My dad is from India and he says the Naanwiches from Curry Guru Hawaii is the best South Asian curry he's EVER tasted in Hawai`i, particularly the Chicken Naanwich! The food is so good, and the portions are HUGE, enough to eat half now, and the rest at the next meal. Shaan is a great host, and ask for the green chutney for that extra kick! read more

First time customer...tried their chicken masala naanwich. Found them at the Kailua Farmers Market on a Sunday. Wow...so delicious. The naan is homemade. It's slightly chewy yet soft and soaked up all the taste from the chicken. The chicken masala was so flavorful and went well with their sambal. Will definitely try other dishes next time. read more

The breakfast naanwich was so good, we had the egg cheese and curry one and the aloha one which had pineapple chutney. One of the best bites we had during our family's visit. Would highly recommend stopping by for a naanwich. read more

I came here for the first time after seeing their booth at a Pearl At Kalauao event in Aiea. there was a sign that said home of the original Naanwich. I tried the Chicken Marsala (which was like a yummy curry) Naanwich sandwich for $20. They had kids taking orders and collecting money with their school shirts on who did a great job! With the adults making the food. The chicken Naanwich was really good, a little messy but so flavorful. I'd recommend eating it right away since they are freshly made and the Naan will get soggy if you wait too long to eat it. I think next time i'll try a separate rice, Naan and chicken plate. The serving size was so huge, I could only eat half! read more

Came to a night market at my daughter's school and Curry Guru was there. I ordered a chicken masala naanwich and didn't know what to expect. Oh my goodness, it is so good I couldn't wait to leave my review! Two crispy, gatlicky pieces of fresh naan bread filled with perfectly spiced chicken masala and cheese to hold it all together! The naanwich is grilled on the spot and so it is warm and crispy and delicious! Find this food truck and give this a try. I will be hunting it down to try some of the other dishes! read more

Can't say enough about CGH! Discovered this gem at the Kailua Market today and fell in love and now, I'll have to make regular trips out to Waipahu for the Kottu Rotti. Ordered the spicy mushroom and it wasn't super spicy but had enough heat to add wonderful flavor. The na'an is cut up and cooked up with the KR. At first, I kept looking for the na'an and then realized it was incorporated into the dish itself and first bite - INGENIOUS! As for the service, the gentleman who was working furiously by himself with a long line of customers still was friendly and graciously made recommendations patiently. For the attitude alone I'd support this business but the fact that his food is award winning? Perfect! read more

I have never once had a bad experience eating Curry Guru's food. The herbs and spices always help the food to be tasty and healthful. The ingredients and flavors are well balanced and textured. Shan, the owner, makes a personalized order of Fried Rice with whatever curry you'd like at whatever spice level you'd like!! The Naanwich... I can't say enough good things. Garlicky, warm, savory goodness! If you get to the stand early enough you can even get a breakfast style one with fresh eggs! Moderate prices. ($20ish) GREAT portions. (Shareable even) Fresh food. (Made every morning) Balanced seasonings. (Custom spice blends for each curry) Tasty flavors. (Craveable even) Great service with a smile. (Always a smile!) Wonderfully friendly people!!! (Everyone does their very best to give each customer personalized attention.) My family and I eat here 3 or 4 times a month! Good, Hearty, Savory food. read more

I'm all for supporting local, and I've seen them around at the local food truck /night market events for some time now - figured today was a good day to support a new business and try them out. My wallet and gut say... think HARD again next time. Southeast Asian food is subjective to begin with based off an individual's preference on spice/boldness of flavor; my personal favorite on island is Spice Up and New Kamana kitchen, and this place was unfortunately no where near their level. Large portions, sure... but I struggled to eat even a 1/4 of my plate and opted to not bring the rest home. Ordered a combo plate with Chicken Marsala / ulu curry with rice (for $22) - the Chicken Marsala tastes like it was a few days old, super oily, and very little flavor (quite the opposite you'd expect from SE cuisine). Think boiled chicken with an oil "dressing." The ulu curry (which sounds amazing to try)... was all hype, coconut milk and nothing else. The rice. Yikes. Mushy/clumpy/"been sitting under a heat warmer for hours" rice, would still be better than what they served. Sadly, this review could've been for their food alone, but alas, I give them 1 star purely for their shady business practices. $22 for a combo meal (2 mains - chicken Marsala, ulu curry and large portions of rice) - hard pill to swallow but it's still "reasonable" for what it was. however... $10 for side order of naan!?!?! Shame on me for not asking prices at a food truck that didn't list prices... but shame on them thinking 3 pieces of naan justifies $10. The cherry on top - if u pay by card, they discreetly charge you an additional 4.5%. Why? Unclear. But why not, if business practices are already stretched. My dumb self thought I was supporting local and wanted to also tip to help... I've learned my hard lesson as I write this on the toilet, less than 1.5 hrs after eating. Sorry not sorry, NEVER AGAIN eating here. read more

The Curry Guru was set-up at the Kailua Farmers Market on Sunday morning. There was a long line of people waiting, so I knew it must be good. They make naan sandwiches and bowls. I love Indian food so this was a treat. They offer two meat and two vegetarian naanwich options. We spilt one of the Masala Chicken Naanwiches. The sandwich was about $17 (9/24). Everything is made fresh so there was about a 15 minute wait. The hot sandwich is huge with lots of naan and easily sharable. The shredded chicken was spicy and flavorful. We loved it. Get extra napkins and a fork. It's messy and a little difficult to eat. read more

I first want to say that I ate all the food so fast I forgot to take a photo. I had the Naan-which with chicken at the Wai Kai farmers market a few months back and today my mom got the breakfast naan-which with lamb today at the Kaka'ako farmers market and both times were amazing! It's so much food - I think it's worth it for $20 considering it's two meals! Packed with flavor and everyone working is always so friendly and lovely to interact with. Even as leftovers it was great. You really can't go wrong ordering here. 10/10! read more

I've gone here a handful of times at the Kakaako Farmer's Market. The naanwiches are about $20 but come with a lot (enough for at least 2 people). They're also consistently delicious! The guy who runs the booth is always friendly and makes you feel welcome there. read more

Sri Lanka curry! FTW! Wait, I've never been to Sri Lanka so what is Sri Lanka's curry like? Down the google rabbit hole and... - the curry is spicier than curries of India. - the curry is not spicy. -they use coconut milk. - they never use coconut milk. - the curries use more spices than those of other countries. - the curry uses fewer spices. Each and every "authoritative" statement made by Westerners who claim they have traveled to Sri Lanka. So is this authentic? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Three choices this visit, squash (vegetarian), meatball, and chicken. All three curries taste similar only altered by the flavor of the main ingredient. Thinner than Indian curries. No coconut milk. Mild chili heat you taste but not feel. Very pronounced cinnamon taste (I pulled two cinnamon sticks from the curry) with strong flavors of star anise, cloves, cardamom, turmeric and a plethora of other background spices. All three alone, taste great, mix them all up and it's even better. Turmeric rice, a good base with its hint of fruity notes. Flame grilled garlic butter naan, delish. Coconut chutney adds mild heat to everything. Follow on IG for popup locations and the menu for the event. Cards through square. No tip screen. Note: They are VERY popular and always have a long line. Hit them up first. Authentic or not, something different and good eats. read more

Limited review because by the time I placed my order, they were sold out of the garlic naan bread and could only offer the meatball curry without meatballs (the bottom of the curry barrel). They did offer to put in the no meatball curry (with a lot of potatoes only) with turmeric rice and veggie curry for $10. Maybe if I get to try meatball curry with meatballs one day and I can properly review, I will adjust my rating. This was at the Mililani Craft Fair and they were sold out by Noon. So basically I'm just here to say GO EARLY if you want to try their food. :) read more

Curry Guru Hawaii - Dregs of Meatball Curry, Turmeric Rice and Veggie Curry - Food Stands Near Me

Curry Guru As a Culinary Specialist and longtime supporter, I'd like to offer perspective. Sri Lankan cuisine is distinct and layered, and flavor preferences are subjective. Curry Guru prepares food in small, fresh batches using authentic ingredients and traditional methods. Oil separation in curry and rich coconut bases are characteristic of the cuisine -- not signs of poor quality. He frequently sells out at markets due to demand, so arriving early is advised. Pricing at food events reflects ingredient costs, preparation, vendor fees, and small-batch cooking. Many small businesses also pass along standard card processing fees. Constructive feedback is always welcome, but questions of integrity should be weighed carefully. Curry Guru cooks from the heart, and many in our community value his authenticity and consistency read more

We've come to this place twice now during Pearl Country Night Markets. Hard to come by Sri Lankan food in Hawaii, so I'm glad they have relocated here. Family who runs the business together. The first time we got the meatball curry with rice/naan and it was delicious! Love the unique flavors. Would recommend this dish. Second time, we got the special that was the Ulu breadfruit curry ($16). It was a very small portion than I was expecting. Just some pieces of Ulu with little curry sauce. It was too strong on coconut, very overpowering flavor. The curry to rice/naan ratio was off. I had a lot of leftover rice and naan since I didn't have much curry. Was not very filling sadly. Maybe because it was the end of the night and how busy they were, but I definitely didn't have the same experience as the first time. Overall 3.5/5 rating but I'll review as 4 stars since the first experience was so good. read more

I decided to try something new at What The Truck in Waikele this week, and I am so glad I did! The food smelled so good I had to try it, and landed on ordering the turmeric rice with chicken masala. There was only one person working the booth, but I got my food super fast! I didn't catch his name, but he was the kindest guy and really just made my night. I brought the food home and mixed it all up in a bowl, because the curry sauce makes it really stand out. It was so yummy, and my only regret is that I didn't get naan bread to finish it off with! I will definitely be hitting this place when I see it set up again. read more

Curry Guru Hawaii is awesome! I was unsure what to order and asked Shan to make me a plate of what he recommends and since I wanted to try a bit of everything he loaded my plate with all the meats. Never had sri lankan curry before! I've had both their meatball curry and vegetarian curry. I really like the meatball curry, esp with their sambol!! Also the first time I've ever had sambol. And I love their garlic naan! I've probably got food here about 5 times now. And the owner remembers me from the first time I ever bought from him! Super nice and friendly. They sold out of almost everything the last time I went, but he still hooked me up!! Gotta try it out. It's different from other kinds of curry you can get on the island. I usually see him at What the Truck?! in Waikele every 3rd Friday. read more

Super Ono and authentic curry! The nan was tasty & warm. The garlic flavor on the nan added extra flavor. Meatball curry was my fav!

We stumbled upon Curry Guru by accident. Yesterday, while trying to find the jiggly cheesecake at the Wai Kai farmer's market, we came upon Curry Guru. Are we glad we did! The garlic Naan bread is the best! The turmeric rice went really well with the vegetable curry and did not overpower the flavor. First time trying and will be back for more :) Thank you! read more

First time trying Sri Lankan food and my husband and I were very impressed. It was served nice and hot (literally could see the steam), good portions, and was very tasty. We absolutely loved the coconut sambol! Didn't get a chance to try the garlic naan because my son devoured it and was asking for more. The owner was really nice too. Definitely will be going back.
