Tl;dr They gave a detailed quote but didn't follow it. Had to be called out to Nicor Gas so they would do the work as expected. They will try to get away with cutting corners. My experience with Green Attic Insulation was a months long headache since the initial install. I was quoted for air sealing the attic, attic insulation, and rim joist spray foam. The quote was very detailed with specific line items for every part. The rebates were also a line item. The first concern was the salesman said I qualify for the Nicor Gas attic insulation rebate, and during this project I found out that I was never eligible because the R-value of the existing insulation was too high. They arrived on the project day and immediately got started. Since they were insulating the rim joist with spray foam they recommended leaving the house during the install to avoid the gasses from the foam curing since I have a dog. I was told by the crew that they would call when they were done (they don't give me their number). So I make sure they have what they need and left at 10am. 5pm passes... 6pm passes... Finally at 8pm I head home because they have to be done by now. Obviously their office is closed this late but I leave messages and such that I was never told it was okay to come back or anything. I inspect the foam and there is plenty of overspray on the finished wood trim, walls, and a little on the carpet. Funny part is that the overspray is on easy to reach sections while the harder/tighter sections were almost perfect. Some fiberglass batt fragments could be seen in the foam even though batt removal and disposal was a line item on the quote and this reduces the insulation of the foam. I ask for the overspray to be removed since I don't want to damage paint while trying to remove it myself. I also ask for pictures of the work in the attic and the results of the pre- and post- door blower test required for the air sealing rebate. Green Attic Insulation took months to actually fulfill the quoted line items. Sent pictures from the original project day months later after Nicor quality control looked at their work and put pressure on them to follow their own quote. Never sent the door blower results. Never even submitted the rebate to Nicor despite it being a line item. The rebate would make them quantity the effectiveness of the air sealing but since they never submitted a rebate and won't show the results there's no way to know how well they did. Nicor found that Green Attic hadn't blown enough insulation into the attic according to the quote's line item but they weren't going to fix that without being called out. read more

My experience with Green Attic in Chicago was atrocious! Not only did they scratch the wood floors and gouge the walls, the house was uninhabitable - literally. There was so much insulation everywhere we could have made snow angels. Their attempt to keep things cleans was laughable. The plastic sheeting they put down was minimal. We had insulation in the sheets, on top of picture frames, and in every crevice in the upstairs. While they did a minimal job vacuuming, it required me to vacuum, and three floor washes, one washing of the baseboards and walls, and 3 loads of laundry later, we are almost done with the clean up. To top it off, when I called to speak to they, the response was to thank me for taking the time to provide my feedback. There was no accountability or apology. Alex and Carlos were very professional. They arrived in a timely manner and immediately explained the scope of work to me. Alex was patient and answered all of my questions. My home usually has a five degree difference between each floor. With heat rising, we were miserable in our bedrooms during the day and night. Last night was the first time the temperature in my home didn't drop ten degrees overnight. It only changed four degrees mostly because I'm still figuring out this new smart thermostat thing. AND the temperature on the main floor and in our bedrooms was only a two degree difference. Do NOT let Green Attic perform work on your roof! You've been warned. Green Attic botched the installation of two new exhaust vents through our roof, and has since completely ghosted us, refusing to fix or even acknowledge their poor craftsmanship. A company that can't stand behind their own work will not perform quality work on your home. They chipped, cracked, and mangled our new shingles, and installed the vents completely improperly now I have to hire another roofer, and buy shingles to replace my cracked roof, or risk water damage over the next few years. I requested an energy audit with a view to sealing up my Chicago bungalow. I received a call back quite quickly with a cost. Upon receiving the quote I noticed a line item that the cost didn't include any thermal images or a written report as to the findings. When I inquired about that I was told it would be an extra $300(ish) for me to actually receive the results of the test that I would have paid $250 (I think) for. Pretty ridiculous. I get paying for the service - but then having to pay extra for the results of that service is needless nickel-and -diming. And it cost them my business. I recently had my attic insulated/ blown in, by Green Attic. They sent a two man crew ( Romulo and Jose) both were very friendly and professional. I was informed of the process and they answered any questions I had. The installers, both, were very conscious of my home and did a prewalk of my cieling (took pictures) of my existing nail pops and settlement cracks before starting. Tarped,vacuumed and removed any debris. Quality job. And with the current weather added value/ lower heating bills!!! THEY HAVE TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! They did a big job on my house. Two attics and one with a lot of mold. One year later there's noticeable leak stains in the ceiling. We got a roof guy to come see what the problem was. He said that green attic blocked up all the soffit vents on the outside of the attic with insulation and plastic bags. This led to condensation to accumulate causing nails to rust and pop out, leading to the leakage spots on the ceiling. I've reached out to Green Attic multiple times and they are MIA. Also, they ended up ruining one of the bathtub jets because their insulation ran down an opening in the attic which filled the space where the bath tub jet engine sits. Edit: They finally sent their guy Julio who came and was aggressive and didn't resolve our concerns. He spoke fast and loud and wasn't nice at all. He basically wasn't taking any accountability for the new problems we're having since their work and said it's the roofers fault. We're getting a 3rd party legitimate roofer to come and check out these soffits, and with their guidance we're considering a lawyer. I looked on Yelp and it seems this is their O.M. I got three quotes, all were close in price, but Green Attic included a more thorough approach, and more detail. (Like sealing around all conduits and pipes with fireproof sealant, something others said not necessary.) The crew was on time, and did a good job protecting the house from damage or bits of insulation. (impossible to be perfect, but they were conscientious, and cleaned well afterward). They removed odd items and debris that were in the attic, ensuring that there would be minimal hidden hazards for any future attic worker. They even discovered an additional issue around the fireplace that they addressed without charging extra. It looked great when they were done. Do not use Green Attic for the following reasons: They didn't complete the attic project and departed without installing the attic door. Then they sent a revised invoice with $800 dollars of bogus charges. I refused to pay so they put a lien on my house and we went to court. Thankfully our judge was a wiz at math and found the $800 of bogus fees on my invoice. Our judge also caught the owner lying several times! The management's response to the BBB complaint was pathetic deflection. They apologize for "any inconvenience." They disregarded the communication failure and instead focused on the unsafe conditions on the instillation days (despite no complaints from me about that--obviously I want people to be safe). No acknowledgement of the no call/no show on an objectively good weather day either. Management claims they are "happy to investigate further" even though they've not reached out again since I contacted them. Loose-fill is still coming into a room a month on (this is documented). They point to their "terms and conditions" in re: credit card fees. Dumitru, YOU MAKE THE POLICY. It didn't fall from the sky. I was merely pointing out a logically-flawed practice. As noted in the BBB complaint, I didn't ask for ANYTHING other than communication and for the job to be finished. As far as I'm concerned, the job IS finished because I'd rather deal with the problem myself than expect this company to actually address the issue in a timely and professional manner. I feel bad for the employees that have to deal with management who so clearly can't accept responsibility for their own failures. Here's an example of how to communicate--look how simple it is (and note that a message like this should have happened a month ago): "We're sorry for the communication breakdown that caused a massive delay and weeks of doubt whether the project would actually be finished. Our internal communications and project organization clearly need attention and we will do our best to augment these procedures so that other customers don't have to deal with this in the future." "We charge a credit card fee because we do not want to pay the processing fee and instead shift that cost to the consumer for the privilege of paying us." "We will send a crew to appropriately seal-off and clean the loose-fill leaking into the living space." Management, feel free to use any/all of that example text in the future. This is the most negligent contractor I've dealt with in my life. They suggested to not be home for our attic insulation since we have a newborn at home which I appreciated. They seemed careful and thoughtful in the sales process which is why I ended up picking them for our project. However, when it came time for the job they were reckless with security and safety. Before the job I sent multiple notes via text and email, and had a phone call asking them to contact me at the end of each day so I could set the alarm and lock the doors remotely. Day one they didn't do this. I sent another ask to please be mindful of this so I could keep our home secure. Day 2 they did not do this again, and ended up leaving our front door wide open which triggered a burglar alarm at 2am requiring us to deal with the security company and police throughout the night. Afterwards it took days for anyone to reply. They lacked empathy or ownership for how negligent their team was. I would not recommend working with these people. Mistakes happen, but the response to these mistakes was almost as bad as their dangerous actions themselves. read more

Late in 2023, after a contractor found soft/sagging places on our roof, we had our attic professionally inspected and lots of mold was found. The inspector also recommended having the insulation increased from the builder's R-30 to at least R-49. After having much of our roof plywood decking replaced (which removed the ventilation baffles that had been stapled to the plywood), we knew the baffles would also need to be replaced. So, we had Green Attic reinsulate our 40-year-old attic in early December, 2024 with new cellulose insulation rated at R-60, on a recommendation from a neighbor. They also installed new baffles in every rafter bay and air sealed the entire attic floor (2nd floor ceiling drywall). Our estimator was Frank, and he had quickly provided a reasonable estimate with complete details on what would be done. He also made several return trips to discuss additional questions we had, and tried to help resolve some post-install follow-ups. Edgar's crew arrived on time on day 1 and they worked hard to remove all of the existing insulation, install and seal all of the baffles, and perform air sealing of all penetrations/joints of the drywall. On day 2, they finished any remaining day 1 tasks and then blew-in all of the new insulation. We had transition walls and a sloped bedroom ceiling in our attic that required use of fine netting to hold the cellulose in place. They also properly insulated the attic hatch and did a blower door test that allowed us to claim the $900 Nicor rebate (pre-applied to the estimate). This was a somewhat messy job, but Edgar's crew cleaned up nicely. Edgar also took many photos of our attic (before, during, and after the job was complete). He showed us a few and I saw him scrolling past dozens--maybe one hundred or more--of photos on his phone. On day 1, the crew had accidentally knocked off and vacuumed up a small Bluetooth thermometer/hygrometer we had hung from a rafter. But, the old insulation was evidently filtered and Edgar was able to return the item and rehang it on day 2. Kudos to Edgar's crew for a job well-done! After making the final payment on day 2 and receiving the "Completed" email from Green Attic, we called them to request the certificate that Frank had said we would receive, and also the set of photos that Edgar took. We received the front side of the certificate, but it was unsigned and thus not valid. The back side had important warranty information, but was not sent to us. This certificate is proof of what was done and would be transferred to any future buyer of our house. Photos were sent, but only about 20 (some dups), and did not show some of the attic areas we wanted to see. Called again, and a different person said they would email me the additional photos and back side of the signed certificate later that day. It never arrived. Called again and spoke to yet another person who had no idea what certificate I was asking about, was heading to a meeting, and said she would call me back. She never did. Frank arranged for someone else to eventually send the signed front side of the certificate (but never sent the back side). He also sent about 15 more photos, but said that was all that could sent. So, I would give 5 stars to Frank, and to Edgar's crew, but zero stars to Green Attic's customer service. We never should have had to ask for the certificate and full set of photos that were promised to us, and it should not have taken 3 calls to Green Attic to get just the front side of the signed certificate and a small number of Edgar's photos. read more

Green Attic was hired to seal and insulate the attic. The quality of the work was as expected. The price was fair and again, as expected. The communication of start time, overall project timing, and exact what would be done was lacking. It was a long process that took longer than expected. At the end of the day I was asked to sign off on the work and asked to rate the workers who were standing in front of me pretty much expecting the highest rating. Likewise a call from the project manager over speaker phone asked if I was satisfied. A true survey of satisfaction has to be answered either anonymously or in private. Later on after the crew left I found that one of the workers put their foot through the ceiling but it was in the closet so not noticed until later. The two bathroom fans had foam that expanded through the fans. This situation created a need for another day of commitment to stay home with workers while they repaired the damage. As with the first time the crew was late arriving with no communication. Nevertheless the bottom line is my attic is sealed and insulated. The process was frustrating but at least it is done and done well. read more

Hired in 2/25 to seal exterior rim joists in finished garage from the room above (a project discussed with estimator, Tim, when Green Attic did a project for me in 2021). In '25, same estimator, Tim, recommended against accessing through the room above and said Green Attic could now do the work through the garage ceiling and would rough patch any drywall that was removed. Quote said Green Attic would cut drywall to access ceiling, add insulation, seal the rim joist "[w]here possible," and patch drywall. Green Attic did not even try to seal the rim joist and never intended to. It later said it had "transitioned away" from using foam to seal rim joists in finished spaces and it was sorry that "the contract language was not updated to reflect our revised practices." I paid Green Attic almost $3,000 for work it no longer did and had no intention of doing. The blown in insulation has had little to no effect on the room above. Green Attic offered a refund of $400, which I rejected. read more

After an angry phone call from James regarding my review, I contacted Green Attic directly, offering for them to come out to the space again. I know how much reviews matter to small businesses, so I don't leave a negative one lightly. Patrick came out to my home yesterday and was everything you'd hope for with an in-home assessment - seemingly authentic, not salesy, and fact-driven. He validated that there was not mold where James had communicated there was mold - although there could be some if we tore off all of our insulation. He also confirmed that it didn't make sense to do any insulation work until we replaced our roof. So, while I don't have anything new to add about my first experience with Green Attic, I wanted to update and add two stars, knowing how many other people Green Attic supports, and the impact the review could have. My issues were with one individual, and it feels dirty to leave a one star review because of one employee's practices. I trust Green Attic will deal with that internally. So long as you, the consumer, does your due diligence and gets multiple quotes, I think having Patrick from Green Attic out to quote it out also, is a win/win. read more

I contacted Green Attic for a quote on 10/20. Unlike the competitors, they were able to give a quote based on my provided dimensions, sight unseen. My project was garage attic insulation, so I can run my heat source in my finished garage without having to worry about creating a condensation environment, which could lead to roof rotting. The fact that they were willing to work with me on the quote over the phone was super refreshing. In fact, one of the competitors I called wanted to charge me $99 just to get an estimate! Of course, there was a disclaimer that the quote was subject to change based on final inspection, but nothing changed. To my surprise, after I accepted the quote electronically later that evening, James contacted me the very next morning (10/21) informing me he had a cancellation and had a crew at the ready if I was interested in having it done right away. I expressed some hesitancy because my garage was currently a mess as I have a project going on with my Nova. James assured me that they would be more than willing to clear a path and take good care to make sure my car was fully covered and protected. Not only did they keep their word, but James even texted me photos to put my mind at ease (which I've shared here). I now have proper baffling for venting and 18" of loose fill insulation to get me to a value of R-60. Their guys were in and out in about 4 hours and there was literally not a trace of their being there. James came by the next morning to collect payment. Simply put, this transaction could not have been any easier than it was. In a world of it being increasingly difficult to get contractors to show up, this was such a refreshing experience. Green Attic was great to work with. It was easy to schedule a free estimate/inspection. Patrick came out and identified issues and gave recommendations. It was easy to coordinate a date to have the work done. I appreciated the communication they gave before coming, including names of the workers. Alvaro, Romulo and Wilfrido were great. They were very respectful of my home and cleaned up all the work areas before leaving both days. Throughout the process they explained what they were doing and would often call me over so that I could see what they had done. It was convenient to get the Nicor rebate through them and the follow up inspection they did really showed the difference the insulation and weather sealing makes. Overall, it was a great experience. I've been debating if I would submit this rating, but I decided to share it with others. In Jan 2023, James came out to access my home and provide a quote for the needed insulation. By Apr 2023 I had yet to decide, so Green Attic (GA) contacted me and asked if I would mind if another expert came out to see if they could provide a better quote. I agreed, because after the first quote I had decided I would allow this company to do the work, so I wanted a better price. GA arrives with a mask on the day of my second appointment. I thought he looked a lot like James, from the first appointment. He entered and introduced himself by a name that I don't remember and said that he had a mask on because he was coming down with a virus. Again, a walkthrough was completed. During the walkthrough, this expert made comments and reexamined everything just as James had done in the first appointment. After the walk-through and before I was provided a quote, the expert said that he could do better than the quote that James gave me in January. During the entire visit, the expert spoke as though he was a different, more experienced person than James. I was given a quote that was less than my quote from January. I said I would review the quote and that I would contact GA to let them know if I was going to have the work done. The expert left my house and went to his car. Before he drove off, I went to his car to ask for a business card, so I would have his name. The expert had removed his mask by this time. It was James, the same person who assessed my home in Jan. I wanted Green Attic to complete my insulation job. However, I thought that was very deceptive of James. Therefore, I lost trust in the company. Although I have not had the insulation work done as of date, I did not call Green Attic back due to the deception. read more
