Visiting Franklin we were recommended to try new spot on Main St - wow what a delight! This was a cool diner for many years but the transformation to a "cultured" upscale dining spot is amazing! We ordered from small plates menu: crispy St. Louis ribs & cannelini soup- ribs had mustard glaze & were fantastic, as was the soup. We shared a wood fire pizza (Fiorentina) & it was also delicious. Fresh local ingredients & creative menu items made this a great meal!

So I've waited until I've been multiple times to review. I've been here 3 times now, and I love it! Atmosphere is great for almost anything, service is always top quality, and food is fantastic. I've heard people complain about the prices but I would say for the quality of food that the prices are very reasonable. I love what this place brings to the town of Franklin. Looking forward to the next visit!

Kitchen closes at 9. Bar is open until 10. Unfortunately walked in at 9:05 and didn't get to try the food. Bar service was nice though.

Once the server came, we ordered appetizers, then he wanted to know what we wanted for our entree. We said we wanted to wait, as we all hate when we are eating our appetizers, and the main course comes. 3 times he came and asked us if we were ready to order. Umm. No, there are still appetizers, and yes, we told him we'd order when we were through with our appetizers. Finished the appetizers, had to ask the waiter for water 2x. Ordered main dish, our friend ordered the special which was on a chalk board when you walk in. About 5 minutes later the waiter says we're out of the special. She asked to see the menu. He didn't offer it. Our dinner came out about 2 minutes later, and she had to wait another 8-10 for her dinner. If you knew you were out of the special - wouldn't you hold the rest of the tables order so everyone could be served together? Once we all had our main course, as did our friend had to ask for steak sauce twice. Didn't see the waiter again. The hostess came by once. Once dinner was completed, the waiter brought the check and let the dirty plates on the table. The hostess came by and asked how the food was. And said "I'll get your server to clean up these dishes". Never did. Once we said No thanks for dessert - he was gone. At first we thought It's Easter Sunday - they're busy. Nope, only 3 tables full. And as we left, we noticed the special was STILL on the chalkboard. If you're out - cross it off, or erase it. Not a difficult step. The food itself was "good" but not excellent. We have been 3x now since they opened, and probably would not go back.

The space itself is genuinely grand, well-decorated, comfortable seating, a nice billiards room, and (maybe the highest compliment you can pay a pub) no old-bar smell or locals that make you feel out of place. The bathrooms were clean. The whole place was clean. For a neighborhood spot built around long conversations, it delivers. The drinks are the reason to come. The Riesling on the menu was good, and the winter bourbon (infused with apple), actually tasted spirited. What I appreciated most: no snootiness. Some Scottish and Irish pubs get precious about sticking to the house whisky program and gently disapprove if you order a cocktail or wine. Not here. They let you drink what you want to drink. Service was friendly and checked in at a good cadence. One note: the food came out way too fast. Appetizers hit the table, and the mains arrived about a minute later; we barely got into the fried cheese curds or tandoori fries before everything else was competing for space. The tandoor twist on the fries was a fun surprise, but generally the food read as average pub food. The salmon was dry (lesson learned: order it medium rare next time). The mashed potatoes on the shepherd's pie were the real highlight. 3.5 Stars. Credit where it's due: the menu is wide and actually vegan- and vegetarian-friendly, which is rarer than it should be in a pub, and there is a general playfulness in the atmosphere. What would push it higher: food that matches the level of the space, the excellent service, and the drinks. Pace out the courses, the salmon needs help, and strengthen the dishes a notch. We'll go back, just not for the salmon. The room, the drinks, and the staff all brought their A-game. The kitchen brought a B-game.

Everything about the restaurant was so special, amazing location for a sunset dinner, perched high above the Blue Ridge Mountains - amazing views. The best thing is if you stay at the Skyline Lodge, it's just steps away from your room and that comes in super handy when it's brunch time! We were fortunate enough to enjoy these two meals; dinner & brunch with our kids (who are foodies too) and they are now huge fans of Oak Steakhouse. They said it was the best steak they ever had, you can't go wrong with the Filet! The menu is not huge but really has all of the dishes you would want for an amazing dinner. Plenty of options, even if you don't eat steak. Amazing sides to accompany each dish and you must start with the bread, which is made in-house. I went with a dish I have not tried before and it did not disappoint, Venison Wellington while my wife tried the trout. I will let the photos do the talking. They also pour an amazing espresso martini by the way and to finish you have to try the chocolate cake, trust me! We also want to give a shot out to all of the staff and servers; their attention to detail and overall service was outstanding! Seems to be the case at all Indigo Road establishments, they really know hospitality. We cannot recommend Oak Steakhouse enough, even if you're not staying there but in the Highlands of NC make sure you give them a visit.

Our server was very friendly and (unprompted) comped our bread service after a lengthy delay. Once received, the bread was amazing and went nicely with my lettuce wedge salad. The entrees were excellent as well, with my wife loving her risotto and my steak frites being top notch with fork-tender beef and amazing truffle fries. The portions are generous so to-go bags are a common sight. Oak is not inexpensive, but clearly the value is there if you are looking for a proper steakhouse experience near Highlands.

Once you go up the stairs, you can see this is an upscale establishment. There's a nice bar area, piano playing and well around 10-15 tables. The interior is quite nice, though it's a bit bright inside for fine dining. We sat at the bar and had great service all night. Drinks were well made with quality ingredients. One strange thing... the kitchen is at the end of the bar and avail for all to see. While this is a positive, it's a bit small and I question how it'll scale if the restaurant was full. Of note, the dish cleaning area is next to the kitchen - also in the open and is a bit noisy. Not a huge deal, but worth a mention. To the food - we had 2 pasta dishes, the Carbonara and Pistachio pasta. The Carbonara was good, but the Pistachio dish was amazing. The menu did a poor job of explaining what's in the dish, but the staff was able to fill us in. It was a cream sauce with sautéed onions, prosciutto and crushed Pistachios. The flavor was fantastic. The wine list is pretty basic with few red options. This area needs some work. They should also allow a corkage fee to permit folks to bring higher end wine. The folks next to us had the Bruschetta and Lasagne and said both were great. Nice new addition to Murphy that will only keep getting better as they work out the kinks.
