I would give this place less than one star. The ambiance is way to try hard. The mozzarella was definitely not fresh along with the seafood. I even asked our waiter who appeared to maybe also be the owner. He said both were fresh. He seemed to be the owner as well based off the fact that in the middle of ordering our food he went to go take a call. It is also very rude to do that as well of course. I also saw one table sent their soup back. Someone recommend this place to me and I should've known not to go based off of the reviews. I find it odd that this place has been here for a while yet has so few reviews and not a lot of positive ones. The place is over priced for the food they served. On a Monday evening, we went there around 6pm to have dinner after work. There were only one table occupied. We were greeted and seated as soon as entered, the waiter brought 4 slices of bread with packed butter. The bread was ok- just a normal Italian bread we can purchase from any grocery store. After 10 minutes, we ordered Carciofi Francese for appetizer and beef braciole and 4 cheese ravioli for entree. The appetizer arrived around 6:50 - which is 40 minutes after we had placed the order; considering how slow the place was the food came out very slow. The entrees came out around 7:15, which is after 65 minutes of placing the order. The waiter never stopped by to ask if we needed more drink or bread. Overall experience was very bad. My husband and I decided to stop by Clemenza's pizzeria on our way back from the Short Hills Mall. Our experience left a lot to be desired. We both had the fried calamari, which was undercooked and rubbery. We shared an extra-large (18 inch) pizza and ordered another 18 inch extra large pizza to go. When we got our pizza, we both thought it was kind of small, but didn't say anything to our waitress. The pizza was very bland. And the pizza sauce had a sour taste. Not much cheese. When we got home, I measured the Pizza we bought to take home. It measured 14 inches! The food is mediocre. And the place is a rip off. In addition, the cooks at the pizza counter and the restaurant cooks are CLEARLY not Italian. That may be the reason why the Italian food is just so-so. read more

Had a very unpleasant experience here, Booked through open table early Saturday afternoon for a 6:30 rez that night. Arrived and was told they really did not want to take my rez because it came in so late but had no way to contact me. They would seat me but not in the main dining room which was 95% empty. I was offered a table in a very noisy back room holding a few very large parties. After much persuasion I was giving a table in the main dining room but a very disrespectful experience was not forgotten. By the way, the dining room remained empty for almost an hour and a half. There are too many good restaurants in Millburn to return to a place that disrespects patrons who book on open table. In addition, nothing special about the food. The food is great decent slice portions, they aim to please. Overall the experience was better than expected, for a quick bite to eat on a drive. They have nice specials for lunch like $5 this and $5 that. Obviously the residents of Millburn are in the know about this train wreck of a restaurant because tonight on a Friday night despite the rain other then the eight people at our table the place was empty at 9:00 PM (on a Friday Night). This restaurant is nothing but an over glorified pizzeria. The calamari appetizer (frozen calamari) is a very small portion with with unflavored marinara sauce. Almost every entree comes with pasta on the dish to make the portion sizes look larger. Why not have the pasta in another dish? I have been to many pizzeria's that have much better food and better service at half the price.The waiters are totally clueless because of this manager probably never trained them properly. Obviously she is not capable of overseeing the entire operation or the wait staff. If the wait staff were managed properly they would not bring the wrong order to the patron's table and instead of two people waiting for their correct order the entire party could be eating together instead of people eating when the correct order finally arrived. I can spend my money for far better food at the same price and better service anywhere else and be an appreciated customer then other then another number. We've eaten at Clemenza's before, but we went there this past Saturday nite to get together with family . There were seven people,. When the food arrived, it looked ok, but when we started to eat, we all felt, the food was not great. The restaurant has gone down. The food was not fresh. One member of our party ordered a veal dish, She said the veal was not good. We told the waiter, and they took it off the bill. My husband ordered pasta with clam sauce. It was tomato sauce with some clams added. I had eggplant parm, but the sauce was not that good. This restaurant needs a new chef,,and fresh food. We did not enjoy the meals served. Will not go back. This might be my favorite Italian restaurant in my area. Portion sizes were done perfectly and the food tasted like authentic Italian. I got the spinach and sage ravioli and WOW was it good. La Cucina Di Clemenza has delicious authentic Italian food. The calamari and meatballs are delicious. For the entree, I've had the Veal Chop Milanese, the Chicken Francese, and the salmon, all of which were delicious. They do sell some wine although it is BYOB. The pizza is very good the sauce is good along with the cheese and crust. Getting one pie takes very long to come out. There are free refills. But very limited drinks. The restarting is smaller then most but there will be no troubles finding room. The margarita pizza is amazing, along with the garlic knots. read more

Amazing food!! The staff there is friendly and welcoming. Their banana cheesecake is super good. I would definitely recommend this place.

Visited the Brick Oven Pizza portion of their restaurant and we were thoroughly amazed. This pizza is awesome! The only other great pizzeria in the area that I know of is Arturo's in Maplewood, but I think this is actually better. We had a larger-sized Margherita and it was made-to-order. The sauce, cheese and garlic all worked in perfect harmony. The staff was attentive and friendly. The only thing dampening the experience was that it was the dead of winter and the ceiling fan was on. Also the wait was a bit long, but understandable since you're waiting for a fresh pie. It may be even longer with more customers ordering. We were invited to check out the main restaurant which is very well-decorated. All-in-all, the pizza is great, so, as Clemenza would say, "Leave the gun, take the cannoli." I don't know how that quote applies, but it seems apt. read more

I had lunch here today with a coworker for the first time. We sat in the dining area and service was very slow. 45 minute wait.. The place was empty, so I'm not sure why service was poor. Finally our grilled chicken wrap arrived and the chicken was raw. Not pink, raw and clear! We sent it back and it was removed from our bill. I live in town and have never tried La Cucina Di Clemenza before. Ordered take out Chicken Parmesan and Caesar salad last week. Online Menu said chicken Parmesan was $13. When I called to place order the lady asks me if I want from the pizza parlor or fine dining. I said, I don't know, just want 2 orders of each. I go to pick up and it's $57. I asked how that could be and the women says that the chicken Parmesan is $19. Told me the $13 price was from the pizza parlor and I asked for the fine dining when given a choice. I would have left without the food on principle but my daughter was expecting me to come home with dinner for her and her friend. So basically this women hosed me when wanted 2 orders of chicken Parmesan and 2 Caesar salads to go. I told her that $19 for chicken Parmesan to go better be the best chicken Parmesan I have ever tasted. Well it wasn't. I am not sure what they consider fine dining to be but recommend you avoid this place as the food was poor and their ethics are worse. read more

My boyfriend and I were celebrating with some friends and decided to try a new recommendation, La Cucina. It is BYOB, which I prefer for many reasons. The music lulls you in from the street and the soft lighting brings you into a warm, comfortable Italian Bistro feel. The menu is HUGE and it took awhile for us all to pick our selections but the staff was very patient and well informed with the ingredients as we have some "picky" eaters. My chicken oreganata was delicious and more than I could possibly finish but I did manage to enjoy some meatballs which were crazy good!! The other diners had some nicely presented plates which all came steaming out of the kitchen. Didn't have room for desert but I will be back for the attached pizzeria that had too many specialty pies to just pick one. read more

DON'T EAT HERE!! There are so many nice restaurants in Millburn, don't waste your time on this place. I've never seen such discourteous and unpleasant management. There were so many problems this night, I don't even know where to begin. We dined on a Sunday night, and there was one server with a few bus people working about 10 tables. The server did not greet us for at least 10 minutes upon our arrival. My grandma was itching for some wine, which the bus person said he wasn't able to get. After the server finally shows up, he asks, "What do you want to order?" What about drinks, apps, do we have any questions? Ok so we get over this hurdle. Maybe he's just a little busy. Grandma gets wine, we get salads. Dinner arrives. The server wasn't there when the food was served and there was a mix up of pasta (whole order of pasta was served to someone instead of a sidedish). The waiter graciously said he would take it off the bill. But, the biggest problem was that myself and another person at my table ordered Grilled Salmon for dinner. The sides were veg and mashed potato. We totally understand if there was one piece of Salmon left and no mashed potatoes because it was the Sunday after New Year's, but please BE HONEST! What the kitchen did was cut the one piece of Salmon into two small pieces (I order salmon by the ounce at the grocery store because I have a small child) so I KNOW that I was served a piece of salmon no more than 4 ounces! The other person had this before and said he had never had such a small piece here. And then the mashed potatoes were microwaved baked potatoes scooped out and mashed with a fork. There was no milk or butter in them. The hostess/manager woman came over and basically argued that maybe her chef "cut a different cut" of the salmon that night, and that her mashed potatoes are "squeezed from a pastry shell" when clearly they were not. She wouldn't even look at the plate; all she said was you already got free pasta I'm not taking anything off. Any experienced and professional restaurant owner would have said listen, "I'm sorry, maybe there was a mistake in the kitchen. I will take off one salmon, but I am going to charge you for the pasta." Then she had the gall to come over and ask if we wanted desert. It's too bad my family dines here frequently ; never, ever again. read more

Got a lunch special- margarita personal pizza for $6.. I could barely eat it and threw out most of it. First off, not one basil leaf was on this pizza. I had dinner here with two friends last night. The pictures on the website make the place look cute and cozy, but once we walked in we realized it was nothing more than a glorified pizzeria. Oh well. We decided to stay since what really matters is food and service. Unfortunately, this place lacks both. The food was not bad. It was just average. Nothing that you can't get in your local pizza joint. When you take this into consideration, then this place actually is overpriced for what you get. I ordered beef braciole. I have had this dish in other restaurants so I was very disappointed by what I got here. It was a tiny roll of meat. Most places would give you two of that size or one big piece. So for $21 it was nothing special. The fried calamari was fishy and rubbery. The arancini were very good. My friends said their meals weren't bad, but they were nothing special. The dessert menu was also very uninspiring. Several selections of cheesecake and your standard Italian fare. The service was terrible. About four or five different people took care of us, but none of them were friendly; no one checked on us after the entrees were served. Bottom line, try some of the other restaurants Millburn has to offer. read more

This restaurant is formerly La Cucina on Essex Street in Millburn and they have opened in a larger space. A group of us at the office ordered take out for lunch this week. Two of us had the pasta fagioli, one had the eggplant parm sandwich and one of us had the meatball sandwich. Everyone loved their lunch. The soup is a quartz size container for $7.50 which I think is a very good price. Sometimes we pay $5 - 6for a pint at some places and it's not even good. This was excellent and filling. The meatballs were outstanding and the eggplant was good too. The eggplant was a little bland in my opinion but sliced very thin which is how I like it. We were going to order the individual pizza too but when we called the price went up $4-5 from what the website says and it was only $1 for a full pizza so we skipped it. Good thing because the soup was very filling. I would definitely go back and try some of the other soups and pasta. read more

My wife made reservations for my birthday. The ambience and decor is very upscale, unique and inviting. The greeting and service were prompt, friendly and attentive. We shared an order of the famous meatballs for appetizer and the homemade canolis for desert, both of which were terrific and enough for two. My wife had the linguini with shrimp which she enjoyed, and I had the lobstertail, clams and mussels special which was outstanding. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience.
