Coconut pineapple cake with cream cheese frosting - A thick slice of pineapple cake with cream cheese frosting and pineapple chunks on top, served on a blue plate.

Stopped by after visiting several Open House Chicago stops in Chatham/South Shore. Prices are higher than average because the goods are better than average. Open late into the afternoon gives you the chance to pickup dessert for after dinner. Generous cake slices wrapped to go with minimal packaging (plastic wrap + bag) and cookie just with the bakery tissue dropped in. Chocolate chip walnut - generous sized and thick so that you get a little crisp and some soft fresh from the oven softness inside (not a cookie that snaps losing crumbs to your lap). If I lived closer, it'd be trouble. Got the coconut pineapple cake with cream cheese frosting. Saving it for after dinner.C

A large chocolate cookie with white filling is held in a person's hand inside a vehicle, with the dashboard visible in the background.

Super good and super nice people! We came to try the sweets as we've heard good things about the place. The owner was super nice and you can tell many locals come often. She then gave us some complementary cookies to try along with our order. I personally had the brownie with cheesecake and it was SO GOOD! definitely coming back :)

Banana Pudding and Key Lime Pie

Stopped in while I was in the South Shore neighborhood and was pleasantly surprised. I had intended to have a proper sitdown but then front area was being renovated. I ordered takeaway instead. Thanks to recommendations from the cashier, I walked away with hits. Loved the potato soup. I don't know if there is buttermilk or sour cream in the cream but it definitely works. The jalapeno cornbread is good without tasting as if it had been prepared from Jiffy mix. I still have to try the sweet potato soup that I bought. The banana pudding deserves an award. What I had was very much like banana pudding I had when I lived in the south. Sorry banana pudding purists, but if you haven't had it from some grandma from down South, get you some and you'll understand my assessment. The key lime pie is pretty good while not erring on being tart. But the banana pudding. Once the renovation is done, I shall return for the proper sitdown. There are a few menu items that I would like to try so that I can blog about the cafe.

Happened to find this place driving by.. What I got was so good. I got a chocolate chip cookie & à minature sweet potatoe pie. This was so delicious . I will diffently go back.

    Key Limeless Pie...smh

I give up!!!! Purchased two slices of carmel cake, and thought I was real lucky because they were just wrapping them up...NOPE! Went to store to buy my milk, circled the block to find a parking space, and then upstairs to prepare my palate for a months desire, the long awaited, freshly and homemade carmel cake! Tears!!!! This cake is so dry and so overbaked, they had no reason in the world to sell this kind of disappointment! Don't Give Me Some Sugah, give me my money back!!!

lemon pound cake, potato chip cookie, german chocolate cake

i have YET to have one thing that does not excel from here!!! i think the main standouts for me are the lemon pound cake (5 bucks for a HUGE SLICE that probably weighs over a pound but still has a super satisfying tender crumb and refreshing lemon flavor without being too cloying) and the potato chip cookie (very nice mix of salty and sweet!!!) def my go to bakery in the south shore area, and you're sure to be in for a treat any time you stop by!!

As soon as you walk in its like heaven from the aroma of the fresh baked goods!

Yummy is the first word that comes to mind when I think of this place! I'm so lucky to have it in my neighborhood although I haven't visited as much as I would like...I keep saying bad Tonya bad, so I have made up in my mind I will be back more often! The place is clean and the staff "Amazing" Red Velvet is my guilty pleasure when I come here! If you know "Red" you know everyone can't do it justice! Well they do! I have heard by many other people that many of their cakes are so good that it will make you forget your diet! They also serve cookies and pies and I haven't tried them yet but I will! I pinky swear I will be back!

We went here on a Thursday at ~11am and waited about 20 minutes to get dine-in seating. The staff members were all very welcoming, despite the amount of people they had to serve. If you are dining in, you must order all of your items in the front before being seated. Be sure to order everything you want, because the pastries might be gone by the time you want to take any to-go! The food was immaculate. The breakfast sandwich tasted like home, and the egg just melted right inside our mouths. The Ube and Coconut "Ensaymada" was another favorite. My partner and I enjoyed every single bite of it, and regretted that we did not get a second one! We weren't too much of a fan for the Black Truffle Croissant, but maybe because we aren't totally into the cheese-inside-croissant type of food. Though, it is a popular pastry, so definitely worth the try! Oh, Hot Yam! was another fan favorite (and honestly ours too) for drinks. The latte was not too sweet, and you could still taste the ube essence with hints of espresso Seating wise, there were limited booth-type of seats. We sat at the bar, but the limited seating explains why there is always a line. Very cute restaurant, and def aesthetically pleasing. We will definitely visit again, and maybe even try the tasting menu for dinner!

This is a fast casual spot so service was pretty fast. There is a decent amount of seating, most of which was surprisingly taken around 11am on a Thursday. For starters, they no longer have their rainbow cake! I was surprised to hear that considering how popular it's supposed to be. We got both banana lattes which were extremely sweet. It's basically dessert with a hint or caffeine. I'm a big fan of banana, so I actually liked this but I would've preferred half the sweetness. The Turkey Bacon & Egg Croissant was so good! A solid breakfast sandwich - the eggs were cooked perfectly, the turkey bacon was insanely crispy, and that sambal aioli was just what this needed. I highly recommend adding Avocado like I did for some freshness & creaminess since it's a heavy sandwich as is. The Cinnamon Roll was soft, moist, and not overly sweet. Overall, I really enjoyed this breakfast!

The texture was perfect too, with the soft wafers blending into the pudding while still giving it that classic homemade feel. Every bite was worth it. I finally had the time to sit down and share my full review, and I'm genuinely excited to talk…read moreabout our ongoing experience with Magnolia Bakery in Chicago. Our relationship with this place goes back several years, and at this point, visiting it has practically become a tradition for us, one that we look forward to every time we find ourselves in the city. Our love affair with Magnolia Bakery began the moment we tasted their famous banana pudding for the very first time. It's difficult to put into words just how unexpectedly delightful that first experience was. We'd heard great things about the bakery, of course, but nothing prepared us for how rich, comforting, and beautifully layered that pudding would be. It's the kind of dessert that immediately pulls you in, creamy, flavorful, nostalgic, and yet elevated in a way that keeps you thinking about it long after the last spoonful. From that point forward, Magnolia Bakery became an essential destination on every Chicago trip, almost like a ritual that we simply cannot skip. Our fondness for this place has grown so much that it has actually begun influencing our hotel choices. Whenever we plan a stay in Chicago, we deliberately look for accommodations that place us within convenient walking distance of the bakery. The surrounding area offers plenty of shopping and sightseeing opportunities, which makes staying nearby even more appealing. It's incredibly convenient to spend a morning or afternoon wandering around the neighborhood and then find ourselves naturally gravitating toward Magnolia Bakery for a delicious break. One of the things I appreciate most about this location is what you see the moment you step inside. The bakery has an open, inviting setup that allows customers to look directly into the baking area. For me, this is such a meaningful detail. Seeing the bakers at work, mixing, assembling, crafting everything by hand, reinforces the authenticity of the entire experience. It gives me confidence in the quality and freshness of what we're eating, and it creates a sense of connection to the craftsmanship behind every cake, pudding, and pastry. You can tell that things here are genuinely made from scratch, and that alone sets the tone for how special this place feels. The ambiance of the bakery is another reason we keep coming back. As a family, we love spaces that feel warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed, and Magnolia Bakery hits all of those marks. The interior décor has a charming, almost nostalgic aesthetic that creates a comforting mood the moment you walk in. Beyond that, there are several seating options available inside, which is perfect for us. After spending hours walking around the city, shopping, or sightseeing, being able to sit down, relax, and enjoy our treats becomes a much‑needed part of the day. Whether we're sharing different desserts, reviewing our shopping finds, or simply resting our feet, the space adds to the joy of the visit. The service style here is pretty straightforward, and honestly, that's something I genuinely appreciate. It's a typical bakery setup: you line up, scan through the display case filled with cakes, pastries, puddings, and seasonal items, make your selections, and pay right away. The simplicity of the process makes everything move smoothly. There's no rush, but there's also no confusion, just an easy, clean system that gets you from craving to enjoying your dessert in a matter of minutes. Although the line can sometimes get long, especially during peak hours or weekends, we have been lucky in that our visits almost always fall on weekdays. Because of that timing, we rarely encounter significant wait times. Even when the line does look a little long, it tends to move at a reasonable pace because of how efficiently the staff works. And honestly, even if we did have to wait, the smell of freshly baked goods and the anticipation of that first bite make the wait feel more than worth it. Overall, Magnolia Bakery has become one of those places that holds a special place in our hearts. It's not just about the banana pudding, though that will always be the star, it's about the atmosphere, the quality, the consistency, and the memories we associate with every visit. Each experience there adds something new to our affection for the place, which is why we continue returning again and again. We absolutely love this bakery, and we recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone visiting Chicago. Whether you're a dessert enthusiast, a banana pudding lover, or simply someone looking for a delightful spot to relax and treat yourself, Magnolia Bakery is an experience you shouldn't miss.
