We thought additional attic insulation might help solve some problems we've been having with leaks due to ice dams so we reached out to Lighthouse for a quote. Patrick responded quickly and spent a good amount of time on the phone to talk through the fact that extra insulation might not actually be a fix to the problem we're having - he even had me send him pictures to check out what our attic actually looks like and gave me his opinion on whether it was worth installing more insulation. One of my BEST decisions is using them. Last summer, I insulated my attic with closed cell foam, after months of researching it. I had a wall furnace up there. Used to run almost non-stop in the winter to keep my office warm. It's -2F today and I STILL haven't lit the pilot light on that thing!! And the surprise bonus is that even the 1st floor is warmer. This started out as a DYI project until I got in over my head. So, I called 6 or 7 companies. Choosing the right type of insulation and installer is a daunting task, especially for a first-time homeowner such as myself. After receiving an initial proposal for spray foam insulation I reached out to Lighthouse Insulation for an additional quote. Patrick responded very quickly to my request and asked to follow up on a phone call. In my initial email I'd explained that I live in a Chicago Bungalow where the bedrooms are essentially in the attic space. On our call he asked me a handful of questions about the living space but quickly cut to the chase, letting me know that contrary to what the other company had told me after inspecting the space, spray foam was not an option for my home without a complete remodel of the upstairs. Patrick recommended I get an additional quote from another company and to reach back out to him with any questions after doing so. I did and after touring the house the other company said exactly the same thing, spray foam is not an option. We had a pipe freeze on us this past week in an area that gets frigidly cold in our house. After getting it unfrozen, I reached out to Pat from Lighthouse Insulation and he contacted me immediately. This type of communication was so helpful as we were very anxious about the situation. Despite it being very short notice, Pat came out to our house on New Years Day to help us out. He took the time to trace the source of the cold air, and explain to me all of my options. After it was all said and done, he actually recommended a home kit to fix the issue, as it was an easy fix. Patrick and his crew did an awesome job spray foaming our addition room (3 walls exposed to the outside.) It is like night and day, the difference in temperature. Crawl Space Insulation: When I first visited my (soon to be) home in January, the living room floor above the crawl space was so cold I could feel it through the soles of my shoes, so once I purchased the home I knew I would be seeking insulation for the crawl space below. I found Lighthouse through Yelp and asked for a quote. Patrick responded promptly and we scheduled a visit for him to look at the area in about a week. He was on time and quite pleasant to speak with, clearly knowledgeable about the subject of insulation with many years of experience in the area. He was able to quickly point out where another company who had previously been in the space had missed an important area. We quickly set up a day for him to do the work in about two weeks. On the day of our appointment, my painting crew was going to be at the house so I did not have to be there to let Patrick in. He called me midway through the job to tell me about a piece of wood that he thought he'd have to remove (and was included in my quote), but found that it was very stable and he would not be removing it, and made a point to tell me he was taking that off my bill. I think others might not have told me that at all, especially since I was not in the house that day, so bonus points there. When he finished the work, he texted several photos of the crawl space. I made arrangements to drive over to give him a check, he showed me a few maintenance items I should take care of in my basement. Patrick and his team did a great job on our crawl space, rafters, and two basement walls. I let him know that we had a few difficult to reach places realizing there is a limit in articulation with the spray dispenser. He however made it work and the results are fantastic. The basement feels much more comfortable and the temperature is closer to that of the actual house. We will eventually want the remaining walls done and probably the attic in the future. I hired Lighthouse insulation to encapsulate and insulate my crawlspace. I couldn't be happier that I decided to go with them as previous contractors bids were priced ridiculous. The owner Pat took the time to explain the scope of the work and provide recommendations to me even if I chose not to go with them. He was real genuine guy that I didn't feel wanted to make a buck off of me at the expense for sharing his knowledge and past experiences similar to my crawlspace. This became evident once I hired them. Pat was running the plastic liner on the crawlspace floor when he immediately stopped work to let me know he discovered the humidity source was broken seal in a sanitary pipe. Pat and his crew accommodated their schedule for the week it took a plumber to come out and fix it. I think any other contractor would have probably kept going and encapsulated over the broken pipe!
