Culver's. That name just either screams a humble eatery from the Midwest... or hardcore Texan steakhouse. It is definitely a name that I will consider for a baby if I continue to live in Texas or even move out to Iowa. But, in this context, Culver's is clearly a simple burger joint, transplanted into Austin. This downhome sort of eatery boasts frozen custard, and generally I assume frozen custard to be far too healthy for my liking. On the contrary, the word frozen doesn't always trigger thoughts of fro-yo, as I soon learned. I actually had to research a little to find that it actually was ice cream PLUS eggs. Going further, Culver's offers a flavor and combination of the day. The chocolate is off the charts. It has a hefty cocoa flavor, and it coats your mouth pretty intensely. Even more, it is pretty dang cheap, and they normally give you a free serving if you fill out your prior visit's survey. There is something going on in this Midwestern Burger and Custard revival, and I would say that this joint is heading the charge. Oh, and they are cranking out cheese curds. If you're craving the best fast food burger this side of the Mississippi, you'll probably find it at Culvers. The name Butter Burger says it all. After seeing Fast Food Nation, it's a stretch to willingly go out of my way to eat a fast food burger, but if you're going to take The Plunge, you might as well do it here. The fries are alright--they taste a bit too Ore Ida for me--and it's really hard to go wrong with any kind of shake or frozen custard. I llllloved Culvers! I'm just disappointed that I've lived around the block for a year now and only JUST NOW tried Culvers for the very first time(cause I had a coupon of course!)! The lady taking our order didn't ask what we wanted on our burgers or if we wanted double or single burgers. So we ended up with dry double burgers that completely fell apart when trying to eat them. The only good thing is the delicious cheese curds. I doubt i will come back just for that though. I had never heard of Culver's before. Then ironically on the way to the gym I saw a billboard with a giant chicken sandwich for a place called Culver's. With all the chicken sandwich controversy lately, I had to check out their website to find out more. Turns out they are a fast food chain that originated out of Wisconsin and have a lot more than just chicken. They are mostly known for their burgers and frozen custard, so thats what I went with. I ordered a Cheddar ButterBurger and a side of cheese curds. The burger sounds really unhealthy and not appetizing, but it was pretty good. It was similar to the burgers at Steak and Shake. I also enjoyed the cheese curds which isn't too surprising considering that is a Wisconsin specialty. My GF ordered the Sourdough Melt and also enjoyed it. I never had frozen custard before, probably because I also thought the name custard was unappetizing. But it turns out frozen custard is pretty tasty, its kind of like a combination of ice cream and gelato. Being a fast food chain I went into Culver's not expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. It's like a hybrid of Steak and Shake and A&W. I later found out the founder of Culver's bought an A&W and turned it into his first Culver's restaurant, so the similarities make sense. I'll definitely return to Culver's when I'm in a fast food mood, and will definitely hit the gym hard to burn off that "ButterBurger". read more

It's a great fast food restaurant that serves solid burgers, chicken sandwiches and even fish sandwiches for those who are tired of the traditional fast food joints. The Meat: It definitely has flavor to it and it's still way better than the national franchise fast food joints (McD, BKing, Wendy's, JBox). Also, it's not as salty and oily as other FF burger joints. The Bread: no complaints here The Fries: I'm not a huge fan of crinkle fries (i know some people are), so this kinda knocked some points off for me. My thing is that the crinkle fries at Culver's are thick and end up tasting way too starchy for me. I've never had their custard, so that's something to consider. I might be inclined to add a star again if their custard is as good as I hear it is. It's not as good as P. Terry's, but it is better than Freddy's (at least the burger is). read more

Had a pleasant dining experience here during the lunch hours. The associates were very friendly and the menu offered different selections of delicious items. The establishment was clean and well kept. Our food arrived quickly and the cheese curds were fried to a perfectly crisp and golden brown degree. The sandwich was perfectly assembled and the toppings were of good quality and fresh. The burger patty itself was slightly bland during this visit though. As a resident of South Austin, I've been meaning to check out Culver's for a few years now. but alas, it was just outside my sphere of "close by" spots and the desire was never strong enough to go out of my way to eat there. Enter a new southwest Austin location for my family's abode -- with Culver's only a few minutes away. clearly in the new "close by" sphere. suffice to say, years of mild anticipation were greeted with mild enthusiasm. I had a regular butter burger. it was ok. not bad. fries were pretty solid. my boy got a little cup of custard with his kid's meal and that was pretty solid. wife had the root beer and failed to mention if it was phenomenal. for me, culver's seemed like just another fast food spot -- doing little to distinguish itself from whataburger. and by that I mean "not bad" for a fast food burger, but not in the same league as a real burger place. I don't really eat much fastfood, but I do eat at a lot of "burger joints." Unfortunately, in my estimation, Culver's resembles the former, not the latter. Culvers is not fast food, it's good food served quickly ;) Culvers looks like a regular hamburger franchise but I assure you the food is better quality. The menu is more extensive than most fast food restaurants. The prices range from 5-10 dollars but most items are well worth it. The butter burger with cheese and very good. You can tell they make their meat to order and the meals always come piping hot. The fries are delicious and always hot and crispy. They have custard and daily flavor of the days. Culvers hands down beats any other fast food restaurant. You get what you pay for read more

Its me again. Just went to get my order cost refunded after jumping thru hoops on the phone w/one of the owners, Elaine. She did everything she could to avoid refunding $14.??. Jaiden(the manager) and staff were very nice. Got my refund. Based on staff I would go back but based on dealings w/one of the owners, Elaine, I won't be going back again. She doesn't have any idea about what the word "hospitality" means and that she is in the hospitality industry. I usually eat at culvers 2 to 3 times a month. Not anymore. All I have to say is yum. Culvers is by far the best burget joint on the southwest side. It easily compares to some of the old school favorites downtown like Sandy's. It has that classic burger feel with all sorts of goodies on the menu including frozen custard. For those of you who don't know its like something between ice cream and frozen yogurt. But who cares....its great and so is a large marjority of the food. I've never eaten at one of these places before, and I honestly thought it was a full restaurant instead of a fast food place. Even so, I was pleasantly surprised. The women who took my order (Glenda I think) was probably the most friendly and professional individual I've ever encountered at a fast food place. She used words like, "Sir", and "Ma'am", and she smiled like she genuinely liked her job. She also gave me some suggestions for what to order, which I liked. I also noticed that everyone here is constantly moving. When no one is at the counter ordering, they're out cleaning tables and checking on customers. Food was good but their attitudes stink. I ordered pot roast plate to go in their Culver plastic sack. I ordered two butter burgers to go also which came in their own paper sack put into my last plastic sack to go. I looked in the plastic sack but no fork for my pot roast! I asked a cashier for a fork because I did not see fork in plastic sack! I ask her to just give me a fork, but she made a big stink that my fork was in the sack with burgers. This place has WONDERFUL tasting food. Yes, it CAN be calorie/fat laden, however, if a person possesses "common sense" (which of late seems to be genetically suppressed as seen in some of the slammer reviews of this place) and eats here early in the day and has a salad and a SMALL strawberry shake for dessert, one can diet nicely and still have the wonderful taste of Culver's. I allow myself one "treat" per day on my diet and it is the strawberry shake (under 500 cals). My other meals total 1300 calories for the day, so I do painless dieting. my loss this year? 25 pounds, with Culver's shake daily and avocado salad once per week. Well, OF COURSE you don't eat just before going to bed and you do have to eat in moderation, but it has made dieting painless for me. read more

We ALL lined up behind one register while loud talking and much laughing exited the back of the restaurant. They messed up with my husbands food and he was polite about having them fix it but the manager had an attitude and rudely brought the food back to us. These burgers are really great and put all other fast food joints to shame. Talked my hubby into doing an ice cream run tonight. I like Culver's Custard, the custard is good, thick and creamy. And their flavor of the day is usually something yummy like strawberry cheesecake or some such. I've never had the burgers here, I go here every once in awhile because I like their custard. Their sundaes are good, easy and I don't even have to get out of my car. Whats not to love? I went to the Culver's in Three Rivers, MI for the first time. I love Culver's but normally go to the Sturgis one! This one had particularly great service and I highly recommend going here! I went during a power outage that was county-wide, so drive-thru lines were nuts at every fast food place. I went inside, ordered, then filled up my drinks. I had enough I needed a drink carrier so I looked around for one briefly. The manager (or someone else looking like a manager) came over and said "Are you looking for a drink carrier?" and got me one. This was in the middle of a dinner rush, yet he took the time to help me. Then, I went to my car, put the food in, and tried to hold the drink carrier and get in, but it started to dump. (As everyone should know, don't hold a drink carrier with one hand off-balanced, it will dump.) I stepped out and it dumped all over me and the parking lot and I heard a girl say "Is there any way I can help you?" She had seen me struggle and drop my drinks and came to help while STILL in a dinner rush. She got me the same drinks while I cleaned soda off of myself and helped me get the cups thrown away that were strewn on the ground. All in all, a great experience and great food. Thankful for the team there that was working hard yet took time to assist me. I highly recommend Culvers always, but especially in Three Rivers! read more

I lived on the Wisconsin/Illinois border so I grew up with Culver's. When I first moved to Austin it was the one thing I missed. One day I was craving it so badly I decided to see where the closet location was-just out of curiosity. I can not tell you how excited I was to find out there were 2 locations in Austin (both in kind of out of the way places). I order the same thing every time I go. Chicken tenders kids meal with cheese curds instead of fires. OMG. If you have not had their chicken tenders you need to. They just melt in your mouth. And the cheese curds... fabulous. Thick breading, some sort of herb seasoning. The kids meal comes with custard too (and tokens which if you save up can get you swag or a free kids meal). The first time I drag a friend along with me they always scoff at me ordering a kids meal but I'm always stuffed after (and I can eat a lot) and contains everything I love here. Believe me, you come here once you WILL be back. Just ask all the people I've dragged there. Small hint- the Culver's on Braker has buy one get one free kids meal on Saturdays. No customer service or hospitality whatsoever. Also the cashier repeatedly couldn't remember our orders after we had just said them so we had to repeat what we said multiple times.
