Crogan's is one of my favorite places to eat in Montclair Village. It has friendly service, a great menu, and delicious drinks!

Crogan's Philly Cheese Steak
haobin g.

The Philly steak loaded with melted cheese and jalapeños is good. I think it needs more flavors. I only taste the cheese most of the time. I would like it more if it has more sauce on it. The sweet potato fries is good. I like it better than the regular French fries. Staffs are nice and serve your food in order. Many parkings available on the street.

Chicken linguine

I Like coming here. I had a Long Island ice tea requesting they use top shelf alcohol and was happy with the outcome. The crab cakes were alright. This appetizer typically is hard to please wherever you go. Often times it tastes like there is a lot of filler. Sweet potato fries were satisfying. Can't go wrong with them. I had the chicken linguine as my main entree for lunch. It could use adding more pasta. Can't cost that much more to add this to the dish. Would make for a happier customer. The dish otherwise was tasty. I am very pleased by the visual appearance of all the food and drink. You can't say that about all restaurants.

Been wanted to come and try this place. Arrived for dinner. It was easy to be seated and greeted at the entrance. Menu was straightforward. The food arrived on time. The service was friendly and attentive. The ambiance is casual with good seating. Would try again and recommend giving this place a try.

I chose to dine in this restaurant for my birthday dinner and was unfortunately met at a crossroads. My group and I were quickly seated, and the server who waited our table was very attentive and pleasant. The environment was also calm, quiet, but also scattered with patrons who I sensed were regulars. While I found the menu to be quite appealing, and I also took my waiter's recommendation to have the Philly Cheesesteak over a burger, who said it was amongst the most popular items at the whole restaurant, it was anything but fulfilling. The amount of food for the serving was more than fair, but it tragically had no flavor whatsoever. It was so bland that I opted to take the remainder home because I simply couldn't enjoy it. Likewise, unfortunately, my wife's sandwich which was a French Dip. Both of us agreed that our meals were not necessarily horrible, they were just sadly incredibly underwhelming in regard to flavor. Fortunately, not all of our items were met with this disappointment, as my uncle ordered the Crogan's Hamburger which he rated 8/10. I asked him multiple times if he was certain that his burger and fries met his satisfaction, and he couldn't have been more reassuring that was exactly the case. As a result, I rate the Crogan's a 3/5. Honestly, everything was great except for the food and given I chose this for a birthday dinner, that only added to the disappointment. My take shouldn't deter others from coming to the restaurant aside from mixed takes on their cuisine. The place has great staff, a comfy and welcoming environment, as well as decent wait times on getting customers their orders.

Francisco helped me out today. He went above and beyond with his 5-star gold service. I called in after hours asking for help and he stayed to offer me support with the kindest voice and warm energy. I've had the fish and chips which are amazing (I have high standards for this dish). French onion soup is on pointe and the clam chowder is pure comfort food. The mandarin chicken salad is refreshing too. Will come back for the yummy food and impeccable service!

Back again and again. It's the neighborhood gem. Their burger is fantastic. I brought a few friends here recently that have never been here before, and they really loved it. They keep asking to come back. That's a good sign!

Had a great time here! Service was good, we ate some cozy food, and were super satisfied after :)

Crogans is a solid go to. I've eaten there in person twice and quite a few times via Uber Eats. When in person the service was decent. I've eaten the following: Braised Short Rib: Tasty and tender but could have used more seasoning Potato Skins: Delicious Black bean nachos: Yummy - lots of high quality cheese and I add steak. Steak and salad: Super fresh and a good portion of steak. I would request the meat be done a bit more. I want to say it was medium rare. But I will order again When you order with uber they give you a free cookie. The price point is a bit high but all the ingredients are high quality I like that the items come in containers that can be composted.

Cute pub and restaurant. Nestled in Montclair and close to many walkable establishments. Seated quickly inside. Arrangements for food is regular fare for pub food. We ordered: fish & chips, a burger with sweet potato fries, French onion soup and calamari (not pictured). Overall, Food came out hot and tasty, and welcoming atmosphere for quick bite and friendly banter amongst comrades. Would come back if in the area.

Mike, me, and Bob: 41 years in Montclair. I really was 21 when I enjoyed my first draft Guineas here!!!

Best restaurant in Montclair, Oakland hands down! And the prime rib is THE ABSOLUTE best!!!! Thank you Mike for the 41 years of joy your food, music, and ambience has brought to our family.

On a chilly day like today, this dish was exactly what I was craving. The seafood was fresh and full of flavor. The warm, comforting broth was so good that I'm still thinking about it even now. From the moment we arrived until we left, every staff member was friendly, welcoming, and attentive. It was an excellent meal and a wonderful dining experience. I had a great time and would happily come back again.

I'm a hospitality specialist that works in SFO and some customers of mine recommended this place. I…read moregoogled them, took one look at the cioppino and it was official: I KNEW what I wanted for my birthday. I talked about going to this place for weeks. Finally the day was upon us. I had called ahead to check on the foot traffic and to determine the best time to get there. As they open at 11:30, after speaking with someone over the phone the week before, my wife and I determined the best time to get there was 12:30pm, they don't take reservations for parties of 2. We arrived, saw they already had a wait but were on the list by 12:30pm. We were told the wait would be 30 minutes. No problem. We received the buzzer from them and walked around the block and ended up two restaurants down the street around 12:50pm. At 1:09pm, the buzzer still hadn't gone off and my wife, who went in initially to put us on the list, went back in to check on the status of our table. At the host stand, she heard the manager tell a woman who clearly didn't have a reservation she would be sat in 3 minutes. After hearing that, my wife showed the manager the buzzer we had been given and asked, "So how much longer for us?" The manager replied "It may be another 10 minutes." We then watched them scramble to clear a table and immediately give the table to the woman who had arrived after us. Upon this disappointment we decided to leave because if they can't get something simple like seating guests respectfully right, I can only imagine what else they'll screw up. People don't remember what you do... They remember how you made them feel. As a hospitality professional, not only was this experience totally unavoidable but it left me feeling disrespected and not valued - as a customer; as a person. In being honest, I have to mention that, oddly enough, as I looked around during this disappointment I noticed that everyone seated and being rapidly seated were of one particular ethnic group. Everyone waiting was part of various minority groups which made this incident even more sickening - reinforcing our decision to not only choose to spend our money somewhere else on that day, but to never spend any money there... EVER. I was extremely excited to visit this place and to be shown this kind of treatment further proves that there are still some places that don't want minority dollars so much they simply don't care how they treat you. And unfortunately for them, I'm certainly sharing this experience with as many visitors to the city as I can letting them know "There a MANY fine places to eat in the city... but I'll tell you where NOT to go - unless you feel like being treated like a second-class citizen." Please check in with your personal values before choosing to support this place. Sotto Mare... you all really need to invest in some cultural sensitivity training. It's 2026. Highly disappointed.

While a few of the dishes we had heard about were gone from the menu (Mina specialties) they had a solid listing of staples and I understand they're working on formally relaunching the restaurant with a bunch of new dishes. The vibe is great (5Star) - good seating with each table having something fun to look at, be it the bar or the ocean, and the music was groovy for lack of a better word. Food was 4 stars but the steak, tipped me back into 5 star category. We had the spicy tuna roll which appeased our sushi desire, the Caesar salad for some greens, and the Delmonico Ribeye with carrots. The steak was phenomenal and I paired it with a Vesper Martini which was mixed expertly. Looking forward to coming back and seeing what the new owners do on the relaunch.

A search on this website resulted in Marica having it on their menu. He booked a 7:30 PM reservation for two. We arrived early. What started out as a not too pleasant experience for us was the attitude of the guy who greeted us when we entered the restaurant. Attitude bordered on rudeness (3 star). We somewhat tolerated it, not knowing what to expect next. The restaurant was filled with diners, and the only available seating was not far from the front door. Oh, the chill was in the air, and my not wearing a sweater and/or light jacket to stay warm had me shivering. I had to brave the element (LOL). Since there was no Chilean sea bass on their daily special menu, it took a little longer for my companion and I to peruse the menu, and decide what entrees we were willing to have. Usually I would order an Arnold Palmer as a beverage; however, this time I decided to be adventurous - reisling peach spritz please - to whet my appetite. My date had the Temescal pilsner. Eats: Grilled salmon arange ginger saffron blanc beurre, roasted potatoes and vegetables. Korean short ribs, honey garlic gochujang marinade, mashed potatoes and vegetables. Our meals were on point and bomb-diggity delicious. The arange ginger saffron was perfect with the carrot. It reminded me of glazed carrots. The green beans were fresh and not overcooked. Ooh, the Korean pork ribs were tender and that sauce was sweet and had a subtle kick of spiciness. (Definitely a perfect complement for the pork ribs.) I have to admit the chef knew how to burn. Food tasted so good that figuratively speaking y'all gotta slap the cook and his mama. Ambiance: Comfy and casual. Despite the dining area is small, still it is a great restaurant for dining on a Friday evening. From my perspective and vivid imagination with the indoor lighting, it exuded a romantic atmosphere. Only in my mind I can hear soft jazz in the background. What convinced me to give Marica a 5 star rating? It was none other than Enriqueta, our waitress. She was pleasant, attentive and so accommodating. The chef lost our order ticket; thus, the wait time for our meal took a bit longer than we anticipated. She came to the rescue and comped us with dessert - chocolate souffle with homemade vanilla ice cream. It certainly was a gesture of kindness to have my date and me smiling from ear to ear. Return visit? Yes, mos def...not the rapper for Chilean sea bass. Enriqueta said I can always call to find out what their daily special is.

For the prices on this menu, I would expect service to be a lot better. We waited in line to be sat (no waiting list, just an old school line) and it took only 10 minutes or so to be sat but it was very bizarre, we were a party of 2 ready to be sat & she took the couple behind us and sat them first. No particular reasoning given. The host seemed to really not care about much. From there, service was odd. Our server didn't introduce herself and just asked us what we wanted. Again, not a necessity but you would think for somewhere you're paying $30+ per plate, service would be a bit better. An oyster holder was delivered to our table after we had already finished oysters. Glass was broken near our table and hastily swept up. Bussers were dropping silverware right next to our table. Again, just wasn't great ambiance or service. The food is good but there are other good restaurants in San Francisco. I would really only come here again with low service expectations.
