Cornell Inn - Breakfast Room

Cornell Inn

(103 reviews)

In Lenox for a couple of concerts at Tanglewood in July 2026, my wife and I stayed two nights. I…read moresplurged on the Lady Cicely Grand Suite, booked online, it was not cheap, but we were not disappointed. The Cornell Inn is simply and easily the cleanest place I've ever stayed in the world (and I've stayed in 5 star hotels like Intercontinental Istanbul, Intercontinental Los Angeles, Ritz Carlton Central Park South, and Trump International NYC). The suite was large and elegant and comfortable and everything in it was absolutely spotless. The staff were kind and helpful, eager to swap out the complimentary bottle of cabernet (?) for my wife's preferred chardonnay, and provide us with several brownies. Breakfasts were very good. I really don't have a single complaint, can't wait to stay here again in the future!

We stayed at the Cornell Inn for one night and had a frightening fire safety incident. We followed…read morethe inn's written instructions for using our room's fireplace, only to have smoke fill the room because the flue wasn't open. With no front desk staff after 8pm, we spent hours trying to manage the situation ourselves. The smoke alarm eventually went off at 2am, waking other guests. The staff member who responded to our emergency call didn't understand the fireplace, and it was another guest, not staff, who suggested calling 911 to check for carbon monoxide. We couldn't settle down until around 4:30am. Even more disappointing was management's response. The next morning, we politely asked for a 30-minute late checkout after being awake most of the night. The executive manager refused, offered no apology or concern for our safety, and instead blamed us for not calling the emergency number sooner. When we suggested having an accessible number for guest questions after hours, she dismissively said they didn't want guests calling to ask for ice. Basic safety, responsive staff, and a little empathy should be the minimum. Mistakes happen, but management's unwillingness to acknowledge what went wrong or take responsibility was unacceptable. A simple apology would have gone a long way. Can't recommend staying here.

BEWARE of this Hotel and its unprofessional, and downright cruel GENERAL MANAGER - LAURA RUMMEL!!!!…read more We had a terrible encounter here at this Hampton Inn with Laura Rummel, General Manager. I would steer clear of this hotel and go elsewhere if you are able to as she is unprofessional, rude and condescending. I have been a loyal Hampton Inn customer for decades and a DIAMOND HILTON member, and have never in my life had a negative interaction with any hotel personnel, particularly a General Manager! This is my first complaint, but I felt it was quite necessary to help others to avoid this abuse. My 5 year old daughter attempted to get a paper cup off of the counter during breakfast, and was scolded by Ms. Rummel and told no that she could not get a cup. My daughter came back crying hysterically. I approached Ms. Rummel and asked what she had said to my daughter since she was crying, and was told that she told her NO bc she was "messing up her teas." I looked over and saw 2 tea bags that were somewhat out of place. I asked my daughter to clarify what had happened, and she stated that she was trying to get the cup and the teas got caught on her sweater, so she was placing them back. I went back to discuss this misunderstanding with Ms. Rummel, who was adamant that my daughter was out to mess up the coveted teabags here. So, I asked her name and explained to her that I thought she was unkind for making my daughter cry, and that it was odd that she did not feel badly or even attempt to apologize for making a child cry. **She blatantly told me that SHE WAS NOT GOING TO APOLOGIZE, and that my daughter should not be messing up her teabags and that she should not have been unaccompanied (mind you - 6 ft from where we were eating breakfast in a clear vantage point of me). I informed her I would be making a complaint with Hampton and she told me she "DID NOT CARE, BECAUSE AS THE GENERAL MANAGER - ALL COMPLAINTS COME TO HER ANYWAYS." After I told her I would be calling corporate, she continued to double down on this statement multiple times that it didn't matter, since the complaints come to her.** So, BEWARE if you choose this hotel that clearly Ms. Rummel is an unhinged individual with a power complex, and will not care about your well-being, and, in fact, overtly try to to make you feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. Save yourself some frustration and mental anguish and stay at another Hilton property, or at least until Ms. Rummel has been replaced.

This hotel is still pretty new and you can tell when you stay here. We had a room at the end of…read morethe hall on the second floor which was nice as it helped minimize the sound of other guests walking around. Bathroom had a single sink but had a large counter space which was great. Shower was HUGE and clean. Room itself wasn't very large but if you're just using it to sleep or relax then it should be just fine for 2 people. TV wasn't anything massive but it was a smart tv so you can link your youtube/netflix account to it which was something I haven't seen in a hotel before. Probably the only real hitch was the AC unit. I don't know if it was because we were at the end of the hallway (thus our window was situated next to the vents) but when the AC unit kicked on it was pretty noticeably loud (sounded like a mini jet engine if that makes sense). Fortunately the bed was on the opposite wall so it didn't disturb us (well, it didn't disturb me anyways since i'm a heavy sleeper). Fitness room was adequate for the size of the hotel (only people of the same room allowed in there at a time). Reservations are needed to use the pool. The outdoor seating area is available to all guests and looked quite nice since it had an outdoor fire pit and grill. Overall quite pleased!

The staff proved to be uniformly pleasant people, always helpful. The public spaces -- the dining areas and especially the recently refurbished parlor rooms which are stocked with drinks and hors d'oeuvres in the late afternoon -- are a genuine delight. So much is good here. But we have given the inn four stars not five because of the disappointing breakfasts. We were served very overcooked casseroles, overcooked scrambled eggs, grossly undercooked bacon and rather sad bits of yogurt. They really need some improvements here. That said -- and we know it requires us to be honest -- we would definitely look forward to returning with fingers crossed for some improvements in the breakfasts. And yes, 33 Main is on the pricey side, but it's high season for Tanglewood -- a very short drive away -- and given the quality here we think it's well worth considering a splurge.

PROS - Ren is a…read moresuperstar. Busy summer weekend, but this leader shined throughout our stay. Friendly, professional, smart and charismatic, we are taking about a top talent in a tough industry. The Inm is beautiful, well appointed and located in a prime location. Park your car and walk everywhere, including Tanglewood if you are so inclined (30 minutes each way). The standard rooms are TINY, but the grounds, lobby, fire pit and front porch give you no reason to be in iyour room other than sleep or shower. Speaking of which, you will laugh out loud when you see how small the bathrooms are in the regular rooms. The bathroom photos on their website are not the bathroom you will get in a standard king. You will get a phone booth with water. CONS Breakfast is a moon launch, get this poor girl some help. Put out a self serve pot of coffee with to go cups for early risers and leave it out all morning. She will love this idea, trust me. Eggs and toast were ice cold when they finally arrived, so we skipped breakfast the next morning as she was buried yet again. The bar was completely overwhelmed both nights with a large wedding and made it near impossible for anyone else to get a drink. We are talking 20 minutes due to the complexity of their cocktail program. Like everyone else, he was very hospitable, but cannot handle the bar stools, plus all of the dining room and outside cocktails on his own. Get him some help. The Inn would also benefit from an ice water station, especially on these scorching hot days. Your bartender and servers will also thank you. Lastly and the real reason for dropping a star is that we were checked into a dirty room at 3:30pm. At 600.00 per night, this is a fatal flaw and should have never happened. Never.

Blantyre - Best room service ever

The building is really beautiful and at any other time we would have made use of the beautiful common spaces indoors and not just enjoyed our room and the grounds. The room was impeccably cleaned and staff were attentive to needs that came up during the visit. The absolute stand out was our room service meal set in front of the wood-burning fireplace in our room. They came up with a table, offered us options for chairs, had all of the food wrapped in plastic and covered in warming lids, but done in a way that did not interfere with even the delicate plating details. The portions were substantial and food quality was outstanding. They even provided gluten-free options that went above and beyond to accommodate an allergy. I wish I could give 4.5 because there were some minor areas for improvement, but I will round up given COVID was likely a contributing factor.

The staff is obnoxious rude & pretentious. We arrived with are 2 Small Shitizs just as we had before. The hotel was aware we were bringing 2 service dogs.. First night they would not allow us in the dining room with dogs but they had no room for us to dine outside! They wanted us to sit alone in a room by ourselves & have dinner ! I objected. We finally agreed we would have dinner in the bar alone . At least it was part of the dining area. To get to the pool area you need to drive your car. They didn't like where my husband parked our car. No biggie. I think the Pool Boy could have handled it. All he had to do is ask us to move it. Next thing we know the manger of the Hotel comes to the pool standing over us suit & all. After announcing his titled he ordered my husband to move the car. It was definitely a reprimand for his bad behavior. Of course he moved the car. When we returned to our room there was a hand written note offering to serve us dinner in our room that evening. I called the desk to ask about this & was told this was a new thing they were offering ! We ate dinner in town that evening.. I could go on & on with our crimes & misdemeanors. I spoke to this TIGHT A.S JERK when we were checking out . I asked if the General Manger was available. He has a total passive aggressive personality. I expressed my disappointment about the weekend. He went through the list list & more of the above. Wait a minute , aren't I the quest. Isn't this his job ? Doesn't it come with the territory! If he was so disapproving of us he could have asked us to checkout. He didn't do that though. He wanted our $3900. He may not have like us but he liked our money.
