My boyfriend and I always go to the same place (Egg heads) which is located right up the road from this fabulous find. Today, I insisted it was time for something new. Something fresh and fun. That is exactly what we found at the Creative cakes bakery. There are SO many fun and tasty treats that make your mouth water as soon as you walk in the door. We had the "seasonal coffee" which was White chocolate raspberry flavored- HOLY MOLY GUYS! It was SO GOOD! For breakfast I ordered the Build you own Crepe with strawberry, banana and cream cheese- also yum. My boyfriend ordered the banana Nutella crepes which were awesome and he also got the Mex Tex breakfast wrap (He's very hungry in the mornings lol). Safe to say he approved because he practically licked the plates clean. And last but not least- the dessert. We got the peanut butter cup cupcake. WOW. I have to give them credit, they beautifully decorated the cake, however I was VERY disappointed on the flavor. The cake itself did not have a pronounced flavor nor did the any other part of it...I got whipped cream frosting and the frosting tasted like a cool whip. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! (not to mention they are over-priced. Let me begin by saying...I had the dissatisfaction of speaking to Becky P. today regarding a concern. She was condescending, dry, and very defensive in addressing our concerns. My mother (being the sweet woman she is) called and placed an order with them for a birthday cake for my 5 year old son's birthday. She called and told me they charged her $101 for a half sheet kid's cake. I was livid and told her that was a ridiculous price for a 5yr olds cake and to cancel the order. To my dismay, this business charges you the FULL PRICE at the time the order is placed and she had already paid. We conference the business and was told by Ashley that she would refund the amount but it would take 5-7 business days to do so. I instructed her to let me speak with a manager. Moments later, Becky came on the phone and identified herself as the business owner. I stressed my frustration in the fact that the cake cost so much and that it would take so long to get the money back, as well as why the entire amount had been charged already (as she had just placed the order today and charged her card today). Now, I work in management within a healthcare facility so good customer service is VERY important to me. As a business owner, it is the expectation that you should apologize and sympathize with dissatisfied customers and show empathy as well as work with them to rectify the situation in the best way possible. Even if the outcomes are still not what was requested, the efforts and good delivery are enough to satisfy a disgruntled customer and turn a negative interaction into a positive one. The way Becky spoke was rude sarcastic and defensive and as the owner, I now have even lesser expectations from her employees or the food being provided. After I ranted my customer service speech to her, she agreed and apologized for her defensive demeanor. She also apologized for not apologizing sooner about my dissatisfaction until i had to point it out to her. She went from "that's just our policy" "I don't know how that part of my business works" and "I'm not going to change my business just for one upset customer" to "I am very sorry that I got defensive" "I will void it and call my bank to see what can be done" and "I wish there was something else that I could do". Needless to say, individuals of color may not be welcomed in this "small business". I will say this though, I tried a cake from them in February of this year for my sister's bday and it was actually delicious. So i am saddened that they lost me as a customer, yet I even am more saddened that I now view this business in a "pro-trump" light. read more

We have gotten our boys birthday cakes here for years. Made the mistake of trying a new bakery once (for driving convenience). Huge mistake! Will never make that mistake again. Not impressed. First time eating here, ordered 2 salads and 2 cupcakes for dessert. Salads are too overpriced for the amount you get. I got the impression after she looked up my account that you are treated according to how often you place an order and how much money you are going to spend. In my search for king cake in Illinois, I came across a nontraditional version here at Creative Cakes. Instead of a bread based cake, Creative Cakes makes a chiffon cake with pecan streusel and orange flavored icing. Although the cake was delicious, I discovered I am more of a traditionalist when it comes to king cake and will not be getting their king cake again in the future. I will be back to try their other cakes though. Even though their king cake wasn't for me, I am giving them five stars because I also tried their Banh Mi Spicy Pork sandwich. The bread was fresh and the pork was tender and delicious. Although it is not an authentic Vietnamese version, it was still a great choice. I can't wait to go back and try their Carolina Pulled Pork sandwich next. They serve Intelligentsia Coffee and even feature local beer. I was also able to watch a couple of pastry chefs decorate cakes through an observation window near my table. It was a fun and tasty lunch experience that I highly recommend. read more

Love love love this bakery! So glad i went here! Was recommended to come try here by a friend for wedding cake! The people who help you for the sampling are soooo nice! Love that they have everything that you need the cake (most importantly) the book of fabrics, and the iPad to get inspiration for what you want your cake to look like! You also get a mini cake like your wedding cake for your 1st anniversary as a gift from them! So sweet! They have a point system which who doesn't love incentives to go to a delicious bakery! First of all Can you say pre made cake mix? Not to mention the "butter cream" frosting taste like powdered sugar and corn syrup. Our wedding cake tasting at Creative Cakes was one of the easiest and most fun parts of our wedding planning. We loved trying all the different cake combinations and looking at all the different wedding cake styles. Most importantly, the cake was delicious! Everyone that we worked with was so friendly and helpful. They offered us suggestions on cake sizes and styles, and we were able to choose multiple flavors for our wedding day. My family has gotten so many cakes from here, it's ridiculous. Weddings, Showers, Birthdays, you name it. The best part of their cakes is the filling! It doesn't matter which flavor, they never disappoint on that mousey, fluffy, creamy, super freshly flavored filling. My one criticism, it's a big one. We got a Red Velvet cake for a neighbor's birthday. He was from New Orleans and we wanted to surprise him with a taste from home. The cake was delicious, the filling was as well. However, we requested cream cheese frosting because we all hate that classic lard /grease based frosting that a lot of bakeries use. It coats your mouth and eww! Just no bueno. But I was actually angry to see that the cake had 2 layers of frosting. 3/4 of the frosting was that classic Crisco frosting and over that was a THIN THIN THIN layer of cream cheese frosting. You could CLEARLY see the layers because they were different consistencies and slightly different colors. Honestly I felt duped. That kind of cutting corners is so dishonest and it's cheating, it's stealing since cream cheese frosting costs more. It's just a cake, but when you are celebrating something special and end up with a fake frosted cake you have to wonder what else did they lie about? Maybe the fruit isn't fresh...maybe the other ingredients are sub par....who knows? So, I just haven't been able to let that go, and I haven't gotten any cakes from Creative Cakes since. I'm willing to pay more to get what I want, but I'm not willing to pay more to have my intelligence insulted. I paid for cream cheese frosting, not cream cheese veneer. read more

I bought 6 cupcakes yesterday for $18 for my boss's birthday today. I ate the peanut butter chocolate cupcake today and it has zero flavor. It tasted like a sponge and not even a tiny bit like chocolate or peanut butter. My colleagues confirmed there's were extremely bland as well. Who's next! WTF! Are you kidding me. At that point the place had another 5 people waiting. Then someone had the bright idea! (ME) To say. What about the numbers? When they got the oxygen flowing back in their heads, I went home with a confetti cake. I was told to let it sit out for a couple of hours. Oh! I came here instead of Webbers to get a frozen cake for 30 bucks. It was alright, but the buttercream frosting was hard! Yes, you ask! I started going to Creative Cakes for their amazing food offerings - always fresh and healthy! It is a great place for a well-rounded lunch. They even serve craft beer and wine! When wedding planning started, it was a "no-brainer" to have Creative Cakes make my wedding cake. The wedding cake tasting appointment was easy, laid back, and I felt that the staff really listened to what I wanted and ensured that it would happen. I brought in my own pictures of an idea I had and also ordered pastries for additional desserts to have at the wedding. All the paperwork and attention to detail from the staff moved smoothly. My wedding cake was nothing short of PHENOMENAL! The colors I had chosen were right on target and the lemon flavoring got amazing reviews from all that attended the wedding. Many of my friends who are getting married in the coming months or have other large scale parties to throw were very interested in the trays of pastries, too. They were so great - my husband and I never got any! They were gone in a flash! I will continue to return to Creative Cakes for any other bakery needs and quick bites to eat! read more

I would love to give this place better reviews, but until they offer a buttercream I am used to, I can't. I know what they do is 'real' buttercream, but it's not for me (or my family, or some friends). As much as I've tried to convert, I really miss the icing I am used to when I get things here. They should take a page from the famous Freed's bakery in Las Vegas and offer more options. Yes, I seek out bakeries when I travel. I love my sweets. I do have to say that the cakes/cupcakes I have tried here are more moist than most bakeries I've tried. The cake quality does have me coming back on occasion, but not my first choice because of the icing. read more

My daughter and son-in-law used Creative Cakes for their wedding cake on Friday, June 9th. Their venue-Patrick Haley in Joliet uses another bakery for wedding cakes, but we were free to use a bakery of our choice. We chose Creative Cakes because their buttercream icing is much better than other bakeries. It is not the icing that is so sugary sweet that you scrape it off the cake and leave it on your plate. Creative Cakes was very generous with their cake and icing samples. We ended up ordering a delicious white cake with lemon curd and strawberry fillings. The cake decorator copied a picture of a simple cake design that my daughter wanted. The cake was delivered and set up on time allowing the florist to put fresh flowers on it. The cake tasted delicious. The fresh anniversary cake that the bakery will provide is another plus. read more

The customer service at this bakery used to be amazing! I would love coming here, my parents & I have been going there for years. I stopped in today to order a cake and it was the worst - I asked to speak to the same lady we have always worked with, they wouldn't make an effort to help me speak to her and also did not help try to accommodate the cake design I was looking for. I was looking for a simple cake with a flag on it that only had 6 lines. I even said anything is really fine as long as it matched this general idea. Disappointed. I asked for a whip cream tiny button cake for a birthday, even showed them the pale colors I wanted and types of small dot buttons (off a sample cake they had there). They added large dot buttons and small in deeper colors, instead of pastels. They also added framing around the edge of the cake after I showed them a cake which was smooth with no frame around it. They went ahead and did it anyway- which makes a cake look ordinary. They offered to put a fondant number on the cake for the birthday - and by the time we got it home (6-10 minutes, in air conditioning) it had fallen over and broken. They packed the box with plastic to keep it standing up, but it folded over within minutes. It was paper thin so maybe that is why it fell over, but still, it made the cake look horrible. We tried and tried to put the number together, but it just fell apart. We had to add candles to cover it up (so it would not have been as noticeable). We expected better. The cake tasted good and got no complaints there. But paying over $50 for a cake, one expects decor that one requests and that will hold up more that 10 minutes. read more

This is as good as it possibly gets. When we had a cake for a recent high school graduation from Creative Cakes, all those "dieters" said "just a small piece, please." When they tasted this fresh, not-overpoweringly sweet cake, their eyes popped and they were asking for seconds and thirds. My mom - who is not a sweet eater - said "This is the best cake I've ever had. WHERE on earth did you get this?" The buttercream is light and delicious. The cupcakes are a wonderful treat and the cookies just melt in your mouth. And the place is absolutely SPOTLESS with coffee always fresh and hot! read more

Creative Cakes was recommended by the Odyssey Country Club where our wedding was held. We understand why. Their cake is AMAZING. We had a 3 tiered white cake with all white butter cream frosting and a black icing design. Each tier was filled with either vanilla bean mousse, strawberry mousse or chocolate mousse. It was beautifully designed and reasonably priced as far as wedding cakes go. One of my friends said "it was not only the best wedding cake, it was the best cake she ever had in her life." Their staff was also friendly, professional and offered good ideas to build this cake. This really is an easy recommendation. read more
