Absolutely loved the experience here. We dined here prior to the Fran Lebowitz show and chose the special tasting menu catered to the event. We read that Cuisine was featuring a new happy hour. We love happy hour, and absolutely wanted to check it out. This is a very old building. Interesting architecture. I would have loved to see it in all its glory! When we walked in I was struck by the scent. It's hard to describe but it reminded me of my grandmother's home. Not a bad scent. A welcoming one. But it definitely smelled old and comfortable There were plenty of places to dine. This is a great spot for romantic date. We sat at the zinc bar. Named after the material used for the bar top. We sat at our preferred spot, the bar, and ordered drinks. Happy hour included an interesting pickled platter and mixed nuts. We didn't try any other food but the menu was quite impressive. Last night attended the Chevy Dealers/Freep Top 10 Takeover dinner with 3 other couples. 5 stars for food, service, and ambiance. We started with the raw oysters and the strawberry mignonette, which were spectacular. I had the duck with strawberries, which was quite good. I didn't care for the rice that came with it, so I was glad we also ordered the Brussels sprouts. The Brussels sprouts were ok--not the best I've had, but not terrible. My boyfriend had the soft shell crab, which I found delicious, but salty. I was glad we got the Grand Marnier soufflé for dessert--it was just the perfect bit of sweet to follow our meal and went well with the port we got to go with it. The house was decorated discreetly for the holidays and low Christmas music played quietly. Our server, Alison, was extremely responsive, yet unobtrusive. My friend asked for a citrus mocktail and had it nearly instantly. There was a prix fixe for this dinner for $68 with plenty of choices. I had the Salad of Lyon and the Australian Lamb Chops, which were cooked to perfection! I've never had such tender and flavorful lamb before. We made a reservation for a dinner for four before attending a musical at the Fisher. I was super excited since, on the website, it was indicated that there were vegan options and with three days' notice the chef would prepare the "most memorable meal." I had indicated on the reservation that one person would need a vegan option, called five days before left a message, and then called four days before to confirm the message was received. After arriving, I let the wait staff know that we had a request for a vegan option, I was told that they were "too busy" to accommodate the request. I indicated that I made the request months prior and confirmed early that week. She said all they could do was roasted vegetables - which was a side dish - as the main dish. At this point, there was not much we could do. In addition to this disappointment, the salad was brought with parmesan cheese on it, which was discovered after taking a bite. Another disappointment came when she brought the bill. They ended up charging the full price for the "theater menu" for what was in essence a side dish. All in all, it was a very disappointing and frustrating experience. I understand that vegan modifications may not always be possible, however, the website clearly stated it would be possible. To celebrate my birthday, since I'm obviously worth it, I picked an expensive restaurant that I hadn't tried before. This is a French restaurant. I was in France right before Covid hit the United States, in February 2020. I ate a lot of French food. This had better be good. I mean, it's my birthday! And, it was good. Very good. It looks like a delightful French country house when you approach. How charming. It did feel a bit like I was back in Paris. I know: shut up about going to France, Rob! I probably shouldn't tell you about Rome, too, on the same trip. Anyway, Cuisine is very good. But, not without its quirks. We ordered duck fat french fries. Of course we did: I'm not made of stone. And, indeed, the fries were spectacularly crunchy and flavorful. They were served with some weird, obviously "French" sauce: a sort of balsamic flavored sauce. Not bad, but we wanted ketchup. WE WERE TOLD THEY HAD TO MAKE THE KETCHUP. Oh, how very "French" of you! We've been through this before, and got a weird tomato sauce thing. This time, what they brought tasted great. Then, I realized, I was eating Heinz ketchup. There's no way the kitchen could have replicated the exact combination of vinegar, spices, and smooth processing to deliver a sauce that tasted exactly like the only ketchup you ever want to have with fries. How pretentious to assume that we would want only a sauce that wasn't ketchup, because we are so sophisticated. This really put me off. The real shame is that everything else was good to great. The Arancini was bland, but the lobster bisque is beautifully flavorful. Not much meat - there never is - but incredible flavor. I didn't mind that they used lump crab meat, but then what part of the soup makes it a lobster bisque? The brussels sprouts are perfectly cooked, lightly fried, and not greasy at all. Delicious. I would gladly max out my credit card to eat nothing but the Duck Breast, roasted with honey and coriander, with a mini duck meat pie and red wine braised strawberries. Some people say duck breast is like steak. It is, but better, more luxurious. The Chilean Seabass actually is Chillean Seabass, and not some imposter. It's wonderfully sweet, but the portion is tiny. Give us adult portions, for the price I'm paying. And, that's the thing that lowers the score a bit. For the price I'm paying, I want to be accommodated reasonably. I'm not asking for anything crazy. Just have ketchup ready when a customer orders fries, and don't make a pretentious moment out of it. read more

There's a nice patio section outside but the gnats were everywhere. I guess the waiter forgot about me because I had to go inside to cash out and the place wasn't busy at all. I am torn between three and four stars, it's somewhere in the middle. Everything was delicious but I hate preset menus. The oysters however were five star. It was hard to get a server and we took a while to order drinks but once a server appeared everything was fast...even rushed. She kept trying to take our plates before we were finished. It was too much food and I was left stuffed. I prefer to order ala cart and to have more veggies on my plates. I believe they cater to the theater crowd and the preset menu ensures everyone gets to the show on time which I appreciate. read more

This was such a great find! We went for a Valentine's Day date and despite it being such a busy/stressful day for restaurants, we received great service. From the time we walked up to the cute blue house, we felt the cozy, home-y vibes. The menu was a multi-course selection prepared specially for the holiday and was amazing. The sous vide beef tenderloin was cooked to perfection. Seriously, it is so difficult to find a true medium-rare and this hit the nail on the head. We also ordered the tuna tartare appetizer and a crab soup we were still talking about the next day! Even the desert was great and creative. We loved our dinner there. The place is low-key inside, with old-fashioned decor and quiet jazz playing, so no need to scream over the music. It's a theatre crowd mostly, so everyone there was sober and nobody was shouting or laughing extra-loudly. Really perfect for a nice dinner conversation! The food itself was absolutely spectacular, and the portions very reasonably sized. Like the bumpkin I am, I took pictures of everything so you can see the pretty presentation. We had the corn crab chowder, salad de Lyon, duck leg with spaetzle and quail egg, green and white asparagus with morels (probably my favorite thing all night), sea bass, scallops, Brussels sprouts and duck-fat French fries. My Bestfriend had her birthday dinner here. We had the party room upstairs and had to go up and down stairs if we needed to use the restroom. In 5 inch heels it's a bit tiresome. The decor is minimalistic and it needs to be remodeled. Especially the ceiling. It literally looked like it was about to crumble. The chef prepared us a 3 course meal. Starting with oysters or chicken pot pie. The oysters were super fresh and absolutely delicious. The pot pie was bland and looked almost like something you could buy out of the frozen food section. I swore those peas were frozen. I added some salt and pepper and it was fine. Second course was a peach and tomato salad with cheese and balsamic vinaigrette or a crab and corn chowder. Did not care for either Third course was beef short ribs or a baked halibut. Both were amazing!!!!! The short ribs were super flavorful and so tender. My daughter literally scraped her plate eating the halibut. The servers were super attentive and one even did a little dance for us!!!! So cute! Two friend and I have formed a supper club. We dine out at new and interesting places around Detroit about once a month. One of our traditions is to try a new place every Detroit Restaurant Week (DRW); this time we chose Cuisine, and our experience was stellar. We sat in the cosy, enclosed porch of this converted historic home. The combination of the buttery yellow brick walls, the intimate space, and the lovingly set table was immediately soothing after a long, hard day at work. Drink orders were promptly taken and fulfilled, which added to the comfort. Our server also contributed to the relaxing Zen of the experience with her gracious, laid-back attitude. She made us feel completely at home and as if she was truly happy to fulfill our requests. As a matter of fact, every person who came to our table seemed happy to be interacting with us. I can only recall a handful of times when I've experienced the same level of service. In fact, I don't think its fair to call it service. Instead I'd say it's true hospitality. The food, which we ordered from the DRW menu, was equal to the hospitality. The corn and pumpkin potage managed to deliver both flavors simultaneously, with a palate-pleasing fresh tortilla aftertaste. The Dover sole was sweet and succulent. The Earl Gray creme brulee had a slight but distinct citrus and herbal flavor that might it taste light. I still haven't dined here except for DRW, and I need to make a point of it. read more

SO yummy, Im not a salad person but i will eat this salad, it comes with goat cheese and a poached egg. First time trying Caviar and i was surprised it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be, the cream and chives on it were really good! The duck risotto was my favorite dish of the night aside from the salad. Lemon dessert was amazing i think it had raspberry around it on the plate too and those were perfect flavors together. The Beef short rib with the pasta was also really good and cooked perfectly! All the staff are very friendly all helping each other and making sure everything is to our liking. My wife and I were lucky enough to stop by this weekend while visiting friends in Detroit. Everything was superb by Chef Paul and his crew. I highly recommend trying the tasting menu if you are so inclined. The menu was delicious and flawlessly prepared. The restaurant is very covid friendly as things are opening up. They even have an outdoor area opening up in a couple weeks that looks very comfortable. This restaurant has apparently been there a long time. I like to think I eat out enough to know the scene, and I had heard of it, but it wasn't on my radar. A frown make a reservation for our group of 4 couples and when we walked it, got very nervous. There were 2 other couples in the dining room and it was relatively quiet. Until we showed up. Our server Sarah was awesome, and her partner Justin was great also. We ordered a ton of food - the homemade charcuterie board was great to start. We added a few items from the veggie section for the table, but if you love food and trust the restaurant, I highly recommend the chefs tasting menu of 6 courses. From halibut to sweetbreads to tuna tartar, then duck, it was the perfect way to explore the whole menu. My guess is that it's a big theater spot, and on non theater nights will be pretty quiet, but when you bring your own party, it was perfect.
