This is the best donut shop I've been to in Washington yet. Better than top pot, better than legendary. Better than them all. Melts in your mouth, sweet, but not too sweet. Ugh. I think I should go back and buy a dozen. They also have kolache's also known as sausage rolls and breakfast sandwiches. I'm super in love with this place! Too bad it's 30 minutes from. My house. We just happened to be in the area for a soccer game. The employee was so adorable, a kid from high school or something, I'm not sure he knew how to handle my loud and overbearing attitude. My husband got donuts from here and the first bite wasn't bad at all, in fact, the maple bacon was good. It was everything else he got that will stop us from coming here again. Donuts got dry and wrinkly, I'm assuming, from the oil that was used. Do you guys not change your oil often? When I pop a donut hole in mouth, I'm expecting it to be light and fluffy; was not the case. Don't even bother with the crullers if you don't plan on eating them out the door. The original owners of Crown Donuts made great donuts, light, fluffy and a great assortment. Since then I believe they have sold out to new owners. The quality went down immediately, no longer is their as large of an assortment but the donuts are heavy and cakie. I have friends that would make a long drive just to get a Crown Donuts... I used to love Crown Donut and came here all the time, but things have slowly changed for the worse. I am not sure if the ownership changed, or just management, but either way things are totally different now. I came here a few months ago and got some breakfast burritos for me and a husband. They had supposedly been heated up, but were totally cold and still partially frozen when we tried to eat them on-the-go. The cheese wasn't even melted in the slightest. At that time, the coffee had also become a self-serve coffee station with the pump, and it was not very good at all. They also only had those individual creamers that you tear open. On that occasion, we were relieved to find that the donuts were still the same; fluffy, light, and delicious. More recently, I was disappointed to discover that the donuts had also changed. They are now more dense and darker in color. They lost their special appeal of being light, fluffy, and fresh. I am sad to see the food's quality at this charming local business decline. For the record, the folks that work there are still totally nice. I just hope to see Crown Donut's glory regained soon! read more

We used to take the kids to Crown Donuts a couple of times a month. The kids loved how light and fluffy the donuts were, but recently the donuts have changed. The last couple of times we were there the donuts were greasy, heavy and the chocolate frosting was gritty and unappetizing. They have made great improvements in their payment system as well as their rewards program; however, the quality of the donuts has declined and I'd happily trade the new higher tech for a delicious donut. read more

This place has the best doughnuts in the area. Simple, cheap and delicious options. My go to is the Maple Bacon doughnuts, but they do run out of those from time to time I have noticed. They offer both cake and yeast doughnuts as well which is great as most place focus on one or the other. The only thing I don't like is how they close early, but I get it as most people think of doughnuts as an early treat not a late one. Good donuts but I would recommend that if you do place an order for work or an event, tell them you are going to pick it up at least an half hour earlier than you actually are, they last two times I ordered/paid days ahead, they were still cooking my larger order when I come to pick it up at the time I arranged and I feel they give the priority to the customers that walk in the door and make me wait for mine which, I paid for in advance days before, making my event late (which is why I order and pay ahead in the first place). That being said...I love their little hot dogs wrapped in croissant and donuts so it's worth jumping through a few hoops for me but frustrating when they make me late, give part of my order to someone at the counter just to sell more in the moment when I plan/pay ahead. read more

I've been looking at this place for over a month but because of construction and depending on how Waze takes me. I've missed the mark. If someone hadn't pointed it out I would have thought it was a hole in the wall. Totally because of the signage. This morning leaving super early, I arrived a little after 6am. All the donuts were ready and waiting. I choose a dozen, a apple fritter and a maple bacon bar, a little over $17.00. They included a cute little white nondescript bag of donut holes. One may think this was insignificant/a kind gesture. I'll take the First Lady's view "I don't Care!" Just think of all the fairies in fairyland got together and to bake all night like The Elves and the Shoemaker. The meticulous way of putting them together with flavor and visual appeal will capture you. They are cautious in placement in the box and wrap the powdered donuts carefully not to blow on the others. I'm not going back and allow the beckoning of a "HOT NOW" sign to get bad donuts. I didn't eat - I did what I call inhaled 4 donut holes, a jelly filled, a Boston Cream, and 1/2 of a black and white Oreo sprinkled donut.. Soft and delicious. They were so good, not too sweet and goes great with coffee. They stood a good time in the box without getting hard all the way till the end of lunch. I'm hiding one in my desk for the drink later. In terms of taste, very savory, moist (light, airy), and just enough glaze, sugar or icing to make a quality donut. I love donuts. And in particular, I prefer standard, classic donuts...not so much the Top Pot or Voodoo type, but more like Dunkin Donuts, which are the norm in my home town of Boston, MA. Give me simple cake donuts in powdered sugar, cinnamon, chocolate or buttercrunch, glazed raised donuts, french crullers and maple bars sans bacon. Save the salted caramel cronuts and red velvet donuts for someone else. That said, I have tried pretty much every donut place hither and yon in the Seattle area, particularly in south Seattle and the surrounding south 'burbs. I have a few that I always go back to, such as King Donut in Rainier Beach, and Lucky Donuts in Burien. But since moving to south Renton several years ago, I had yet to find a place more in the southeast side of town to get mine and my family's weekly Sunday donut fix. All that changed when I found Crown donuts after hitting 3 highly rated (on yelp) donut shops in Maple Valley, Covington and Auburn in a single afternoon! Crown donuts was the clear winner. Even though it was near closing time and their selection was depleted, their cake donut (I had the cinnamon sugar flavor) and french cruller were as close to perfection as I have ever had. The young woman who waited on me was cheerful and friendly, and the place was clean. Can't wait to come back early next Sunday morning and try more donuts! I highly recommend this place if you live anywhere near the Renton/Maple Valley area...they are right off Hwy 18 and easy to find. read more
