Used a groupon to try a ceramics class for the first time and made two pieces. Loved the experience, although, I did not realize how long of a process it is from start to finish. It's quite a drive from Seattle to Bothell for 3 visits to finish my pieces. But overall, it was a great experience. Because of how far it is: I think it's just tough to deal with traffic for the 45-1 h drive. If they had a studio in Seattle, I'd be down to take more classes... Process involves: 1 day of shaping clay/drying (instructor will fire it for you), 1 day of painting or dipping, then come back for the pickup of the glazed pieces. Remember to initial your pieces and take photos, otherwise it'll be hard to ID your pieces when you're ready to pick them up @ the studio.

Such an easy, fun experience with kids. We walked in without stress and the staff was incredibly helpful and welcoming. They made everything simple, kept it relaxed, and the kids had a great time. Perfect low-pressure activity that's actually enjoyable for parents too. Would absolutely come back.

The instructor showed us two examples of hand building to choose from, or we could choose something else. I decided to copy her cup and saucer, and my friend copied her turtle, which used the same amount of clay. The instructor did not tell me until the very end of the class that I would be paying for two pieces, in other words almost double what my friend paid . Had I known from the beginning I would be charged double, I would have chosen a different item to make. Other than that, she was a good instructor. I will return to paint my project, but after that, I will not be patronizing that business anymore.

My husband and I were gifted a groupon for "Ceramic Painting and Glazing for Two" and came in on a Friday evening. We had zero expectations for what we were getting into but it ended up being a cute little date night for us. It was pretty packed but we were immediately greeted & instructed to choose any ceramic pieces to paint. Prices vary per piece, and if you come in with the same groupon I had you just pay difference of the groupon + any special glazes if used. Coming from someone who cant draw or paint for shit I was relieved to see a great variety of pieces where skill doesn't matter. Fun for all ages! Staff were friendly and answered all my dumb questions, they kept checking up on us throughout the evening even though it was busy. I wish I got the gentleman's name who was especially accommodating, letting us come back the following day to finish since we came close to closing hours. He provided the best customer service I've had in a while. Thanks again! For anyone thinking about coming here (you should), their small parking lot may be full since it's shared with another business so you can park at the vet clinic next door.

Went amazing, large selection of pottery to paint and super easy process! Staff was very friendly, helpful and insightful when it came to the whole process of everything and excited to see how our pieces turn out! Definitely recommend this studio to anyone looking for a professional and fun experience for pottery/ceramic, glazing and painting. They also have sculpture classes and other classes which are done separately from walk ins.

Our creations right off the wheel!

Three of my friends and I were enticed to try our hand at wheel throwing after seeing that this studio offered a 50% discount on one 90-minute class, which came to $36 per person. The class has a capacity of about 10 people and each person gets a single pound of clay. After creating your first pot, you can purchase a second pound of clay for $5 if you want to throw again. VISIT #1 - 90-MINUTE WHEEL-THROWING CLASS The instructor first showed us how to manipulate our clay by making it taller, shorter and opening it up into a bowl. Wheel throwing is WAY more challenging than it looks! You need to put your whole body into it and lean down, engaging your core. How you shape your hands around the clay makes a huge difference and you need to drip some water on it every few minutes to keep it moist. This is something one needs to practice a couple times to get the hang of it. Thankfully, the instructor was very patient, knowing that everyone in the class was at a beginner level. She walked around while we were forming our pots and kindly helped us get back on track if our piece was becoming misshapen. In the last few minutes of the class, we cleaned up our work station and wheel apparatus. Tip: Be sure to take a photo of your clay creation and/or mark your initials so that you can easily identify it during pickup. VISIT #2 - GLAZING OUR POTS After two weeks, you can come back to pick up your fired piece, although I believe they will hold it for up to three months after the date of your class. Anyone who wishes to glaze (paint) their piece can do so for an additional cost of $20. You would think this should be included with the price of the class since a non-glazed piece is pretty much unusable. We shaved off the sharp edges around the bottoms of our pots and then one employee provided an introduction to the various types of glazes they offer. The basic glazes are included in the $20 price, but they also have premium glazes that come at an extra cost. Before beginning to paint, we waxed the bottom of our pieces to prevent them from sticking to the kiln. Then, we got our creativity flowing by brushing on the glaze. Note: The studio also offers ceramic pieces (like animal figures, vases, mugs, etc.) that you can purchase and paint. If you're not into ceramics, there are other classes such as resin design, paint & sip, and more. As much as I enjoyed my first wheel-throwing experience, I consider the pricing very steep if someone is not applying the discount. At the discounted cost of $36 for the class and $20 to paint my piece, it came to a total of $56. Without the discount, I would have paid $92 for the creation of just one small pot.

Used a Groupon to paint a figurine and then have it glazed. The glazing takes a week so you have to return. It was very fun and the staff was friendly and helpful. Plan to return

Bowls we painted to our liking. Anything you want, all the colors you want. Bowls are not the only option- just what we picked.

After the great experience my partner and I had at this art studio, we attended another 'Paint n Sip' but this time with pottery. We were able to paint a ceramics piece to our liking and had a great time!

Creative Hands is in a beautiful new building with lots of natural light and space. There's several rooms, including a painting room, a pottery room, and party room, and it appeared that there was also something upstairs. They had the better part of two walls of ceramic items to choose from. We had a bit of sticker shock, as some items were priced much higher than we expected, like a 6" tall elephant for $49. We choose a small turtle, and that was $32. I realize that customers get "free" use of the paints and brushes, and it takes time and effort for the business to fire it and finish it up. Just know that this isn't a place to come if you are looking for something "cheap" to do for fun. Many of the items did not have prices on them at all. We found the staff to be polite, kind, and helpful when asked. It was a fairly chaotic and active space, though, and I would have really liked someone to explain to us how things were done. We were shown to a table and then left on our own. As novices, we had no idea we were supposed to do three layers of paint and let them dry in between, or that we were able to help ourselves to the paints. It would have been nice to have someone tell us that upon our arrival so we didn't wait for so long, only to have to flag someone down to help us after all. Also of note, all paints in the ceramic area are water soluble. No aprons are provided. There's a small snack and beverage assortment available for purchase. Turn around time for ceramics is about one week.

We went there for a date night and pottery was a fun activity that I have developed immense respect for! It was an hour long session with two instructors helping a class of about 12-15 people. They taught us basics of pottery and the package included to brisque one of our bowls. We could then choose to paint the heated bowl for an extra $5. Pottery, and the painting both were super fun and would recommend!

Bought a Groupon for their pottery class and had the best time ever! Got to play around on a wheel! Yash was a great instructor and made the class so fun! He made it very beginner friendly too! We will be back!

Upon arriving, the intro process for a new painter was easy. Bathrooms were available and clean. Painting tables had brushes and equipment already for you. Tons of pieces to choose from. Lots of paint options. Friendly staff.

    My finished resin canvas!
    Taylor R.

I was searching for resin art classes in Seattle and came across creative hands studio. I found out they offer a resin workshop at least once a month so I signed up through their website. On arrival, the parking lot was completely full and I thought I was going to have to find parking gas station or something because they're not exactly in an area with street parking. That was a little frustrating because I thought I would end up being late to the workshop - so I parked in a spot next to a parking spot in the dirt/gravel area which was probably not a real spot. The resin workshop was being held upstairs. They started off the workshop by having everyone introduce themselves and say whether or not they had worked with resin before. We each have our own station with a canvas, an apron, and plastic wrap on the floor. While the class was guided by staff, some parts were not exactly clear, and we had to explicitly ask clarifying questions to make sure we were at the right step in the process. Everyone in the class had totally unique pieces of art by the end. It was really cool to see how different colors and pouring styles created different effects on the canvases. Every piece is truly one of a kind! The pieces needed to dry, so you had to wait at least a day to come back and pick it up. This was a bummer because I traveled quite a ways, but I ended up making a trip out of it when I went to pick up my art. This is truly a unique experience, and I would definitely recommend a resin workshop to anyone who's curious and wants to try something new.

I picked a little bowl to paint and pulled up my Pinterest board for inspiration. I went to go pick out my colors and they all had swatches on them with 1-3 coats of paint to show you how it looks when fired. They also have precision tip paint bottles (in the same selection as the regular paint) for little details and stamps. They provide you with assortment of paint brushes, decorated pieces for inspiration and different foam applicators for ombre looks. They also give you ceramic palettes and a water mug to clean off your paintbrushes. After you're done with decorating, you clean up your items and put them in the correct compartments for the staff to wash. Then you pay and they tell you when you can pick it up (usually within a week). There was only one staff member when we were there, but she was super helpful and kind. Sadly, after i picked up my mug and took it home to have a cup of tea, it cracked when the hot (not even boiling) water was added. When I called and explained what it happened the person at the store just said that that "sometimes happens with pottery" and "the only way I could've avoided this was to get the stoneware glaze". They did not offer to have me come back in and redo a new mug. None of this was explained to me when I was choosing the glazed selections for my mug or when I picked up the mug. I knew one of the glaze that I picked was not food safe, but I was careful to put it on the outside. When I picked up the mug after firing, there was no paper insert with care instructions. So I guess I'll be going to a different pottery place to replace the mug at my own expense and asking more questions like "can I put tea in this tea cup?" next time. One star for spending $32 plus tax on a mug that broke before I could enjoy it and that no longer holds liquid. Buyer beware.
