Upon arrival, whereas the outside looks plain the inside certainly packs a punch. Black & white tile with cherry red accents along with shiny plastic furniture gives this place a unique and fun atmosphere. The food menu is typical diner fare including an assortment of sandwiches, soups, salads, wraps and with decent breakfast options served throughout the day. During my visit I tried the Granny Smith Apple/Smoked Gouda Grilled Cheese with Applewood Smoked Bacon. That's a mouthful huh? It was creamy, ooey-gooey and very rich. All in all, a solid choice. We also ordered a basket of Sweet Potato Tots which were alright. Nothing too special. IMO, the popularity of Crazy Beans lies with the drink choices. They're known for their lattes and coffee selections which I must say, were pretty impressive. If you're a caffeine nut like myself and can't function throughout the day without a cup of coffee, you'll love this place. I had breakfast for the first time here (actually it was more like brunch since it was 1 pm) and I discovered that the portions are HUGE. You usually start off with a drink and if you order a latte served in a mason jar they're usually pretty big and filling. I ordered chocolate chip pancakes from the kids menu and there were three pancakes with whipped cream in an order. That was two too many for me and I ended up taking the them to go. My friend ordered the old fashioned corned beef and banana chocolate chip peanut butter pancakes (again from the kids menu) and took her entire pancake order home. I personally know one of the owners and been trying to come here for awhile with my fiance but being we have opposite work schedules it's hard but we finally had a Saturday off together and said this place was our "must try" today. My friends and I stumbled on this place when we were in the area for brunch. It's a cozy retro style kind of place. We ordered the crab cake eggs benedict, The Crescent City Crabby Melt, and the Eggs Your Way. I liked the crab cake eggs benedict except I think that adding the sausage patty was a little too much. Definitely a filling breakfast. The Creole hollandaise sauce was interesting and had a slightly different texture than your regular hollandaise. I would have preferred if they topped the eggs benedict with a little less sauce. The Crabby Melt was amazing. I love their crab cakes. The eggs your way is your standard eggs-bacon/sausage/ham-homefries-toast platter. Nothing exciting. We also had the sweet potato tots to share, which were so addicting! We had breakfast here on Saturday morning. This place should get 5 stars but I'll explain in a minute. First this place was very busy with a wait list. We were told 20 minutes. Fortunately it's located in Stony Brook village and there are a lot of nice shops to visit while waiting, but the 20 minute wait turned into 10 minutes. That's worth a star!!! Now when I eat out for breakfast I always get eggs, usually an omelette, but today I got crazy and ordered their French Toast with berries and cinnamon cream. Good choice and now after all these years I may just switch to French Toast as my go to breakfast. The waitress was great brought coffee right away, and just for the record you probably won't need a refill because the cups are huge. We will be back for sure. Of the 4 stars, I almost forgot. First, the place is very small and seating is tight. I don't think they can change this and a big and, this is cash only. I never understood why restaurants have a cash only policy, ha ha, maybe I do but it causes me to move on most times. I'll just have to hold on to some cash so I can go back soon. read more

With meals ranging from omelettes and pancakes the size of your head to a fresh salad, this restaurant offers a variety of food to satisfy your tastebuds and stomach. Although I wish they served milkshakes, their selection of sweet lattes is also another aspect of the restaurant that I enjoyed. However, my overall experience was underwhelming for I had high expectations prior to sitting down and having a meal. The prices are fair for most dishes, but some aren't. The portions may be big, but the flavors are lacking slightly. The restaurant is also fairly small, so there is quite a wait most of the time. No restaurant can have best of both worlds. Awesome food for a reasonable price! Basically they serve diner style food, but they have a lot of creative stuff on their menu that would win the heart of a foodie like myself. For example, I got their HUGE gouda grilled cheese sandwich with apple, bacon, and honey on thick slices of whole wheat for only $10. Best food I have had while in New York! Large portions, exceptional flavor and wow!!! the atmosphere was exceptional

I'm super bummed to give this place only three stars but my first and only experience last week was deserving, but I'm optimistic that on another visit my rating could definitely improve. Ok, so my two friends and myself walk in and immediately fall in love with the interior and are seated upon entering. It was closer to closing (2.5 hours before closing) which didn't really warrant the poor service seeing the lack of patrons (everyone seemed to be in that typical home stretch mode that is kind of universal, and results in carelessness). Our waitress was sweet and understood that we were overwhelmed by the endless flavor combinations for out frozen lattes and came back several times, and once they were finally ordered it took what I thought was a little too long but I didn't mind all that much because my company was stellar. When they arrived we dug in and were all beyond delighted. We all went without speaking for several minutes before expressing how much we each LOVED our lattes. However my friend ordered home fries and they gave them to her in a to go container which was kind of annoying, but whatever, the waitress apologized for the kitchens mistake and insisted we take our time. Anyway, we finished our drinks and I had noticed our waitress went MIA? We sat for a while, until we were the only ones in the restaurant. I kept trying to make eye contact or at least seem like I needed attention of sorts but was overlooked several times by the girl who was breaking down tables for closing. Once I got her attention I asked for a check which she then proceeded to get but first asked who our waitress was, who she later informed us had already told her she closed out her table and left. Awkward! The girl who came to our saving then offered us 50% off all of our lattes, but then returned with the wrong checks which she then took back and told us she would still provide a discount, which she did not, but we were trying to get someplace by a certain time so we didn't speak up. A lot of this had to do with the inexperience of the young waitstaff who were all beyond eager to end their shifts. Which I get because I'm only 20 myself, however when you're in the hospitality business it is absolutely not acceptable. Nonetheless i would recommend a crazy beans visit at the start of the business day, which I will certainly be giving a try in hopes to not be disappointed again. This place is super cute, and a great little place to go with friends. Hopefully you'll have a better service experience, but rest assured that the flavor is certainly there in those delicious lattes! Not sure how the food tastes, but it looks and sounds SUPER appetizing (not sure how it stands up to Maureen's though). read more

There's nothing I can say about this place that hasn't been said about it besides it being AMAZING, FUN, DELICIOUS, CREATIVE, OUTSTANDING, AND JUST PLAIN AWESOME! I never knew such a place existed until my best friend invited me to breakfast. Since then I've made an oath to come back any chance I got. As well as bring someone with me who's never been there so they could experience the same euphoric experience I had my first time and every time since. I had the chance to enjoy their pancake quesadilla which was out of this world and a banana & peanut butter ice latte which was also great. Everything thing there looks truly amazing! I've only tried a few things but seeing everyone else's food will have you drooling while you're eating your own. All the waitresses are tremendously sweet! It's not a huge restaurant but that's what makes it so special and add's to the quaintness of it. It's nestled in the heart of Stonybrook which adds a great feel to the experience. I've been to this coffee shop a few times, and overall, I'd say it's a great place to eat. It's great for college students (like myself) who want to get a good off-campus bite, but it also seems to attract families and older couples. It's a great atmosphere for just about anyone. Crazy Beans has a vast array of coffees and drinks, including ideas for different drinks you can create using different flavors. They also offer gluten free options. Their food is affordable and tasty. I ordered the Crescent City Crabby Melt, and even though it wasn't the best thing I've ever eaten, it was satisfying and tasted fresh. My friends and I also ordered a side of home fries, which was enough for the three of us to split. I also tried the cupcake flavored latte, which was a combination of three different flavors. My biggest tips for Crazy Beans in Stony Brook are to get there before 4 (because that's when their kitchens close) and to make sure you have cash (because they don't accept cards). On a whim me and a couple of my buddies decided to come here for a lunch break. I look at the menu and needed to order something quick that i could eat in class. Honestly i looked at all the menus in the list and none of them had my item that I bought.
