Based on Internet reviews here and elsewhere and a thorough phone conversation I had with a lady named Jan, I felt that if this company had the availability, I would've used their services. I needed pest control services to handle the removal of 3 - 6 squirrels which were eating their way into an apartment building. Jan explained that during these colder seasons animals would do anything to stay warm, including eating their way into a warmer area. All these services do it the same way as far as charging; estimate is $135. Once they figure out their course of action, removal of each animal is flat $40. Once an estimate is taken and they find the entry areas, they set-up traps. On the entries they also set-up alert devices which indicate to them if the entry is in use by the vermin. Till the pests are caught, they will send someone out to check the traps daily. (Some services will allow you to check their traps, if you want to dispose of the animals yourself; some find this as a cheaper option.) They only work on weekdays, so alert devices and traps are reset on Friday's and Monday's. If repair service or closing of an entry way (i.e. roof, walls, exhaust fan) is needed they can do the patch work or give you instructions so that you can hire someone else to accomplish. Amongst about six places I called today, Jan was the most customer service friendly and able to explain the procedures and possible costs, completely. Once she was done I was ready to sign up for service. But, she was terribly busy and her first opening was too long away for me to wait for. Valpo location - When we called for a quote to remove a bird from our dryer vent, we were quoted $90 to come out and they couldn't provide total cost until they come out and see what is going on. Fair enough. When they arrived, they opened the dryer vent cover and one bird flew out. They removed some debris and put on a plastic covering to prevent future entry of birds. After about 10 mins to complete the job, the final charge was an additional whopping $798 ($299 for bird removal and $499 to install two covers). They took off the $90 inspection fee. And after negotiating the final charge was $579. Definitely overpriced compared to competitors. Other quotes from my neighbors were $300 -400. read more

I reached out to Critter Control to discuss their offered services and pricing, but was surprised by how rude the representative was. When I asked about their offer, he abruptly said, "If you're looking for a cheap company, go find a cheap company." That level of disrespect is unacceptable from any business, let alone one that claims to be professional. Had initially hired Rose Pest Control to deal with an inside rodent issue. They poked around a bit, left a few traps and disappeared, never having even looked around the exterior of the building for an entry point. We called in Critter Control for a second opinion and an estimate and Taran came out promptly. He carefully examined the exterior of the building and located the entry point under a set of stairs in a very hidden location. Taran has been extremely knowledgeable, professional and sensitive to our situation, and the work is set to begin today (after a few days of waiting due to a weekend which delayed scheduling). I have high hopes that they will catch the critter and protect the property from any future incidences, as we are contracting for monthly service moving forward. read more

Critter Control did a mediocre job of combating my rat problem. However they left a mess in my crawl space, inadequate work, and an incomplete job. The Portland Or based critter control was a franchise that went out of business. The new company store wouldn't stand behind their work. They came out and told me they would send an estimate to clean up the space, which never happened. I contacted their main office in Marietta, Georgia and never heard back. I spent $13,000 to have my crawl space redone. It's a mess and the work has not been completed. That was 3-4 years ago. They can kill rats and rodents, but that's it!! Don't trust them for a thorough and complete redo of any space. read more

I'm going to try and be as comprehensive in this review as possible and at the time of writing (2/2/25), the tech will need to return in the spring to finish the job due to the protected status of bats, they can't remove them. To start, over the past Christmas I was hearing scratching coming from my house attic. I called a different pest control company out thinking I had mice and I was told it was more likely bats and they couldn't help with bats, I'd need to find another company. Knowing bats are protected and there's little that can be done in the winter until it leaves on its own in the spring, I tried reaching out to a few companies to get a plan together so we could act right away in the spring. Fast forward to the week before writing this first part of the review, weather warms up and I hear whatever is up in the attic being very active. I decide to reach out to critter control and to my surprise I get a call back in about 15 minutes. I describe what's going on and they schedule someone to come out as soon as is convenient for me, which was the next day. Brad was the person that came out. He took the time to listen to what I had to say and even took a video of some of the sounds I was hearing, before heading up to the attic to look around. Almost immediately he identified mouse tunnels in my insulation and pointed out bat guano. Thankfully there wasn't much. He also walked the perimeter of my house to gather the proper scope of what would be needed. He gets a quote together and we sit down to discuss what would be needed. This is going to be the first bit that will probably be very important for a lot of people. Price. You can find a place to get rid of an animal for you for a fairly low rate, but that's all they do. Critter control prices out all the prevention and remediation efforts and that comes with a price tag. Break down the cost of materials and labor that needed for all the prevention and remediation efforts and the price starts to make a lot more sense. Just be prepared it can easily be thousands of dollars. So know that going in. Next, communication. This was a bit rocky. After signing the agreement and paying the down payment, I was told I would be contacted that night for scheduling a tech to be out to identify points of entry that the bat uses and to seal up everything else. No one called me that night. So I reached out to Brad the next day to inform him, he made some calls and I got a call back from the district manager, Frank, shortly after. Frank told me I was scheduled for Saturday morning to have a tech out. Brad contacted me to make sure I heard something back. Fast forward to Saturday and the time the tech was supposed to arrive comes and goes. So I call and text both Frank and Brad and get a response about an hour later saying they're going to find out what's going on. I hear nothing for the next two hours, my frustration is growing. I get a call from the tech that was assigned this job, this is where everything turns around. Antonio, the tech, tells me he was working a job the previous night, it ran long and had to finish up the morning of my appointment and it seems no one notified me of this change of schedule. After a pleasent conversation with Antonio, he said he would like to stop by to scope out my house and see everything that would need to be done and if it works for me come back the next day (Sunday) to do the job. The amount of professionalism on display from Antonio, he took the time to carefully look around my house and attic, take pictures of what he saw, and the plan for what he would be doing. He answered all of my questions and it was overall an outstanding interaction. My advice to critter control is to work on improving communication with the end customer, I felt like I was really having to track down and drive what was going on. Anyone looking to use critter control's services, you may have some communication hurdles to navigate, but once you get the contact for the tech it should no longer be an issue. Services paid for. To say Antonio went over my house with a fine tooth comb would be an understatement. No only did he find the point of entry, to be sealed later. He found and sealed a lot of other vulnerable areas and areas where it looked like animals have tried to get in. The first portion of my service has finished today, so it's too early to tell how successful the prevention will be, but I feel confident Antonio left no stone unturned. TL;DR: Initially very responsive, quote will probably be on the higher end especially if a lot of remediation is needed, felt like I had to chase communication and updates until I got in touch with the tech, very impressed with initial quality and thoroughness of the work which (to me) justifies the higher price tag. read more

IF I COULD GIVE 0 STARS I WOULD! A COMPLETE SCAM! I was told in November to pay the initial fee of $400+ that I could pause my membership during colder months and restart my package for the $99/month when I was ready for service again. Now I'm being told I have to pay $389 and then $79/month because my package was "cancelled." Not to mention district manager Francisco Cibrian - District Manager- Critter Control Wildlife Inc.- Chicago Metropolitan Area was chuckling while we were on the phone as I expressed my frustrations regarding the issue. He also ended the call sarcastically with "be blessed." Nowhere did I curse at or disrespect him, yet he didn't take this issue seriously. Shameful! Mind you, I have been trying to schedule a service treatment for THREE days. I had to call the company many times to get through, and escalate the call ALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. This is insane! By the way, my treatment was for snakes which hibernate in the winter, so please tell me why I would pay $589 for ONE SNAKE TREATMENT before snow, just to REPAY AGAIN in the Spring?! read more

They don't trap woodpeckers. I used Ace Animal Control. He's a trapper and in 3 days We caught the damaging woodpecker.

We hired them to come out last fall to remove some squirrels from our attic, and clean up after them. We received a quote and initially was charged for correct amount. Fast forward months later, we receive a call saying we didn't pay almost $400. We looked through our records and show them the quote and the credit card transactions showing that yes, we paid in full. They agreed we paid in full and would update their records. Fast forward a couple of week we get a random charge for the money off our credit card. Call again, they apologize, reverse the charges and thought it would be good. Fast forward just a few more days, and they charged the card again. We paid in full and were originally satisfied with the work, but continuing to charge our credit card without our permission for work that they admit we already paid for is either a scam or incompetence. Needless to say we will now be disputing the charge with our credit card company, and I warn people to stay away. read more

I called the company on Thursday because it sounded like we had a problem raccoon on our roof. The technician called me Thursday afternoon to discuss and what kind of ladder would be needed. I was told they would be here on Friday between 2-4pm. At 4:00pm I hadn't heard from the technician. When I finally got through to him, he initially said I never returned his call. I told him we spoke yesterday, then he proceeded to tell me he didn't have the right ladder. Why couldn't he have called to tell me that instead of me sitting around for 2 hours and ONLY finding out when I called him. I called the company and was told a manager would call me shortly and still sitting here waiting for a call. Do not recommend this company. I should have read the reviews beforehand. read more

While I was not happy initially, I will say every person I had to deal with from this company was very nice and respectful. A sales manager ultimately reached out to me and apologized for the experience and explained the situation. I understand things happen and some situations have less than ideal outcomes. I was offered a significant discount from my original price and am very grateful for that. They also had another very nice and charismatic technician come out promptly and finish the job. I'm satisfied with the work completed and have no complains on that front. As I originally said, their process at least seems thorough. Ultimately the company did right and the job was completed. I was just hoping anything regarding wildlife would have been met with a bit more urgency initially. read more

In May, I had a mouse problem in my house. It was very important to us that the issue be resolved without killing the mice if possible. We worked with Brad at Critter Control West Chicago (who was delightful, informative, and professional) and scheduled them to come out. We did not opt for the additional bait boxes, which cost $1000, and the monthly service for them to check the traps, which was about $75/month. I didn't realize that they were not going to actually remove the mice during the service. Instead, the mouse nest ended up trapped inside, and my husband and I spent the next six weeks trapping and releasing the mice we caught. When I reached out about this, I was told that the activity would die down "eventually." We had roughly four weeks without any signs of mice, and this morning I found another one in our kitchen. This mouse was both very young and a different color, and I can't help but feel our money was wasted as we're faced with another infestation two and half months after they sealed our home. The people were very nice to work with, but there are communication issues, so be VERY clear on your expectations and ask questions. If it had just been the first nest I called for, I would have left four stars and just spoken of the misaligned expectations. But with another batch of mice not even three months later? Honestly, if I could find a way to reach out to customer service, I'd ask for my service to refunded so I can pay someone else. read more

Called for a free inspection and quote for a squirrel problem. Inspector Brad shows up and quotes me $700. For 2 traps. I mentioned it was too high and last time we used a company that charged $150. Brad got mad, said, "good luck, good luck" and walked away into his truck. Highly recommend other companies for professionalism and respect. Called the village and they're doing it for $150. This company is completely unethical. I came home one day in July to realize an animal was digging under my back steps. I called Critter Control and they sent someone out to determine the issue. The guy told me he thought it was a skunk and I should install a rat wall. He set traps and charged me $674 for a deposit. After a week nothing was caught so I told the salesman I did not want to move forward and I wanted a refund. They only refunded me $75. In (August) put bunny repellent in the hole and filled it in with mulch. I haven't had an issue since. I believe this company took advantage of the fact that I am a single woman and used scare tactics. I feel that I wasted $600 I could have used on my kids as I was scared that was my only option. read more

They came to remove birds from a vent in our condo. The first time they came they serviced the wrong vent. They returned the next day, removed some of the nest, left the babies in there and sealed it up. OMFG!!! The mayhem that's going on in and around my house is insane right now!!! read more

I rarely leave reviews for businesses, however, my experience with Critter Control was absolutely awful. We had a run in with a bat in our basement and had called Critter Control to come out and give us a quote to "bat proof" our home. The quote was outrageously priced, but with Critter Control being the only extermination business in the area that dealt with bats, we were stuck paying this price. Thankfully, our salesman was able to help us finance our services...or so we thought. Our home was "bat-proofed" in January, and our salesman said we should be expecting our first financed bill in March. March came, and we received a bill in the mail for the entire price of the service. I had contacted our salesman to see if there was a mistake and he assured us that the financed bill would be coming, so we could just ignore that bill. We did as he said. April rolled around, and we received another bill, for the full price, as well as a late charge! I contacted our salesman AGAIN and again he told us to ignore it. By the end of April, I had then received a call from their collections department, wondering why we weren't paying our bill. I contacted our sales person again, and he said he would handle it with the office and would reach back out the following day with an update. I did not hear back from him the following day...I had to reach out the next week to ask for an update. At that point, our salesman said it was out of his hands and he couldn't do anything about it. I got in touch with the collections department, and they said that the salesman we were working with never sent over the signed document stating that we wanted financing and therefore we may need to pay full price out of pocket. This phone call was WEEKS before our wedding (that we were paying for ourselves) and I told them that if they were unable to finance it, that I would be contacting a lawyer. Thankfully, they were able to re-process our loan paperwork and we were able to finance the payment amount. I had asked for some sort of reparations as this took MONTHS to get squared away, but nothing came of it. I thought this would be the end of the fiasco, but sadly...I was mistaken. In January when we first had our services, our original salesman said that someone would be out at the end of May to remove the bat vents they had placed in our home. May came and went with no communications...June came and went with no communication...the beginning of July came and went with no communication...and AGAIN, I had to reach out to Critter Control to see what the deal was. A sales representative stated that someone was scheduled to come out the following week to take the vents out and also tried to put me in touch with someone from customer service. The customer service representative called, I had missed the initial phone call. I called back promptly and left a voicemail, which was NEVER returned. This was over a week ago. Again, I usually don't write reviews and I tried to resolve the issue without taking to Yelp, but after not getting a call back from the service representative, it is clear to me that the communication and professionalism of this company is completely lacking. Absolutely the most awful company I have ever had to deal with. I will NEVER use Critter Control again and/or refer this company to anyone. read more

Critter Control sent someone out to review our situation quickly, but their quote was so high, we were shocked. They wanted to charge us several thousand $ to 'seal the house' and a monthly fee to provide rodent traps. There was no way we were going to pay $3,298 to 'seal the house' when they were not guaranteeing their work unless we paid an additional $299 for them to set bait traps outside and $79/month to maintain the traps. They were a little vague as to how frequently they would service the traps (having dead mice in a trap for 3-4 weeks was not something we wanted). We decided we would not hire this company. Extremely rude and unprofessional service. The guy that showed up (Streamwood, Illinois) to remove a trapped baby opossum was a complete idiot. When asked if 1 800 Critter was hired by our homeowners association, his response was "stop harassing me and let me do my job". In addition to this guy's attitude, he threw the trapped opossum into the bed of his truck. This company extensively advertises on how humane they are to wild animals. Maybe I'm being premature in writing this, but I can always change it, right? I think I had these guys in a couple years ago when we had mice. The tech placed baits behind the fridge/range, in various areas in the laundry room, up in the attic and in the garage. My husband found the hole in the garage and sealed it up. I can honestly say I have seen no evidence of mice in the house since that time. Since they did so well, I called them back for my squirrel problem. The tech, Josh, really knows his vermin! He checked out the house, looked for possible areas of entrance, climbed the roof, set two humane traps in front of the attic fan, which is the probable point of entry. As he was walking around from the back yard, I opened up my bedroom window and told him exactly where I was hearing the squirrels, which was in my daughter's room. So, here we are talking squirrel and who should come scampering across my neighbor's roof and up the tree next to our house? Mom squirrel stops at the top of the branch and looks at us, and we both knew damn well where she was heading! After Josh left, I checked the traps and our little friend was caught. I felt badly that she would be stuck in the trap all night long but that's what you get when you chew through my studs and drywall. This morning there were 2 squirrels caught ($40 each) and Josh left the traps for one more night before he places a mesh cap over the attic fan. This service doesn't come cheap...$135 for the visit, $150 to cap off the fan, and $40 per little beast. The cap is nailed? bolted? onto the roof and caulked-it's guaranteed for three years. Now, if we can only get our neighbor to stop feeding the pigeons, squirrels, chipmunks, mice, oppossum and raccoons, we might have a chance. UPDATE...the temporary screen put over the fan on Friday was taken down and the permanent, heavy duty mesh was nailed on. Heard no more munching squirrels from Friday onward. I think we succeeded, until they find another way in. I was a bit upset to find out that the squirrels are euthanized. I naively thought they'd be released at the nearby forest preserve (what was I thinking?) but as the tech explained, they've stored their food here; if you take them out of their area, they're going to starve. Oh well. Guess I'm going to hell. read more

DO NOT USE CRITTER CONTROL CHICAGO. Honestly...please save yourself the inconvenience of the worst and rudest service I have ever experienced in a while. Use any other animal trapping/remediation service but this one. Maybe it's cheap and that's why the townhome association I live in uses them...but like they say, you get what you pay for. The property manager put me in touch with this service and finally got someone to come out on April 20th. After the guy was done with inspection, he said he would give info to his boss and then get back to property manager. I didn't hear any update for a while and neither did the property manager. I actually called and left messages with the guy that came out but no one returned my call or was able to update with me the status until a week later. Anyways, I looked up the the main number online and spoke to a Jan Ghore, who ended up being rude, as I was checking the status and they said they just sent a response to the property manager yesterday April 27th. I wondered and asked what took them so long. I'm sure it shouldn't take that long to give an assessment after they guy already came out one week ago (bat problems have to be dealt with in a timely manner especially before the female starts having babies). She didn't apologize or anything. She said your property manager should have all that info. I told her that my property manager won't have the answer as to why it took you so long to respond back. She tried to shut me up and said it doesn't matter and they can't do the job anyways and still said your property manager should have all the info again and talk to her. That was rude. She quickly tried to hang up on me but I was able to squeeze in one last comment that they will be getting horrible review from me all over the internet. I guess horrible companies don't want to admit fault and tried to shut people up. Sad. I could've had other bat remediation or roofers come out during that time. So that was ridiculous that they didn't respond for a week. Also, I forgot to mention, when I spoke to the guy before he came out, he didn't even know the months when the bats start roosting or when the females start nursing because they could trap the young inside and then I have to deal with a bigger problem like dead carcasses and maggots, etc. He said he would ask his boss and get back to me. This place has a cute catchy name but is complete garbage under the hood. These guys act like they are taking drugs. The guys that come barely do anything and never resolve the problems for me. I had them out through my association 3-4 times and was left there for 2 months with no follow-up after setting a trap. I realize animals are unpredictable and act differently at different seasons but I am talking about basic communication. If you try to get a hold of anyone it's a pain...just like I tried many times to get them off their ass after setting the traps. Then you get a phone all from a stone head that murmurs garbage and doesn't help at all. They always leave with the problems still there. When I say leave with problems still there's it means after they close out the ticket! I don't know how many times I get a letter in the mail from my association with these guys still on the job, still a trap in my attic or they just finalize the ticket without telling me first so I have to keep telling my association to reopen them!! Nothing gets resolved in my experience with them. Animals just keep coming back year around and so because of their lack of doing a good job we have animals in the attic year around. That's when I started to tell my association I want nothing to do with this service in the future and to get another company. They never patch the real problem as in fix holes and tell me they can't find holes which I know is BS because another place came and said we clearly have openings that have been there that you can see completely through to the outside! Sum coming into ms attic! Critter control never finds any of that so you are every time left with one visit and poof the guy is nowhere to be seen for months. No follow up calls. And it is not my job to be checking the traps for you after beings set! That is why you are hired..to take care of this and physically come check yourself in at least a bi-weekly period! And one reviewer mentions the set electronic alerts and bust you daily. That is so far from the truth. Try bi-monthly if lucky that they physically come to check on a trap! read more

STAY AWAY!!! This very unprofessional company only cares about taking your money. First of all it's extremely difficult to get a hold of the technician. You can't call directly, the only thing you can do is leave a message for him to call you. If you miss his call you can't call back. Need to leave a message with the office again asking him to call you. Frustrating, but this isn't the problem. When the guy finally came to investigate scratching we've heard above the ceiling, he inspected the house from the outside, failed to find any entry points made by the critters and was ready to leave, charging us $150 for the visit - FOR NOTHING! Luckily we've noticed him and after some discussion he offered to put poison in the attic for an ADDITIONAL $50. The critters were not in the attic area, but we wanted to at least do something, so we agreed. After he left we've done some research and realized that this was a bad idea. Not only is it undesirable to have poison inside the house, if a critter dies because of it, it would die inside with all the nasty consequences of that. The correct and humane thing would be to install a trap, capture the critter and preferably find where it got inside the house in the first place. The technician should have offered us this option, but he failed to do so. We've contacted the technician again (this took several attempts) and he informed us that he can't remove the poison he already placed in the attic. An additional visit to install a trap would cost another $150 + the cost of the trap. And even if we install the trap, he would need to return and check it - and we would have to pay for each additional visit. THIS IS RIDICULOUS! ! DO NOT do business with this company. There are other companies in the area which install traps, check them and seal the entry points all for a smaller charge than what these guys charge for doing nothing. read more

Poor customer service in my opinion. I had to call the answering service back several times before I ever was allowed to talk to a real Critter Control employee. Then, when trying to set a time for the guy to come out, I got the run-around and a couple "I'll have call you back" lines without ever getting called back.
