Yesterday 4/27/25 When I got to the unit, there was a green tag to remove to open it and a lock inside. I didn't want their lock for 20$. I told them I had my own lock after I put my things in there. I locked it with my own lock. Returned their lock then a hour later I get a call later saying that she cut my lock off because I put it on the wrong unit. How did I put it on the wrong unit when the unit has tags on it if there's no lock? Also, if I put it on the wrong unit that was another customer's, would've had another lock on there? +3 witnesses states I put my lock on the right unit and I have a video. so then my stuff was left without a lock until I got back to put another lock on there. I told her on the phone I was on my way with another lock when I got there the office door was locked stating they be back soon. I was literally in the car with my nephew on the phone with her coming right back . I am telling everybody about this incident and I won't be a customer long! read more

Not the place to rent for longer then 5 Months. They wanted to raise the rent $5.00 after 5 months. I talk to the District manager he said that they can raise the rent anytime. He said he will keep my rent the same for four months I just paid my rent for 3 months. next rent do in 11/15/2016 they are raising $10.00 a month. I have a outside parking spot. This is what they said as to why. (adjustments to our customers' rental rates in order to keep up with the rising costs associated with providing top-notch service and a clean facility. Again I'm OUTSIDE. Now I'm moving out now instead of making $570.15 for 9 months they make $0.00 But they have more room for snow so for trying to steal $90.00 for 9 months they lose $570.15. that's some fine management skills. LOL Stay away from Cubesmart they will bait and switch. Offer low pricing get to move in then start raising the rent. read more

This is the best storage place ever!! Rachel is amazing! Our horrible moving company gave us less than a 24 hour notice and everywhere was closed. We were able to make our reservation online and we got a phone call to confirm our reservation first thing in the morning. The moving company is bringing our stuff (20 boxes, a bed, and a dresser) in an 18 wheeler... Which most places dont fit but the Manager Rachel was able to work with us and find us a storage unit near the front so that the moving company has access to unload. AMAZING PLACE and super friendly people!!! read more

Then this crappy bunch bought out the old folks. I immediately call them to set up automatic payments. NOPE. I have to bring in precious Trust papers and a death certificate. KRISTY also doesn't seem to be able to remember that my Mother is dead. After the whole conversation with this rude woman, she had the gall to call me Marion. After I told her Marion is dead. For all you fellow Chicago Cubs fans, you'll LOVE the fact that this U-Haul store is located on Waveland Avenue! Hey Chicago, whaddya say? Let's rent a U-Haul truck today! So I ended up renting a 15' truck for a day, and I have to say that of all the U-Haul locations I've rented from, I have now met the best U-Haul store owner ever in Karl (make sure you spell his name with a "K")! Be sure to ask him about van or truck availability, as well as to explain how much it will cost you per day AND cost per mile (depending on what vehicle you end up renting). In addition, be sure to also ask Karl about the "Take a box, Leave a box" program that he hopes to have in the future at this particular U-Haul location. The process of obtaining the 15' truck went very smoothly, and Karl even gave my buddy and me a free bottled of water each for our move! I mean, who does that anymore? Karl also included a helpful chart to let you know how much gas you'll need to put into the gas tank in order to get it back to the level the truck originally started with. The next morning, after I had returned the U-Haul truck, I saw the pride in cleanliness Karl has in his company when I saw him go to work wiping down the truck's dashboard and when he mentioned he would mop the entire floor of the truck's storage area afterward. Just FYI, for any future 15-foot truck renters, the gas needle took 10-15 minutes to go up from the 3/8 level to the 7/8 level I was supposed to fill the gas tank up to. All in all, Karl and his awesome customer service was the reason why I'm giving this U-Haul location 5/5 stars and the reason why I'm not going to rent a truck from anywhere else besides this U-Haul location if I ever need to move in Lake County again!

For example, I pulled a box from my unit one day and unknowingly had a single crayon and a paper clip fall out from the bottom of the box. The next day she called threatening that I had to "come clean up my mess" or she would charge me a $50 fee. The unit itself was very old and in poor repair. My belongings all got destroyed with water damage, pooling water, mold and mildew, and flaking paint. I complained, and the manager said there was nothing she could do about the flaking paint, and blamed the damage on me not opening up the unit often enough to allow for air circulation. Ridiculous! Additionally, the rent has been steadily increasing every couple of months, while absolutely nothing about the service or facility had improved. They blamed the increases on rising costs. I could believe that the first time, but not the next 4 increases, especially given the poor quality of the unit I was in and the declining condition of the facility overall. There are definitely better options available - choose one of them instead!

Upon entry of the building there were a variety of dead bugs in the hallways around certain unit doors. Like I've said, the place has gone downhill at an alarming rate since Mike has left. Never have I had an issue with this location until now.

Access & Security: 24/7 access is available with enrollment but the standard hours were more than…read moresufficient for us. All access is electronically controlled by PIN pads located throughout the building and each locker has a keyed padlock on it. Depending on your locker size you might get an individually monitored unit alarm, ours had it, smaller lockers might not. The entire building has tons of CCTV cameras located throughout and looks very secure against would be burglars. Cleanliness: Even the bathrooms are secured by PIN pad, if that doesn't tell you the place is kept extremely clean then I don't know what will. Everything is immaculate inside the building with the exception of some scuffs and scratches here and there from people recklessly careening through the halls with loading dollys. Price: I hear it already, I can hear the voices of people saying "that place is expensive" SHUT UP! You get what you pay for. If you want top tier storage with high security and climate control to guarantee that your sensitive vinyl record collection and high end computers stay safe during your move you're going to need a company like Safeguard. Bottom line: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Don't skimp on protecting your stuff if you have high value items. If you're just storing a bunch of boxes of clothes and general housewares you probably don't need a fancy storage provider with climate controlled indoor storage and can go for an outdoor locker. All that said, for what we were storing, records and high value computing and storage arrays along with a plethora of other sensitive electronics it was well worth the extra money knowing our stuff was safely stored under climate controlled lock and key. Location: It's right off the highway which makes it easy to get to with a large truck and their loading dock can accommodate most any truck you can throw at it. Loading Dock: An enclosed loading dock is a nice plus especially when it's suddenly started raining and you want to unload your truck into storage. Unloading dollies are provided and all were in good working order when I was there. Bottom Line: If you are looking for top notch storage this is your place. If you are storing low value items that don't need climate control then you might be better served elsewhere.
