South Indian delicacies. The service is good just like the food. The filter coffee is one of the best I have tried so far. Give this restaurant a chance!

Good food but overpriced! We got the Idli, Mysore Masala Dosa, Filter Coffee, Parota and Potato Sabji - the standard South Indian vegetarian order. The idli was a bit dry, and the potato sabji was bland. However, they customized the mysore masala dosa to be less spicy per my liking. The parota was multi-layered with crisp outer layer - as it should be. Overall the food was good, however, compared to the quality, flavor and price at Udupi Palace, this was a bit pricey. As someone of Indian heritage, I found the ambience to be clean and homely. There was incense, banana leaves, water being served out of copper containers and lots of sunlight (we went for lunch). Service was quick. Worth visiting at least once :)

This place has the best authentic south indian food in San Francisco. I don't mind paying the toll just to eat here. Highly recommend.

We tried the veggie Samosas, lamb vindaloo, garlic naan, and basmati rice. Everything was prepared with care and served hot. Samosas were delicious paired with the 3 sauces/chutneys they provide. Lamb vindaloo was cooked to perfection. Tender lamb, savory and slightly spicy gravy/sauce with potatoes paired perfect with the garlic naan. Ended up taking the rest home and it was just as good warmed up the next day Our waters were kept full and its actually a pretty nice restaurant inside. They have a great variety and a lot of vegetarian options. Will definitely return and recommend if you are craving some bold and fresh Indian food.

A little green leaf flourishing in north beach. This place…read morehas captured my attention, at first I was invited by some crew members that were staying in a nearby hotel. It's located at 943 Columbus Ave , in San Francisco. I make the trip from Marin with no hesitation. I have tried many Indian restaurants in the past this particular place is a better choice in my opinion. Since then the green Leaf restaurant has become my favorite Indian restaurant , I brought other people to the place as well as my own family. The family own business is friendly, has a good energy where the ambiance is apparent, where you would see many cultures brought together at this little place. The restaurant takes to go orders over the phone as well. You will be given a table number once you have ordered. The service is rapid when the food is ready, the self serving counter is kept clean and neatly organized. You can find utensils, plates and napkins ready. The kitchen team prepares the dishes, coordinates the orders at the counter and serving the meals as well. Nadeem and Mohammad Idrish are both kind and respectful, they are attentive to the kitchen and the guests making sure things go smoothly. Recommend dishes are popular with amazing flavors such as , the Tikka masala, lamb Or chicken Biryani , lamb kebab , chicken kebab, lamb curry and the chicken Boti. Yassine C.

Indian & Pakistani halal food…read more As soon as you walk in, you see the cooks, tending to the naan & roti, stirring the pots, all with the ease of seasoned professionals. You smell all the curries. Chicken curry is comfort food for me, so anyplace that's wafting with it is really speaking my language. You'd think that chicken curry would be easy to get right, but no. I've been disappointed many times. But not here. Biryani is another go-to for me, & again it's easy to assume that it's a hard dish to fail. That is not so, but they nail it every time. The biryani's here are moist & full of flavor. They're on the spicy side, even though we request mild, so be warned. Your nasal passages will be clear when you're done! Chicken tikka masala is not something I ever ordered before I met my husband, & he doesn't really order anything else. He is not half Indian like I am, so he gets a pass. Anyway, he raves about the CTM here. Roti & naan...all naan is not created equal. But the breads at Curry Leaf are a hit, not a miss. Incidentally, their papadam chutney (the green one) is the best in town. They should bottle it. You order at the counter. It's bare bones, with no frills. Just authentic Indian food. 4 stars

They may be decent in ambience but fails to deliver in flavour. This place is opposite - very basic in ambience but really good value of money. Food here is reasonably priced and the quantity and quality both are above average. I have been to Raavi in last and my experience was lackluster. But my recent experience was pretty good. I wouldn't say that flavour is top notch but for the money you are spending - I will take it anyday. I tried Karahi Panner and from the looks you can say it doesn't have the same look of Karahi Panner but it was still pretty decent. One of the SF North Indian spot where I don't mind visiting again.

We ordered at the counter, got extra plates and water while we waited for the food. Goat curry was amazing as it was well seasoned and the meat was very tender. It was super savory so it was perfect for naan. Garlic naan was amazing because garlic out of the onion and paneer(cheese) was the best addition to the bread and curry combo. All the naan breads were perfectly made but onion and paneer wasn't outstanding. The lamb saag I would recommend if you like a thick spinach curry Chicken momos were nice and simple chicken dumplings Samosas weren't good because of how dry it was and it didn't have as much flavor even with the side sauces compared to the curry vibe: it had a homey vibe in a nice location of the city. It was clean with a very funny looking water dispenser I'd go again for the goat curry and garlic naan.

Jalebi Street has been highly recommended to me by multiple vegetarian and non-vegetarian friends,…read moreso I suggested it as the dinner portion of our regular try-all-the-bars-listed-in-this-one-book nights (that night's bar was Zam Zam). We ordered a bunch of fried things and enjoyed it all. Very flavorful and well executed. The friends did not recomend the actual jalebis, but I insisted on ordering one because of the name and really liked it.

Jalebi Street might be the most authentic Indian restaurant in San Francisco…read more * Chole bhature (5/5): Soft bhature with well-spiced chole, accompanied by the snap of raw red onion. It felt like I was back in Delhi! * Palak paneer (5/5): So many other places get this wrong, either the paneer quantity is lacking or they don't use mustard oil when making it. Thankfully, Jalebi Street knocked this out of the park. Now, just add makki di roti and I'll be back every weekend! * Vada pav (5/5): To be honest, I'm not the biggest vada pav fanatic, but this is probably the best one I've had outside of India. * Onion kachori (3/5): Good, but nothing to write home about. To be honest, it was a little too spicy, even for me. * Mango lassi (4/5): Not too sweet, with just the right amount of tartness. * Masala soda (4/5): Why is this such a rarity at Indian restaurants in the US when every place back home has this on the menu? It was delicious, but way too expensive (almost 8 bucks). We are definitely going to be back, especially since we committed the cardinal sin of not trying the jalebi at Jalebi Street.
