My wife chose this French restaurant, it's very small inside but cozy. Had dinner here with my Family, not hard to find the restaurant but it's hard to find a parking spot. We had our Appetizer, main course , and dessert but I'm just gonna review what we had for our main entree since my wife already did a full review of what we had here. So I had the Cassoulet, I always enjoyed this dish because it has Variety of meats on it, taste-wise it's the same as the other Cassoulets I had in French restaurants we've been to, just like ordering this because of the Duck, Sausage and Pork Belly. My Son had a Pork Chop and it's a big one, it has a delicious mushroom sauce. My wife had the Duck Confit, the duck has a nice crispy skin and juicy inside, with delicious creamy sauce. Nice French restaurants to come back to.

Grilled porkchop with mushroom and scalloped potatoes. I enjoyed every bite.

We had dinner here last night for our last night here in Hillcrest. We started with the escargot, and it was absolutely delicious. So good, we ordered the French baguette, to sop up the remaining warm butter and garlic. The next course, we shared the salad and it was light and perfectly dressed. I ordered the grilled pork chop with scalloped potatoes and it tasted better than I imagined possible. Also the rainbow trout with grilled asparagus, was prepared to perfection. For dessert we shared the chocolate mousse. Rich Belgium chocolate and then it was time to walk back to the hotel. Everything from start to finish was a wonderful dining experience.

We popped in without a reservation on Friday evening, they were getting busy and stated they had reserved tables, but they made room for two at the bar. I ordered the salad pictured, and the creme brulee. The salad was delicious and the vinaigrette was just tart enough. The creme brulee was good but was lukewarm, and would have been tastier if it came out hot. This restaurant is wholesome, like you're sitting in someone's living room - however it was very warm inside so it was uncomfortable adjusting to the temperature when we first sat down. The staff were kind and helpful when we ordered. Parking in this area is tough so I recommend arriving early.

What a lively little french bistro! Yes it's pricey but the ambiance is so cozy and romantic and the service is absolutely top notch! The menu is quite limited and I wish they had a chicks. dish but they prepare their menu items very well and portions are quite generous. We ordered the endive salad to share. This was a fresh and well dressed salad. For our main courses we ordered the steak frites and the mussels. We probably could have shared just one entree. The steak was perfectly cooked, the sauce was to die for and the fries were perfectly crisp and well seasoned. I had asparagus instead of fries and they were delicious as well. The mussels came in a delicious broth and there were plenty of fries to share. Hubby could not finish the mussels. He probably left at least ten mussels in the bowl. If you are looking for a romantic evening this is the place!!

Brought my girlfriend here in order to celebrate Valentine's Day (though it wasn't exactly on Valentine's Day, neither her nor I are fans of pre-set menus). It's a very small, but intimate restaurant with only a handful of tables. I would definitely recommend making reservations ahead of time. The intimate vibes are definitely heightened by the dim lighting, which as perfect for a Valentine's Day dinner. Overall the waitstaff was attentive but service was on the slower slide. With such a restricted table count one would hope that they would be a little more prompt getting food out. I didn't mind too much since I had the most wonderful company, but with the pace of service we were there for quite a while. It was a celebration so cocktails were in order. My girlfriend got a Kir Royale and I opted for The Saint. Both cocktails subscribed to the less is more philosophy of mixology and were thoroughly enjoyed. No smokes in mirrors needed, just crisp, refreshing and deliciously clean flavors. Now for the food. 1.) We decided on Escargot as our appetizer and they offered very balanced yet rich, garlicky, buttery flavors with some nice texture contrast provided by the puff pastry. This was definitely a 4/5 dish for me. Though it was delicious we did find ourselves wishing for a little more crisp coming from the pastry. 2.) I chose the Confit de Canard for my main. It was my favorite dish of the evening. The duck was perfectly cooked and full of that rich flavor one expects. The brussel sprouts were nicely cooked and made for a fine side dish. I did find that the mustard cream sauce its served with was unnecessary and in my opinion created a sort of disconnect in the dish. I think I would've preferred something a little more subtle to pair with duck so that it would supplement the dish. Instead I felt like the flavors were competing, which may be a positive to some, but I found I could've gone without it. 3.) My girlfriend went with the Cote de Porc and did not enjoy her dish as much as the rest of our meal. I tasted a bit of it and it seemed like the pork got a bit lost between the mushroom cream sauce and the potato gratin. The gratin itself was my favorite component from her dish. All in all we were treated to a good dinner here at La Bonne Table. It's a relatively small table and small restaurant so its something I'd be open to trying in another occasion, for another celebration, but it's not a place I think I would come to with a higher frequency. Overall it was a 4/5 dining experience.

Finally remembered to visit La Bonne Table in Hillcrest! Traditional French vibes. From the size of the restaurant and the white table cloths, to the waiters dressed in white collar button down shirts to the various photos on the wall. Our waiter was great and patient as we took our time ordering our dinner. We were enjoying the ambiance too much. When we finally made up our minds we had: Cote de Pore- served with potato gratin; absolutely mouth watering. Potato heaven. Moules a la bisque de Homard- Mussels! served with lobster bisque broth and fries. Finger licking good. Both of these entrees were delicious. Our appetizer was the: Rillete de Crabe-shredded crab, lemon juice and creme fraiche. Very tasty and light. Such a great meal, such a beautiful establishment, and what great service!! Thank you La Bonne Table for a delicious dinner. Looking forward to our next visit!

Be warned, service is extremely slow! Even though we put our order in fairly quickly, we were there for just under 2 hours and ended up missing the movie we had planned for after. My guy took me here for Valentine's Day and it is such a lovely, intimate little place. I loved looking at all the decor on the walls. There was plenty, but it wasn't overwhelming. I absolutely adored how simple their cocktails were. Most places nowadays pack in a million ingredients trying to be innovative and "insta-worthy," but it's not necessary. My guy got The Saint and I got Kir Royal. Both were refreshing, simple and delicious! We started with the Escargots (delicious! had a nice amount of garlic butter on each piece, but I wish the puff pastries were crispier). For dinner, my guy got the Confit de Canard (the duck itself was delicious! I didn't like the mustard cream sauce at all. The brussell sprouts were cooked nicely, but I would've preferred a different vegetable that's not as bitter) and I got the Cote de Pore (the best part was the potato gratin. The pork chop was dry and lacked any real flavor. I know you're supposed to use the mushroom cream sauce, but it wasn't good). I would honestly say everything except for my pork chop was good and I would get again. I enjoy the simplicity of the menu and would love to come back again!

PATE , my COCKTAIL, and complimentary BREAD

We always take turns to choose which restaurant to dine at and it was my Son's turn and he chose to dine at this French Restaurant called "THE BONNE TABLE". There wasn't that much space inside, pretty small with an extra outdoor seating. All of the tables were full, so my first impression was that it must be good, and it was actually pretty good. Ordered the following: *PORK CHOP *CASSOULET *CONFIT DUCK *PATE MAISON *DAISY COCKTAIL *DESSERTS , CREME BRULEE & MOUSSE. We had our complimentary bread followed by this delicious appetizer, the PATE MAISON , its a Pork Pate with pistachios and this was delicious, I used my extra bread that I got on the PATE and it was very satisfying, like I felt full already and I hadn't gotten to my main meal yet. My DAISY cocktail was delicious. Our main course came all at the same time and I knew my Son would enjoy his PORK CHOP 'coz he loves pork chop, this PORK CHOP is a Bone-in Pork chop with Mushroom cream sauce, I got a slice of it right away from his plate to taste and it was so tender and juicy, it tasted perfect. My son enjoyed his Pork chop. I got the CONFIT DUCK, it has crispy and tender duck thighs, it's lightly seasoned, and has good portions. Whenever we eat at a French restaurant my husband always gets the CASSOULET, it's a french Casserole with Duck confit, sausage, and pork belly, and as always he liked this dish. For dessert I ordered the MOUSSE CHOCOLAT and CREME BRULEE, the Mousse au chocolat was pretty good and big, so I let my husband and son have it and I secure my favorite dessert, the Creme brulle, just for myself, it was delicious and had a nice crisp caramelized sugar on top. The service was great, I just don't know which one was actually our server, 3 servers were serving our table the whole time we were there ;) Parking is the only issue we encountered, and maybe for me the space was a little issue, it's too small inside, but the food was great!

French Onion Soup Salad Fresh Trout New York cut Steak The food was a culinary feast. Prepared by caring hands with pride. The French Onion soup amazing flavor, the salad fresh and plentiful, the fresh Trout delicate flavor with an amazing sauce. The Steak ooo la la. The service timely, polite and attentive . While my wife was savoring every morsel and I gobbling the steak. More clients arrived 4 young women gathered and the wine flowed the conversation delightfully boisterous. I could not help myself while leaving I decided to ask "Have you seen the TV show Emily in Paris" they all laughed and toasted me. Bottom line a must go with your loved one.

Visited this adorable little restaurant with the sweetest staff on a slow Sunday afternoon for lunch. The restaurant itself is so beautiful decorated and designed. The outdoor patio offers comfortable seating with a nice view of the buzzing community surrounding it. And the food!! Incredibly fresh, plenty of delicious menu options and each that I've tried has really knocked it out of the park. I would definitely recommend for a hidden gem lunch visit. I'll have to come back to try their dinner experience!

The restaurant is a small little place that is a converted house with maybe 8 tables or so. Perfect for a quiet date night Service was very good. The server was friendly helpful and professional Food was good. Personally the prk pate has a strange aftertaste but I've never had it before so maybe that's normal Duck was very well cooked. Thought the sauce could have used more flavor and was overly buttery not enough mustard or whatever the flavor was supposed to be Chocolate hazelnut cake was very good. Dense moist and you could taste the hazelnut flavor

Wow! What a gem! It is the coziest restaurant with great decor and a cute little bar in the back of the restaurant. The staff are super friendly. Our server was very nice and attentive. We went with our friends and decided to bring our own wine. Their corkage fee is very reasonable- I think $25. Their menu items are as well. I forgot to take a pic of our appetizers but remembered our entrees and desserts! Below is what we ordered. Frisée salad- fresh with a light vinaigrette. French onion soup- holy cow it was so good and such a generous portion. I was satisfied with just this! Pork chop- huge and so moist. Perfectly cooked and seasoned nicely. The mushroom sauce was a bit salty for me. The potatoes were to die for. So creamy and decadent. Everyone else ordered the cassoulet. It had duck and sausage in it with creamy white beans. They all raved about it. We will return soon! So worth it!

Do they offer gluten free entrees for people with allergies?

The menu changes regularly but i had no difficulty last night eating around allergies but for avoiding the fabulous loaf of homemade bread whose aroma was hard to resist!! Memorable evening

Is there a website or menu? We are visiting next week and would like to have some french food. When we came a couple years ago, we went to bleu boheme a couple times, so this time woud like to try some place new.

No, but you should definitely go! La Bonne Table is much better and much more authentic than Bleu Boheme!

They were doing the Tuesday night date special, which includes one appetizer & entree each and a dessert & bottle of wine to share for $55/pp as of March 2026. I'm not familiar with the names of French dishes, so I'll write descriptions of the food instead. Appetizers: * mushroom ravioli * phyllo filled with cheese & salad Entrees: * braised short rib * stuffed chicken Dessert: * Cookie My favorite thing was actually the phyllo filled with cheese! It was really unique, and a good combination of savory/sweet, and the salad was a refreshing addition. I would honestly consider ordering a full portion of this to have as a meal. My husband loved his braised short ribs. It was so tender. The ambiance is lovely-- I dressed up a bit more than I normally would, and I didn't feel particularly overdressed or anything, but other people showed up in casual clothing too. Every detail of dinner was well thought out and service was amazing. We didn't feel rushed at all, so we were able to enjoy a slow-paced anniversary dinner. We would definitely come back to try their normal menu too!

The food were amazing and delicious we started with Soup à l'oignon which was great then the raviolis aux champignons which was also amazing but we wished that it would be much more warmer... We then followed by steak frites aux poivre, we asked it medium rare not cut and sauce on the side and it was perfect it comes with brocolis and green beans in the side with french fries and ask for ketchup and aïoli which was yummy as well! We wanted to make it a french dinner so we also ordered a chessboard after the main course! We were so glad that we ordered one entrée as we could have not made it to the dessert if we were to do the cheeseboard and dessert as well! After the cheeseboard we ordered the profiteroles for dessert and a Cappuccino! The dinner birthday was a success I do recommend it for people that are looking for an authentic french restaurant! Cons were the ambiance it was a little bit loud and also they weren't giving any complimentary birthday dessert also, the bread at the beginning were delicious but if you want a refill they will charge you for it. We brought a bottle of red wine which was free corkage since we also ordered a bottle of white from their menu. But the corkage fee would be $45! Overall we had a wonderful time! And I highly recommend it for the food!

The white wine of the day was Chardonnay and the cocktail of the day was an agave spritz. Our server was kind enough to tell us that the burgers did not come with fries, just in case we felt like the portions weren't sufficient. Our server was quick with our drinks and refills. The food took a bit longer to come out. *Agave Spritz: a fragrant take on a spritz. I actually appreciated how it was not overly carbonated nor sugary. This was a refreshing pairing with all the fried items we ordered. *Pommes Frites: classically crispy and fluffy. Came with a choice of ketchup or aioli. *Croquettes: came with five airy and crispy balls on a pool of mornay sauce. The menu mentioned an aioli, but my order did not come with any. Thankfully, the balls were flavorful themselves. The mornay sauce was on the thicker side and there was some clumpiness, but it added pleasant creaminess. *Burger Parisienne: my preferred burger of the two offered. The bordelaise was done well, and the red wine added a complex sweetness to the burger. The patty was thick and the toppings made the overall flavor similar to an In-N-Out burger. *Burger Americaine: a classic American burger that resembled In-N-Out, but with a thicker patty. Good thing I enjoy both. The vegetables were fresh, but I would have liked a bit more of the special sauce. *Little Gems: a rather acidic and simple dressing. The little gems lettuce was cleaned well and was crispy. The radish offered some crunch and the herbs were fragrant. I would have cut the herbs a bit more though. This was quite a satisfying happy hour experience, although nothing was exceptional besides the croquettes. I would like to return to try their breakfast options, and Saint James does offer some interesting dishes that others do not. The pricing was fair for the quality we received.

Really good loaf of bread to start with though esp the rosemary butter. 4/5 - Fresh Oysters, 6 ct [$21] Really good oysters, super fresh, very "fat" & "meaty" 5/5 - Granita Oysters 6ctx2 [$25] Same oysters as above, BUT filled w/a yuzu/lemon concoction along w/pear pearls, TABLE FAVE for sure 5/5 (started with a 6 count before our mains & HAD to get another 6 after) - Mussels [$27] Very fresh and well seasons mussels, although the sauce was a bit odd tasting. It was white wine mixed with something they called "a cousin of absinthe" 4/5 - Wagyu tartare [$31] YUM! TABLE FAVE, wish it came with more bread though, that bone marrow was chef's kiss along with the sauce they paired the dish with 5/5 For the mains, two did the Top Sirloin [$48 each] which was described as 'melt in your mouth goodness' which came w/a square shaped potato & a piece of biggish mushroom. The two others did the Short Rib [$42 each] which was described as 'the demi-glaze makes' & 'it's fall off the bone.' I had the Poisson which was the fresh catch of the day (salmon) [$38] & it was really good! Came with bokchoy which was drenched in a maple sauce. That contradicted the lemony/citrusy sauce the salmon came in. There were greens on top of the salmon to complete the meal. Solid dish! I'd skip the deconstructed creme brulee [$15] as that was nobody's favorite. It left us leaving a "real" creme brulee... Do get the opera cake [$15] tho, that one was a TABLE FAVE! Do note that dinners here take a while as the chefs create masterpieces. Our dinner for 5 turned into a 3-4 hour affair, which was fine. Good times!

Wormwood is nestled in an old house courtyard that is absolutely brimming with charm and character, the environment is truly fantastic and sets a lovely mood. The service was excellent throughout the night, and for the most part, the kitchen delivered on some amazing flavors. We shared several dishes: * Steamed Mussels & Scallops: Perfectly prepared. * Pasta & Wagyu Beef: Rich, delicious, and beautifully plated. * Burrata Salad: While the flavors were good, this was our only disappointment. The greens didn't seem fresh and had some wilted/rotten leaves, appearing as though it might have been sitting out too long before reaching the table. A quick tip on logistics: Like many popular spots in San Diego, parking was a bit of a challenge, so definitely give yourself some extra time to find a space in the neighborhood. For this restaurant, the stunning atmosphere and the quality of the main courses made for a memorable meal. We'd certainly come back for the vibes and those scallops!

They already mentioned that 20% service fee will be included. We were OK with that. However, the tax amount that was calculated was not correct. In San Diego, the tax % is 7.75%, however, this restaurant charges almost 10-11%. I was about to tell the server this, but my daughter and wife told me to let it go due to politeness. I don't think I will visit this restaurant again just because of their fraudulent practice.

The hostess had a note for our anniversary celebration. They also printed a little celebatory note directly on the menu - a great personal touch. Our server was friendly and answered any questions we had. We ordered the beef tartare, smoked aged duck, and the deep fried sand bass. For the drink we ordered the Seasame Soirée. While our food came out pretty slow, I'd say it was worth the wait. We also enjoyed 2 complimentary glasses of bubbly while we waited as part of our anniversary celebration. The restarant itself is decorated beautifully with a jazzy ambiance. The interior had bits of gold and green with a beautiful pearlescent leafy wallpaper. The bar is located in the center and also doubles as a centerpiece to the restuarant. Restrooms are located in the back - there we many private, clean and spacious rooms. Below is a summary of the food we ordered: Beef Tartare (5/5) - Savory, sweet and spicy beef tartare dressed in fish sauce and thai chilis. Paired alongside fresh herbs like cilantro, shiso, argula and radicchio. The sesame rice crackers were light and airy. Smoked Dry Aged Duck (5/5) - Perfectly cooked, sweet and salty aged smoked duck paired with rice noodles, herbs and 2 different sauces. I appreciated the many ways you can wrap and enjoy the duck. I do wish the slices of duck were either smaller or thinner - it's hard to eat in one bite. Whole Fried Sand Bass (4/5) - I'll always order a whole firied fish wherever I go and this was no expection. I loved the sweet & sour ginger sauce. The fish was a bit over-fried in my personal opinion, but the inside is still very soft and tender. Sweet & Sour Rice Noodles (5/5) - Aboslutely delicious! Slippery and cold rice noodles dressed in fish sauce and other seasonings. It's not overpowering at all and goes great with the Whole Fried fish as well. Seasame Soiree Cocktail (5/5) - A very unique drink made with gin, ginger, coconut, seasame seeds and more. It was very fragrant in the best way. The flavor really develops after the first sip. I love how nutty and decadent yet light this drink is. Overall, I had a great experience here and this is one of the top restaurants I've had the pleasure of enjoying in SD. Highly reccomend especially if you like Vietnamese food / fish-sauce forward dishes. (At least for the dishes I ordered)

Yes, I will be there next month with my whole gang celebrating with me on my special day! Our reservations were early, arriving on time @ 5:30 it was a bit quiet with only two other tables, but not for long. In no time every single table was filled. The restaurant was busy and the wine was a'flowin'! This quaint and very special restaurant reminds me of a small restaurant in San Diego in the 1980's, "Ciao Bella". It was located downtown on 4th Ave., it was also chef-owned. When you dine at a chef owned restaurant you are most likely destined for greatness, or a great meal! This is the case at Angela's Kitchen 'Carbon', because there is pure authenticity in her dishes and a whole lotta' love delivered in each plate. The subtle, warm decor is welcoming and the music is played at the perfect level. Just the right ambiance. Once seated, you'll be promptly greeted and the attentive wait staff will have your wine delivered pronto. What a selection they have. I started with the prosecco and moved on to the Sangiovese which complimented my pappardelle perfectly. My friend ordered the grilled salmon and had the Montepulciano Abate Pietro. The delivery of their fresh bread with garlicky pesto, and another with tomato, which I think was a focaccia. Just amazing. We asked for olive oil to compliment the bread: it was the very best of quality with a dark Sicilian olive green hue and the smoothness with the polyphenols and antioxidants dancing in my mouth. Yum! I asked for a side of Parmigiano and they brought a nice square ramekin full of finely grated cheese, Perfection!! These are the details that make me fall in love with a restaurant, causing me to return again and again. Both of our entrees were executed perfectly, the vegetables were grilled leaving a slight char, and the salmon was grilled just right leaving a tender center. My pappardelle was dressed in the deepest, richest mushroom + beef cheek fusion of flavors with whispers of some kind of red wine like maybe the Nero d'Avola that they feature on the menu. WoW!! This is a dish that you want to take your time savoring. Every bite surpassed the last, and then a sip of the Sangiovese and I was in fresh pasta heaven. Just when we were winding down and reeling from being overwhelmed by the amazing food, Angela came to our table with cannoli. It too was amazing! This was such a kind and unexpected gesture from the chef/owner. Grazie mille, a domani!

A little outdoor seating, a bar top area, and a comfortable indoor area that is very inviting, were a surprise as I approached the location. The food is elegant, is presented amazing, and tastes great. I started with the Sweet Corn and Piñon Soup. I see why it was voted best soup for two years in a row. The thinly sliced corn bread adds an amazing texture in those bites. I had the Apricot salad (sorry I did not note the name and the menu was updated so it is not in any of the pictures) was fresh, crisp, and refreshing. I finished the evening with a Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta with sugared dark cherry was very pleasing. I almost forgot the focaccia bread.. made daily, served warm and soft. A must have. The server had a couple of hiccups with an incorrect food order and totally separate billing issue (which by their reaction I would assume was an off night) but other food delivery staff and bussing staff were timely and professional. I would recommend reservations. I was able to secure a seat (due to showing for dinner around 4 pm or so), but the restaurant filled up nicely and hosted about 4 anniversary's and 1 birthday in my time there. Dress attire seemed casual but there is definitely a more elevated clientele so I would recommend a thoughtful outfit for the experience.
