Right now I am especially loving Crown Hill. We just finished a massive wildfire that burned 1/3 of Napa County. Our home was surrounded by fire up from Lake Berryessa. Over the past several years we have conferred with Crown Hill on clearing and natural landscaping for fire prevention. We always received their thoughtfulness and ended up working very specially with a driver named Isaac. (He even called us after the fire to ask if we were okay - wow, who does that?). Their advice led to beautiful landscaping and our house is 100% secure. The fire had surrounded our house on all sides but remained far below the main structure. It burned trees, some out lying structures where I had no decomposed granite or natural tiles. Prickly pears with it were like a wall of security. Needless to say, we love Crown Hill. read more

Shopping for landscape materials can be like shopping for a used car. Not so with Crown Hill in Napa. They go above and beyond. The materials we ordered arrived promptly. However, signals got crossed, and the gravel that was delivered was not the size that we expected. From my perspective, it was probably a 50-50 issue--hard to attribute fault 100% to Crown Hill or to us. But Crown Hill owned it. They got the initial load off of our property promptly and delivered the gravel we wanted the next day. Based on my experience, this is a company that focuses on customer satisfaction. After finding a lot of plastic and glass in my "organic" compost. I returned the following day to let them know what I had found. Was just wanting to make them aware and possibly an apology. What I got was far from that. A shrug of the shoulders and a smirk with a "well we get it from the dump and the wind blows stuff in there" .So the same non organic compost I can get from the dump for half the price, they sell for organic and charge twice as much. They will never get another penny from me and I would highly suggest you think twice before doing business with them!!! read more

I am always quite reluctant to post a negative review about a local business as I know the impact it can have however after trying to speak to them direct and via their complaint form without any reply, I feel the need to let people know about their poor services. I went into their shop twice to look for bark or rock to fill my front landscaping. I was never greeted by the two employees at the register. I had to ask them for advice and even then it seemed like a chore for them to help me. I got the bare minimum which was the amount for each product based on my square footage. I even showed them pictures of my landscaping and still they didn't seem to know a lot or care to help me. Once I did decide on the bark, the girl at the desk said they would deliver between 3-5pm. When it came to the day of delivery I got a call from their delivery driver at 12pm saying he was at my house! I was quite flustered as I wanted to be there so I did my best to direct him where to put the bark. He ended up putting it on my driveway into the area I needed to do my landscaping. This caused me extra work. I called to complain but the person on the phone did nothing to help. Once I got to putting the bark down I noticed the bark was poorly made and dyed. Many pieces were half black and wood and there was loads of random pieces of trash throughout! It wasn't cheap to buy! I called and wrote them to complain but again got nothing back. I absolutely would not recommend Crown Supply for your landscaping products! read more

Got 3 yards of their raised bed mix and 1 yard of premium organic compost delivered (from American Canyon location). The were on time and the product looked way better than in the display at the store. The raised bed mix drains well and has a nice sponge like texture when you squeeze it in your hand. Not bad. I am by no means an expert, but I do my research. That said, maybe I was a bit naive to assume that the product would contain sufficient nutrients without the need for amendments. I filled my raised bed with 3 parts raised bed soil and 1 part compost with some rock phosphate, earthworm castings, and pearlite mixed into the top 6 inches. I planted my seedlings expecting them to thrive in the loose and nutrient rich environment I had provided them, but they just kind of maintained their size and got floppy, eventually developing some soil-borne diseases. After a while, I decided to test the soil, using the same ratio of soil + compost described above (without the ammendments). First I tried a DIY kit and found that the soil was completely void of nitrogen, was lacking in phosphorus, and had a potassium level off the chart. I then decided to test the soil in my bed (with ammendments included) via a lab and received the results in the attached photos. Just wanted to share with any prospective buyers so you know what you are getting. I might look into another company that is more focused on quality in the future, but also hear that this is not totally abnormal. read more

Avoid this place. Came to buy concrete sealer. People working inside have no knowledge about the product the sell. Couldn't tell me the difference between two sealers. They were not helpful in recommending any sort of product. Prices for sealer are at least $10 more than Home Depot and Amazon. They won't price match. This was so unlike a negative experience we had the day before in Santa Rosa that we just had to put a review on Yelp. The outdoor display of installed pavers is artistically done. Their driver showed up to deliver my black pebbles. He did not ask me where I would like them but proceeded to back his truck into my carport and unloaded 6 tons of rock. After he pulled away I noticed that he had unloaded the rock so that it dinged up a gutter and downspout in the carport. I talked to several people at Crown Hill Stone Supply, including the owner. They are not going to take responsibility for the damage to my house because they said I signed a waiver when they delivered that said they weren't responsible for any damage. Buyer beware. This is ridiculous as they must have insurance. Will not go back to this place and suggest you don't either. read more

I would suggest shopping elsewhere. After getting pushed back to help a couple who arrived after me (I had a truck and trailer ready to buy) I purchased 3/4 ton of a river rock and the person who appeared to be a manager loaded me up. One scoop of the tractor filled to the top. I thought it was odd that it was one scoop but I thought maybe it was a 1 yard scoop and he gave me extra since he made me wait so long. The next day I had to go back to get more because 3/4 yard wasn't enough. I told the guy in the yard I wanted a 1/2 yard. He loaded me up with the same tractor, same scoop filled to the top. I thought, huh, maybe I'm getting twice what I'm paying for thinking the scoop was a 1 yard scoop from the previous day. I went in to pay and it was a different person then the day before. I asked the guy how big the scoop was and he looked out the window and said a 1/2 yard. I told him how I was in the day before and showed him the receipt and said I only received one scoop which I paid for more. He said there was nothing he could do about it. A month or so later I'm shopping for artificial grass and a friend said he got some there. It was a Saturday afternoon and I had my wife call down to see what time they close, she was told 5pm. We load the baby in the truck and go down to look at samples. Its about 4:25 when we get there and the gate is closed up and the closed sign is out. I would highly recommend going elsewhere. Excellent customer service and all the products you could hope for. I was unable to get limestone at my local stone yard so I tried this place. Not only were they friendly and helpful over the phone (Paul), they were great in person. Paul described the various stone they had available and sent photos before I made the drive up there. He showed me the product I was hoping for as well as various other choices that were all in budget or below. He gave me details and spent a lot of individual time with me. He set up the delivery as soon as he could get the stone and the delivery was flawless. I highly recommend this company. Paul is great to deal with. I have NEVER felt the need to post on Yelp. It's just not something I feel the need to do. But my experience on Sunday, 5/29 was just so disturbing. I'm still pissed off. I went in the office to purchase 1.5 yards of Walk On bark. I paid the person behind the counter, Aldo. He told me that he would be out to help me in a few minutes. I went outside and parked near the walk on bark. My 9 year old son was with me so we walked around checking out the different rocks. He is into rocks. We waited and waited. I finally went back inside. Aldo looked surprised to see me still here. He asked if I had been loaded up. I told him no. He said he would take care of it right away. I went back outside and started to walk back to my truck. A young man came out of another building and yelled to me asking what I needed. I told him that I had been waiting 20 minutes for some help to get bark loaded in my truck. I continued my walk back to my truck. This same young man got in a loader and drove over to where my son and I were standing. He dropped the loading bucket down loud enough to scared my son and opened his window. He told me that I shouldn't give him any hassle. He didn't know I was waiting out here. His tone of voice was almost threatening. I couldn't believe it. I told him that I didn't deserve to be treated like this. He had scared my son by dropping the loading bucket near us. I told him I was going to get my money back. Which is what I did. In all my years I have never experienced such horrible customer service. It's sad. I used to like buying my yard supplies from Crown. read more
