"Broken lines, broken strings Broken threads, broken springs…read moreBroken idols, broken heads People sleeping in broken beds Broken words never meant to be spoken Everything is broken" (Bob Dylan) When you wake up, walk into the kitchen, and see a puddle of water by your refrigerator, you know something is broken. And when you open up the freezer and discover your once frozen solid bags of fried rice and mashed cauliflower have the consistency of soggy paper towels, well now you're pretty damned sure something is really broken. So that opens up a range of possibilities -are you facing a minor repair, a major repair, or a full-scale crash, burn and replace. How do you know? Enter Discotto Appliance Repair. They were recommended by the vendor that sold us the failing refrigerator 12 years ago. I called at 10:00 and left a message with his service. Rich Discotto called me an hour or so later and said he'd be over later in the afternoon. Then he called me again and said he'd be able to swing by in a half hour. He was professional and courteous, read the model and serial numbers, went back to his vehicle to check his computer than came back to us with his verdict. He educated us with a brief history of the LG refrigerator and their compressors, The compressor was our problem, but the cost of replacing it ($1,376) didn't make sense for a 12-year-old refrigerator. His confirmation of what we suspected all along really made our decision easy. And the $133 service call was well worth that knowledge. I can not recommend him highly enough. (PS - Happy Birthday, Bob Dylan, who is 83 today)

It's been years since I've used a "coin" laundromat, but our new comforters were too large & fluffy…read morefor our washing machine at home, so off I went. I chose Laundry Works because it is closest to my home, and in an extremely safe area. What I found was an extremely clean and quiet business. It wasn't as large a space as the ones I used in my 20s, but it wasn't busy (I was told this time of year with all the kids home from school it can be very busy), and I took up 3 machines with plenty free to use for others. What's new (to me) was that instead of taking quarters and bills, there were 2 "laundry card" machines that create and load money value to your card. These cards are swiped in the machines themselves & you load them up using debit or credit cards. Warning: These machines talk and they were startlingly loud. The business was very clean. There were two areas to sit at. A machine offering laundry supplies. And a machine that help snacks. This business also offers wash and fold services (see photos for prices). There are two sizes of both washers and dryers with different prices; the dryers you prepay by 10-minute increments. The brightest highlight of my experience was Leah, the nice nice lady who works there! She was friendly and very patiently helped me get acquainted with the place and the machines. She advised me on which sized machines I should use for each comforter, and since it wasn't busy, even helped me with my comforters. After spending an hour there, I almost wish I had a reason to go back semi regularly... and maybe I'll start bringing my comforters a little more often to clean. Thank you Leah! I hope the owners of this business realize what a gem they hired to manage the place!
