This is a great place for tasty and unique cocktails and small plates! The atmosphere is comfortable--from the music which can range from old school R&B to deep grunge music. While it's technically a casual atmosphere, it can definitely be a place to dress up for a date night. My favorite drink is the Jitters (which has a strong anise flavor - if you don't like licorice, you probably won't like that one, but if you do, definitely get it). Another drink I tried was the Hawaii Royale which is a yummy champagne cocktail. For food, this is more of a "small plate" type of place. I went to Cure during happy hour on a Sunday (3-7 pm Friday through Sunday). They have a great selection of classic cocktails for $6 and bar snacks for reduced prices. I decided to try their daily punch and my boyfriend ordered their Negroni, as well as their homemade pimento cheese. The drinks were great and the pimento cheese hit the spot! I also decided to stray from the happy hour menu and try a Back to Southside (a twist on a Bee's Knees) and that was exceptional. Had a great time at Cure! I sat on the outdoor patio -- indoors was too cold but the patio was gorgeously lit and very aesthetic. I had the smoked trout dip, the deviled eggs, and the prosciutto sandwich with an espresso martini. The sandwich surprised me with how delicious it was! The devil eggs were very delicate and fluffy; the cacio e pepe definitely added some additional flair. I had the trout last, and it was good but it came with ritz crackers and experientially felt a little bit like the tuna to-go pack you can buy at the grocery store or in a vending machine (although obviously it tasted better). I loved the tiny bottle of hot sauce that came with it! The espresso martini was not your typical take, but it was very good and rich in taste. I ended up only needing one drink. The ambiance is dressier, but approachable. And the drinks! The mixologists here are the real deal. Smooth, multilayered, innovative cocktails that go down like water. Remember - if you have been reading my reviews - when I mentioned that some of the cooler places are found in this part of town? Well, Cure is just another one of those trendy hangouts you'd want to find yourself at on some night. You know it's bound to be a good night when the entrance is a gap between two liquor cases and it leads you in to the sight of a statuesque bar shelf well. I was totally heart-eyes upon setting foot inside. The cocktails are excellently made, the bar layout is impeccable, and they play the swayiest (like when you sway your body to a good song) jams! However, the only drawback, if any, was the service we received. Granted, it was a moderately busy night for a Sunday. Our server seemed so inattentive and at times rushed; showing either little interest to return to our table for a simple follow up or just being very speedy about moving on to something else whenever he would come over. In hindsight, we hardly needed him though and we were focused on our drinks and conversation more than anything. Cure is definitely one bar not to be missed in New Orleans. It offers a true cocktail bar experience without the unnecessary restaurant feel, albeit they do serve tapas style dishes. It really is the mood you want out of a bar, thanks to the music they play. Cure happened to be a favorite of ours and we almost realized that the second we walked in, arriving to the blaring sound of music (Still Tippin by Mike Jones) and a splendid view of the beautifully lit ceiling high liquor shelf wall. Cure has been a favorite bar of mine for several years. Even though I live across town, it's my Uptown bar of choice for many reasons. 1. The bartenders are absolutely top notch. 2. The cocktails rarely disappoint. Like I said in my earlier review, the stuff of genius! 3. Their outdoor patio is dreamy (favorite time of year to be here is Spring, as there's an entire wall of fragrant jasmine gracing the fence). 4. The interior is extremely dark and inviting, with ridiculously comfortable banquets. But you know what? I'll just probably sit at the bar henceforth because the bartenders are top notch professionals who are nice and seem to care about their customers. The same cannot be said for the servers. I was willing to grin and bear it (and have done so after at least half a dozen instances of lackluster service) but a couple weeks ago was the last straw when our waitress had enough 'tude to warrant comment from several members of my group of 7. Full disclosure: my group hadn't originally been on the same ticket as four of us first sat at the bar while the other 3 of us sat at a banquet. We later merged when a table opened up. More people arrived, placed orders either with the waitress (who did a great job of ignoring us, so sometimes a trip up to the bar was warranted). At the end we were presented with one bill. You know what? My days of figuring bills out are over, what with these computers making things so much easier for all of us. I don't need to tell my friends to put in another dollar. I won't do it. I won't do it in a high end place where I'm much more likely to tip 25% but don't expect my friends to do the same. Dig? Besides, I know the orders had originally gone in on separate tickets, so why the merge? So the attitude when asked if I could just get a separate bill for the bulk of the drinks was not appreciated. Nor was it appreciated when told we could just go back to the table to figure it out amongst ourselves. Here's to hoping the table service improves at Cure, but yeah, I'll stick to sitting at the bar if left to my own devices. read more

A two star improvement for Cure? After my previous visit to Cure, I have rethought my dislike of the bar. Recently I went to a small get together here. While the fancy shmancy cocktails do nothing for me, as a bar to hang out in, this is a good place. The bar does have music playing a little too loudly, but not so loud you cant communicate. The table areas are perfect for a small gathering or even a more intimate one. There is an outside patio area with even more seating and the portable heaters keep it somewhat comfortable in the dead of winter. So yeah, thinking back, I may actually be a fan of Cure. Came in on Wednesday night with a few friends and wanted to sit at the bar. Drink menu had lots of cocktail options all around $10-15 (classic cocktails were $6) not too bad in my opinion. They also serve a few appetizer options. Bartender Turk treated us well to some nice cocktails. Each were flavorful and exciting. There are gender neutral bathrooms that are clean and up kept. I visited New Orleans with friends and made a worthwhile trip to the other side of the city to try Cure. Their happy hour cocktail menu was low-priced and extensive, with multiple classic cocktails. I had the opportunity to try the Pimms Cup, Moscow Mule, and Sazerac. All were well made with high-quality ingredients. I also requested a spicy margarita, which wasn't on the menu, and it turned out to be one of the best I've ever had with a good balance of spice and lime. Compared to Chicago and New York all the drinks were a steal! The ambiance is good with a dimly lit indoor space and an outdoor area. The atmosphere is relaxed and conducive to both catching up with friends and entertaining business contacts. The one downside was the extremely slow food service which resulted in us cancelling a pimento cheese plate, but I won't let that take away from a well deserved 5-star rating for drink quality and value for money. read more

Cure has been everything to me in New Orleans. Remember that New Orleans has Happy Hour even on the weekends, so some cocktails at Cure are $6 from 5 - 7. You can get apps such as homemade pimento cheese for $5 and a cheese and charcuterie plate for $11. I usually get the cheese plate and request only cheese. It comes with nuts and amazingly toasted bread. Normally happy hour cheese spreads can be stingy but Cure's isn't. For a place so known for its drinks, I can't stop talking about the food. The smoked trout dip with saltines is so amazing that I've ordered two orders before. It's perfectly balanced and will give you a craving forever. The meatballs come in tomato sauce with a spicy and wholesome flavor. The pimento cheese dip is savory and thick. I personally am a huge fan of the deviled eggs. As for drinks, always try the daily punch. They switch it up every day. Yesterday's was a take off a Paloma with grapefruit. It was refreshing and tasty. After I try the punch, I usually stick with the happy hour daiquiri. I don't really order daiquiris anywhere else but this one is just priceless. It's all citrus with just the right amount of pulp. Cure can get a little noisy at various times, especially weekends. But I have sat in a booth on weekdays, plugged in my computer and worked for hours. I was wondering around Freret street on the way to a beer spot I had been dying to try when the mysterious Cure really caught my eye. I did a quick Yelp and saw it was on HAPPY HOUR. I had a great time solo eating trying to kill time before running off to the airport. I had a free drink during a Glenfiddich promotion. Then I had a follow up house drink that I cannot remember the name of. I ordered the Beet Tartar. The bartender was adamant about making sure I wanted the beet tartar. In the loud restaurant I was 100% convinced I was ordering beef. It t'was in fact BEET. Surprise! It was not a tartar but a piece of 'toast'. Still good but not enough. I ended up needing MORE FOOD. I got the happy hour charcuterie board. I was happy with the size for one person but I would not be open to sharing with another person if I wasn't ordering more food. I will FOR SURE be back for moreeeee. So much yum! I was happy to sit next to some professors from Tulane and overhear their professional issues in the education world. They have a lovely outdoor seating area that is a little haven with plants and privacy from the street. Great atmosphere, beautifully and expertly prepared cocktails! Cure is a really cool place. For me, this is THE cocktail bar in New Orleans. I usually come here for happy hour so I don't break the bank, which is until 7 in which they offer $6 drinks and specials on starters. I've gotten many cocktails here and I've pretty much enjoyed all of them except for one (it was a tequila drink, not usually my first pick, but wanted to step out of my comfort zone...bad idea). This time a friend and I came after happy hour for a couple drinks and some snacks. We enjoyed some craft cocktails and some dirty martinis. They don't have Tito's, so their mid-shelf vodka will run you about $11...the same as their craft cocktails. (also on a sad note, their olives aren't stuffed with anything..ah!!) For the food we got the white bean bruschetta. Oh my god. It was a gigantic piece of toast that was super caramelized and crunchy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside, topped with a spread of white bean puree, some frisée and whole marinated white beans. It had the most delicious buttery hot sauce drizzled over the top. We also got the smoked trout dip served with saltines (not a huge fan of saltines...and for the bread they used for the bruschetta, I thought they could've served it with something different). It was good...the trout dip was kind of like a glorified tuna salad. It had all the same elements, but with an added smoky and saltiness. I love the atmosphere...it is a little dark, so pull out those flashlights and glasses to read the menus, but that's what contributes to its uniqueness. There is an outdoor seating are but I haven't experienced it yet! Came down here with friends for drinks before dinner and it's no wonder this place is award winning! The cocktails were all tasty and the small plates were interesting and delicious. One of the best things about it was the server was happy and willing to answer any questions! This is harder to find than it should be. It was everyone's first time there and she knew what every drink tasted like and made great recommendations. I love when people make themselves experts about what they do! As soon as you walk in, you'll be met by the rule police! As I proceeded to carry myself as I would in any bar, I was quickly approached by staff as my friends and I broke the following rules. We were advised that we can't sit with a party more than 6, can't stand with a drink, you have to be sitting with a party that's under the same check, and god forbid you asked, what I would call a mixologist, if they use a frother, you'll get the "it's not our program lecture".
