After a first attempt to visit this place on a Monday. (They are closed on Mondays). We finally made our way back. This was just after a visit to the new Worthy brewery for the first time. It was kinda like getting out of a Cadillac and into a Pinto as far as the facilities go. First, it felt like you were sitting in a walk-in cooler. I've never been in a restaurant that was that cold, but the concrete counter tops and steel stools helped alot! This could be great in the Summer. Second, they have a one person restroom....HELLO.... this is a place where.... aahhhh......you drink beer. Take a number, mine was #3. The menu is limited. I cannot comment on the food, only the beer. We really liked most of the beers we tried. ($10.00 for a six pack sampler) If you can find it, check it out and judge for yourself. Crux is the essential Bend beer experience. We're huge fans of their beer, especially the Half-Hitch Double IPA. The brewery is no exception to their excellence. The space is warm, welcoming and has so many seating options. The outdoor space is simply magical in the summer. Tucked away by the Pilot Butte Canal and in the shadow of Route 97, it is appropriate that one of the Bend Ale Trail's shining stars is off a street called Industrial Way. Many of the best craft breweries in the country are set in an industrial area, which in this case provides ample parking along the road. Food trucks and plenty of outdoor space for adults and kids alike, I was happy to find a packed house one a Sunday night before Labor Day. I grabbed a spot at the wide bar and immediately was greeted with a sheet to compile my own six option sampler from at least 15 taps. This was my first beer stop after making the trip from Virginia and was impressed with the customer service, along with how diligently the bartender kept my water glass full. The beer here really stands tall, from the unfiltered German pilsner all the way to the Doublecross strong dark Belgian ale. I was particularly impressed with the On the Fence pale ale on nitro and the Sugar Daddy "sweet" pale ale. Unfortunately the Flanders Red was recently out, but the bartender quickly recommended a Belgian red, which was a nice follow up to the Impasse saison farmhouse ale. I didn't try any of their bottled and barrel-aged offerings, but did enjoy a full pint of their Outcast IPA with Galaxy hops. A variety of glassware allows their craft to be savored in an appropriate manner. The interior space has a relaxed reclaimed vibe with high ceilings and local art. The clientele on my visit certainly fit the outdoorsy/hipster stereotype of Oregon and while the place was clearly busy, I thought they had great service and it was easy to have a conversation at the bar. Interesting detail - they don't have a traditional happy hour, but rather a "sundown hour" with specials on beer and starters. Crux is a must on any beer-centric visit to Bend, along with Deschutes, GoodLife, Boneyard and 10 Barrel. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside and watched lots of people playing yard games, playing with their dogs, and enjoying a band they had playing. Really fun brewery with tasty beverages and food. I had the farmhouse saison and a couple of their pilsners over the course of a few hours. They have seating indoors as well as outside with games and tables. Enjoyed the tunes they had playing as a majority of it was 90s alternative. Servers and bartenders were very nice and also met some nice locals at the bar area. Had half of a bahn mi sandwich and a cup of their chili.
