Overall good experience at the Nutmeg Cafe in Poway. We decided to go there for brunch with some work colleagues. This is a smaller location with a condensed menu from the Sabre Springs location. So don't expect to find the pancakes on this menu or the large assortment of baked goods. They serve lunch sandwiches and some breakfast items. Somewhat hidden location. So look out for the signs. I ordered an iced latte it was good and also ordered the waffles breakfast plate. The berries that were on top of my waffles were delicious. They were tart and sweet. The plate also comes with eggs cooked to your preference and choice of sausage patty or bacon. Minus 1 star due to our order came out at various times. There was more than10 minutes between when the 1st plate and last plate was delivered to our table. So we waited for everyone at the table to have their food and some were eating cold food. read more

I just found out this place has been open for a year, and I can't believe I didn't know about it until now! Turns out they relocated from the Scripps Poway Parkway location, which used to be one of my favorite cafés. The new spot is tucked inside an industrial unit--you wouldn't find it unless you noticed the sign out on the street or if you're looking for it. Inside, it's super cozy with comfortable chairs, and the staff is absolutely wonderful. My latte was delicious, though I wish I hadn't had to ask for a "for here" cup. This Nutmeg Bakery & Cafe is located on Danielson Street in an Industrial Park. Honestly, if it weren't for the signs along the streets pointing to a cafe in this area, I would have never guessed/expected to come across this on my own! I ordered an Oat Milk Latte and the Nutmeg Scramble. One of my friends also ordered the Nutmeg Scramble and I couldn't help but notice that her slices of pineapple and cantaloupe were more than twice as large as mine. Also, hers came with a nice biscuit whereas mine was missing it. When I had inquired about the biscuit, they gave me 2 pieces of buttered toast. Our cashier/server said they were short on staff and only one chef was in the kitchen, so that contributed towards the slowness of food being brought out to our table and the inconsistency in plating. My Oat Milk Latte was rather sweet, so I asked for a cup of ice and turned it into an iced latte, even though my preference was a hot beverage. One of my friends ordered the Snickerdoodle Pancakes and I had a bite of it. It was light and fluffy, and was sweet enough that maple syrup was not needed. For a coffee shop that is located in an Industrial Park, it had a nice ambiance on the inside. I believe this is their newer location, and it is located in a business park area. There is a sign out front so you know which drive to turn into. This location is much less busy then the others, so that was great. They have some fresh bakery items such as scones, cheesecake bars, etc. They have a breakfast menu that is decent sized but they do not have the same items as the other location so definitely take a look first..I usually get the nutmeg scramble but have them add hollandaise sauce on it, but due to this menu not having benedicts they couldn't do that. I opted for the hash, but did it with carnitas instead, which was an off menu option the told me about. It normally comes with briskett and i might try that option next time. It was pretty good and it got me full as I couldn't quite finish it. The server was really nice, and attentive. The food was delivered fairly quick, and i also ordered a cherry flavored Italian soda which I enjoyed and would get again. Overall this is a nice spot for breakfast, but I do prefer the other menu and pastry options at their other location. read more

The food is always delicious! I've had the best burrito, the shackshuka, and the avocado toast, and they were all so so good!! The am ambiance is casual, there's lots of indoor and outdoor seating, and free parking. Service can be slow during busy times but the staff is nice. It's on the pricier side but it's all really good! read more

Wow this scone was amazing and crisp but soft on the inside w/o being dry. What a treat!! I also had their Big Bad Wolf but asked for French bread instead. Tasty sandwich with salty meat balanced by sweetness of the apricot jam... delicious. Service was helpful and fast. Nice ambience with a cafe feel plus the outdoor seating. We went to check out the new Nutmeg location. We used to go to their Scripps Ranch location before they relocated to this new one on Danielson. The decor is modern and clean inside with a small patio outside. The place is new and pretty empty at 10am on a Friday morning. Ordered the chilaquiles and it was really disappointing. I do not recommend this dish at all. It's plain with a lot of melted cheese that started congealing into a big mass over the soggy tortilla chips as it cooled. And the refried bean is served separately as a side and looks very unappetizing. I ended up just scraping the cheese off and picking the tortilla chips out. My friend liked her shashuka. The Nutmeg Scramble was also good too. Service was good and we were checked on a couple of times while we were there. read more

I've been coming here for years. The service has unfortunately gone downhill. They are not friendly. You are Lucky if you get a smile. There is also a very dirty fan that is on that faces the food and drink station that is blowing nasty stuff towards the food. I'm so disappointed in the breakdown of this location. read more

Love the coffee and chilaquiles for breakfast at Nutmeg. The sauce is mostly tomatillo ( I think) with a nice kind of citrusy bite. Some hot spots of jalapeño bits but not so many that it is overpowering. Great balance of flavors and good size portion. read more

This place is cute! The folks behind the counter are friendly and kind. The food hasn't been the best experience. We got the French toast and although it was delicious, it was quite burnt, almost black. We got a butter croissant and it was so dry/stale that we genuinely couldn't eat it. It was like gnawing on a rock. Their nutmeg latte is quite delicious, however both times we have been there it has taken almost 10 minutes for the coffee to be made. Amazing food. I'm a local and I have been to Obriens Boulangerie also. Boulangeries food is ok. Although they have a lot of pastry and breads you can pick from, but for the food you have to go with Nutmeg. Nutmegs coffee is also lot better than Boulangerie. You guys need to add more pictures of the new pastries that you have added to your collection. The current pictures don't do justice. Awesome place and food. Cheers! read more

We have been coming to Nutmeg since it opened in the Vons shopping center. The service never was the greatest, but you could usually get someone youngster employee to make it right. And the food usually came out in a reasonable amount of time. The food was as also never great IMO. We have been to the Danielson location more than 6 times since they opened, and every single time, they are short-staffed, food takes forever, and frankly the food quality has gone down. Even the muffins and sweets are not up to par. Coffee is often bordering on lukewarm. We come from Julian to shop at Costco, and this place is (was) convenient, but sadly this was our last visit. And I'm not saying this sarcastically, I think I would prefer some breakfast items from McDonalds. And I don't normally eat fast food. Look at the attached photos. After you have entered your tip percentage, they "suggest" an "additional tip". WTF? read more

Ridiculous. will be making my own from now on. avocado toast=1 piece of toast with a swipe of guacamole (not several slices of avocado like most places serve). 2 thin slices of tomatoes, one egg. 2 small pieces of under ripe melon=$14. it cost them $1 to make. It was a cheap substitute for actual avocado toast. My avo toast that I make at home is 10x better. Will not order again. read more

I hesitated to post a review, but after reading the other reviews I'll share similarly that the food caliber is just not the same as the former Scripps Ranch and current Sabre Springs location. I'm a huge fan of the quiche, it's my all time favorite quiche preparation, so naturally ordered it here expecting it to be the same as I usually have in Sabre Springs. It was 80% onions, undercooked, and super disappointing. My advice to the GM/owner is to bring a couple of the cooks from the other location to cross train the staff, or sample the food comparatively his or her self, then share that quality control steps have been made so many of your Nutmeg fans now on the sidelines of this location can confidently return. read more

I really enjoyed visiting this little coffee shop! I ordered their espresso chocolate scone, and it was quite delicious. I was going to order a coffee, but was disappointed to hear that they do not make their syrup. I would love to have you housemade syrups and lower sugar baked good options. Ordered the chilaquilles which is my go to if I see it on a menu. Easily the worst chilaquilles I've ever had.How can something that's supposed to be covered in sauce be so dry? My wife ordered the eggs Benedict and they were just as bad. Not made with English muffin as stated on the menu but on cut out biscuit rounds, both pieces combined were about the size of 1 Hawaiian roll and the eggs on top were HARD BOILED. Absolutely amazing place for brunch. This is thier new location and this place is small but cozy and cute.. the outdoor seating can be improved though. They offered buy one panini get one free offer and we used it. Would have visited even without the offer as I have been to thier scripps ranch branch so many times and love thier menu options. The vegetarians have very limited options to choose but all those are amazing. And I was told they are open to modify non vegan options to make it vegetarian too like caprese sandwich and few more, but I have not tried those yet to comment on it. I habe tried thier giardino panini and fresco sandwich and both were AMAZING!!! Thier house chips is consistently so so good..I have tried thier tofu scramble in other location and I like them too..pastries are very nice too.. only suggestion for them is to add more vegetarian and vegan options to choose. I have been to all 3 Nutmegs location and today was the first time at the Danielson location. I had a coffee cake muffin and it was terribly dry. It needed to be much more moist. Good I had a latte so I could dunk it to help with the dryness. Also along the same vain, the breakfast potato's were very dry maybe over cooked. For a company that I usually like I was very disappointed. This location needs to work on the food otherwise I will not be back,especially with OBrians a couple blocks away. read more

We have been big fans of Nutmeg for years. Started going to SS location then enjoyed their expansion into SR. That location moved to Poway and I was really disappointed w/ my experience. Location is strange (business park) but, more importantly, service was not great. We walked in and there were dirty dishes on many of the outdoor tables. This attracted flys and created an overall dirty feeling to the location. The restaurant was not busy. We were dining on the patio and someone brought out our food. Then, he turned around and went right back inside without touching a dirty dish. Very disappointing to see and I won't b in a hurry to go back. read more

Hit up the New Nutmeg on Danielson Street in Poway. I heard their Scripps location closed because the landlord raised the rent so high it was unaffordable for them to stay there. We were a large group so we were able to order a bunch of menu items. There was a line but its a very popular place so we were not surprised. We started with some espresso drinks, and agua frescas. We had the Hearty Bowl, Avocado Toast, and Amazing Burrito. Some in our group had the new Grandpa's Breakfast Bun with the egg and spam, and the Porky. They are very flexible with special orders including one in our group who is gluten sensitive. We finished, sharing their in-house baked pastries (they have gluten-free pastries); the warmed espresso scones and cinnamon buns (don't ever leave without having the "buns"). I work in the area so Nutmeg is now my go-to for breakfast before work, or lunch. Its also located nearby Costco and Home Depot, convenient for a weekend meal before or after my weekly Costco runs. read more
