The Square Deli - Philly Philly. Best sub I've had. Elite.

Absolute perfection. The photo says it all ... the ingredients were world class, preparation was masterful, and the char was epic! After we chatted about the steak sub with some patrons I had the opportunity to try a steak and cheese ... again, just amazing! Sliced ribeye, cooper sharp, and a seeded bun ... an homage to the best in Philly. Do not miss this experience! Thank you Chris ... see you soon!

They were out of long hots, which isn't a huge deal, but seems would be a major part of the flavor profile. It comes with a garlic aioli, which I'd strongly recommend skipping. It's extremely heavy on the aioli with very little garlic flavor, and the added provolone actually takes away from the overall taste rather than enhancing it. The real issue, though--the nail in the coffin--was the steak itself, which is obviously the most important part. It's advertised as being shaved fresh on site, but the trimming and consistency need serious work. I ended up throwing away more than half the sandwich. Even picking through the meat, a large portion consisted of thick, roughly 1/8-inch thick slices full of gristle (see picture) that were impossible to chew. That's not what I expect from a $19 cheesesteak. I'd expect that quality from a Market Basket sandwich, not from a place like this, and that was genuinely disappointing. As a side note, the house-baked sesame roll is a nice touch, but it really should be toasted. As served, it was overly soft and heavier than a typical sub roll. Two stars solely based on the cheesesteak. It's not a one-star review only because the pizza and chicken cutlets are still good here.

We took a little Summerween trip from Boston to Salem, then back to Boston (via train). We'd…read moreplanned to ride the train back to Boston then take a different train to the airport, but seeing our luggage, several people on the train recommended avoiding downtown Boston and instead hopping off at Chelsea to take the Silver Line bus to the airport shuttles. Our flight was delayed and we didn't want to just sit in the airport, so we decided to listen to the locals, hop off at Chelsea then look for some cool local spot to get a coffee and maybe some food. This is a hidden gem in Chelsea. We asked folks on the train if they had recommendations.. they did not. We got off at Chelsea and it was pretty much a food and attraction desert, at least within walking distance of the bus stop. Luckily, Yelp came to the rescue. The coffee search brought up Dunkin, Starbucks and Aloe Natural. A quick glance at their Yelp page showed a picture of the coconut obsession coffee drink, and I was sold. With our luggage in tow, we walked the 3 blocks from the bus stop to find the business. It's literally a straight shot down the road, but I do recommend crossing to the right side of the street when given the opportunity, then taking the crosswalk to move over to the left right before reaching the business. The entrance is 2 small steps, so keep that in mind if you are a wheelchair or adaptive walking device user. It's a small, but clean and welcoming spot -- even offering a little swing and backdrop for selfies. We entered just before 2p on a weekday. The woman behind the counter was friendly and welcoming. She smiled and thanked us for visiting when I told her how we'd come to find the business. She said most of their traffic is students and teachers who want a healthier option in the neighborhood. She told us they have another business in the neighborhood which offers the often heavier, traditional Hispanic foods. We stayed until 3p, when they closed -- but that last hour they had a really steady stream of students and takeout pickups. We were honestly surprised to see them close so early. It seems like they'd do well to stay open until 4p, or maybe even 5p to catch more of that after school/work crowd. We went for the coffee but were blown away by the açaí bowl. It was delicious! Fresh, light, healthy-- everything I needed after 5 days of tourist walking and exploring. I ordered the iced coconut obsession and was pleased to get a little bit of Nutella with every sip. It was decadent, but not so sweet that it made my stomach hurt. My girlfriend ordered a strawberry lemonade and was also pleased. The prices were super reasonable, especially given the size and amount of fresh produce. My GF said she wasn't really hungry and only wanted a few bites, but ended up eating half of my açaí bowl. It was that good. If they'd been open later, I would have ordered a second one. I definitely recommend giving this small local business a try. Next time we find ourselves in Boston, we'll definitely stop in Chelsea to take the silver line bus to the airport and get a repeat of this exact meal. **As a side note, the restroom was a single-person, gender neutral room with a full-size baby changing table. It was clean and great for a #1. There's a table just outside the bathroom door -- only because the inside space is very small. They are very mindful of this and try to keep the bathroom door shut when not in use, so knock if you need to go.

My wife was looking for a vegetarian-friendly spot, and this place had great ratings, so we gave it a shot. I went with the Philly Cheesesteak, and I definitely enjoyed it. Was it the best I've ever had? Nah. But it was flavorful, well-cooked, and disappeared pretty quickly. I will say, a little more cheese would've taken it from a 7 to a 9 for me. The real star of the show though? The loaded fries. Crispy fries with a generous topping that made every bite hit. Easily my favorite part of the meal. Food-wise, no complaints. The reason I'm landing at 4 stars is the customer service. It wasn't bad by any means, but there's something about walking up to the counter, saying hello, and just getting a silent stare back that throws off the vibe a bit. Maybe I'm just morphing into an old man, but a quick greeting goes a long way. That said, it didn't ruin the experience. I've got another Boston trip coming up, and I'll probably swing back to try something else. Definitely worth checking out, whether you're vegetarian or just like good food.
