Healthy bowl Soy rizo scramble with salad 10-2-24

We enjoy are food and coffee and tea here Very busy here And good crowd of people come and eat and work here What's not to like when there good pastries and good food and good coffee and drinks here

Omelette Florentine

All you need here is their warm coffee cake topped with whipped cream and a cup of coffee. The slice is huge--easily enough for three people to share. I also enjoyed the Egg Florentine plate, which came with house potatoes, a side of fruit, and toast. Plenty of indoor seating, along with some outdoor options, makes it a great spot to sit and enjoy your meal. The only downside is they close early.

Nutmeg is a really cute spot to enjoy a nice breakfast or brunch. There are plenty of food and drink options to choose from on their pretty large menu. On my visit to Nutmeg, I had the opportunity to try their egg breakfast - a classic. I ordered the eggs over medium, which can be hard for some to get right - but they were perfectly done here, which impressed me! The bacon was also perfectly cooked. Sadly, other than those two items, the rest left me wanting a bit more. The breakfast potatoes were bland and could have used much more seasoning. They gave me a nice portion of them on my plate, but I didn't end up finishing them as they were a bit lacking. My added sausage patty was where they put all the salt as it was a bit over salted. And the Italian soda I had to wash everything down with lacked the sweetness it really should have had. I just found the food flavors to be unbalanced.

The girl who took our order acted like helping customers was a huge inconvenience. I politely asked, "Hi, how are you?" and she responded with, "I'm great, what would you like to order," in the coldest, most robotic tone possible. No smile. No thank you. No "how about you?" It immediately set the tone -- unfriendly and unwelcoming. I ordered a cinnamon roll and specifically asked if it was possible to get one of the middle pieces since the outside ones didn't look as good. She said yes -- but I still received an outside piece that was thick, dry, and lack of cream on it. Zero effort. Banana Foster stuffed French toast: 10/10 At one point, I went to the other side of the cashier area to grab a plastic fork for my daughter. Two employees saw me standing there and couldn't be bothered to ask if I needed help. I found the forks myself and grabbed one. When I asked the same girl who took my order if the forks were clean, she responded with a rude tone: "Yeah, but just ask us next time so you don't reach over." I was honestly caught off guard -- I didn't reach over anything, and even if I had, the attitude was completely unnecessary. The place is very spacey with seatings inside and outside.

Nutella rolled croissant- look at all that nutella!

Busy lunch spot on a Friday and understandably so. The cafe and bakery has some hits and comfortable seating. I ordered a breakfast quesadilla which had soyrizo in it, plus three little pieces of fruit. The hot sauce provided was not spicy. I also got a Nutella croissant and wow-y. I thought I loved Nutella, but maybe I like pastry dough more? It was a good amount of nutella, and dare I say, a bit too much. It definitely a treat.

This place can get very busy during the weekends. They only take reservations for a group of 8 or higher. This I learned while placing the order at the counter. But I had already called them to reserve table for 4 of us and someone on their end confirmed it. Nevertheless, they still accommodated us and told us the criteria for reservations. I ordered Omelette Florentine. I liked how it had a balance of couple eggs, couple slices of grilled sourdough, fried potatoes with tomatillo sauce and even fruits on the side. It was a healthy meal but the omelette tasted pretty bland. A little seasoning would make it so much better. Maybe I'll try their bakery items next time.

Nutmeg Bakery & Café has a cute vibe--very vintage café feel with wooden furniture, handwritten chalkboard menu, and lots of artisanal touches. The space feels warm, relaxed, and welcoming, with the kind of charm that makes you want to get coffee and chat for hours with friends. It's got that perfect brunch spot energy. We tried the chocolate croissant, but it honestly reminded us of the ones from Trader Joe's--and you can get a whole box of those for the same price. So, not super impressed there. The blueberry pancakes, on the other hand, were amazing--fluffy, light, and probably some of the best we've had. The Nutmeg Scramble had a unique combo of goat cheese and sun-dried tomatoes, which was flavorful if you're into that kind of thing. Personally, I'm not sure I'd order it again, but I appreciated the creative flavors working together. The biscuit that came with it was pretty dry, though, and didn't add much to the plate. One downside about the experience was also the lack of information about ingredients--especially for someone with a group who had dietary needs. I asked if the gluten-free items were also yeast-free, and the staff wasn't sure and couldn't get any info on it. It would be super helpful if the pastry chef left a list of ingredients somewhere for transparency. That felt like a bit of a miss for an otherwise thoughtful spot.

I came for brunch on Sunday with my friends and it was crowded so be prepared for a little bit of a wait. Parking was easy since it's in a big plaza. They have 2 separate rooms with plenty of small tables. I got the capri panini. It had chicken breast, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted garlic, pesto, and mozzarella. It also came with potato chips that look made in house! It was really good and filled me up enough that I had to take half home. We also shared the cinnamon roll. It looks like it would be SUPER sweet with all the frosting on top but it wasn't as sweet as it looks. Which was perfect for us!

Fancy avocado toast

Came for brunch with my mom. They have pastries in a case along with beverages. You order at the counter, get a number then can sit wherever you like. There's a couple different rooms and outdoor seating. We got our food & drinks pretty quickly. I had the iced nutmeg latte (honey & cinnamon) with oat milk and the fancy avocado toast. Everything was tasty and the atmosphere and staff were all great too.

Vegan Scramble
Thea M.

Great menu variety and fresh baked pastries and plenty of spaces to eat inside. I always get the vegan scramble, it is very filling and the perfect meal after a good hike. You order and pay before sitting down, and they bring your food to you, which is a great system for large crowds. The table we sat at was sticky, not sure if it was the lacquer on the table or it if was not cleaned well enough. The delicious food and service will always make me come back and bring my friends.

Tuna sandwich w/potato chips

Loved this little bakery/cafe with excellent food. Lunch here was terrific food and they have indoor/outdoor seating. Ordered the Tom turkey sandwich on sourdough, also the caesar wrap on spinach wrap, and also the homemade potato chips were so good!

triple D special
Melanie M.

My friend and I came here for the first time on a Tuesday morning and it was pretty busy. It's very casual, you order at the counter then sit down. We both got the triple D special which is a sandwich & banana french toast stuffed with cream. We also got iced coffee. Everything was delicious. About $30 for the food and coffee per person which was kinda a lot. Very cute inside.

Baked goods
Nayeli R.

Nutmeg bakery in Sabre Springs is a great spot to grab a quick bite and to enjoy from an ample selection of baked goods. My husband and I have come for breakfast a few times now and the chilaquiles verdes are our favorite item! We have also had the florentine omelet and the breakfast quesadilla - both items also outstanding. But the area in which this spot really shines through is the ample selection of desserts and baked goods, including some seasonal items. The bread pudding, the cinnamon rolls, the scones, are all pretty tasty and not to be missed! Service is quick and friendly - you order at the counter and then they bring the food to your table. Place is overall clean. Parking is easy since it's inside of a small plaza. Staff is polite, they don't check in on you but if you go to them for questions (like asking for a take-out container) everyone jumps in to help. They are all super friendly.

Sorry...not sure. Suggest calling them. They are super friendly.

They moved to Poway at 13771 Danielson St., just down the road from the old Scripps location. They also still have their original location in Sabre Springs at 12640 Sabre Springs Pkwy.

Just counter service. And just to be nice, we even bussed our own table.

Yes, as far as I know!

Do they have the breakfast menu during the week?

Anyone know the brand of coffee they use?

Hey there! We are proud to serve Coava coffee at both of our locations! We make our cold-brew in-house and use two different roasts for our brewed coffee and espresso.

It's New Year's Day, 1/1 today. Does anyone know if Nutmeg is open today? I've called a couple of times but there's no answer.

I didn't even read the reviews. When I pulled up, I almost drove right past it because it's tucked inside a liquor store. But hidden gems are usually called hidden for a reason. I walked in and asked what their most popular sandwich was. The guy recommended the California Club, which happens to be one of my go to sandwiches anywhere, so I told him to make that and add pickles because let's be honest, you gotta have pickles. Now I'm not gonna sugarcoat it, the guy making the sandwich took a sweet time. I mean almost a solid almost 10 minutes, and at one point I caught myself thinking, "This thing better be incredible." Well... it was incredible. Absolutely worth the wait. Fresh bread, stacked, flavorful, tactical, and one of those sandwiches where after the first bite you immediately stop caring how long it took. In fact, after the baseball game I went back a second time and grabbed a Cobb salad for my wife. Of course I had a few bites as a delivery tax. That thing was tremendous too. When I picture a really good Cobb salad, this is exactly what I want. Packed with egg, bacon, avocado, and just the right amount of blue cheese. Not skimpy at all. The salad also took longer than expected, but honestly I'd much rather wait a few extra minutes for food that's made right instead of rushed garbage. Well done. Easy five stars.
