I gave this business two chances. I am working on a remodel of a kitchen, bathroom and laundry/powder room. I came in to browse and see what new surfaces were out there as I started the project. On this initial visit I asked about some prices of a few tiles. The sales person ( I use the term loosely here) told me they were expensive. I asked again what the pricing was and she said she would have to check but did not make a move to do so. I am calling this the pretty Woman effect. I never asked if they were expensive, I asked what the cost was. This sales person never asked me anything about my project needs. Opportunity missed. The second time I came in to look at slabs. The girl at the front desk walked me to the back and then followed me around like I was going to steal a slab. When I asked about pricing she told me it would depend on the product I chose. I asked for the difference in pricing between a man made product and a natural stone in general. She didn't have any idea. I then asked for pricing on the slab next to me. She gave it to me per square foot. Is that how slabs are sold? I thought slabs were sold per slab. I will likely spend 20k or more on surfaces. This is one sale they won't be getting. read more

As soon as we rather hesitantly selected a slab of granite, Angel Lee brought over the perfect wall and floor tile so we could see how it worked together. Then she selected the right grout. Later, we brought in cabinet stain samples from another supplier & she unerringly pointed out the right selection there too. When one tile turned out to be cracked, Formation cheerfully replaced it, even matching the batch number. When you are shopping around for choices and price (an absolute MUST); Intertile is a good place to go for natural stone. They have HUGE selection of beautiful stone. VERY Important recommendation: If you are installing counters in a large space like a kitchen and will use more than one slab of same material in that space - YOU must instruct your tile/stone company AND fabricator/installer to take extra care to match the stone color and pattern at every spot where the slabs will meet. Unfortunately this was not done on my project and there was/is a viable miss-match. Be sure to view your slabs in direct sunlight -and in shade -- before your order and pay. Also be sure to view your stone with the "cut" template (before cut is made) in direct sunlight and in shade. Lastly, ask to speak with past clients with similar large space projects. The extra care on your part is "extra" but given the large investment in material and labor and the inability to "fix it" (without a sizable re-investment on your part) -- the "extra" effort on your part to assure the best final outcome is priceless. read more

Full disclosure: we spent all of 15 minutes here and didn't buy anything. Why? Because it sucked. I was looking for purple glass tile, very difficult to find. I called and the man on the phone said, "sure, we have all colors." I said, "actually, purple is really hard to find so can you check?" So he checks, comes back and says, "ya, we have some, come on in!" "Do you have samples?" I ask. "Ya, ya, come on in!" So we come in, and the woman who is in the front says, "I don't think we have any purple tile... I don't know who would have told you we do." She flips through and finds a picture of a tile, a raspberry color. Samples? You have to order them, for full price. Which is? $59 for a 4x4 piece. Did I mishear? How can that possibly be right? That would be $540 per square foot. Wha---?!! Not even going to bother discussing that one further. So we moved on, checked out the marble slabs. Not only were the prices higher than we'd seen elsewhere, but they wouldn't move slabs for you, "These are the slabs available now," we were icily informed. When I explained that we didn't want bookmatched slabs --where the grain runs in opposite directions--because I didn't want to emphasize the seam on our countertop, the woman just shrugged. Unlike GMS, which I highly recommend, she simply didn't care. I understand that you don't want to split up a pair, but why be such a bi---- about it? save your money, save your frustration, and go elsewhere. Like GMS. read more

I was recommended to go here by TrueStone to select my slabs. When I arrived I was greeted by Joseph. He was very patient, and its was a very educational experience. He was happy to show me everything I wanted and gave me very competitive pricing. I really felt that I got a great deal! Aside from the place being easy to get to - just off the freeway, with loads of parking, unlimited selection and variety, it was so clean you could eat off the floor.... and Joseph was very easy going and extremely pleasant. What made the experience that much better, was that a few weeks later, after the slabs had already been delivered to TrueStone and production had begun, I received a surprise call from Joseph. He let me know that he accidentally calculated my price using the incorrect slab numbers. My immediate apprehension was very short lived when he told me that I was overcharged and was going to be getting back a refund! WOW! Who does that? Apparently the 'Inte..." in Intertile must stand for Integrity... cause this company just earned a customer for life. Visited Intertile with a specific need in mind for kitchen backsplash tile. Two salespeople were very helpful and they had many options for us with our specific needs in mind. We selected a beautiful and unique glass tile that we did not see at any of the many other stores we visited. Trudee was very helpful throughout the process (even when we needed to rush order additional tile for our project as our contractor had mistakenly quoted us the incorrect square footage needed). My ONLY gripe is that Intertile did not contact us when our special order tile arrived in store so we didn't know it was available to pick up until we called to check on it. Large warehouse available for you to compare all the different types of stone: Marble, Granite, plus composites with Quartz, etc. They also have sample cabinets pieces for your use to see how your existing wood will match the walls and flooring. They also have a large "bone yard" of excess material for you to peruse for your smaller-sized projects and you don't require a full slab of material Donna is a great customer service representative full of good tips and advice. FS had a great selection of tile and stone and their coordination with our fabricator and contractor were spot on. In remodeling our bathroom, we needed a counter top material and floor/wall tiles. She helped us coordinate the tile, stone, cabinets, and paint colors for a perfect look and feel. We had our own interior designer! If you have masochistic tendencies and like being deceived, not having important information disclosed to you and enjoy being lied to, then by all means go to Intertile San Leandro. Please note that this review applies only to the San Leandro location of the Intertile stores. We saw granite slabs we were interested in, and Trudee the sales rep, said we could put a courtesy hold on them if we put in 50%, we agreed to it and submitted our credit card. Mind you she said courtesy hold. When we decided against the slabs and requested our money back, she said it was non-refundable. Nowhere on the large invoice page did it state that, and only in fine print on the credit card slip did it mention no refunds. She knew full well what our intentions were as courtesy hold and she did not disclose this fact...on purpose. So we were forced to make some purchases from their store to satisfy the amount that we lost to their deceptive practice. On the tile purchase form we found that they were going to charge $225 for shipping, $50 of it was a "surcharge"(nuisance fee), from Anaheim, which was ludicrous, since the tile we wanted had a distribution center only a short 9 miles away in Hayward. Trudee also mentioned that they were really a wholesale store NOT retail. This is not posted anywhere on their sign, their website, their paper work or their cards. Also she stated that they waived the 30% restocking fee which was not on the courtesy hold invoice and a lame attempt to make us feel grateful to them? When we requested the partial credit to be put back on our card, Steve stated it would be done that day, wrong, he didn't do it. He lied. We had to call again the next day and Dan M was actually nice enough to make good on the agreement. So beware if you chose to use this company. Know that you will be "taken" if you go as a "retail" customer, and never believe them if they say they can do a courtesy hold. Lack of integrity, honesty and customer service seems to to be their company motto at this store. read more

This is my second review ever. I feel like a seasoned pro! On the suggestion of my fabricator, I went to Intertile to find granite slabs for my countertop. Right off the bat, this place stood out from other granite showrooms I've visited. The bright, clean entry showroom was clean and "fancy"--lots vignettes around the room showing tile, marble and granite at work in Vegas-y kitchens and baths. The gal working there was friendly, introducing herself and inviting me to have a look around the slab showroom next door. (She even gave me a bottle of water! Now that's service!) The slab showroom was unique for two reasons. Number one: It was light, lit from both electric and natural light, so you could really get a look at the slabs. Number two: They had the most gorgeous granite and other rock I've ever seen. It's like a museum, I swear. I called my mom to tell her about some of the slabs I was looking at and I kid you not: I'm going to take her there in the future to see some of the rock slabs. Visiting the showroom gave me a new respect and love for the beauty of rocks--and that's saying something, because I've been a rock climber (outdoor!) since 2000. Prices were good, though I've seen them lower at some of the other showrooms in the area. I'll bet if you find it cheaper elsewhere, Intertile will meet the price. In any event, we're talking about maybe a couple bucks more a square foot. I'd rather pay a little extra to get a product I like from a retailer I feel like I can trust. Let's review: Excellent service. Awesome selection. Competitive prices. And as of today, I have cool new granite countertops in my kitchen, made from granite that I got at Intertile. Our contractor sent us here as a backup supplier for our soapstone needs. Although the original supplier came through a week later and we didn't purchase from Intertile, I wanted to share my experiences here. First, the granite selection here was incredible and you see stuff you don't see anywhere else. During the course of our search for kitchen counter stone, we went through several suppliers - from the prefab only guys all the way to the big stone distributors. The ones here at Intertile were unique and I was impressed. We already picked out soapstone counters but when we came here, we saw the Capolavoro granite and would have selected it had our original supplier flaked out (a Yelp review for those guys is coming...). Second, our sales rep, Trudee, was very knowledgeable and very nice to deal with. She answered all of our questions and was very responsive in trying to help us find stones that would fit our needs. There was no attitude nor snobbishness here. Third, the stones are located inside the warehouse portion of the shop, and you can browse to your heart's content in a dry and comfortable environment (important when it's hot or very cold outside). Unlike other places, the retail prices ($/sq ft) is listed next to each stone, so that gives you an idea of what the price is (although, no one pays retail, especially if you work with a fabricator that passes on their wholesale cost of the stone to you). If you are remodeling or building a new home, and you want high end finishes, this is the place for you. You'll find some very very unique stones. Pricewise - it is similar to the premium level stones offered by other distributors. But if your contractor works with a fabricator that passes on the wholesale costs to you, these stones are relatively reasonable (by premium stone prices, that is). I should note that I am only giving them 4 stars out of 5. The reason is that I didn't actually purchased our stone here, so I couldn't comment on that aspect of the experience. But other than that, my experience here was first rate. If I had to do it again, I would come here first and buy from them. read more

I was looking for a particular marble tile and after calling over 10 stores and running around town, nobody had it locally and required shipping from Los Angeles area. One of the stores I called (Marble Unlimited) recommended me to call Intertile. I am glad I did. They had what I needed in stock and I just drove over, checked out a few sample pieces, and purchase them. The guy at the pick up area was also nice enough to help me open up the boxes to allow me to inspect for any damages on the spot and then taped the boxes back for me and loaded up to my car. After a bit of frustration at two other tile shops out of town, I came here - closer to home. I was greeted warmly by Trudee who started showing me a variety of possibilities for my bathroom remodel - floor and shower wall tiles. I had a few 'false starts' by picking a lovely tile that turned out to be out of my price range. Trudee was like my personal coach and gave me directions and suggestions without any pushiness or pressure. In the end, we found the perfect shower wall tile to go with my 'encaustic style' floor tile and the shower pan. She spent many hours and a lot of patience working with me. We have been looking for countertop material for months all over the East Bay. When we walked into Formation Stone we were greeted with a smile by a young woman named Angel. The facility was clean and well organized which was a nice deviation from some places we had been. But the real gem here are the people, especially Angel. The day we were there they were very busy with a large outbound shipment but still took time to move granite slabs for us to view and were very pleasant about it. Right from the start Angel started asking questions about our remodel project, what color scheme, type of stone we were thinking of, our likes and dislikes, etc. She made suggestions we hadn't thought of and ultimately ended up going with. I'd like to corroborate most of the ratings already posted here. My husband and I visited Intertile recently for our home remodel. We were looking for multiple rooms: tile, marble and granite. Trudee was helpful beyond the call of duty, patiently talking us through our decisions on color schemes and textures. We wound up purchasing the tile for one of our bathrooms (both wall and floor), granite for our kitchen countertops and marble for our bathroom vanity top. The marble (Golden Lightening) was one of the partial slabs in the Intertile stoneyard, selected with Trudee's assistance. A few weeks following purchase, we picked up the tiles when they arrived, and Intertile delivered the stone to our fabricator. No problems encountered during the entire process. Perfect experience! I had a very bad experience with a previous stone company, and called Formation Stone to see what they offered. Their selection of stone was nothing like any other place I'd seen- every piece was beautiful. I chose two gorgeous slabs of Carrera Marble, and I couldn't have been more excited for install day. After the previous experience, I truly felt like Formation Stone was saving the day. Angel was my sales rep. Angel helped me pick out my backsplash tile, matching it with my stone, and helping me with design advice. We even picked out the grout color to make sure everything was perfect. We redid our kitchen and needed to purchase granite and tile. Intertile was one of the recommendations and ended up purchasing several slabs of stone and tile from them. Trudi, Donna and Steve as well as the other employees were wonderful. After we had them delivered to our fabricator,there was a problem with one of the slabs and Intertile exchanged the one with no hassle. We made a change in the kitchen and needed more tile so after a phone call to Trudi, my extra tile is on its way. They have made a difficult job easier and I would recommend them to anybody. After going to many tile stores, I found everything I wanted at Intertile. They had some things in stock, which most tile stores don't have and I needed it right away. Not only that, but when my contractor broke some tiles while cutting them, Intertile allowed me to replace them. Charles took great lengths of time with me as I searched through the pallets, selecting each tile one at a time to get just the colors I wanted. My husband and I have visited Formation Stone twice so far. We are planning a major renovation including doing our kitchen, 3 bathrooms, our laundry room and more. We have been to most of the tile shops and kitchen design showrooms in the East Bay Area and consider Trudee to be the best of the best. Trudee has been extremely valuable in assisting to make selections, even when we brought a sample of tile from another source which we were looking to incorporate into our design. We feel Trudee is honest--tells us when we have good ideas--and subtly redirects us when we may be going astray from the current decorating vogue of the area. We plan to put our house up for sale soon, so Its really important that our house be marketable. I'm sitting in a parking lot, scrolling through Yelp for tile places after unsatisfactory experiences at five other tile shops. I desperately needed help finding tile for my backsplash. Based on the reviews I read of Formation Stone, it was going to be my last effort before heading to Lowe's. I AM SO GLAD I GAVE IT A SHOT! Angel greeted me right away and was so helpful....a literal angel. She asked me right away if I had a picture of my kitchen and what my design concept was. Then she says "You go that way, I'll go this way, and let's meet up in a minute to see what we have!" Not more than five minutes later, she emerges with a sample board and says "Does this match the colors in your floor?" It was an exact match! I couldn't believe that she pulled that from their immense supply of tile options. We selected a few other options and - best of all - I got to take the sample boards home with me that day! At another shop I was told I'd have to wait two weeks for samples to arrive! Angel emailed pricing to me and I placed the order the following Monday. Formation Stone is a welcome reprieve for weary remodelers. They have a very large selection of tile, including the options that are trending now. Their customer service is outstanding! Angel at Formation Stone is a gifted designer. My first time visiting, I was impressed with the stores layout. They have metal baskets filled with different stone samples. Much easier to flip through than those heavy displays. I brought in samples of my wall colors, cabinet and flooring in hopes of finding a granite for my counter top. Angel walked with me with my samples in hand and matched them up against several slab pieces. I never heard of leather granite. It was beautiful, the rich colors and the light from tiny fleck sparkle caught my eye. This was the one! We then looked at different tile selections. A simple large tile, matt texture that could be used both on the wall and floor was key to me. She found one that complimented my samples and the granite! Angel's warm welcoming service, a good listener and expert knowledge made this experience the best ever. I highly recommend Formation Stone. read more
