The order was to-go. This is our third recent meal here that has sounded amazing on the menu, but the execution unfortunately hasn't matched the description. We ordered the veggie panini on sourdough, the champagne combo (1/2 quiche and small chicken pesto mac and cheese), a raspberry almond croissant, a bottle of Coke, and four bottles of Perrier. Veggie Panini: This was not a panini. There were no grill marks, and the mozzarella wasn't even partially melted. The pesto was fine, but the bread did not taste fresh and felt slightly stale. It was just a cold veggie sandwich and difficult to eat. Quiche: Disappointing. The ham chunks were far too large and threw off the balance of the custard. The pastry tasted processed rather than house-made. At least it was served warm. Chicken Pesto Mac & Cheese: Despite ordering chicken pesto, we received regular mac and cheese. The breadcrumb topping was mushy and flavorless. The béchamel had a noticeable metallic aftertaste, and I couldn't finish more than a few bites. Raspberry Almond Croissant: Stale, overly dusted with powdered sugar, and lacking the balance of a proper pastry. The raspberry filling tasted like generic jam rather than a house-made preserve. The counter staff was very friendly and kind during pickup - no complaints there. We were also given Pellegrino instead of Perrier. Not a huge issue on its own, but after multiple execution misses, it added to the overall frustration. At $53, this meal felt far below expectations. My review is for the sourdough bread only bc that's the only thing I've tried. I usually go elsewhere for my weekly sourdough but I was nearby so I just popped in to scoop some bread. I honestly should've just stuck to my regular go-to place bc I ended up throwing the entire loaf out when I got home. I was totally ripped off. I ordered and paid $9. 69 for a bowl of French onion soup. I was served the soup in a cup. When I asked the young lady if this was a bowl she said yes. When I asked what does a cup look like, she corrected herself and said, oh no, this is a cup. I told her I had ordered a bowl. She made me show her my receipt. She took the cup and said she would bring me back a bowl. All the young lady did was pour the cup of soup into a bowl, and then served it to me. The only reason I know this is because before she took the cup of soup from me I had already cut up the croutons that were in the soup. This is a small place with outdoor and indoor seating. You need to go up to the counter to order and they give you a number to put on your table so that they can deliver your food. This was our first time and I decided to have the half quiche and half salad. I chose the goat and spinach quiche. It was very good, nice and warm. I also chose the Cobb salad. It is amazing that you have the choice of any salad! My husband had the goat cheese salad which came with a baguette. It was large and he enjoyed it. The one bad thing was that the drinks were not explained. They had 2 ice teas on the menu. Since one had sugar in it, my husband chose the simply black. She had so much patience with a male customer who not only interrupted another worker cleaning tables to help him...because he was more important and then he cut in-line. I wanted to love it so much but sadly.... I ordered a Classic Benedict that was supposed to be on a croissant. It turned out to be the tiniest croissant in the world but I wasn't mad at that until I sliced into it and found the yolk was hard, the ham was tough and the hollandaise sauce had no taste at all. The potatoes on the side looked like they were made five days ago and then reheated. I also orders a mini lemon cheesecake and what can I say? The delivery people forgot the dip but the sandwich was still sooo good The bread was fresh, soft inside and a nice crisp crunch of the crust. I would definitely order again. However, the salad dressing was appalling! I should've tried it first but instead I just mixed it in without tasting it first and ick! Had to throw the whole thing out. Good lunch spot for some sandwiches and other treats! Stopped by here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the tastes and variety of food. A friend took me here for lunch or else I would have not tried this because I thought "bakery" = bread and pastries. I was happy to find such a good selection of lunchable foods. I am not sure I picked the right combo this time. The food took a while to be served. We waited about 15 minutes and it wasn't terribly busy but slightly busy. Chocolate twist: Took 2 bites. Weird taste and was stale. Lemon tart: Took this to go. Crust so thick could not even cut it. When was the crust made? Lemon pastry cream had a weird taste and after taste. One bite went into the trash, crust so hard did not even taste it. Everything tasted as if days old and not fresh. Most pastries in the case with choux looked flat. It took me a while to choose because my instinct was to not get anything because of appearance. Should have listened to that. Years ago this use to be good but I will never go back. Do yourself a favor and get something from the Ralphs bakery instead. read more

I used to come to Champagne Bakery for years! Its cakes and pastries are always delicious. My most recent visit was last week. This was my first time back after its renovations. I like the new Parisian seats, but the rooster decor is all gone. I noticed the curry chicken salad (my favorite) is no longer on the menu. Bummer. I ordered the scrambled eggs and side of soup, which were both good. After all these years, this neighborhood eatery still draws a loyal following. We came here for breakfast on President's Day at 8am, and it was fast to order and easy to find bright patio seating. My latte was delicious! And nice and hot. My husband enjoyed his house coffee. My two eggs (I chose scrambled)/bacon/potatoes/toasted baguette was hearty and good. Bacon was thick and flavorful. Potatoes beautifully crispy on outside, fluffy inside; cooked just right. I liked how lightly seasoned it was so we could add our own. The baguette was chewy. Felt like day old. Overall, lovely experience. The food is good, and fresh. Unfortunately service is very slow, so plan according. Even outside of rush hours.

My first time coming into the cafe. The smell as we walked in was horrible, it reminded me of vomit. It smelled sour and cheesy at the same time. Not a smell you'd like when walking into a French bakery. There's a good amount of seating inside and out. A little dim, no warm feeling. The smell outweighs anything though...one step in and I immediately wanted to leave. The croissants looked pale and undercooked. The tarts looked dry and some of them were missing that beautiful glaze. Some were under filled. The presentation looked sloppy and wasn't uniform throughout the case. This doesn't meet French bakery standards at all. While the Napoleon seemed flaky and beautifully layered-- the proportion of cream looked way too much. The prices in my opinion were a bit pricey for what I saw. And strange, most of them ended in .49 (example, $6.49). My family wanted some pastries to enjoy with their hot coffee (bought at Mostra). They ordered 1 fruit tart and Black Forest cake. - Black Forest Cake $7.49: Nothing to rave about. It's ok for a Black Forest Cake. The chocolate cake part was average and not as dark as I like it. And usually you'll get Black Forest with cherries but this is unmistakably raspberries because it was seedy and tart. On the other hand, my great uncle enjoyed it. - Fruit Tart $7.39: Not bad. The tart shell is not super buttery but nicely uniformed from base to outside. The pastry cream was nice and texturally smooth. The fruits on top were yummy. I especially liked the strawberry. This one had a glaze, but I don't think it was apricot jam..it probably was a simple syrup? Overall, it was okay but I don't think I would come here again. That first walk in smell wasn't pleasant and the interior didn't feel super inviting. My Best Friend For Life and I were off on Monday September 9th, so we planned to eat breakfast and then do some errands after breakfast. We decided on Champagne French Bakery because it was close to Trader Joe's. We've eaten at Champagne on multiple occasions and until Monday's experience, this was a fave bakery for my wife. Customer service is big for me and unfortunately, Champagne's customer service was lacking that day. Champagne is located in the Carmel Mountain Ranch area specifically on Carmel Mountain Road. It is located in the Ralph's shopping center where you also can find Trader Joe's, Chase Bank, McDonald's, L&L Hawaiian BBQ, and Flippin Pizza. It is next to Chico's and across the street from Starbucks. There is plenty of parking, but it can get crowded. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The ceiling has wooden slats, the flooring is tiled, and the indoor chairs are rattan wicker. It was already a warm morning, so I wished they had their ceiling fans on. As we stood in front of their pastry and dessert display case with a couple of customers in front of us, there were two ladies working behind the case. One was refilling the display case and another one was assisting a customer. Not once did any of the two ladies greet us when we entered the restaurant or did the lady filling the case tell us that we had to order exactly at the register. After there were no more customers ahead of us, we stood waiting for one of these ladies to help us. It wasn't until we stood at the register did the younger lady finally help us. If the process is we'll receive assistance once we're at the exact spot of the register, then that needs to be communicated. The start of our breakfast was disappointing and we hadn't ordered yet. The focal point of any bakery should be the display case because customers visit bakeries to see the alluring and enticing pastries, desserts, and baked goods. We arrived at Champage just before 9am and we were actually disappointed by the less than full assortment. To be completely transparent, my wife works in the patisserie industry and that's one of the things she mentioned when we looked at the selection. My better half chose Champagne for our breakfast because she is a fan of their Raspberry Almond Croissant. She wasn't disappointed with her fave, but our customer service experience soured her. I ordered their Cheese Danish and we added a Blueberry White Chocolate Scone. I thought the danish was tasty, but I wished it was softer and flakier. The scone wasn't too bad either and definitely would have tasted yummy if I dipped that in some coffee. I ordered their brewed coffee to wash everything down, but their coffee was nothing to write home about. I had been looking forward to our planned breakfast outing especially since we hadn't had any issues on previous visits. Ok, this place is super cute. The brunch menu is excellent and the pastries are delicious. I had a 1/2 sandwich (brie) and 1/2 quiche (spinach and goat cheese) and it was filling! I didn't have room for the lemon tart that I ordered, but best believe that I brought that home and indulged. The lemon tart had a tender crust/shell, and a smooth and creamy, sweet and tart filling. It took over 20 minutes for us to get our food, which is a lot, but it did not detract from my overall experience here. read more

Will not recommend this place if you are looking for good tasting French dessert / pastries like eclair and napoleon. The Napoleon for instance doesn't look elegant (see photo)... was not flaky / puffy at all, was not glazed with fondant toppings or icing, and did not use pastry cream, instead it seemed like it used whip cream as a substitute for the pastry cream. The eclair is just okay. I thing great about it. Not as crispy as I expect it to be but not soggy as well. I think this is a safety concern for all besides it does not look good.
