TERRIBLE! I'm all about supporting mom and pop businesses. My dad has come to town over the years and liked this spot and I've never been a fan. The other day my husband wanted to go so I gave in. I know they pride themselves on the "home cooked" feel. Well it was just plain terrible. I would of rather had Denny's or IHOP then this horribly undercooked meal. This was the worst breakfast I've ever had! Tasteless crap! The potatoes were damn near raw The veggies were raw and just hot raw veggies The " omelette" was a fried egg on top of raw veggies and a slice of kraft cheese. Not stuffed with veggies and cheese a freaking fried egg placed on top. I didn't finish it and honestly would of asked for my money back but I didn't want to cause a scene it was too early for that shit. Save your money I'm sorry to say but this place SUCKS. Third time is MY LAST TIME! You will not take a single dollar from me anymore. read more

Cully's Restaurant - Not good at all :( - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Poway, California

Slow disinterested service, cold food. We were seated quickly, and served coffee. Then things went south. The server was brusque and rarely available. My husband ordered the Mexican machido plate. Was supposed to be accompanied by tortillas. He was almost done with his meal when we finally saw the server and requested them. She slapped them on the table without a word. My biscuits and gravy were cold. As much as we want to support local businesses, we won't be back to this place! read more

Food was mediocre. Service was horrible, the waitress was not attentive whatsoever. She brought me my food and then never came back. Waited 30 minutes for my breakfast. I would not go back. read more

Thanks stranger for ease dropping on our disappointment when we heard one of the waitress from Original Pancake House advise us that it would be a 45min to an hour wait. So the stranger left and told us that he was heading to Cully's in Poway. From there we decided we will follow them and thank goodness we did. So close to home this little treasure of a place tucked away in Poway was a golden treat. A small family owned hole in the wall breakfast joint. They served breakfast all day and it feels like you're at home. No more do we have to wait in a crazy line Cully's is our place to go for some yummy fluffy pancakes and all the heaven's morning glory. Thanks to the stranger we now will be part of the family. Great warm welcoming service Constant Coffee Refill Yummy wake up food read more

We moved in the area 1.5 years ago and finally tried this place. We were looking for a place that has that home-y feel and this is exactly what it has! The staff are all very friendly and the service his quick. We didn't have to wait but noticed that they turn tables around fast to make sure guests get seated as soon as possible. My husband ordered the Eggs Florentine with home potatoes. It was tasty and very filling! I ordered the French toast with bacon and scrambled eggs. It was pretty delicious. The bacon was soooo good.. They were not too thin and not too thick. they were cooked perfectly! Bring cash if you do not want to pay the ~$0.35 charge to use your debit/credit card. Luckily I had cash today ;) We definitely will be back! read more

This place is cute... very out dated decor, but its a mom and pop shop... so You can't really expect much in decor. The place was packed so I knew that was a good sign. As a friend and I were waiting for our water we were watching the food come out and how BIG the portions were!! The food wasn't memorable, but i t wasn't horrible. I know that I enjoyed my meal except my biscuits and gravy.... The gravy was super bland but the biscuit was nice and fluffy!! Maybe if I had sausage with it they would have been better! I would go here only if I was in the area... I Yelp'ed breakfast when I was in the area and this was the closes restaurant in our location. read more

Unbelievably dirty place! That's the very first thing that comes to my mind. Their tables are dirty and sticky. Coffee cups are placed upside down on those dirty tables and they flip them over for people if they want coffee. Food tastes ok, nothing special. Portions are huge (not sure if it's a good thing or not). Prices are reasonable. Staff is very friendly. Very fast and good service. I'm just not going to eat there anymore - especially when I noticed someone's left over lipstick on my son's cup. Eww!!! read more

Cully's Restaurant - Found someone's lipstick on my son's cup. Eww!!! - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Poway, California

#2 All-Time favorite hangover breakfast (#1 is in Santa Cruz so this is the best in SD) HUGE PORTIONS! I always get the vegetarian omelet with bacon. Their homemade salsa is spicy and delicious. The servers are "real" and don't pretend that they like what they do. They're friendly but don't bother them, there's only two for the whole restaurant. Don't worry, they know you need more coffee or more water. It's on the way, I promise. The biscuits are unbelievable. Home cookin' at it's finest! If you can clean your plate, you've consumed enough calories to last you a few days. **DISCLAIMER** You can only pay cash. They have an ATM thing attached to the register that lets you withdraw increments of $20 but you have to pay an extra $1 for that. read more

I would give them a 4th star but the place really needs a make over. Call that guy from Restaurant Impossible or something. The carpet is truly nasty looking and the wall paintings are simply blah. But we didn't go for the decor, right? The food was good. I had the biscuits and gravy with eggs, hash browns and bacon. It's a lot of food, well prepared and tasty. The only thing I was a little disappointed with were the biscuits themselves. They just didn't feel fresh although the gravy was pretty decent (having spent most of my life in the South, not many places can beat the B&G from Tennessee). My wife had an omelet that was huge with tons of delicious, thick cut ham. Everything on her plate was well prepared and tasted great. My son had the Mickey Mouse pancake. Any time you a kid eats the whole pancake without even thinking about asking for syrup, you know that's a good pancake! Paying is a little weird... BRING CASH!! I wish I had read some of the reviews addressing this before. I won't rehash it here. Overall a good experience which we probably will repeat. If the owner reads this: PLEASE CONSIDER TAKING OUT THE CARPET. It would make a WORLD of difference in your business. read more

Yelp brought me here in my search for a casual "homestyle" breakfast place. Over all, the food was okay. Nothing outstanding or special. The homefries were the best part of the meal but everything else was pretty forgettable. There were a lot of regulars and the staff were very friendly and talkative with them. For us, not so much. They weren't rude, just very cold compared to how they treated the other patrons. read more

The food was mediocre at best. Favors seemed bland. Large servings but who cares when it has no flavor. My girlfriend got the biscuits and gravy with eggs and ham. The ham saved that dish. I got the bacon cheeseburger. That was not very good at all. The service on the other hand was great. Very welcoming, helpful and friendly! Would I go there again? No. I would prefer to either go to the The Original Pancake House or drive to beach and go to Pipe's. read more

I think it is important when going to Cully's to set your expectations for the place. Decor is nothing to write home about.... more Diner meets early American Maple kind of look... though the photographs on the wall are quite nice. The place is small and you can see into the service area, so don't expect too much for ambience. But then you come here for food right? And lots of it. The service is very helpful and friendly. The owner is always there, drinking a cup of coffee and often enjoying some of the food himself. What really shines here for me is the breakfasts. Great potatoes. Pancakes are quite good. And the Poway Omelet is great. Ask for the real salsa on the side. The omelet ingredients seem very fresh and I am able to order it with egg whites only. Coffee is not bad. Sort of like Denny's. Parking is never a problem in this mall. read more

Low quality crappy food. The service wasnt terrible but overall thoroughly disappointing

This morning on our way back home from our visit to San Diego we were on the hunt as usual for the best breakfast place in town. We decided to try Cully's from what we read and the pictures displayed. It really looked like the exact place we are always seeking for breakfast. Cully's is located in an outdoor shopping center and from what I could tell it still seemed to be exactly what we were looking for. As we entered the restaurant we were greeted by a friendly older gentleman and were seated quickly. The decor and atmosphere took you back to an old school Mom & Pop Cafe. I was really looking forward to my breakfast! The service was quick and friendly. I ordered the Steak and Eggs with O'Brien potatoes, my husband ordered Eggs Benedict with O'Brien potatoes. Our order came fairly quickly and I was ready to dig in! It looked delicious!! With much disappointment my food was bland and tasteless. I thought if I added A1 sauce it would at least add some flavor. When pouring the A1 sauce it came out fast and watery. I am almost sure they diluted the sauce (maybe to save on cost). The best part of my breakfast was the toast. I only ate enough to put something in my stomach and left most of the food behind. My husbands Egg Benedict was just as bad and the English muffins under the eggs were hard and very difficult to cut through. I would not recommend this restaurant. You would be better off looking for an alternate choice. The two stars are for the service and hospitality. read more

Very local diner spot perfect for breakfast. We were in the area heading to poway railroad park and figured we should fuel up prior to our day at the park. This place is located in a strip mall plaza with ample parking. We were greeted as soon as we came in, and my wife and I felt like all the patrons heads turned our way, maybe a sign that this place is definitely frequented by locals and they were just checking out these unfamiliar faces lol. The decor was very homey and makes you feel like you're eating at grandma's house. Some might say a bit of updating might be needed but I say it gives this place character and comfort. The food was decent - we ordered a couple of chicken fried steak & egg plates w/ biscuit, veggie omelet w/ sourdough, and a short stack with bacon. Would've preferred that the breading on the fried steak not fall apart easily, and that the hash browns were a tad more crispy plus a side of fruit would've been nice. But overall flavors were good, eggs and meat cooked well, oh yeah their coffee was definitely two thumbs up! And their service was quick and attentive. Would consider coming back if in the area for some breakfast/brunch they're only open till 2pm. And their prices were reasonable too. read more

Staggeringly friendly service, above-average breakfast food, comfortable atmosphere. The menu, while extremely conservative and traditional, is produced competently by the kitchen. Pancakes were fluffy and hot and had a nice crispness. Omelettes were well-seasoned. I agree however with the reviewer below me who says that this place needs a makeover inside. The carpet and decor and wood has slipped below charming into disgusting. read more

This is a great little breakfast place. Food is not amazing (ie nothing out of the ordinary), but it is very good typical American breakfast fare and the portions are huge. We loved the casual, local atmosphere. You could tell lots of locals regularly come here to eat. read more

Cully's is a Poway ESTABLISHMENT. This place has been around forever. I've never eaten there for any meal but breakfast, but maaaaaaaan, it's good. So good that the wait is always atrocious. I love their pancakes, but what really causes my cravings is their home style potatoes. Their prices are reasonable and the portions are large. The service can be a little slow, but what do you expect with 5 grandmas waiting on 100,000 customers? If you're going to check it out, go early or go on a weekday. But GO! read more

The service was great, the food was even better I will definitely return in the future when I am in town again.

Local joint older crowd for sure lots of regulars but cash only People here is really warm. Our server was running around taking care of all tables at the time. I swamped him quite a bit by the coffee refills. The food was OK but very cheap. read more

I had biscuits and gravy with 2 eggs, hashbrowns, and bacon for $6.95. Hashbrowns were great. the buscuits were more like a cake and gravy was just ok. The bacon and eggs were good. What drags the star rating down is the place is kinda boring and carpet is nasty. The service was above average. The ackward part was paying at the register using the debit system they have in place. Basically treat it like an ATM machine that gets paid from the register. I hit the $5 back option thinking it was my bill amount plus the $5. I was wrong. read more

This was very disappointing. The meatloaf sandwich was a complete failure. The bread was so tough you couldn't cut it with a knife and fork without throwing the plate a toss the table. I ordered the chili. It was Denison's. We will never eat here again. Sorry Cully's. read more

One of the biggest problems one encounters is finding a great breakfast spot when moving to a new area. My quest has ended. Okay guys, i'm gonna sum it up to the best of my ability.. 1. friendly service. and its GENUINE, not the fake always-smiling kind of stuff you get elsewhere. 2. large portions. not huge necessarily, but the perfect amount. 3. good prices. this morning i paid $24.40 for french toast, biscuits with gravy, obrien potatoes, eggs benedict, bacon, and two drinks. not bad. 4. "homey" atmosphere. once again- everyones friendly. theres lots of regulars. all the staff and customers are friendly, and my boyfriend says this place reminds him of "back home" (he lived in the South). 5. yummy food. best french toast i've had in years. 6. downfall? they charge you for using your debit card, and using it is a somewhat complicated process. I've only been here twice now, but I will definitely be coming back :) read more

Quick service and big portions! The Denver omelette had large chunks of delicious ham and a generous serving of freshly-cooked The biscuits and gravy were a little bland, I was expecting more from the reviews I saw on here. One tip - bring cash! In addition to a $1.50 fee to use your debit card, my bank charged me an additional $2.50 since Cully's antiquated card reader shows up as an ATM withdrawal on my account for some reason. So that's a $4 surcharge just to use a debit card - not great! Aside from the card fees, the service was great, the food was fast and plentiful, and I will be back. read more

We are all over going to a restaurant and feeling like we're in a small town. All of the servers act like real people. *GASP* WHAT? I know. None of this plastic, squeaky voice, false happiness crap. For instance, this past Saturday I asked for some sour cream. The guy said "You can't have any. We are out." I like that. It wasn't "I'm so sorry. We don't have any more. Would you like to speak to a manager?" No fuss. Amen, Brother! Oh, and the food ain't bad, either. Portions are great. I usually split with someone. read more

We were welcomes by the old dude with open arms even though it was busy. The service was brisk, efficient and polite. Been here a few times since our first visit and have no real complaints. The heuvos rancheros is amazing. They don't ask how you want your eggs, which I like as they simply know how to cook them! The price is really reasonable except the sides don't correlate. $7/for a huge meal then $3.25/for a side of hashbrowns? Anyway, I pay it. Ken Shamrock was eating here when he was training g for the Slice fight. If it's good enough for him, its good enough for me! I'm sure the result was not due to the food! read more

-1 star for decor It's old. Just old. -1 star for questionable "jokes" while I am trying to eat. I do not care that the Chargers are not so good. The joke had something to do about a feminine care product and the Chargers only being good for one period. Ew. I am trying to eat. Otherwise, the service was excellent and the food was yum! If you can just enjoy the food and pay no mind to anything around you...as in...pretend you are bubble boy and eating breakfast then you have it made. I will go again and order something different. I wanted the buffalo patty with eggs...but they were out of buffalo. So I opted for a chorizo breakfast. Definitely not like mom's but will do in a pinch. read more
