Morning Lavender Cafe - Matcha flight

Morning Lavender Cafe

Morning Lavender Cafe is a spot that offers Afternoon Tea, drinks, and food at the back of the…read moreMorning Lavender boutique. It's a cute space with lots of pink, purple, and florals. Came here with some friends for Afternoon Tea on a Saturday. We made a reservation for 12:30pm. Check-in was easy and quick. Since it was raining, we were seated indoors. Our server came to explain the menu and tea choices. Unfortunately, they were out of some teas, but they have a seasonal tea menu to make up for it. There were four of us and we all got the Afternoon Tea set. The teas we chose were the Coconut Milk Green Tea, Blueberry Pie Green Tea, Earl Grey Lavender, and Cherry Rose Rooibos. The teas came out first followed by the food items. We were told to let the teas steep for 4 minutes before pouring them. They were all great, but the favorite for us was the Coconut Milk Green Tea. It was creamy, smooth, and milky with a nice coconut flavor. The Blueberry Pie Green Tea tasted like a blueberry pie. We did not feel that the blueberry flavor was artificial. The Earl Grey Lavender was more Earl Grey than lavender. There might have been a subtle lavender flavor. The Cherry Rose Rooibos was surprisingly flavorful. We were able to taste both the cherry and rose. The food items were all solid. Our favorite sandwiches are the Chicken Salad and Cucumber ones. The breads for all the sandwiches were soft and fluffy, but they held up well. The scones were crunchy but not dry, and the jam was delicious. The fruit tart was mediocre. The pastry was soggy, affecting the texture of the tart. The macaron was not as chewy as others I have had in thr past, but was not too sweet. I did not try the donut so cannot comment on it. Overall, giving Morning Lavender Cafe a 4.5/5. Service is great and staff are quick and attentive. The teas were all good and most of the food is solid with exception of a couple of bites. It is a cute spot for hanging out or having an event such as a bridal shower or birthday. Would recommend to others and would return for Afternoon Tea or other items.

Had to opportunity to check this place out prior to our trek back to NorCal, immediately following AYCE shabu, and I'm glad I didn't pass up on the opportunity, given that my stomach has seemingly reached full capacity. As we entered, we were gifted the pleasure of a warm greeting by a staff member who then sat us down and gave us first-timers a brief overview of the menu, his recommendations, and a brief history lesson about the origin of Fluffy Fluffy. After some waiting, we were presented with three aesthetically pleasing plates of these highly hyped fluffy pancakes. I then grabbed a knife and fork to cut into the stack of pancakes and was astonished by how... for a lack of better word, fluffy they were. Upon first bite, I expected a rush of sugar to register after a few seconds of chewing. However, that sensation never came. The pancakes were just the right level of sweet. A few minutes later, the plates were completely cleared and I was back to suffering from again reaching full capacity and thought to myself, "when will I ever learn?". All in all, great hospitality from staff, clean and upbeat ambiance, and most importantly excellent dessert items that were easy to consume without the feeling of developing instantaneous diabetes after finishing. Highly recommended.

I also ordered their waffle salmon sandwich-it came with fries and salad-large portion but wasn't impressive. The restaurant was empty and we had to wait awhile for the cashier to come out to help us-even though there's a little window that I can hear as well as see the chef and cashier talking. Lots of tables to sit and very bright kiddish environment.

This week were herbal tea samples! :))) Meet Fresh is a Twainese dessert chain focus on shaved ice with red bean soup desserts and boba. I stopped to try their matcha dessert along with a Hong Kong egg waffle, and both really hit the spot. The matcha latte was not overly sweet, with that slightly bitter, earthy taste you want from good matcha. That said, the Thai Ice tea is good but desserts feel a bit watered down compared to what I remembered. The base prices seem reasonable at first, but once you start adding toppings or upgrades, the total climbs quickly and can be a little shocking at checkout. The HK matcha egg waffle was fresh, warm, and had that perfect contrast: crispy on the outside and soft and airy on the inside. It's a simple item, but when done right like this, it's super satisfying. Honestly, it pairs really well with the matcha desserts. There a several tables to enjoy your teas.

Got the order togo, we went home and found out that they missed one of my order. Trying to call them to let them know because I do not live close by, no answer. They missed my 2 sesame balls, that was the main reason why we ordered Meetfresh. I thought the balls would be inside the Double Taro bowl, but I found none. We're not happy at all.

Santa Ana downtown is all metered street parking so be prepared to pay for parking. The stand is located right in front of the market so it isn't too hard to find. It's in the market so there's open seating and can get quite loud if there's a lot of people. Unfortunately, I was greeted very poorly when I got here. No one was available to help and periodically she would yell over to see if I was ready to order in a very bad tone. When I asked about the cheesecake selection, she said "you have to wait 30 min." I then asked what flavor it is and she said "pandan pineapple" in an annoyed tone. I asked if there were any other flavors and she said "no because I still need to decorate. You should really come later at night." I'm used to bakeries selling out later in the day but I guess it's opposite here. As if it couldn't get worse, I asked her if there are any coffees she recommended, and she said "viet coffee." I then said viet coffee is usually too strong for me and asked if there were any other recommendations and she doubled down and used a horrible tone to say "I already said I recommend the viet coffee." Therefore I opted to just not order coffee at this time. I ended up still ordering 2 cookies: miso toffee which was too firm and the ube coconut which actually was well balanced and had a nice coconut filling. I really hope they improve their customer service.

We came on a Sunday afternoon and I was immediately drawn to their case of yummy and aesthetically pleasing looking donuts. I ended up going with the "Bumbleberry Glazed" ($5.50) which is a combination of blueberry, blackberry and raspberry glaze atop of their 40 hour fermented sourdough yeast donut. Their donuts are fried to order so mine arrived perfectly warm and is definitely one of the best yeast donuts I've ever had. Service is friendly, and the shop is clean with ample amount of indoor and some outdoor seating so you can enjoy your donut right then and there. I can't wait to come back to try more of their other flavors!

The Banoffee was also good but was a little much for me, I've realized that I have a sweet tooth but not that much of a sweet tooth. Overall a great experience with high quality donuts!
