The owners, Joanne and Jim Conroy, could not have been more welcoming, arranging the Rose Room with an extra cot for my youngest daughter and serving us an absolutely delicious breakfast each day. We feasted on fresh fruit and orange juice, coffee/tea, yogurt with granola and home made nut pancakes, quiche, and just out of the oven muffins. The conversation with various guests from countries like Belgium and Germany was wonderful. A rolling outdoor lawn was a fabulous spot for a picnic lunch. All in all, we can't wait to come again to visit local favorites such as Naumkeag, The Divine Mercy Chaplet, Tanglewood, The Rockwell Museum, and so much more. The musical ambiance at breakfast is also reminiscent of my own playlists, with a mix of classical, new age, and soft instrumental listening. The historic inn retains much of its charm with original details throughout - truly a step into New England country charm. It was also great to see some of the pieces of the schools history maintained and fun reading all the notes left on the chalk boards by previous guests. The staff proved to be uniformly pleasant people, always helpful. The public spaces -- the dining areas and especially the recently refurbished parlor rooms which are stocked with drinks and hors d'oeuvres in the late afternoon -- are a genuine delight. So much is good here. But we have given the inn four stars not five because of the disappointing breakfasts. We were served very overcooked casseroles, overcooked scrambled eggs, grossly undercooked bacon and rather sad bits of yogurt. They really need some improvements here. That said -- and we know it requires us to be honest -- we would definitely look forward to returning with fingers crossed for some improvements in the breakfasts. And yes, 33 Main is on the pricey side, but it's high season for Tanglewood -- a very short drive away -- and given the quality here we think it's well worth considering a splurge.

The Cornell Inn is simply and easily the cleanest place I've ever stayed in the world (and I've stayed in 5 star hotels like Intercontinental Istanbul, Intercontinental Los Angeles, Ritz Carlton Central Park South, and Trump International NYC). The suite was large and elegant and comfortable and everything in it was absolutely spotless. The staff were kind and helpful, eager to swap out the complimentary bottle of cabernet (?) for my wife's preferred chardonnay, and provide us with several brownies. Breakfasts were very good. I really don't have a single complaint, can't wait to stay here again in the future!

Every room has a patio/balcony where you can sit out and have coffee, wine or read. The innkeepers were so nice & have thought of just about everything. From bathrobes to dog biscuits. It's non-contact check-in, checkout & breakfast. Breakfast is left in your room the day before. Milk/juice, yogurt, fruit/scone or quiche, pastries. And really good coffee/machine - from the local coffee roaster. The grounds are beautiful with gardens. There is a short path in back into the woods - but as John (innkeeper) said - beware of poison ivy. There was also a neat trail nearby that John told us about, with unique sculptures to discover along the way.
