Me and my family tried this place after reading the reviews and friends suggestions. We are new in town so we've been trying to find the local spots. I was so disappointed!! First of all our server was NOT wearing a mask! Neither was the older gentleman who may be the owner. It is a small restaurant and there was absolutely no social distancing at all. All the tables were literally a few feet apart. I actually found myself worried while I was eating about their sanitation practices. The food didn't even make up for it. It was less than mediocre. I was in the area on a Sunday morning, and I always like to try a local restaurant. Pros: I got much more than I was expecting. I misread the menu, so I was surprised that my order of biscuits and gravy plus bacon ($9.95 as of 10 April 2022) ALSO included potatoes and eggs. I opted for what they called Potatoes O'Brian, which is potatoes with onions and green peppers. Not being a fan of peppers, I asked for just onions. They did not skimp on the onions, and they were cooked just how I like them. IMO, some of the potatoes were overcooked, but it did not detract from my eating all of them but one small piece that was overcooked. I like my biscuits and gravy. My standard will always be the long-closed Tyler's Taste of Texas. I am very picky. Cully's gravy wasn't *bad* but for me it's no great shakes, and it struck me as overly thick. But as lackluster as was their gravy, the biscuit was outstanding! I opted for scrambled eggs. I think they were on the griddle a bit too long, but I am picking nits. Bacon. I am ALL about the bacon. The two strips were just the way I asked for: crispy. They were a good length, and while they weren't particularly thick, they weren't paper thin like what most chains serve. Now for the Cons. Never. Ever. Make me get up and ask for a refill. It was all the more annoying because the staff (about four!) was gathered en masse and chattering away. This is a huge "thing" for me, and seeing the staff chattering away while my water glass is empty in their line of site was particularly annoying. Overall, my experience was positive. The food was adequate, and there a goodly amount of it. Should I find myself in the area again, I would consider coming back and trying one of their burgers. read more

We enjoyed the hearty, simple breakfast we got from Cully's. This definitely feels like a place that locals would frequent. The restaurant was almost completely full, which I took as a good sign. The food is no-frills but handled well. I got the short stack breakfast, which was pancakes, eggs, and bacon. They are more than happy to make a Mickey Mouse pancake for kids, complete with a whipped cream smiley face. The decor is a painfully dated 70's country-western theme, but I found it somewhat charming. A man who I assume was the owner (or manager) came by our table more than once to ensure that we were happy with everything and was quite friendly. Came here on the way up to Julian for brunch not knowing what to expect. This place is tucked away in an old strip mall. The inside is pretty old as well. Our hostess was pretty funny. He could've been my grandpa and was trying to make my friend and I laugh. If you don't have a sense of humor, I could see how he could be offensive to some. We were seated within 5 minutes. My friend and I ordered the Denver omelette and a stack of pancakes to share. Holy moley the portions are huge! My favorite part about the omelette were the huge chunks of ham. I was honestly scared the ham was going to be slim and lame, but this place proved me wrong! The omelette was made kind of funky - I don't think the filling was encased in the eggs, rather the eggs were on top of the filling. Who cares, it tastes great! We also got the O'Brien potatoes as our side. I highly recommend those. The pancakes were a little gummy but fine to eat. Just regular syrup at the table. Great family place for breakfast and lunch. Old Diner that serves big portions with little fan fare. I've eaten here twice, both for lunch. First time I tried the meatloaf, which came with a choice of potatoes - i got fries, soup - homemade clam chowder, and a side of green beans. The meatloaf was moist and delicious, however the gravy sauce tasted like it was from a can. The clam chowder was light on the clam and cream, so it tasted more like potato soup. The green beans were from a can. Total was 10 bucks with tip. Second time I came here I had the liver and onions. The liver was actually quite tasty and huge! It came with choice of potato, soup, veggie, and biscuit. Soup was a bean soup which was nothing too extraordinary. Biscuit was fluffy and warm, but again the green beans were from a can. Total came to be 10 bucks with tip also. Overall this place is a bit old school and a bit unremarkable considering they've been in the area for such a long time. Wow What a great little hole in the wall for breakfast. Hidden away in a little strip mall this small hangout for Poway locals serves up some great plates of food. Open only for breakfast and lunch its a great place to grab a bite after getting your car washed next door at Body Beautiful car wash. The Machaca Plate is very good with home made potatoes w/onions and bell peppers. The home made salsa is outstanding but a bit spice for some. (I Like It Hot) . The Biscuits & Gravy are big fluffy home made biscuits and sausage gravy. The gravy could use a little more salt and pepper but good just the same. Their breakfast sausage is very flavorful and not your typical sausage. You better bring a big appetite though because they give you a huge plate load of food with each order. (We brought half home) The service was good. The place could use a bit of updating but so that's why only three stars. If you want that hometown feel and hometown food this is the place for you. It's considered one of the best breakfasts in Poway. I thought it was 'okay'. I had the huevos rancheros which were pretty good - but not better than I could find in most strip-mall Mexican fast-food restaurants. My wife had an omlette that I thought was mediocre. My daughter had oatmeal which was awful. I've seen soups with less water. It's absolutely impossible to screw up oatmeal. But they achieved the impossible. I eat oatmeal and multi-grain cereal several times a week and I usually make it in a microwave. Cully's oatmeal was so watery that my daughter didn't eat it and I brought it home in a cup (we hate to waste food). Before reheating it, I had to pour off about 1/2 the contents which was grey water. Even then I had to add oats to make it look like -- uh oatmeal. The coffee was the probably the worst I've had in years that wasn't (or maybe it was) - instant. I drank a lot of it anyway. I know this place is popular but I don't think I'll be back. I rank their breakfast behind Franco's Flapjacks and The Hamburger Factory. read more

I had lunch today in this restaurant. I was in this place before and I knew the food is not bad but service is not terrific, but today my expirience was terrible. I found a hair in my omlett, I called a waiter and show her the hair in my plate. She offered me another omlett. I refused because I already ate half of it and was full. I think, I can have some discount for bad food, and I asked an owner about this. He accused me saying I always do the same trick and it can be my hair and they are shaved and do not have hair problem. It was so rude, whole my day was ruined. Do not go to this restaurant if do not want to have an omlett with hair and then have a slap in the face when you try to complain and ask about satisfaction. By the way nobody is wearing mask in this restaurant and tables are very close to each other. I do not think it is a safe place. read more

I came here for breakfast with my boyfriend on a weekday. We were greeted by the host/waitress and she was very friendly. We noticed that everyone that was there knew each other. Which we thought was great. I ordered the chili and cheese omelette with hash browns and my bf ordered the chorizo and egg with O'Brien potatoes. It was all so delicious and not pricey at all. This is our solid go-to for family style all american breakfast. You would never expect the grandma's living/dining room type eatery in this plaza and hidden away behind the shaded doors. It's in a nondescript shopping plaza with other small and older businesses. You walk in and it's like taking a time machine back to the 70s?.. with the farm house kitchen decor, old wooden table and chairs.. and large farmer sized helpings of pancakes with syrup, eggs, bacon, and every time else in between. The prices are low and the servings are generous.. most important the eggs aren't overcooked and the pancakes are always fluffy. The few times we have gone.. there's a kind old grandpa sitting in the back.. reading his paper and having his morning coffee.. We love the ambiance and the decor and the food.
