    Strawberry Shortcake Drip Cake
    Amber J.

I decided to try a new bakery out and I'm glad I did ! I ordered a strawberry shortcake drip cake and also ordered the strawberry shortcake cheesecake. Omg when I say the cheesecake was the best I've EVER had, it was The Best I've Ever Had. The strawberry shortcake drip cake was amazingly delicious too. It was like a 2 for 1 special on the taste because it's not just cake but cheesecake too . I definitely and highly recommend this Bakery. Chef Ced deserves the Purple Heart for bakers !!!!

Original Lunchroom Butter and Peanut Butter Cookies
    Maricel J.

One of my colleagues stopped by this bakery and bought the peanut butter and original lunchroom butter cookies for the team. I haven't tried the butter cookies yet, but the peanut butter cookie is delicious! My colleague mentioned that she was glad that she arrived when she did because the cookies sold out quickly. After tasting one, I can see why. I will definitely try his other desserts. If you have a sweet tooth and, in the neighborhood, I recommend you give Chef Ced a try.

strawberry butter cookies, lemon blueberry, banana pudding, oreo, and strawberry cheesecakes, and a banana pudding cup.

My husband follows this bakery on social media. When he saw those strawberry butter cookies, he knew he had to get here immediately, and im happy he did. We purchased the butter cookies, banana pudding, oreo cheesecake, strawberry cheesecake, blueberry lemon cheesecake, and banana pudding cheesecake. Every item was delicious. The cheesecakes are moist and have a very tasty crust, and lemon blueberry is addictive. The butter cookies were like lunchroom cookies with strawberry added, and we also really enjoyed the banana pudding. Fast service, great prices, and 7 minutes away from home, we will be back!

Sweet Mandy B's - Banana cupcake with chocolate buttercream!

What can I say? I'm a frosting girl and Sweet Mandy B's is the best spot to get my fix!…read more If you love buttercream like I do, you'll find many treats here that will be right up your alley! From frosted cookies, cupcakes, and even cake by the slice, they also sell pies (including by the slice), brownies, scones, and all kinds of other goodies. There's definitely something for everyone (With a sweet tooth) here. It's a great spot! This location in particular had a lot of seating, as well, and is also accessible from the Northwestern Med building or from the street! I especially loved the Cookie Monster cupcake. Vanilla cake with a chocolate chip cookie baked at the bottom, with chocolate buttercream. I think. It was DELICIOUS! The perfect sweet treat!

A Longtime Fan, but Lately... a Mixed Bag at Sweet Mandy B's…read more I've been a loyal Sweet Mandy B's customer for more than five years. In that time, I've raved about their desserts to friends, hosted celebrations with their cakes, and considered them one of my go-to bakeries in the city. But over the last 12-18 months, something has shifted and the experience has become surprisingly hit or miss. The first indicator was a slice of their snickerdoodle cake that we tried several months ago. The cupcake had always been a favorite so we thought we would try the cake slice, but this time it arrived disappointingly dry. A few weeks later, we tried the banana cake slice, and it was a completely different story, moist, flavorful, and topped with a rich chocolate frosting that reminded me why I fell in love with Sweet Mandy B's in the first place. Their cupcakes were another longtime love of mine. However, they now come standard with sprinkles or chips on top. When I asked if I could get one without those toppings, I was told I'd need to place a custom order (which can't be done for a single cupcake). It felt surprisingly inflexible for such a small request. For a recent birthday, I ordered a yellow cake with chocolate icing. Unfortunately, it landed on the "miss" side of the spectrum, dry and crumbly. Thirteen guests tried it, and more than one commented that even a boxed mix would've tasted better. Lastly, we picked up the peanut butter Rice Krispies treats, a nostalgic favorite. These, too, were disappointing: stale, tough to cut, and ultimately left unfinished because no one enjoyed them. Bottom line: Sweet Mandy B's still has the ability to wow when they get it right. But the inconsistency in quality has become hard to overlook. As a longtime fan, I'm really hoping they return to the delicious reliability that made them such a standout in the first place.

It was rich, creamy, and packed with banana flavor without being overly sweet. The texture was perfect too, with the soft wafers blending into the pudding while still giving it that classic homemade feel. Every bite was worth it. The bakery itself had an inviting feel, and service was quick and friendly. It's the kind of place that instantly puts you in a good mood when you walk in. Definitely a spot I would come back to anytime I'm craving something sweet.

I finally had the time to sit down and share my full review, and I'm genuinely excited to talk…read moreabout our ongoing experience with Magnolia Bakery in Chicago. Our relationship with this place goes back several years, and at this point, visiting it has practically become a tradition for us, one that we look forward to every time we find ourselves in the city. Our love affair with Magnolia Bakery began the moment we tasted their famous banana pudding for the very first time. It's difficult to put into words just how unexpectedly delightful that first experience was. We'd heard great things about the bakery, of course, but nothing prepared us for how rich, comforting, and beautifully layered that pudding would be. It's the kind of dessert that immediately pulls you in, creamy, flavorful, nostalgic, and yet elevated in a way that keeps you thinking about it long after the last spoonful. From that point forward, Magnolia Bakery became an essential destination on every Chicago trip, almost like a ritual that we simply cannot skip. Our fondness for this place has grown so much that it has actually begun influencing our hotel choices. Whenever we plan a stay in Chicago, we deliberately look for accommodations that place us within convenient walking distance of the bakery. The surrounding area offers plenty of shopping and sightseeing opportunities, which makes staying nearby even more appealing. It's incredibly convenient to spend a morning or afternoon wandering around the neighborhood and then find ourselves naturally gravitating toward Magnolia Bakery for a delicious break. One of the things I appreciate most about this location is what you see the moment you step inside. The bakery has an open, inviting setup that allows customers to look directly into the baking area. For me, this is such a meaningful detail. Seeing the bakers at work, mixing, assembling, crafting everything by hand, reinforces the authenticity of the entire experience. It gives me confidence in the quality and freshness of what we're eating, and it creates a sense of connection to the craftsmanship behind every cake, pudding, and pastry. You can tell that things here are genuinely made from scratch, and that alone sets the tone for how special this place feels. The ambiance of the bakery is another reason we keep coming back. As a family, we love spaces that feel warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed, and Magnolia Bakery hits all of those marks. The interior décor has a charming, almost nostalgic aesthetic that creates a comforting mood the moment you walk in. Beyond that, there are several seating options available inside, which is perfect for us. After spending hours walking around the city, shopping, or sightseeing, being able to sit down, relax, and enjoy our treats becomes a much‑needed part of the day. Whether we're sharing different desserts, reviewing our shopping finds, or simply resting our feet, the space adds to the joy of the visit. The service style here is pretty straightforward, and honestly, that's something I genuinely appreciate. It's a typical bakery setup: you line up, scan through the display case filled with cakes, pastries, puddings, and seasonal items, make your selections, and pay right away. The simplicity of the process makes everything move smoothly. There's no rush, but there's also no confusion, just an easy, clean system that gets you from craving to enjoying your dessert in a matter of minutes. Although the line can sometimes get long, especially during peak hours or weekends, we have been lucky in that our visits almost always fall on weekdays. Because of that timing, we rarely encounter significant wait times. Even when the line does look a little long, it tends to move at a reasonable pace because of how efficiently the staff works. And honestly, even if we did have to wait, the smell of freshly baked goods and the anticipation of that first bite make the wait feel more than worth it. Overall, Magnolia Bakery has become one of those places that holds a special place in our hearts. It's not just about the banana pudding, though that will always be the star, it's about the atmosphere, the quality, the consistency, and the memories we associate with every visit. Each experience there adds something new to our affection for the place, which is why we continue returning again and again. We absolutely love this bakery, and we recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone visiting Chicago. Whether you're a dessert enthusiast, a banana pudding lover, or simply someone looking for a delightful spot to relax and treat yourself, Magnolia Bakery is an experience you shouldn't miss.
