Curly's is one of the finest restaurants I've ever dined at here in Buffalo, it's also one of the oldest in Buffalo (81 years). I've been told by Friends, Neighbors and even my Parents about this place, we parked across the street in Curly's parking lot and walked over to escape the heavy winds a blowing. We were looking around and saw old pictures of Buffalo (from the 30's or 40's). Our waitress Amy came over brought our Menus (including the Specials), to start off I got me and my Grandma a Martini (since the Apples to Oranges Cocktail wasn't on there).I got us the Candy Corn Martini (Blood Orange Skyy Vodka, Candy Corn Simple Syrup and White Chocolate Godiva) I'm not a big fan of eating Candy Corn (due to it being too Sweet) but it was Creamy and Rich. We also had some Bread and Olive Oil served on a Slate.
For our Appetizers: Rick got the Jerk Wings (Tender and A good amount of "In your Face" Heat), I got the Gnocchi Poutine (Light, Fluffy Dumplings of Potato topped with Melt in your Mouth Pork, Gruyere was gooey and Nutty and that Garlic gravy was rich and savory). All of us ordered a cup a Black Bean Soup (Had some good heat to it like Cumin, it was like a Chili but without all that Heavy Meat in it and I loved the Raw Onion that added some Texture).
For our Entrees: Rick got the Cioppino (Shrimp, Scallops, Clams, Mussels and Rockfish, which was one of the Fish's featured) it had a nice mild flavor and a buttery consistency, all the seafood was Tender and that Broth had some spicy Heat which I took home to do as I Pleased). Grandma got the Peanut crusted Chicken with a Curried Mango Chutney and sliced Bananas with a side of (Homemade) Sweet Potato Fries with Honey Butter (Chicken was cooked perfectly with that nutty crust, that Chutney with its Sweet/Spiciness complemented the dish and those fried were nice and crispy and that Honey Butter had just the right amount of Sweetness). I got one of the Specials: Chilean Sea Bass over Squid Ink Linguine (tossed in a Tarragon and Truffle Cream Sauce) and garnished with bits of Scallion and Radicchio (Great Sear, fish was moist and flaky, that Linguine with that Cream Sauce had a Fettuccine Alfredo feeling to it, Grandma and Ricky were Skeptical about Squid Ink but when they tasted it there minds were instantly changed plus I loved crunch of the Raw Vegetables).
To finish off the meal I treated for Dessert, (since the Blackberry Cobbler was taken off the Menu) I got the Swiss Roll (For the record its way better than Little Debbie) It was a Baked Almond Meringue filled with a House Made Dark Chocolate Mousse and then dipped in warm Belgian Chocolate with a Raspberry Coulis (I loved cracking that brittle shell and scooping up that Decadent Chocolate that was nicely Rich) and the Coulis (Coulis is a Thick Sauce made from Pureed & Strained Vegetables or Fruits) added some tartness to it.
This was an Extraordinary Dinner, One of the best I've eaten in my life so far. It was actually my first time getting to see what Caribbean Food tastes like. I gotta come back here again as soon as Possible !!! read more
