I purchased 2 coffee cakes on 3/20/26. One of them did not appear to be fresh and they reassured me it was made that morning which is extremely hard to believe considering the fact that it was hard and stale by the next day, Saturday, 3/21/25. The other coffee cake that i purchased on 3/20/26 was fresh and soft the next day unlike the other one. I was very disappointed over this. They should have sold me a fresh one that Friday and pitch the old one. read more

Last week we purchased the Almond Coffee Cake. Looked delicious. But when we sat down with our morning coffee we were VERY disappointed. We cut into the cake and it seemed fresh. It had Almond paste throughout and almond slivers on top. The cake tasted ok but the almond silvers were rancid. It was not just one sliver but all of them. We ended up throwing the cake away. A word to the baker, to save money by putting on old almond slivers you are costing a loss of a good customer. We just wasted almost $14.00 on nothing. BYW donuts were awesome. Go figure. read more

I was so excited to hear that there is a legitimate, well reviewed dupe of the spectacular Dressel's Chocolate Fudge Whipped Cream Cake. I mourned when they went out of business and have been craving one since then. I placed my order and eagerly anticipated arriving in Chicago (I'm from Chicago, but have since moved to the West coast) and going to Wolf's Bakery directly after landing to get my cake. I wanted it that much! As a caveat, we did arrive at the bakery around 3:30, they close at 6:00. The service was quick, as there was only one customer before us, and they were leaving as we entered. I had placed the order and paid in advance. You have to buy this cake in advance, there isn't one just sitting on the shelf. The first thing I noticed was the LACK of smell in the bakery itself. Granted, it was later in the afternoon, but their shelves were pretty fully stocked. A bakery should smell good. You should want to cry a little when you walk in, like good Polish bakeries of our youth, lol. My order was ready, and when she went to box my cake, I noticed the color of the outside of the cake was vastly different from the original. I still kept hope. I thought about taking a swipe of the frosting, but I refrained. I now wish I had. We ordered the cake, three of their lemon fluff cupcakes, some spritz cookies and 2 donuts. Everything tasted the same. There was no differentiation on anything, which was super disappointing. The Dressel's cake was a HUGE disappointment. To be fair, the cake itself was moist and delicious and the whipped cream filling was on point. But they completely lost the plot with the sickly sweet generic buttercream frosting. And the frosting was SO thick. I had to remove all of the top frosting and just eat the cake and whipped cream. I think any bakery could have achieved the same results, honestly. I've had bad buttercream in my life, but this was really bad. To the point where I thought about calling them and asking about it. For $38.95 before tax, this was a big fail for me. I wanted this to be successful SO BADLY! They ship out of state, and they would have had a consistent customer in me. I feel let down and sad that this wasn't as advertised. For all of you who gave this cake a glowing review.....you've clearly never had a Dressel's cake. There's no way this cake is even in the same ballpark. Back to the drawing board. I hope somebody does figure this out, for all of us Dressel's cake lovers. read more

I ordered a Dressel cake for our 96 year old dad's birthday. On the cake it's says Classic. I get it Dressel cake is a classic. i grew up we always had one on birthdays. It tasted nothing like the original Dressels cake. I asked if they could put Dad on the cake and they said No can't do it. The lady was rude as she said no again. I've rode past this Bakery hundreds of times over the years. On July 14, 2025 I decided to stop in and purchase a cake which was a last-minute thing for me. I ended up purchasing an atomic cake. And I asked for the number 64 be put on it and that was it. My could have done better at the age of eight. It was put on purple icing, I wasn't even asked what color I wanted and then when I commented about it, I was told that was all they had which I knew was a lie. I was told that the cake was good. I never tasted it. But the customer service was VERY BAD, Disgusting. They acted like they did not want to wait on me, like I was a joke for speaking up and asking questions about a cake that I was purchasing I will never ever purchase from them again. read more

I just ordered a custom cake. This is my first time going here so I wasn't expecting a lot but when the cake actually came, it looked so good. It looked even better than the reference picture the custom design that I wanted in the cake was so good and it was also not expensive. I was thinking maybe it was about like $100 and stuff but the price was reasonable. I will definitely purchase here again. Also some cake smells really bad. The cake smelled so good. It tasted so good as soon as I put it in my mouth, I felt the cake melting. It was the best feeling ever, really recommended this place. read more

I was in the neighborhood and was craving donuts. Wolf's came up and off I went. The ladies at the counter have been there quite a while and are confident in their baked goods. They should be. Everything is bought was delicious. I had to try the lemon fluff and red velvet cakes so I purchased 2 of each in cupcakes. The chocolate cake donut was light and fluffy and a nice vanilla flavor to enjoy with the chocolate on top. I enjoyed the coffee room but the best was their cheese Danish. Love this bakery! I ordered a cake for a gender reveal and Wolf's made it super easy! I called first to make the order and then had a friend call to tell them whether it was a boy or girl. The blue frosting was towards the middle of the cake so we weren't able to see the color until we cut into it. Wolfs is a staple. Ordered a beautiful atomic cake for my sister's birthday, and my mom had mentioned that they had ordered their wedding cake from wolves. Which that was about 50 years ago. They are open during quarantine! They haven't a bunch of yellow lines so people are standing 6 ft apart for social distancing! Only 7 people are allowed inside at once. They care about their customers and their cakes. The workers were so nice and helpful. The place smelled of super good baked goods. We got the lemon fluff cake for my bf's birthday coming up. I grabbed a brownie with nuts on it and 3 kolackys (cheese, cherry, blueberry) The brownie was superrr good! The cheese kolacky wasn't my favorite but still good. The lemon fluff was tasty too. GOOD LORD! So since I was sick last week we didn't get a chance to celebrate bills bday. He ordered a cake for the both of us w our names on it. Now prior to this , on Billy's 40th bday we always get a cake and sing happy birthday to him. We always order a white cake with real Whip creme and fresh strawberries. Instead we got a cake w frosting and no strawberries . Now mind you we have been ordering from them then since my kids were little and we always got a whip creme fresh strawberry cake . So Bill decided to give them another l chance and gets one for the both of us . Bills name and hotstuff which he always calls me. This is what we got when opening ! The woman said m that's what you ordered .!my husband said at 70 years old I think I know what my name is . They offered no I'm sorry , we made a mistake a discount or a replacement . I was in town visiting family and really looking forward to trying Wolf's version of the classic Dressel's chocolate-whipped cream cake I loved growing up on the south side. A friend had mentioned Wolf's Bakery recently and as long as I was in the area, I decided to stop by. I don't know of too many "real" bakeries anymore, so it is always a pleasure when I come across one. Most of the reviews are 4/5 stars and low star reviews are usually for ordered cakes and I wasn't ordering a cake, so I figured this should be a pretty good experience. From other reviews, I knew to get a number, but I didn't notice the number dispenser until a lady came in after me and got a number. I then went and got a number and the other customer was so sweet and traded numbers with me since she realized I had come in before her. BTW, the number dispenser is about in the middle of the wall with the front windows. It hangs on the wall and it is a bit high up. I mentioned this was my first time in the bakery and a few customers were friendly and said I would like it. I was waited on quickly and my clerk was very nice. (All of the other clerks sounded pleasant also.) After reading other reviews about the lemon fluff cakes/cupcakes, I mentioned them to my clerk. She gave me a mini cupcake to sample. The lemon cupcake tasted a bit sweet, so I decided to pass on it. I decided to go with a mix of dozen mini cupcakes: red velvet, cheesecake and chocolate cherry cheesecake to take to my neighbors later that night. I preferred the flavors of mini cupcakes available over the regular size cupcakes. I also bought a nutty cake doughnut to have with my lunch. Dozen mini cupcakes plus doughnut cost just under $21 (includes tax) The doughnut was not very good - - it tasted a bit greasy. The mini cupcakes presented well and my neighbors were impressed with the way they looked. The red velvet was a hit, the chocolate cheesecake was okay and the regular cheesecake cupcake actually tasted stale. At $1.59 for a mini cupcake, you would think it would be fresh. This was a bit of a disappointment. I guess I may have just had a bit of bad luck because the other customers in the bakery seemed to be pretty happy about shopping there. The store is definitely pleasant, the clerks are very nice and there is convenient parking. It did seem more expensive to me than Weber's Bakery--I've had good success with the bakery items there. From the Irish soda bread to the atomic cake, this place does not disappoint. Decadent pastries from decades old recipes fill your face with smiles and your stomach with happiness. A neighborhood fixture that has pleased many a sweet tooth. There is quality in the flavors and the staff is awesome and friendly. I know this because I can't about the place. A serendipitous find, as I drove all the way down here to another nearby doughnut shop, only to find it inexplicably closed. But I pulled right off 95th street and into their little dedicated parking lot. Long story short, I tried a few things (which were just fine) but truly had eyes only for the apple fritter. And let me tell you--these people know fritters. It was very nearly perfect, its only flaw a slight under-doneness. Still a top-tier apple fritter. The lemon fluff cake is very good. However, my experience with an employee at this bakery left me feeling like they have no regard for the customer. After I got home with the cake, I realized I did not request wafer flowers. I called and asked if I could order a few for the cake and pick them up. A young girl was trying to be very helpful and put in an order for them. They were not free, I would have to pay for them. Then a very rude employee got on the phone and said "no". I should have ordered them with the cake. She certainly needs a lesson in customer relations. Also, the person taking the order needs to let the customer know about their options. read more

I used to love this place. A friend of mine was going to be down that way, so I figured I'd call in an order for pick up to make it easier on him. When I called, the lady on the other end asked me if I wanted it for today, and I said yes. SHE SOUNDED SO ANNOYED. Like my order wasn't even complicated, I wanted some cinnamon raisin bread, and a couple of pastries. As soon as I answer her, she sighs OUT LOUD and then goes "what do you need, I can see if we got it" but you could tell she was so annoyed with me asking for a pickup today as if I planned all of this to make her mad. I will do my business with other bakeries. Bennison's in Evanston is MUCH better, and worth the trip. I will not be placing any future orders at this bakery anymore. read more
