    Lamb curry
    Sho R.

I took out lunch from here on a week day. The place was empty. They had a parking lot. I took out lamb curry. I added +2 spiciness. Lamb curry was already spicy. I am not sure if I added additional spice to the spicy lamb curry or if it was on top of a milder base version for online ordering. It ended up spicier than I would like.

Great variety of curries and noodle dishes - wonderful lunch option. Good value. Tons of vegetarian and vegan options. Easy parking and small amount of interior seating.

Jungle Curry w/ tofu and rice noodles

Takeout and delivery only during covid, as of May 2021 anyway. I got the Jungle Curry with Rice Noodles and Tofu ($10.63). The curry had really good flavor and the tofu pieces were huge. There weren't too many vegetables and the curry was VERY water-y. The rice noodles weren't a very good idea because they don't soak up anything, so if you get the curry I recommend sticking with brown or white rice! The portion size of the curry is pretty sizeable but they didn't give nearly enough noodles to eat with it since they didn't soak up any of the gravy. I ordered online and it took about 20-30 minutes. It's good in a pinch, especially since they deliver but with the many other authentic curry options around the Madison area, I most likely will not be returning.

    Envy Green Curry. So good!

We tried Curry In the Box for a late lunch on Sunday. We've driven by this place dozens of times and commented that we should try it. I like the name, I think it's distinctive, but I had pretty low expectations. My partner had heard it was fast-food Thai and we weren't expecting much. It's also on University, so getting there can be a pain depending on traffic. The woman at the counter was ready to take our order but we needed to peruse the menu on the wall first. I ordered the Envy Green Curry which claimed it was very Spicy. My partner got the Japanese Pan Curry - little spicy. When I paid via credit card it asked how much I wanted to tip: 15%, 20%, 25% or custom. I'm not sure on the etiquette of tipping when you order at the counter. Other than ordering my food, there'd been zero interaction. After paying, I was given a number and told they would bring it out when it was ready. The space is open with lots of room between seats. We sat at a table near the counter and I attempted and failed to pick up the wifi from the Starbucks next door. We waited for our meals to arrive. I was very pleased with the flavors and texture of my curry. Creamy, smooth, currytastic. It was delicious. I would have described it as a little to medium spicy rather than very spicy, but I still thought it was some of the best curry I have had in a long time. It was loaded with bamboo shoots and carrots as well as peapods, bok choy and basil and was served with a small bowl of perfectly cooked nutty brown rice. My partner's curry was just as creamy and delicious though even milder. It came with a breaded and fried chicken breast as well as a full bowl of potatoes. I don't love the location and I'm still unsure of the tipping, but I seriously loved the curry. I would definitely like to go back and try the other varieties.

    My slivers of Chicken Karee
    Delonda J.

The only reason I didn't give them 1 star is because of how quickly the food was ready and the flavor. I ordered the chicken karee with medium spice. Good thing about it is the flavor and portion-the bad thing is that it was mostly potatoes and onions with slivers of chicken. I'm not lying-there was less than half of a chicken breast in my meal and they were sliced VERY thin. I'm not very pleased that I just paid $10 for it BUT it tastes really good so I'm just a little sad. Curry in the Box-please step your chicken game up so that I can be happy and love you! Worth it if you're craving good curry, not worth it if you want some chicken in your curry!

Some of the best Thai food I've had in Madison. I would 100% recommend this to anyone in the area to go try it out.

The items were preordered by the host - sesame chicken, naan, biriyani, plain rice, saag paneer and butter chicken. I had planned on skipping the meal because I have celiac disease and was worried about transmission of substances I couldn't eat. However I asked to speak to one of the men who'd set it up. He told me to avoid the naan and sesame chicken but that everything else was gluten free. His confidence assured me and so I was able to try the meal. The food could have used a little more spice but was delicious. There were huge chunks of paneer which I appreciated. I am so glad that the staff was knowledgeable about their menu. I have now got the confidence to visit the restaurant and try out the other gf options.

Next thing I knew I was in the parking lot and searching for Swagat. Because it was a Monday night it had only 3-4 tables of customers, so my order was ready before I was even thinking about it taking too long. The service was very friendly and personable as well. Suggestions were made while I was trying to decide what the last Indian dish I last had, and I'm relieved he suggested what he did. Vindaloo. Spicy beef and make it your top spice level. He started to caution me, but I was very intent about my capsaicin intake. Dall was me secondary items, yellow, and only at the middle point for heat. Plain naan. Very simple and direct. Upon returning home the scent was enormously delicious and inviting. The delicate long grain rice was perfectly cooked and such a subtle item to be actually a star on the dish, rather than a simple starch to take up space. Potatoes were large and delicate while firm. Beef, velvety soft and still not losing its texture. The yellow lentils were a bit different than I'd expected. I last enjoyed them ages ago and my recall was that they still held some of their form. These were cooked further down, not in an unpleasant or overly aggressive manner, just different than I was expecting. Delicious. Beautifully colorful, saffron(?) I'm unsure. Naan. Another item that deserves a starring role in a meal. This was far better than any of the recent times at either of the two nearby Indian restaurants that I've been spending more time than I now think I plan to in the coming months and years. Tonight I'm enjoying the food from last nights dinner. Should've taken some pics. But take out meals aren't artfully prepared. So they don't really matter anyway.

Great to share with a group. Chicken Tikka Masala: Always a great staple dish to always order. Chicken was soft and the tomato creamy sauce was flavorful. *Unique dishes Garlic Cheese Naan: I was very excited to try this since they stuff the naan with Wisconsin cheese. It added a bit of a savory flavory and had the right amount of cheese. Pretty much tasted like a light mozzarella pancake. Comes in about 3-4 slices of naan. Great to share with a group. Egg Curry (spice: level 4 medium plus): Comes with 3 eggs? cooked in onion, garlic, ginger and spices. Basically just hard boiled eggs and sauce was similar to less flavorful version of Tikka Masala. Everything we tried was outstanding. The restaurant has two floors which may lead for a tad slower service on a busy night as people go up and down the stairs. I enjoy the throwback signs of restaurants of old. Plants and artwork broke up the space, feeling both open yet cozy. We started with a few apps-bison momo, samosa, and pakoda. The samosa had an incredibly flaky crust that was stellar. The momo was next level. The accompanying sauce brought a little heat but every bite left you wanting more. For our main course, we opted for the lamb kabobs as well as the biriyani. The lamb was executed perfectly-a great char with tender meat, it was accompanied by a nice rice pilaf. The dish was substantial as was the biriyani. Flavor packed, it hit all the notes. For those new to Madison or unfamiliar to the area, Ama is set back off the road with a very small/tight parking lot. We opted for street parking vs. trying to jenga ourselves out of there.
