Unfortunately, I am a bbq snob. I have spent a ton of money and time on the finer points of "all things cue". So, with this said, Chubby's BBQ at best is an average restaurant. Second point; this is not a bbq joint by the true meaning of the bbq joint. Chubby's BBQ is a restaurant that serves a variety of items. Ribs, chicken, burgers, steaks, sandwiches, salads, etc. very standard family oriented food. Nothing wrong with this. Chubby's is a very family friendly restaurant that on my visit on Saturday was packed with kids, grandparents, etc.; but delicious cue was not on the menu. While the hanger steak was very delicious; at $20 for a 7 oz steak with garlic bread and potato; very expensive for this area and environment. Not much value. Ribs have some work to be done.They where smothered in a sweet commercial brand bbq sauce. It was very over powering. Ribs where way over cooked. No pull, no smoke, no flavor, no something is missing. Not worth the price at $25. I know, I am being mean, but I am not. I love cue and I take it to the competition level. I just love good cue. The billy v pecking order; 1. NY Jets, 2. cue and 3. The Wife. Being funny; hope wife does not read lol. Don't get me wrong, Chubby's is a great place to take the kids for some food, but if you are a serious cue lover you would be very disappointed. Overall, Chubby's is pricey for the area. I spend money. Ask the wife when the bills come end at the end of the month. I just feel the quality in relationship to the price; just not there. Chubby's seems to be living on it's past history. Perfect example of why I think Yelp needs a half-star rating option. Better than a three star but not quite a four. Anyway, the ribs were ok. They aren't smoked, likely baked and finished on the grill. They were tender, but over sauced. They weren't anything special, really, and that's what they claim to be famous for. Buffalo Wings were decent, cooked well and had a good kick to them. Fries were nothing special, but the onion rings were awesome! Worst part? It's expensive. A half rack of baby backs was $19...six wings were $9. For that kind of money I'd expect better, especially where the ribs are concerned. Best BBQ I've had in a long time. Ordered in and out multiple times and never been disappointed. Atmosphere is laid back inside and ordering take out is extremely easy, sometimes even ready in a couple minutes. (Aren't baby back ribs supposed to be like 3 inches long or something?) We've been here a few times and have tried different items each time, and we've not been disappointed. The place is clean and tidy, and was fully jammed with diners around lunchtime on a Saturday. There's not many great bbq around nnj and Cubby's is just average. The portions are huge but it only taste average and its a bit pricey. Got a half a rack with 2 sides and a soda and total came up to around 28 dollars. For about the same price could have gotten AYCE korean BBQ. Got the sweet potato mash and the mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was really good. What's nice is that you don't need to tip and there is free refills on soda. They also have beer on draft to boot. They also have boyland's and Pepsi for the soda fountain. Boooo to Pepsi. Unfortunately, it's really noticeable that its tap water that mixes with the syrup for the soda machine. Been here many times for the burger and I am NEVER disappointed. I get the 10 oz. bacon cheddar burger platter cooked medium. Cooked perfectly (Like an experienced person is on the grill) and so juicy. Fries are always hot, fresh and crispy. They hold up to ketchup well. It's a pricy burger platter at $14.75. But worth it. Really filled this big eater. Coleslaw side (included) is real good as well. It is truly a steakhouse quality burger. Cubby's BBQ was a random find for my friends and me as we were searching for dinner on a Friday night. We walked in and weren't expecting to see a setup where you order food at the counter and seat yourself, but figured we'd give it a try. We each ordered something different and were amazed at the portion sizes, especially for the sandwiches. I had the honey mustard chicken sandwich and feel like it was one of the best honey mustard sauces I've had in a while, not to spicy and not too sweet. My friends also had sandwiches and I was told the buffalo chicken had the perfect amount of spiceyness and the steak sandwich was cooked to their specified rareness. We also had someone in our group order the chicken and rib combo, which was really good and the meat was falling off the ribs, but for $30 it was a little lacking. The Mac & cheese side was one of the best. The location is a little far from my house, but I might consider taking a ride for the ribs. read more
