It has been a while since I've been here and loved their maple bars because they were so light and airy and the frosting was light, I can eat 3 in a row without feeling bloated. Today I ordered a dozen mostly maple bars and when I got home and ate one, it was not the same!!! It was more doughy and had dark maple frosting which was thick and too sweet like you would get at the grocery store, I had to scrape off the maple frosting. I don't know what happened, I raved about how the donuts just melted in your mouth but now it's like your average donut shop. Customer service was awesome!! read more

You wouldn't think there would be much to say about a donut shop, but man o man there is. First of all my donuts were fresh af, both the regular donuts and the delicious little holes. Secondly they were DELICIOUS! They manage to keep them light and fluffy with the perfect amount of crisp! I felt they were catering to my personal taste in donuts because they had all the usuals (maple bars, glazed, etc), but they also had a few special ones for those fancy donut eaters like Oreo and fruity pebbles. I can't even explain to you how magical those little donut holes are, for something that sounds so gross they taste really f'ing good! So let me tell you how this first trip went down. I walk into the shop and do a glance over. It's small, but clean and organized, you can see in the back (so no shady business), it smells like fried heaven, and the donuts start calling my name. The lady greets me and asks me what I want. She was super nice and patient while I slowly contemplated what was a must try for this first visit, because I can't very well try them all in one shot (I got a big but but not that big). I finish filling up a box of donuts and am feeling satisfied with my selection when I notice the glorious holes. I of course need to try those too, so I order a dozen. The very nice patient lady proceeds to tell me you get a free dozen when you buy a dozen regular donuts. Say what?! At this point I can feel my butt getting bigger, because even though I was getting these donuts for work, I knew damn well I was about to eat those holes in the car on the way! So I look a little more and notice these croissant creations, so of course I ask. They're freakin croissant sausages! I of course order one of those as well, which they heated up nicely for me. I'm ready to go at this point, salivating with anticipation of eating all the fried goodness. She rings me up and it's only like $15 dollars. EVEN BETTER! I get in the car and immediately start cramming this sausage croissant thing in my mouth. ABSOLUTELY F'ING DELICIOUS! As I'm driving away I'm instantly mad at myself for not buying two. That croissant was heavenly, soft and fluffy and chewy, slight crisp...and to top it off there's a cheesy hotdog thing in the middle! So once I'm done with that I remember I got some holes in a bag (F yeah!) I plop one in my mouth and instantly do the whole eye-roll-in-the-back-of-the-head-this-tastes-amazing-I-need-more thing. At this point I shouldn't even be driving because I'm having this out of body experience with these glorious holes! I proceed to eat have the bag then take a break and contemplate whether or not I should eat the rest. I decide to share the love with my coworkers and leave 6 in the bag (but later on ate two more). Long story short, this place is the shit and if you haven't gone there, you need to and when you do you better plan to order at least two sausage croissants and like 5 dozen glorious donut holes in addition to your box of a dozen donuts. Surely the biggest failure since Krusty Krud. From this experience and the previous six, I've learned this about Crown: 1. If you want any specific donut, you must order the day before. 2. They don't make cruellers until late morning and they don't make them well. Which leads to... 3. They don't make donuts correctly. You need more space and time for cooling so the donuts are not soggy inside or you need to adjust your cooking time/temp. A perfect crueller should be crisp on the outside, airy inside with light moisture. 4. They don't make enough donuts, early enough or fast enough. At any time of day you can get a selection of junk frosted with artificial colors but the donuts with uncolored glaze are just never on the shelf. Maybe you should do some analytics on what you sell and stop trying to push the animal-cracker donuts? 5. Only buy the food if you LOVE mini-mart food heated authentically in their microwave. 6. The coffee should be a superfund site. 7. No matter what donut you want that they don't have on the shelf, it "is coming up in 5 minutes" (though it will be soggy and underdone when it does come out.) You really need to try harder and smarter. Cook all night and close when you sell out, anything so you have better product. read more

Best donut holes I've ever had, and the regular donuts and breakfast burritos were also amazing! My only gripe is they are only open until 1pm. It's tucked behind the gas station and is minimalist inside with a few tables. The first time I came here with my hubby, we ended up with two dozen donut holes (the second dozen was free), two donuts and two breakfast burritos. And we devoured everything in less than two hours. I stopped by here on my way to work this morning and honestly wasn't expecting anything more than your average doughnut, but these tasty little morsels are so light, fluffy and delicious that I have to use all the willpower I have to not eat the whole dozen! I am a big donut fan; and for years I pretty much only went to Dunkin Donuts (you're not from around here are you?). But upon moving the lovely state of Washington and MV; I had to find a new fix. Crown Donuts has very good donuts. When I was in there was a pretty long line but they were quick to serve everyone. The families ahead of me had obviously been coming again and again - the little boys were discussing their favorite kinds and which ones they were going to get today. The donuts are fresh and sometimes still a bit warm. They will fill the donuts as you order if that's what you like. Pro tip: Their classic Maple Bars are on point, but I'd steer clear of the bacon maple donut bar, the bacon is clearly the cheap microwaveable kind and it's extreme saltiness isn't a compliment. I believe this is a great place for donuts but when it comes to customer experience its really low. Recently I made not 1, not 2 but 3 trips to get simple plain cake donuts. First time no donuts, 2nd time again no donuts but they said they will set aside some for me the next day. I went it no donuts again!! They specifically told me they set aside for me additional donuts to buy but when I got there they sold them!! Went back again and this time the last time...guess what...no donuts! We have come here for 10 years, and we have always been happy to pay more for these donuts because they were so worth it. Literally the best donuts I've ever had in my life, wow!! They are so uniquely different than any other donut shop! Why?! They are so light, soft, and fluffy is the only way to explain it! My coworker explained it best, "omg this is like bitting into a cloud" lol And it's such a great description! They have perfected donut making! I actually live way closer to legendary donuts in Covington but drive the opposite direction to crown! Legendary is okay, but like any other donut shop tbh, nothing that really makes them stand out. I am all about supporting local business during these challenging times, BUT expect to treat customers with respect. I think part of the issue is they try to find part time helpers, and they don't expect to work there more than a month and the quality of customer service suffers deeply. I can't believe how cheap and not friendly the owner is. I have gone out of my way since the day she opened to tell people that they HAVE to try her donuts and that they are the best. She was closed the entire week of my sons birthday and you get two free donuts on your birthday. My other sons bday is 13 days after my first sons and she was closed that Monday. So I go in today and ask if I can get my sons free donuts since they were closed yesterday and also my other sons donuts from the week before (when she had finally opened back up after the holiday and had five days off). First she question me that she was even closed on July 3rd and then looked at the calendar and said "well you should have come some time last week so no". My five year old starts bawling and I ended up buying him two along with my daughter (who's birthday isn't for another month so she doesn't count in this story). The best part of this story is that we have been WEEKLY customers the ENTIRE three years (?) that she's been in business. We go anywhere from 1-3 times a week!!! So it's not like I'm not a "usual" of hers. She knows me and all of my friends that I drag in with me!!!! I also bought four dozen donuts from her for TWO of my children's bday parties and after my hubby picked them up one of the times, she had forgotten a whole dozen. Then when she told me over the phone I could just come and pick them up at a later time and barely said sorry, she was annoyed when I retrieved them like she just expected that I would forget. Thank God my guests still had enough and it wasn't the end of the world. I just want people to know how cheap this lady is and that she literally told me no over probably two .03 donuts haha. So this is your basic donut shop. Plain atmosphere, basic selection of donuts, etc. They offer sausage rolls, croissant sandwiches and Breakfast burritos as well as coffee and an assortment of drinks. The donuts are really good - light and fluffy. The reason I gave them 3 stars is because of the price. They are charging premium prices for basic donuts, etc. Plain donuts are $1.09 each and $10.90 for a dozen. Chocolate iced is $1.19 each and $11.90 for a dozen. Everything else goes way up from there. My son and I got 4 donuts and a couple of drinks and paid over $8. If they are going to make it, they will probably need to rethink their prices and count more on customer volume than a high profit margin for even the simplest options. With a Legendary Doughnuts in Covington, I might as well just go there and get a broader selection if I'm paying top dollar for a doughnut (or donut). read more
