I placed a mobile order because I was craving some chocolate as usual. I decided to go with the chocolate molten lava cake. It was freshly made when I got to the location. They just finished with a fresh batch. The worker came to me with the lava cake to show me it before boxing it up. He gave me some chocolate drizzle on the side as well. If you don't like the chunky thickness of a Levain cookie, but still want a decadent cookie, try Crumbl. It's still very heavy and super-sweet, but Crumbl cookies are colorful, visually appealing, and wildly diverse in terms of taste. I personally like the cookies and cream brownie cookie the best, while the mint cookie is also very tasty. Staff is friendly and offered a free cookie for getting my order wrong. I strongly recommend ordering online ahead of time, since you can schedule when you want to pick up in advance. There are occasional sales (e.g at the time of my writing this, it's a 6 cookies for the price of 4). Speaking of price, it's definitely not cheap, at about $4.50 per cookie, not including tip or tax, so it's only slightly cheaper than Levain. Crumbl was one of the establishments we visited while conducting a "scientific" taste test comparison of chocolate chip cookies (CCCs) on the UWS. (You can see some of our findings under the Chip City review: https://www.yelp.com/biz/chip-city-new-york-7) The subjects of study, as curated by my 12-year old, were CCCs from Chip City, Levain, Crumbl and Insomnia. TLDR: Our current rankings: - Levain / Chip City - Insomnia - Crumbl The Deets: We prefer our CCCs to be soft, even gooey on the inside (e.g. ideally warm with melty chocolate), with a slightly crisp crust on the outside. And we like them buttery, but not overly sweet. Size was not factored in except insofar as it impacted texture; neither was price. By these metrics, Crumbl's CCCs were just ok. Like all the other cookies we tried except for Insomnia, Crumbl's CCCs are supersized, about 4 inches in diameter and an inch or 1.5 inches thick. Unlike Chip City and Insomnia CCCs, which came to us warm, Crumbl's was cold and a touch hard all the way through, which resulted in a low score on the soft & gooey scale. We did love how buttery and fragrant the cookie was, how it was studded through with generous amounts of chocolate. This thing probably would have been amazing right out of the oven! And had we rated all of the cookies we tried cold, Crumbl's probably would be close to Levain in likability and possibly better than Chip City and Insomnia (by our subjective standards, of course). Pros: - The staff were working their tails off one one of the busiest days, the day before Thanksgiving. They managed to be friendly and efficient, cool as cucumbers despite the pressure. No weak links that we could see anywhere. Amazing. Cons: - The amount of superfluous waste this business generates is heartbreaking for anyone concerned about the environment. Levain and Insomnia both asked us whether we preferred a paper sleeve or a box for our cookies. (We chose the less wasteful sleeve.) Chip City didn't give us a choice, but dumped all our cookies carelessly into the same sleeve. I'm sure the staff thought they were doing customers a kindness by putting all orders in those pretty, waxed cardboard boxes, but we saw so many folks eating their purchases and immediately disposing of those boxes in the garbage, probably too smeary with food to recycle. It would be wonderful for Crumbl to offer purchases on plates or in paper sleeves. I personally resolve to bring my own reusable container next time! Neither here nor there: - The small pies we ordered alongside our cookies were enjoyable confections, homey and similar to what a southern or midwestern family might make for a church picnic. The Oreo cookie pie definitely evoked something nostalgic in me, but don't expect confections as elevated as what you might purchase at a Dominique Ansel or Mille-Fuielle. I took my teen niece visiting New York because she fell of the hype. She was somewhat happy with the flavors but they were all wayyyy too sweet for me. But the worst thing is that they obviously market their pretty pink boxes, except the size is much too long to fit in a tote bag sitting flat, so you are left trying to carry this long box while walking around and by the time you get home the cookies are a hot mess! So, Crumbl, if you have a stupid-size box you should offer a bag it can fit in to carry it with, considering the price you charge! read more

My sister received a box of Crumbl cookies as a gift, and since she rarely eats sweets, the cookie monster in me emerged to help :D * Chocolate Covered Pretzel Pie Sweet, salty, and decadent-- with a brownie pie cookie base, semi-sweet buttercream filling, salted pretzel pieces, and a drizzle of milk chocolate. I found the cookie delicious, though it was hard to finish more than half in one sitting. * Lemon Cupcake Sweet and zesty, with a strong lemon flavor and hints of vanilla. I've had this flavor before and it remains one of my favorites. * Honey Bun I haven't had a honey bun in forever, and honestly, I don't even remember what it tastes like. That said, I was pleasantly surprised by this one; it reminds me of the Teddy Grahams cinnamon-flavored graham crackers. Had only seen the viral videos of Crumbl cookies on social media before coming and I was very doubtful that they were really as good as people said on the videos I watched. Let me tell you, they are way better than I imagined!! First of all, their store was sooo cool, they have like the cookie factory right there and while you make your order, you can also see the team making the cookie dough, mixing it, etc. The ambiance was light, fresh and cool, and all the employees seemed like they were having such a great time!!! Loved it. Their cookies were some of my favorite, we ordered a box of 4: sugar ft mother's circus animal, chocolate cake, kentucky butter cake and milk chocolate chip. They were all AMAZING. Perfectly made and all the right amounts of everything, they were not too sweet, not hard, not overly baked, it was just perfection!!! The ultimate favorite was Kentucky butter cake, then followed the sugar ft mother's circus animal. I have discovered that I'm not a huge fan of chocolate cookies, so barely tried the chocolate ones, they were very good and my bf loved them, but can't really offer my unbiased opinion. This was our first time trying Crumbl cookies, and it was unfortunately a disappointment. They are new to the upper West side neighborhood. The restaurant itself is bright and airy smells delicious and the service was good. Unfortunately, it's the cookies that were not as pleasing. The flavor, nor the taste was impressive. I consider myself a cookie connoisseur and I've tried many cookies in many different states, and I hate that I only could give this place two stars. The texture was soft and slightly gooey, but there really wasn't any distinct, taste or flavor. I will not be returning anytime soon. However, try for yourself. I can't recommend it. read more

3.5 / 5.0 - It seems there wasn't enough competition for bakeries and cookie stores in UWS, because here comes another! I stopped by Crumbl on Friday, which was their official opening day. I had anticipated a long line, but possibly because it was at night (8:30pm), there was hardly a wait so I decided to go in. The staff behind the counter was friendly, welcoming each customer entering the store. There are 2 kiosks for ordering and you can also order at the counter. The line was short so I ordered a Milk Chocolate Chip Cookie ($5) at the counter. There is a separate pick-up counter, and they brought my cookie out, placed in their pretty pink box. It is a pretty box, but I would love for them to make the cookies cheaper without the box. I prefer soft cookies (vs hard), so I liked that it was soft. But it was too sweet for my taste--I didn't love the dough and the milk chocolate made it even sweeter. They have different flavors each week, so I'll have to try another one next time. read more

Went 30 mins to this location to active my cookie coupon. After waiting in line for 15 mins, I was told my t mobile coupon wasn't going to work (despite not being expired and they didn't even scan it) and there was nothing she could do and the worker laughed at me. I am not a sweets person, but I will go out of my way to get crumbl cookies. They are amazing! Soft and cooked perfectly and the flavors are delicious. Really can't go wrong if you are craving something sweet. They are a little pricey, but what isn't nowadays? The concept is also pretty cool. Never thought I would see the day Crumbl made it to NYC. Unsure if the flavors of the week repeat but this week there was; chocolate chip, pink sugar, blueberry crumb cake, dark dream and peanut butter. Out of the five I truly enjoyed only two which were the milk chocolate chip and the blueberry crumb cake. Chocolate chip has a hard shield and a chewy inside. The blueberry crumb cake taste like spring! Light and hints of lemon, it's giving lemon cake. The peanut butter was not bad neither, just make sure you enjoy it with a glass of milk. On my first visit, I told the guy I wanted his suggestion of his favorites after I let him know I was getting two cookies. He (I wish I had his name) suggested the classic chocolate chip and the caramel cake, which I believe was that weeks mystery cookie. I told him I was trusting his judgment on this, but he assured me he wasn't steering me wrong, lol. (All in jest, btw, nothing serious or threatening here.) Well, my dude was right! Loved them!! I can now say caramel cake is one of my favorites as well, so thanks to him! So, I returned this Friday during my lunch break and decided to get four cookies this time. INITIALLY, I was going to share but then the lady helping me told me her favorite was the Classic Pink Sugar Cookie: chilled, vanilla sugar cookie with pink almond icing (which I now know is available every week). Also, the mystery cookie was the Kentucky Butter Cake: a warm yellow butter cake cookie topped with a buttery glaze, which I had to try. Plus, I had to obviously pick up a milk chocolate chip again. And then she was saying the Sugar Featuring Mother's® Circus Animal™: a cookie filled with rainbow sprinkles with a topping of melted white chips, a Mother's® Original Circus Animal™ Cookie, and more sprinkles, was available and is at its best when eaten right away and of course I wanted to have one for lunch. I take my desserts very seriously so I will only go to places that are worth the calories. So when I saw the line around the corner of this place I knew I would be putting on a few lbs. The biggest problem I had with Crumbl was selecting the one I wanted to eat. I finally decided on the peanut butter cookie with banana frosting and a peanut butter drizzle on top. You order, give your name, pay and pick it up - sort of Starbucks style but your cookie awaits you in a beautiful pink box like a gift. The cookie is pretty big and thick and the icing is just as thick. The flavor is so fresh and delicious- it's like you're eating a spoonful of peanut butter and then took a bite of a banana. We also ordered Maple glaze which I liked it was like a snickerdoodle met maple and had a baby. My 5 year old didn't want to share her sugar cookie lol and I liked the chocolate chip cookie because the chocolate chips were huge. My favorite thing is that the cookies are not overly sweet. 3.5 Came in on opening day of the UWS location after watching it go up over the last few months. It wasn't busy around lunch time but there were plenty of folks working there. You order and pay at the kiosk, $5/cookie or $16 for 4 cookies. I only wanted to try two flavors so I ended up with two individual boxes with one cookie each. They took only a few minutes to come out and we're presented boxes open for my review. I definitely for a single cookie the box is overkill in the packaging department, it felt very wasteful to me. I tried the cowboy cookie and the honey bun - of the two the honeybun was my favorite. Both were much better fresh and warm than later. They were too sugary for my taste, similar to insomnia but larger and thicker. I hear the flavors rotate, so I might be back to try others but am not sure if it will be a go to spot over many other amazing cookies in the UWS. read more

When I went, I was the only one there. I've seen it all over my Instagram and after trying it, realized this is one of those places that is more for Instagram hype than anything else. Had trouble applying my code, but the people working really couldn't bother didn't ask if needed help after standing there for 10 min. I got the Oreo milkshake, it was soft, the icing is a bit chalky. The cookie could be more appealing, with real frosting like on a cupcake or having a filling or making it more buttery to make the hype real. The Waffle: A lump of butter. Underbaked, not very waffle like. Stodgy and a downer, NOT airy and light. Not a waffle. And the syrup accompaniment -- Smuckers breakfast syrup. The Lemon something: this was the most like a sugar cookie from a tube. Perhaps pair a with a beer for Shandy/Radler/Panaché for more enjoyment. The choco-chip: biggest disappointment, bottom of the barrel, Nestle Tollhouse Incorporated. Undercooked. Too milky for a so-called "semi-sweet" chunk.
