MeetUp's Fun Diego Ladies brunch

This Nutmeg Bakery & Cafe is located on Danielson Street in an Industrial Park. Honestly, if it weren't for the signs along the streets pointing to a cafe in this area, I would have never guessed/expected to come across this on my own! I ordered an Oat Milk Latte and the Nutmeg Scramble. One of my friends also ordered the Nutmeg Scramble and I couldn't help but notice that her slices of pineapple and cantaloupe were more than twice as large as mine. Also, hers came with a nice biscuit whereas mine was missing it. When I had inquired about the biscuit, they gave me 2 pieces of buttered toast. Our cashier/server said they were short on staff and only one chef was in the kitchen, so that contributed towards the slowness of food being brought out to our table and the inconsistency in plating. My Oat Milk Latte was rather sweet, so I asked for a cup of ice and turned it into an iced latte, even though my preference was a hot beverage. One of my friends ordered the Snickerdoodle Pancakes and I had a bite of it. It was light and fluffy, and was sweet enough that maple syrup was not needed. For a coffee shop that is located in an Industrial Park, it had a nice ambiance on the inside. There are tables outside with umbrellas, but I would suggest sitting inside for a cozier feeling.

This place is so cute!! I always drove past it and decided to stop in to grab a coffee and LOVED it. The service was friendly and quick. A lot of people were there having breakfast so I would love to come back and try more. If you're in the area, stop by!

I believe this is their newer location, and it is located in a business park area. There is a sign out front so you know which drive to turn into. This location is much less busy then the others, so that was great. They have some fresh bakery items such as scones, cheesecake bars, etc. They have a breakfast menu that is decent sized but they do not have the same items as the other location so definitely take a look first..I usually get the nutmeg scramble but have them add hollandaise sauce on it, but due to this menu not having benedicts they couldn't do that. I opted for the hash, but did it with carnitas instead, which was an off menu option the told me about. It normally comes with briskett and i might try that option next time. It was pretty good and it got me full as I couldn't quite finish it. The server was really nice, and attentive. The food was delivered fairly quick, and i also ordered a cherry flavored Italian soda which I enjoyed and would get again. Overall this is a nice spot for breakfast, but I do prefer the other menu and pastry options at their other location.

Stumbled upon this place when my mom and I had about 30 minutes to spare and were hungry. Holy cow was the food GREAT! She got the quiche and I got the quesadilla with meat (forget the name of it). But both were insanely delicious! We got it to go and we both wished we had more time to enjoy this little space. It's so cute ! And woman at the front was gentle kind and very helpful in helping us make our selections!

Lemon pastry amazing!

Had breakfast at this place and we loved it! Affordable, they make their own bread, all Sorts of goodies, pretty, great coffee, good size menu, and great food! Did I mention they are also opened for lunch! Definitely coming back!

Espresso Chocolate Chip Scone

Wow this scone was amazing and crisp but soft on the inside w/o being dry. What a treat!! I also had their Big Bad Wolf but asked for French bread instead. Tasty sandwich with salty meat balanced by sweetness of the apricot jam... delicious. Service was helpful and fast. Nice ambience with a cafe feel plus the outdoor seating. I'm still craving their scone!!

We went to check out the new Nutmeg location. We used to go to their Scripps Ranch location before they relocated to this new one on Danielson. The decor is modern and clean inside with a small patio outside. The place is new and pretty empty at 10am on a Friday morning. Ordered the chilaquiles and it was really disappointing. I do not recommend this dish at all. It's plain with a lot of melted cheese that started congealing into a big mass over the soggy tortilla chips as it cooled. And the refried bean is served separately as a side and looks very unappetizing. I ended up just scraping the cheese off and picking the tortilla chips out. My friend liked her shashuka. The Nutmeg Scramble was also good too. Service was good and we were checked on a couple of times while we were there.

Love coming here for my morning coffee and pastry. Try the cinnamon roll warmed up, it's the best! Staff is always friendly and super sweet.

Stuffed French Toast: Brioche, cinnamon ginger custard, sprinkled with powdered sugar and served with syrup. Churro and chocolate.

Nice place for breakfast and early brunch. Food is delicious. This is a sit down place but you order at the register then your order is simply dropped off at your table.

Nutmeg latte

This place is cute! The folks behind the counter are friendly and kind. The food hasn't been the best experience. We got the French toast and although it was delicious, it was quite burnt, almost black. We got a butter croissant and it was so dry/stale that we genuinely couldn't eat it. It was like gnawing on a rock. Their nutmeg latte is quite delicious, however both times we have been there it has taken almost 10 minutes for the coffee to be made. I'd like to try the other location to compare.

Florentine Omelet

Enjoyed our breakfast and service was fast and attentive. The potatoes were nice and crispy and the omelet was perfectly cooked. Plenty of parking. The area is pretty quiet since it's located in a warehouse business street. Would definitely come back again!

If you're looking for fresh delicious French pastries and bread this is the place to be! Wow…read moreeverything I had was so perfect! I knew I had found a good place when I couldn't even find parking in the parking lot on a Saturday morning. There was a line out of the door and most tables outside were occupied. I certainly did not mind waiting one bit when it's good! The variety is big, everything looks so good you want one of everything. From pastries to sandwiches, bread and salads even dressings and also merch! What a hidden gem! Staff is super friendly and very informative. The sweet girl helping me was so nice and was able to answer all of my questions and her suggestions were great. I will be coming back again and again for sure!

They have fresh crepes Sat/Sun 8am-1pm! Theres a cute stand outside where you can also watch the crepes being made. Ham, egg, cheese, & spinach crepe (7/10): $8.50 for base crepe + extras for add ons. A bit expensive -- not as authentic as the crepes I've had in France, but they are filled reasonably. Wish they were a little crispier! Turkey avo BLT (7.5/10): didn't blow my mind but I still enjoyed it. Good amount of turkey & avo and you can request it toasted! Chicken curry croissant (9/10): lovedddd the flavor. Raisins added the perfect amount of sweetness. The croissant itself is perfectly buttery and flakey! Apple turnover (8/10): would be perfect if it was a little warmer. Generous amount of filling & I liked that it wasn't too sweet. I'd get this again! Almond croissant (9.5/10): SO GOOD. came fresh out of the oven and was soooo flakey & the filling wasn't overpowered by the almond flavor. I'd get this again!! Jalapeno and cheddar sourdough (9/10): SO fresh & they offer to slice it for you. a little spicy and savory & great to eat on its own too! Will definitely come back to try other pastries! Tip: pay with cash to avoid the $0.50 credit card fee LOL

I see they've revamped the walls upstairs and seem to have added more seatings too. I noticed they have a water dispensary area which is self serve. There's also a QR code for the menu, but I went ahead and searched the menu online and was helped by Tristan when all my friends have already placed their orders. He made sure to ask how I wanted my eggs done and if I wanted to add anything else. But also orders can be placed using the scanned QR if a server hasn't had a chance to check on your table. I ordered the avocado Benedict with hash. My friends ordered the chilaquiles and french toast, and a bunch others that I didn't get to take a pic of. However, I was able to try the chilaquiles, and the steak on that was so flavorful, the tortilla chips were nice and crispy, and the sauce in the bottom had a slight kick to it but with the mix of crema it helped balanced out perfectly. As for the cinnamon brioche french toast, that was one of the best French toast I've had in a while. Nice and crispy but still fluffy in the middle, with that nice cinnamon flavor, topped with whipped cream and berries. As for my order of the avocado Benedict. You can choose how you want your eggs cooked, and I had mine poached. Can def. Add other proteins to the dish with extra charge, but I wanted to keep it as is. The brioche bread was fluffy and buttery like too, it was great for absorbing some of that hollandaise sauce and yolk. My friends also ordered two bottles for mimosas. We had lychee and mango syrup/puree and it gave such a tropical and summer vibe. We also ended our meal with some desserts. We had the cream puff ube, cake choc brownie, and cheesecake caramel apple. My fav. Out of the three, was the cake choc brownie. I think I would be able to eat two of those if I wasn't full. Just loved how the chocolate mousse on the top melted in the mouth, but also that brownie isn't the typical brownie texture. It has a crisp to it. The mousse and crispiness just melts so deliciously together. I should've ordered another for takeout. Service was great despite it looking busy. Food didn't take too long to come out either. But we also did dine in at a decent time too. We had such a good time, especially for my friends who tried it out for the first time. I see they also have a dinner menu now. Maybe we'll come back to try that next time!

I love the spaces that feel like indoor/outdoor seating and it's very relaxing to look at the palm trees and plants out the window from a cute little booth. It makes me excited to take people when they come into town because it's more of a nice vibe inside. I would definitely want to bring kids too so they could try the little mini golf room that's only an extra $1 to play - how cute is that to have something like that, so much love! I wish I could give as much praise for the food, but I really felt it was just okay. First off, it was a little concerning the staff couldn't tell me what the ingredients were in some of the food like the tortillas because they just didn't know and there's no ingredients listed on the package from wherever they get it from. So for someone with allergies I'm not sure if I'd recommend this place since that seems to be a factor. Also when explaining the allergy for my family, staff couldn't understand the difference between yeast and gluten, which made me nervous to order anything that could be potentially messed up. We ended up getting something small just to try the food but I was bummed how greasy/oily it was. I had to keep asking for more napkins because I was just trying to get it off my potatoes but it felt like there was almost a pool beneath on my plate. I won't lie, I was a little disappointed. Everything tasted just okay, like food you would get at a typical restaurant like Dennys, but here it is more expensive. The orange juice was good and fresh but the food itself just tasted pretty typical, really nothing special. So I'm a bit torn. I truly loved the ambiance. But I just am so bummed out by the food. I'll probably be back to try it one more time and get something different just to give it one more shot, but after that, I'm just not sure...

The first three things that came to mind after dining here were high quality ingredients, the customer experience/ambiance, and attention to detail. Eddie who I believe is the gentleman who runs the place was my "cashier" he provided the two recommendations photographed below (I am not a photographer) but I can tell you they were both out of this world. The Prosciutto & Fig, Toast and the Allen's Tuna Cool and Tasty. The staff was warm and inviting, and though this is a coffee shop, they came around table to table, customer to customer and asked how they were doing, and if there was anything they could do to make the experience better. You just don't see that in a coffee shop. This place is an entire experience and it's clearly built around highly effective culture. I will drive out of my way to come here, I discovered this place on a whim and will now be regular. If you get a chance, whether you're a local, or someone just visiting "Cali" give this place a try you won't regret it, ask Eddie about his story of how this place got started with him and his three daughters. I'd be willing to bet you'll add it to your rotation and become a regular yourself.

The eggs and hash browns were mediocre at best, and the bacon was so overcooked it had the texture of a chip and was way too salty. It was all fine, just nothing special--something I could've easily made at home for better taste and a lower price. The menu overall felt overpriced for the quality, especially since most items were $17+. Customer service was fine, but nothing stood out or made the experience better. The food did come out quickly, which I appreciated, and our drinks were refilled in a timely manner, which made the experience smoother. The one true highlight was the sourdough toast--it was actually really good. For comparison, places like Broken Yolk Cafe offer breakfast-style meals at a lower price with comparable (or even better) quality and portion sizes, which made this restaurant feel overpriced for what you get. Their website lists prices as $10-$20, but in reality most items I saw were $16+, so the pricing felt higher than expected and feel that should be updated ! That said, I personally find this place a bit too pricey for the overall food quality.
