We were planning on stopping by a friend of ours house for a small party this evening, but they were feeling under the weather so we switched things up and went to Crispy's Jax over in Springfield. We've been to Crispy's a handful of times over the past few months and tried a few things on the menu. Nearly every time we've been there we've seen pizzas go by us and thought "dang, we really need to try their pizza some time". So when we decided to go there tonight I figured we'd finally do that. In addition to that, my wife informed me that she was going to have Garlic Knots no matter what. So yes, we ordered Garlic Knots to start. I don't know why, but I was expecting them to be a bit tough. I guess maybe I've just had them at other places and they're usually thick / tough, so that's what I figured these would be. They weren't. They were really soft, in the best way. Not doughy or under cooked, just soft, warm and very good! We debated what pizza to go with and eventually settled on The Klutho, which is more or less their meat lovers pizza. We also did the garlic butter crust at the suggestion of our server. I'll start by saying thank you to our server for that suggestion because that was some good crust. I'm happy to report that we both thought the pizza tasted as good as we both thought it looked every time it went by us before. Let me put it this way: if the pizza in my photo looks great to you, yes, it's that good. Like I said, we've been to Crispy's a few times over the past couple of months and we just like the place a lot. We didn't plan to go there tonight when the day began but I'm glad it worked out that we ended up there. Now we've got about half a pizza to split for work-from-home lunches over the next few days. It had been a while since I was in Crispy''s and boy has it gone down hill. The vibe was 'frat house local community college' at best. The bartender was foul-mouthed with a minor present, dropping f-bombs left and right. If I was the parent in that situation, I would gathered my things and left immediately. Great spot in Springfield for drinks, pizza and more. The build your own calzone was massive. I had a salad to accompany my meal and that was also huge, could share it between 2-4 people. Service was good and food came out quickly since it wasn't super busy. The restaurant is easy to find and parking is available on street. Good visit, with no issues. 2.5 stars. Let's be clear - this is 1-star level food. The pizza is floppy, with a thick gummy cheese layer that dwarfs the crust and overly salty sauce. The slices I got were noticeably uneven and different sizes, and looked like they had been sliced by Stevie Wonder. The Caesar salad is more dressing than salad, with croutons from the bag. I recall coming here years ago and the food being above average, but definitely not the case now. Some points are made back through an affordable lunch special (9.75 for two slices and a drink) and very friendly service. But this was a bummer. read more

I am giving Crispy's 3 stars bc of the staff and pizza alone. The Laura was amazing!! Meatballs were def not fresh and the "sauce" is straight up tomato paste. Caprese was good, but not much can go wrong there. We went at an odd time and the place was pretty empty with plenty of seating options. There's no fluff here and very casual, perfect for a quick drink. Love that they do HH on the weekends. The staff were very friendly and fun. Upon entering, I immediately got the neighborhood sports bar vibe, similar to Cheers. My sister and I walked around the tables for a bit to see where we'd like to sit and ultimately decided to sit at the bar. Unfortunately, I had to switch out my barstool for another because the bottom was falling apart. Additionally, the counter at the bar was quite sticky. We asked the bartender to clean it, which he did, but afterwards, it was still sticky. When I asked if I could borrow the washcloth, he offered to wipe it down again. We ordered drinks and asked about happy hour specials. Ultimately, we decided on a pizza with fig, prosciutto, and arugula. I also ordered the Jose wings, which were absolutely delicious, while my sister ordered another dish, but I can't recall what it was at this time. In conclusion, I'd likely return again to try a different type of pizza and those Jose wings. However, I believe that the barstools need to be replaced; otherwise, everything was fine. read more

Stumbled onto Crispy's by accident and loved the look and layout of the place. We came back the next day for some food and drinks midday on a Saturday. Place was quiet when we arrived, but definitely ramping up as we left. You can see this is a well established place for both locals and new comers. All the food we had came out well, especially the Laura Pizza. Drinks were on point and service was timely. I'm so sad to be leaving this review that I put it off for days, but I think management needs to be aware of how their changes are landing with customers. First of all, if you haven't been to Crispy's before, I still recommend it. It's still a pretty good pizza at a good price, I'm just sad because it's not as good as before and I'm very picky, so that's a major blow to my local restaurant options. The service and atmosphere are also fantastic as always. Crispy's has been my favorite pizza place in town pretty much since it opened, and when it first became Crispy's 2.0, I actually thought the pizza was even better than before. However, at our most recent visit, it was seriously less good than before. The option for mascarpone to be added to the pizza was gone, and the amount of herbs added to the pizza was clearly meant to disguise that the rest of it was no longer as flavorful as before. This seems to be an effort to cut costs because the ingredients used more than before were more affordable (very heavy mozzarella and ricotta rather than a balanced variety of cheeses and white sauce, mainly). Also, the box was smaller than before and didn't fit the pizza in it properly, so it had to be stacked on top of itself in a manner that kind of ruins it. I want the management to know that if it's financially impossible to continue providing the same pizza as before at the same price point, which is understandable, they should just make it more expensive instead of compromising on quality! I'd gladly pay a little more for the best pizza in town instead of paying a low price for a mediocre pizza. The current price is very low and while that's very nice, I don't think anyone would fault the restaurant for increasing it to a normal pizza restaurant price if that enables a return to the previous high quality. read more

Great experience at Crispy's in Springfield this weekend. Beautiful day and we sat outside. Inside features brick walls, particle flooring and a very long wooden bar with a great selection of beer and specialty drinks. There are two levels inside. The game was playing, and there were multiple TVs. Great place to catch a game. The kitchen is also visible and was a really nice touch. Local art is feature on the walls. Really nice touch. I also love the fact that it is pet friendly. I had the steak quesadilla. Cheesy, right amount of vegetables, right amount of spice. Really good. The salsa was thick and a nice accompaniment. They did not have Mac and cheese available so I'll have to go back for that. My wife had the Chicken Pesto sandwich which was a home run. Crispy chicken, flavored perfectly. The perfect ciabatta bread and the pesto was a great topping. Service was great. A great casual place for some fantastic, elevated pub grub. Highly recommend you try this place. read more

Our first time here, we were greeted immediately and we asked about outside seating. Taking advantage of the great weather to eat outside, unfortunately was not the best idea when someone from inside came out to smoke and sit at the table next to us. We saw the ashtrays when we sat outside but it's been so long since we encountered smoking at a restaurant that it was still surprising. Food was good, I enjoyed my chicken pesto sandwich but would have liked the chicken sliced a bit thinner for a sandwich. I enjoyed the cucumber and tomato with balsamic drizzle, which was a great alternative side option to a typical side salad. My husband enjoyed his quesadilla too.
