The location is great: Two blocks from the center of Lenox and just 1 1/2miles from Tanglewood. But with no full time staff, it seems like an absence of attention. The grounds aren't cared for, the porches aren't clean, the used breakfast dishes just pile up in the bin. Our room had all the checklist items expected in an inn - bed, desk, shower - yet it wasn't homey; a chain hotel room would be more comfortable than this. Our particular room was on the 3rd floor, which in this hotel is a euphemism for the attic, and the stairs up were challenging for seniors like us. No dresser, no shelf, no place in the bathroom to place your toiletries. This hotel is not bad; it's just not particularly delightful. Conclusion: meh. read more

I booked a last minute stay at The Constance because I was attending an event in the area and snow was expected. While my event was canceled, I had a lovely time staying at The Constance. Staff were friendly and welcoming when I checked in. I was offered assistance with my luggage (my room was on the 3rd floor), but I chose to take my bags myself. The dining area is open to guests throughout their stay, with coffee, tea, hot cocoa, water, and snacks gratis. The common room had lots of seating. Other guests were using it while I read and everyone was respectful and kind. My room was a wonderful surprise. Room 303 is in the front corner in the top floor and is spacious. The room is outfitted with antique furniture, which is a really nice touch. My bed was comfortable and there was even a sound machine for sleeping, just like the one I have at home. In the morning, my shower was delightful, with plenty of hot water and great water pressure. The continental breakfast (included) was available 7-9am. There were boxes of cereal, granola, yogurt, bagels, croissants, hard boiled eggs, and fresh fruit. In addition to coffee and tea, there were also orange and cranberry juices. I don't leave negative reviews often, but our experience at The Constance (Lenox Collection) really deserves one. The room felt old and uncared for -- dirty carpet, creaking bed, and outdated furniture. We heard running water through the wall all night, which made sleeping nearly impossible. The bathroom was so tiny it was hard to move around, and the breakfast options were minimal and unappetizing. But the worst part? We had to cut our stay short because my husband got COVID, and the hotel wouldn't refund a dime. Their two-week cancellation policy has no exceptions, even for serious illness. No offer to rebook, no credit, no empathy. Just "policy" according to the manager who blamed The Owners. Save your money and your sanity--there are better places to stay in Lenox. read more

I booked my first stay at the Constance and it was the worst experience I've ever had staying away from home . There was a very scary experience that occurred for me at night there feeling unsafe, frozen and paralyzed in the bed because of noises and constant pacing outside my door .. went on for a very long time ..and the worst part was that it was not handled well at all by the staff. Some of the front desk listened to my story well but they told me twice they would call me back and never did , and the third person I talked to was nothing but dismissive and had no empathy for the situation . Instead she chose to sort of put the blame on me because I was getting upset ,but that was because I was waiting for two phone calls back that I never got and she wouldn't listen to me . read more

Terror in the Night Not only will my wife and I not be staying at The Constance again, we will never stay at any inn anywhere. Our terrifying experience has opened our minds. We think now, "who are these strange guests and service people I'm suddenly sleeping in a strange house with?" Our first night, we awoke around 2:15am to the sounds of someone pacing outside our bedroom. And I heard what sounded to me like chanting in a foreign language. And it sounded as if, every time the man reached our door, he hissed behind the door. That's what it sounded like to me. But whether this stranger was singing along to some music he was listening to with headphones on, or chanting, doesn't really matter (perhaps it was some type of cultural chant I'm not familiar with). He didn't have to be saying anything. The fact remains that someone was pacing outside our room in the middle of the night, for at least 45 minutes, in some unfamiliar inn with old flimsy doors and flimsy locks, and we had no idea who it possibly could've been, and it was terrifying. We thought: Why would a guest be out there? Is he crazy? Why isn't the front desk stopping him? The front desk is straight down hall. There must not be someone at the front desk. Has someone broken into the house? Worse, the inn keeps all the room keys in an unlocked door right under the stairs (we passed it every time we went to our room). So whoever it was could easily get in. We called the front desk (even though I'm thinking that, if someone is at the front desk, they would stop whoever is pacing outside our room, wouldn't they?) There was no answer. And eventually, trying to figure out what to do, too scared to make noise, the pacing and chanting/singing not stopping, we decided the only safe thing to do was to call the police, as confronting a stranger pacing outside your room in the night seemed too dangerous. When the cop came, and we discovered the front desk assistant was actually the one responsible, (though at the time he lied to us and said it wasn't him even though it clearly was, and this was later confirmed by management via the cameras), I was furious, but we had to keep the peace. We were staying in this inn for the next two nights, and we were frankly afraid to do much. He seemed mentally ill and possibly dangerous (not saying he was, just what it seemed like to us). How do you demand a police report against a person who'll be watching over the place where you sleep? After the cop left, about five minutes later, the front desk assistant quietly knocked on our door. "Front desk, " he said, in a deadened tone, astoundingly different from the tone he used with us and the police just five minutes ago. (It's just about 4am now.) We didn't answer. Did we hear that right? He knocked again. "Front desk," he said. "What do you want?" I asked loudly. He wanted to know the exact number we called for the front desk. My wife told him the numbers, and then he left. It was creepy as can be. We hardly slept that night. It ruined our day. And we were uneasy the rest of the trip. After we checked-out, now that we were safe, we called numerous times to complain. We were told we would get a call back and did not. I finally got someone to connect me with Elizabeth, the General Manager. She was immediately dismissive. "Yeah, he was listening to music and singing," in the most shockingly dismissive tone imaginable. You would think she would say, "oh my god, someone was pacing outside your room at 2:30am for 45 minutes! How frightening that must've been for you, I'm so sorry, let me see how we can rectify this..." No, instead she dismissed it. "He was singing and didn't realize how loud he was being," she said. A stranger was pacing outside our bedroom, terrifying us, and that's all you can say? Do not be fooled by Elizabeth replies to 1-star reviews. Though told we were refunded "for that night," we were not. They only refunded the $100 cleaning fee, which they give back if the room is clean anyway. The ordeal frankly left us more stressed after our vacation. You can confirm any of this with the Lenox police department. Ask about a call they received at 2:30am in the early morning hours of July 31st, 2025, about a strange man pacing outside a guest's bedroom. Be safe. read more

No AC and no Tv. We had to climb 3 flights of stairs also. Not what I imagined. We also had to register at another bed and breakfast and then walk to this one. The bathroom had someone else's hair on the mirror and blow dryer. The bathroom had dust caked on the light fixture too. read more

There is nobody in at Constance Inn. Actually, we learned that The Lenox Group who bought these unique Berkshire Inns was not even located in Lenox; They are in Canada. While we received no less than 6 e -mail auto confirmations and welcome messages prior to checking in, once we needed a human touch there was none. There was insufficient water pressure and lukewarm water in the morning. When we reached out as instructed , via text ,we received a message from a robot who had no idea which location we were staying at. We ventured downstairs and could find only 1 young woman who was she was was trying to manage the dining room and the phones by herself. She had no support. She seems overwhelmed and lonely : I would be too. These lapses are not explained solely by the Covid pandemic. The familiar Berkshire warmth was lacking. The former Rookwood Inn was now a renovated showpiece wired with this droning, assaultive club house music that competed with our quiet Summer Sunday morning coffee on the porch. We couldn't find anyone to stop it , but, we were able to locate the source: an I -Home device hiding under a rocking chair. We pulled the plug. All the fancy devices , brand named shampoos don't impress especially if there's not enough hot water pressure to rinse them out. We recent stayed at the Rookwood for 3 nights while attending a series of concerts at Tanglewood. We were part of a group of at least 12. I do believe this must have been a beautiful inn at one time. It is definitely run down and in serious need of repair. There was paint peeling from the walls, dirty grout and old dusty fabrics. During our 3 day stay the owner and staff seemed extremely remote and aloof. There was very little attention paid to customers. Finally - the breakfasts were terrible. Poorly cooked pancakes, partially cooked or burnt entrees. Nothing was served at the table. It was a rush to the small serving table. This was very unlike other B and B experiences we've had. read more

The day before thanksgiving my husband wound up in HOSPITAL with pneumonia & we were unable to travel,, we were willing to send her discharge papers as proof of this situation,,No empathy whatsoever,, Instead of allowing us to come at another time,,, she kept our money,, She gave us instead a joke of a credit for 50% of our room & charged a cancellation fee ,,, & it had to be used within 3 months,, needless to say we had no intention of ever staying there after illness wasn't a valid reason to cancel,, read more

We had the most comfortable and relaxing stay at this beautifully refurbished inn. The bed was divine and we nearly overslept and missed checkout - woke up with 30 minutes to spare! We enjoyed speaking with everyone that worked there and you could tell that there is a level of care and detail that is put into the guest experience. We had a malfunctioning shade that was addressed and fixed within minutes if our mentioning it to the front desk. We hope to rerun someday soon for another visit - highly recommended! I am not usually a fan of bed and breakfasts, but this one is really nice. It's the perfect location (location, location) for a visit to Lenox and Tanglewood, and the innkeeper made dinner reservations for us and gave lots of good tips about what to do in the area. The use of the living room and the screened porch made the B&B feel like a home. The breakfast was not impressive but was very friendly to vegetarians and was certainly ample. Came here for my birthday weekend and it was a wonderful time. Staff was very welcoming and made our stay very comfortable. Amy the owner made sure I had a gluten free breakfast in the morning and that just made my day!! She even prepared my boyfriend a NON gluten free breakfast so she pretty much went out of her way for us. :-) Our room was one of the smaller ones with no tv but the accommodations were very nice for the price. We got to check out some of the other rooms there and they were gorgeous! (So if you have the money to splurge, these rooms are worth it. The views and the decor are very quaint and elegant.) Since we didn't have a tv, we entertained ourselves at night with some board games they had in the living room area. The Bed and Breakfast is one block away from the village that has great restaurants, antique shops and our favorite...the yogurt store! We went biking and rented them from a place called Arcadian Shop. Maybe a mile away. We also went to the Norman Rockwell museum and had a nice time. All and all...a romantic, relaxing, quiet weekend away from the city was what we wanted and we got it here in Lenox, Massachusetts! read more

It looked so inviting online. A bit expensive, but in mid-season, we knew it wouldn't be a bargain.. Expecting one of those quaint New Englandy Berkshire Inns, we were greater with a dark, dour, vaguely foreboding, musty Victorian that was more of a faded time piece than charming bed-and-breakfast. I half expected twin girls on tricycles in the hallway. The wrong entry code for the front door didn't help but was quickly corrected.. The sitting areas were dark and not particularly well appointed, the interior design more of an afterthought--if any thought at all. The paint and wallpaper up the stairs wore visible scars (of guests beating a hasty retreat?). Entering the room, we were pleased the air-conditioning worked. As for the rest of it, the promised 'antiques' were more akin to the bedroom furniture you grandmother or great-grandmother kept. As for the rest of the decor, this must have been the inspiration for Oscar Wilde's quip that either the wallpaper must go or he would (he did). The fire alarm going off at full tilt to wake us was sort of good news--the emergency systems worked. (It was a false alarm, thankfully). However, it diminished any romantic ardor we would have liked to start the weekend with. Then again, at least the alarm didn't happen in the middle of any 'dilecto flagrante'. The internet connection was weak-don't expect streaming on your devices.. We passed on the free breakfast a block and a half walk away. That was our call, but would it have killed the place to at least put out some coffee? The place does offer good location, walking distance to restaurants and artsy galleries. Good things: The Inn is a cute and cozy building with period furnishing and the innkeeper is a nice woman. The breakfast was simple but tasty. Bad things: Its definitely overpriced (probably because of the location in Lenox). The rooms are tiny for what they cost. The walls are paper thin (we heard the television in the next room very clearly). They advertised an afternoon snack extensively, which ended up consisting of cheap store bought baked goods. My girlfriend and I love staying here! While the off-season rates are a bit cheaper, there is more going on around town during the summer. Tanglewood is nearby, and seeing James Taylor there is a yearly tradition. The inn-keeper Amy is wonderful, she is attentive and responds to your special requests. The Rookwood is laid-back, has lots of quiet areas to read, relax, whatever. They serve food, afternoon tea, etc. Its a great way to enjoy a weekend in the berkshires. You can probably save some money by staying at a budget motel, but the service and ambience will pale in comparison. read more

This is a magical place and in the beautiful town of Lenox, Mass. My now new wife and I wanted a special place to go and get married in the Berkshires. We searched on the web from a number of places including this one and decided on The Rookwood Inn. It was a wonderful weekend in Lenox, Mass at the Rookwood. We wanted a small place for our very small wedding and the Rookwood Inn was the perfect place. From my first inquiry to our final goodbye Amy was prompt and exceptionally helpful. Our bilingual service in the well appointed living room was beautifully handled without a hitch. Thank you Amy! The Rookwood Inn is beautiful inside and out. Our room was very spacious, comfortable and very clean. The three large windows gave the room excellent light and the fireplace added a very romantic ambiance. The breakfast was fantastic. We had a custom made breakfast one day and a buffet style on the second day. Both were delicious. The choices were varied and very good. The service was fast, friendly and unobtrusive. The 24 hour tea and coffee and the snacks at tea time were a nice touch. The inn is located very close to the center of Lenox and walking distance to many shops and many very good restaurants. Amy was very helpful with recommending restaurants and making reservations. Good WIFI and convenient parking were two more reasons we were glad we chose the Rookwood Inn. Thanks again Amy. read more

Great location. Walk to all in Lenox. Owner and staff are very hospitable. However place is in need of repair. For the money we've stayed in much better accomodations. Rusty dropped ceilings in the bathroom, shower that's falling apart, chipping paint, etc. The fact that the house is so vintage and charming further amplified the disrepair. We had the most romantic, wonderful weekend at the Rookwood Inn. The room was a victorian paradise, with a 4 poster bed, canapy and a roaring fireplace! Breakfast was served at a time that we requested. By the way, the breakfasts are incredibly indulgent, as was the staff. The Innkeeper was there to greet us each morning, with tips about things to do in the berkshires. I loved the fact that we could walk to town from the Inn, shop, have lunch and visit a gallery. We found the inn warm and friendly yet private at the same time. The fact that it was less than a 3 hour ride from NYC made it a great choice. Love, love, love this place. It's quaint, very well kept, and the staff make the whole experience incredible. Amy the inkeeper knows everything about the whole area - so she is the BEST resource to know where/when to go either with kids or as a couple. We've gone here at least a half dozen times in the last few years, and we've even taken our toddler. They had a port-a-crib ready for her, gave her her own breakfast which she loved, had a high chair ready, and just treated her like a princess! And she definitely felt like she was in a castle! We've stayed in 3 different rooms and have loved all of them. We've never had any complaints! I'm vegetarian and my husband is an avid meat eater and they always make amazing meals for us! Also - they don't let your coffee get cold! My husband went out to change a diaper, by the time he came back, they had decided he needed new coffee ;) - they are just great. read more

A nice place to stay because it is close to town. They have nice staff and excellent waitresses(especially for breakfast). The room I stayed in was good because it was behind closed doors but it had a flaw. The tv was in the guest room(not the main room) as it usually is.
