Found this gem via yelp reviews, amazing Bloody Mary at the Lobby Bar while waiting, when we arrived we were told 45 min for a table for 7 but was only 20! Menu has too many great choices but our party had a variety starting with creole breakfast with andoule sausage, scratch made biscuits with sausage gravy, house potatoes and poached eggs, simply amazing. Fish & chips was perfect, a veggie burger that my wife loved made from quinoa, daughter had French toast that was delicious another had a huge chicken Caesar salad. We will be back! read more

Amazing food.... This time I had the nicoise, and a bite of everyone else's baked skillet, the classic burger, huevos rancheros... simply delicious! Heads and shoulders above the rest for quality ingredients and excellent execution. There is ambiance, great patio and really excellent cocktails. With family to visit here, I eat out quite a bit in Tucson and for me, this is it. It's not a fast food place, so be prepared to linger and savor the experience... it may take some time to be seated, order and get your food so come with good company and know that they won't rush your table either. read more

We really want to support local businesses, and have had several great lunches and breakfasts here. But it is downright awful this Sunday night. First the server got the soup order wrong, and when the waitress finally brought them out the Tortilla Soups were lukewarm. Then our 4 of our party ordered the hotel salad, one with lox and one with chicken, 2 plain. The server dumped off the food and failed to deliver one of the salads. Turned out he gave the one with lox to the wrong person. It took them at least 15 minutes to get the other salad. My brisket was fatty and not special (though I liked the sauce). THEN THEY TRIED TO CHARGE US FOR THE EXTRA LOX! THey did not offer to comp the late salad, and to add insult to injury jerked us around on the "Titanic ticket:" promotion. We were supposed to get 20% off. The bill only showed 10%, then the manager told us that there was an "8 item limit" on the discount. (Which is not disclosed anywhere else.) I can almost understand the refusal to discount drinks, but an arbitrary 8-item limit for a party of 6 seems ridiculous. Luckily there are a bunch of other new downtown restaurants, sorry to have to cross the Cup Cafe off our list for dinner. read more

This was our first visit to the Cup and we went for dinner to celebrate my birthday. I had heard really great things about it and while some were valid there were also disappointments. I ordered the pan roasted salmon which came atop a bed of blanched greens. The salmon combined with the smokiness of the greens was fantastic. It also came with lentils with pears poached in red wine. I'm just going to say that blanched greens, lentils and poached pears (especially in red wine) is way outside my box. I'm also going to say that I'm glad I went there - my meal was wonderful, I couldn't finish it all and it was just as good reheated the next day for lunch. My husband had a large NY strip steak with bleu cheese compound butter that was so delicious he ate the entire thing - very unusual for him! Our server, Joe was very knowledgeable about the menu, where the salmon was from, how it was all prepared and quite personable. I guess the only real downer was the atmosphere and décor. I realize that this is a historic hotel, but the restaurant could certainly use an update to improve the atmosphere and the comfort level - a little plush cushioning on the wooden booths would go a long ways. Additionally, we were pestered by a very persistent fly for the first part of our meal. All in all, it made is feel not very much like a $100 meal, which it was. read more

Whether or not you're staying at Hotel Congress, you'll want to head to Cup Cafe for a meal. They offer a nice patio area, although it lacks a nice view of anything other than Maynard's and some train tracks. The walls are covered in art but they manage to escape a tacky TGIFriday's vibe. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner you can't go wrong with their menu or full bar with excellent bartenders that I've come to expect from Hotel Congress. Perhaps one reason they gain so much favor with me is their dessert case. They make simply the best coconut cream pie I've ever had. If you haven't saved room, get a slice to go. read more

We've been Cup devotees for eight years. Loved to go there for breakfast. Ambience is quite Continental (well, somewhat). Outside tables, real people and kids, a few dogs, great spot. But (here comes the BUT) for the last year, the quality of the food has been deteriorating: food served cold, rubbery eggs, and cold (ugh) toast. Yes, the server takes it back and tries to make it right, but re-heated food doesn't do it for me. Are they understaffed? Do things sit under the lamp for too long? Do they mass produce their eggs? Don't know, but alas, I think they've seen the last of us and we were always generous with our tips. Sorry guys, great staff but sumpins' wrong in the back end. The Cup Cafe is one of my favorite breakfast and happy hour spots in Tucson. There are a number of options for breakfast and an excellent bloody Mary bar to partake in while you wait for your table. My husband took me to breakfast on my birthday and the chef created a breakfast sampler plate for us each to enjoy including a small yogurt with granola, fruit, potatoes, a mini omelet and piece of French toast. I only wish that they would make this a permanent option on their menu. Overall, the Cup has an excellent atmosphere and great food., and it is definitely worth a try. read more

We go to the Cup pretty often and I will preface this my saying that both the food and service are typically quite good. That being said, both were horrible last night. We basically got zero attention from our server who seemed completely out of it. Also, our food took LITERALLY an hour to arrive and this was only after inquiring. When it arrived both of our entrees were crusty from sitting under a heat lamp. Mine was pretty much inedible (chicken breast horribly dry and flaky, sauce evaporated). The server suggested that that the issue was the fault of the kitchen but we didn't buy it. By this point we were too tired to complain and have simply decided that we will look to the other competing restaurants when in the area. read more

This is a cute little place in downtown with great food and a relaxed atmosphere. Great to drink coffee or splurge on their meals. Staff is friendly too. The drinks are good but during happy hour is the best value. The only downfall is it is very overpriced. A couple drinks an appetizer and the special ran about $82 for one person. There is a mandatory 18% gratuity for parties of 6 or more and that ran my bill to $94. However, the steak was one if not the best I've had in Tucson. Delicious tender juicy goodness! read more

I visited Hotel Congress for a recovery sunday breakfast with an ex boyfriend last weekend -- much as i had when i was in college. It felt like the place hadn't changed (well except that they now have a kids sunday!). I had the nicoise salad and it was great. They also made me a great soy latte. We had a reservation for 18 people on a Saturday night, the place was slammed and I was expecting the worse. Large parties on busy nights can be nightmares, but I was proven very wrong. The service was beyond expectations and was actually excellent. All 18 of is got served exactly what we ordered and at the same time. OK, I've had the baked eggs on my breakfast bucket list for 2 years. Last weekend I actually had them. Sigh. The home fries that were in a tiny cup (I'm talking maybe 12 pieces of potato) were soggy and room temperature. The baked egg(s) were super hot, but the flavor was overwhelming leeky. Now, I enjoy onions, garlic and the like, but this was too much. The leeks pretty much ruined the dish. There was exactly one chopped-up poached egg that was surrounded by a watery sauce and maybe a teaspoon of diced ham. The rest was all leeks, all the time. Pretty bummed. I was totally skeptical before coming here. A restaurant inside a hipster hotel right downtown? It didn't have to be good just to drum up business, and I was expecting total attitude (especially b/c we had just come from hiking in Saguaro NP and were dirty, mussed-up and starving). Anyway, I could not have been more wrong, happily. The hostess and bartender were total pros, and welcoming even though we were clearly not the typical clientele here. Awesome regional microbrews on tap and in bottles. Dinner at the bar was served so fast, and I had some incredible sweet potato tamales, while my partner devoured the unbelievably tender beef brisket. Not cheap, but totally worth it. I'd come back in a heartbeat. Especially since I hear breakfast is darn good. And oh, yes. Let me not forget to mention the epic dessert case, with meringue and cream pies, carrot cake and cheesecakes in all kinds of flavors. Yummy. read more

Great breakfast with the parents this morning at the cafe. I had the Creole Breakfast, consisting of andouille sausage, buttermilk biscuits and spicy white gravy, two eggs however you want em (I get mine over-easy) and potatoes! It was definitely scrumptious, just wish I could have had a little toast or something on the side as well. I had a taste of the bagel and lox which were also great, lox can usually be a hit or miss for me. I'll be back to the Cup next time I've got some vacationers in town looking for a prime breakfast spot! A bunch of the old college clique met up in Tucson for the weekend, and spent most of it eating and drinking at our friend's place, but Sunday night we finally ventured out to Cup Cafe. Cool vibe, and great food. I just got a salad cuz I pigged out all weekend, but I tried my friend's pasta and it was great, and our other friend couldn't stop raving about his herbed shroom. Bustling breakfast/coffee/lunch/dinner place right in the hotel! The service is great, eclectic decor, and the food is amazing. We had a fantastic brunch, with unique entrees. I see that the cast iron baked eggs that I ordered has won an award for best breakfast in Tucson in the past- a skillet award hanging on the wall. I have to agree! This place was awesome! Built in 1900 as the Congressional Hotel it has plenty of charm. We went for lunch and 2 of us looked at the menu and picked the same thing unbeknownst to one another. we order the "Cherise sandwich" cured brisket with pepper jack cheese on marble rye bread. Let me tell you it was fantastic! The third person in our party ordered the cheeseburger and you would have thought that she died and went to heaven. Good for you Cup Cafe for getting it right. Came here for bunch order the biscuits, a breakfast platter with eggs bacon potatoes and a bagel, the tortilla soup and a side of fries. The reason for the three stars: I have had the tortilla soup before and I feel like kitchen dropped the ball with it today. It was super oily and was not satisfying like it is normally. The side of fries were soggy and cold. The aioli that was paired with the fries was plain and didn't have good flavor. On a good note the biscuits were delicious and will have me coming back just for them. read more
