It's definitely worth waiting in the line out the door for, but be careful of the swinging door of people coming in and out of the small shop. Right as you enter, the line weaves around the bakery counter, since it moves quickly, it becomes a bit of race to pick out anything else you may want to try. We also got the chicken curry which was relatively delicious as well. I believe they do some bakery items preorder and people are able to essentially skip the line for pickup. Can't believe I haven't reviewed this place! Been coming here for years and their strawberry croissants have been my go-to when I need to bring a dish to parties and gatherings. There's always a line out the door, especially if you come on a holiday, but it goes fairly quick. A staff member will get your attention and you just let them know what items you're trying to get. As the line moves inside the store, you have the opportunity to browse the display cases filled with chilled pastries. I feel like they are quicker and friendlier with their service. I have come countless times and introduced many friends to their pastries and each time I am delighted to come back. Similar to what some others commented on, the attitude of the cashier lady/teen/young person was not necessary. When I got to the counter there was no one else in line and she proceeded to have a conversation with other employees while making me wait till the end of her story. Driving here, my mind was focused on ordering one thing only... their famous strawberry croissants! But I caved and got some other pastries too. Task failed successfully. You'll find this bakery on the corner of El Camino Real and 6th. Parking in the plaza was plentiful. They have an outdoor patio with tables that mostly fit two people, and a handful of larger tables for groups. It's a bit narrow and there's no awning for shade. It's best to come early mornings, cloudy days, or when the sun is more west. I heard the lines were long, but I was lucky enough to beat the lunch crowd on a Saturday afternoon. I almost thought I walked into the wrong place. They have several pastries on display, packaged breads available for purchase, and doughnuts. Their food menu is also pretty extensive, from sandwiches to sushi rolls to currys. Strawberry Croissant - pretty much perfect in every aspect. Starting with the laminated dough, which was baked until the outer layer had a nice golden finish to it. Crisp and buttery on the outside, soft and flakey on the inside. It comes with a custard filling, which adds a bit more sweetness and creaminess. The strawberry slices were fresh. If I really had to nitpick, the croissants were smaller than I thought they would be. But the size is reasonable for the price they charge. Strawberry Banana Croissant - also well made, with the same great puffy croissant, ripe strawberries, and velvety custard. This one comes with nutella and sliced bananas, which is a very tasty combination. Raspberry Cream Cheese - just the right amount of tartness and cheesiness for this otherwise sweet pasty. A little more crisp compared to the previous two. Powdered sugar is added to top it off (on the croissants as well), so be careful not to get it on your clothes. The pastries here have a sweetness that's perfect for an Asian palette; my family loved it and we don't have sweet tooth's. We got two strawberry croissants and one strawberry Nutella croissant. It is the perfect size and easy to eat, not messy at all. We also got three regular coffees for drinks and added milk and sugar on our own by the bar next to the cashier. We didn't even know there was a café menu until we paid because you can't see it unless you walk to the very end of the store. For a savory item, I got a curry bread, which felt oily but was okay for a quick snack for later on in the day. It had a mild curry flavor. Basic stuff. I ended up throwing away some of the bread because it just felt like too much oil. We took our items outside to eat at the tables. There was shade and you have a view of the street. I'm so happy I finally got to try Cream Pan! I've heard from other friends who are locals to OC that this place is a must-go if you're in the area since their Strawberry Croissants are so yummy. And they were right! The bakery is in a somewhat random plaza that doesn't get much traffic but you'll know you're at the right place because there's usually a line outside the door to Cream Pan. We went around 11 on a Friday and there was a small line but it went by quickly. They had a lot of goodies that are savory and sweet inside. It's a very cute small bakery with so many options to choose from. We only ended up getting the strawberry croissants since that's what they're most known for, but I definitely want to go again to try their other things! They had katsu sandos, almond croissants, fresh bread, curry pan, and so much more! The strawberry croissants were light and the size was decent. Enough to be a light snack, but not heavy enough to feel full from one. The cream was nice and although it's not currently strawberry season I didn't think the strawberries were too sour. Service was also very nice. You can tell the people there do enjoy interacting with their customers. Definitely a must try if you're in the area! What's up: I've never heard of Cream Pan before but when my coworker decided to treat us and bring some in, I knew I was going to love it and eventually make my way here. Japanese-French inspired pastries?! Oh, yes please!! Parking: Located in the El Camino Plaza, they have a handful of 30 minutes only parking spots reserved just for Cream Pan. If those get filled, there's plenty of other spots in the lot that's shared with the rest of the shopping mall. Environment: My coworker warned me that this place was popular and often had long lines that can wrap around the building. Luckily, when we got there, there were only two other people ahead of us. Being Covid conscious, you have to wait at the door until you get called in. Once you're in, you place your order, pay, and have a short wait as they get it ready. We asked them to split our order of 14 into 3 boxes and they easily accommodated us. Other than pastries, they also serve curry. What was ordered: - Strawberry Croissants (cream filled croissants with fresh slices of strawberries topped with powdered sugar) Yay/Nay/Meh: Yay. These are so good. Awesome, fresh, and still delicious when you eat them later. I liked how the croissant were fluffy and flaky. Wow, the strawberry croissants here are definitely my new obsession! They're perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the custard is just the right texture and amount of sweetness. The strawberries added a perfect balance of tart and sweet to the croissant too. We picked them up for breakfast at around 8:30 am and the wait was not bad at all! Im dissapointed coming to this location as I experienced bad customer service. It was my FIRST TIME going here. I went ahead tried to get chocolate horn from the cubicle and it turned out it was locked so I asked this Asian lady behind the counter( maybe the owner/manager) why all the bread was locked because I thought you can just pick up the bread and place it on your tray and pay at the checkout like places like Paris Baguette, 85° etc. And her response was laughing at me because I didnt know the procedure around this shop. So disrespectful! I don't care if the bread was good if the customer service is sucked i won't be going to this place, at least not this location. All of the workers are very friendly and attentive. The front left of the store has prepared cold foods such a variety of sandwiches and I believe even California rolls! The next section has the sweet pastries such as the strawberry croissants and cream pans. The third section has savory pastries like the ham/cheese buns, hot dog buns, or bao buns. Finally, they have the musubi and onigiri by the register! Everything is absolutely delightful. The custard on the croissants arent too sweet and goes perfectly with the strawberries. The light flakiness of the croissants is heavenly! The egg sandwich is on a butter roll and is very filling, considering it's about $2.60. I also had a sake onigiri, which I loved how the seasoning and sake are mixed into all of the rice and not only in the center of the onigiri. This location is great with their offerings and it is nothing short of amazing that they are consistently busy yet maintain an available selection of pastries, baked goods, and cooked items. The only reason I had to ding a star is that they offer several items that are extremely basic yet comes with a premium price tag. For example, a lot of the deli sandwiches are made with seemingly basic items and it's hard justify the price tag. They even have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on sale at times for $3 which I found to be slightly insulting, but I guess it may be available as an option for hungry kids. Items may also not be available at the same time, such as the pork/chicken katsu sandwich that I could never find early in the morning but should be available closer to the afternoon. The strawberry croissants are certainly a signature item for this location and also a fantastic treat. The crunchy buttery texture of the croissant pairs well with the custard cream filling and slices of strawberry which add just enough sweetness to the entire pastry. It's real easy to eat a couple without realizing it and the pastries also make for a great catering item, as you can order a whole trayful to bring to the office or party.
