Doug and Jim go above and beyond with their hospitality always with a smile and friendly gesture. Jim's breakfast desserts are phenomenal and the Happy Hour with live music is superb with Doug and Jim both lending their voices to entertain guests in collaboration with a pianist that truly brings back the concept of Parlor music into the 21st century. The musical ambiance at breakfast is also reminiscent of my own playlists, with a mix of classical, new age, and soft instrumental listening. The historic inn retains much of its charm with original details throughout - truly a step into New England country charm. We return to the Devonfield Inn frequently. It checks all the boxes: lovely accommodations, beautiful grounds and delicious breakfasts, all within easy reach of Lenox and Stockbridge. We had the most incredible weekend here!! My (now) husband and I eloped here and Doug officiated our wedding! It was just the two of us and Doug and Jim made us feel so special and cared for. They are so thoughtful and kind!! They think of everything and are so flexible with accommodating your needs! The food was out of this world. There are not enough positive words to say to express how much we loved our stay. We cannot wait to return! Our stay was during COVID and we felt so comfortable and safe here. Beautiful, historic, and brimming with colonial allure. Set on a sprawling 36 acres of land, you will find plenty of outdoor activities such as hiking, snow-shoeing, and crosscountry skiing to keep you busy during your winter stay, and even more adventures to embark on during the warmer months with guided kayak and canoe tours! Our only complaint about the room was that we didn't have more time to spend in it! If you took the time to read this lengthy review, I appreciate it. We stayed here in Phase 2 and couldn't be happier with our getaway. The inn is adorable and very clean and the owners were warm and helpful. Safety seemed like their first priority and after three months of quarantine we really appreciated that they made us feel like we were the only guests (which, when you are trying to avoid people is the best.) Also as a huge bonus...the pool was open! We extended our stay. Who gets to visit the Berkshires in June when there are not mobs of people around?! If you come here, you won't regret it. read more

We returned to the Lee/ Stockbridge area after being away for about 5 years, and, just as with our last visit to the area, we once again stayed at the Devonfield Inn. We loved our experience 5 years ago, and it was a no-brainer to return, except....we found it to be an even better experience! The new owners (new to us anyway!), Doug and Jim were a revelation! They had made numerous changes and upgrades to this beautiful inn, and, despite having to deal with the mandated COVID restrictions, they carried off our three-day stay with flying colors. We found them both to be highly personable, amenable to handling our few special requests, and full of recommendations for local "must-sees" and "to-dos" that enhanced our visit immeasurably. The visit had more the feel of visiting family or long-time friends---OK, better than visiting family (LOL!), and conversations flowed freely. Our three-night stay just flew by........ The provided breakfasts deserve special mention. The food was plentiful, cooked to order, and absolutely delicious, with much of it being from Jim's family recipes. I could spend paragraphs doing descriptions, but that would not do the job. Probably the best thing you can do is visit their website and see for yourself what the Devonfield is all about......and BTW, the Fender acoustic guitar near the piano is not just a prop, It was actually in tune and ready to play! **Elopement wedding dream that came true** Doug and Jim are unbelievable hosts, and their beautiful bed and breakfast inn was the perfect place to have an elopement wedding!My wife and I stayed in their "Roosevelt" room. It was very clean and fully stocked with all the amenities that you would need at arrival. When you first walk in the room you'll first notice the breathtaking view overseeing acres and acres of beautiful landscaped land and gardens (and of course the foliage during October). Our cabin was spacious and beautifully decorated, and it had a built in hot tub. Doug was extremely generous and he was the perfect justice of the peace for our ceremony. Breakfast in the morning was superb! They served us delicious homemade eggs, waffles, various cakes, toast w/ butter/jams, sausages, fresh fruits, juices, coffee and so much more. My husband and I booked a last minute getaway from NYC to the Devonfield Inn and it was exactly what we needed! The inn is beautiful with clean, spacious and comfortable rooms. Masks are required in the inn and they have a thorough room cleaning process during this time with hand sanitizer throughout the inn. We felt comfortable with our health as a top priority. The property is gorgeous and the pool was the highlight of our week. We were able to relax on the lounge chairs and enjoy the water while socially distancing from other guests. We also enjoyed the fire pit and got to have it all to ourselves for a couple nights. The best part was the incredible homemade breakfasts cooked by inn owner Jim. Each day you're given a savory or sweet hot entree choice with coffee, juices, cereal, yogurt w/ granola and a baked bread/coffee cake. Every meal was super delicious and filling! The inn owners Jim and Doug were extremely friendly, accommodating, attentive and helpful. They also offered several yummy restaurant suggestions. We can't say enough good things about them. The rest of the staff was also top notch and made our trip truly enjoyable. I would highly recommend this B&B for anyone looking to get away and enjoy a calm, relaxing stay with 5-star breakfasts. You just don't get service like this anymore. A buddy of mine and his wife are staying here this coming weekend, to celebrate his birthday. So I called requesting to leave a bottle of champagne in their room. The fellow who answered was like sure, we can leave a nice bottle of champagne on ice for when they arrive, the tots charge is $25. I wanted to leave a nicer bottle than that, and I got the sense that wasn't standard practice. He asked what type of premium champagne I wanted, drove into town, found it for me, bought it, and will present it on ice with two glasses for when my friends arrive along with a note from us. The service charge to do all of that? $10! Now seriously - a guy calls up insisting on an expensive bottle of champagne, you have to drive into town, buy it, call him to get his credit card, etc. what would YOU charge me? More than $10. I got married at the Devonfield. My wife and I are not the type for large productions, or a big wedding. We wanted small and intimate. It was important for us to have our families really get to know one another. Doug and Jim provided the perfect setting for us. They made our family and friends feel so welcome and at home. For the two nights we stayed at the Devonfield it felt like we were at our own home with both our families under one roof. Doug married my wife and I out under the birch trees, Jim baked cookies for us all, it was wonderful. Our families spent the late nights next to the fire drinking and getting close, our rooms were impeccable, the Breakfasts were delicious. I cannot stress enough how welcome and comfortable Doug and Jim made us feel on a very stressful day. They helped us with flowers and with a place to eat afterwards, and they allowed us to bring our dog to be apart of the ceremony. They really made a stressful event very easy and stress free. Now every wedding has the unpredictable. Ours was the bride got sick! My wife caught a stomach bug and was sick the entire time! Some might have thought nerves, or having too much fun the night before, but I caught the same thing the very next day. Even with that wrench in the works The Devonfield went above and beyond and it was the best day of my life. I would recommend this Inn to anyone and I would say their event planning and execution is wonderful. We were planning on heading back to the Devonfield for our Anniversary, but we have a little one due any day now and will likely miss it this year. I stay here regularly and cannot say enough wonderful things about my entire experience. I am a very picky hotel/ inn guest so I know what I like. I am also very clean and this place meets all of my standards. The history, the land, the inn, the tranquility is all perfection! I'm lucky to have found this place. Because we live very near the Devonfield Inn, we have never stayed there. We have, however had the occasion to recommend it to friends when our house was "full". They couldn't stop raving about how nice the place was and the two very personable and attentive innkeepers, Doug and Jim. My friend and I only were at the Devonfield for one night but, in that short time, the Devonfield became home! The rooms were lovely, beds very comfortable, and the view beautiful. Doug gave us a tour of the lovely 1800's home and explained its history to us. The pantry was stocked with coffee, tea and the most amazing peppermint chocolate chip cookies. Breakfast the next morning was a delicious spread of fruit, yogurt, cereal...then the fresh-baked muffins and the to-die-for Coconut Cream Pound Cake (still craving this!). E and I bought a Groupon here for a romantic weekend away. We were greeted by the B&B owner's regular back-up, who was incredibly friendly, offered lots of advice about where to eat out at night (all were amazing!), and asked us about our days. The rooms are beautiful, each unique, many with incredible bathrooms and lovely hardwood floors. I think the Groupon rooms were purposefully not the fancier ones, which can be frustrating for regular Groupon users, but we were offered the option of upgrading when we arrived. Overall, a really wonderful weekend away and general experience. Minus 1 star because our "king" bed was actually two twins pushed together. And that isn't the same thing, folks. When my now-wife and I initially planned to elope, we did so with the intent of keeping things simple. When we found this place with an elopement package that included so many things, we knew it would be a great decision. We had no idea what an incredible experience it would turn out to be! The Devonfield Inn is an astonishingly beautiful property bursting with character. From the time you push open the heavy wooden front door, you feel the warmth that emanates from the space. Doug told us all about the cool history of the building as he gave us a tour of the property - we could tell he is incredibly experienced in hospitality. Our room was charming and inviting, with the softest bed sheets and lovely antique everything, even down to the door hardware and bathroom cabinetry. We stayed in the Collins Suite, which had a beautiful canopy bed and a whirlpool tub. The Inn is located just a short walk from downtown Lee (and the walk is past a country club that overlooks the mountains), so it's a great place to park the car and unwind. And when we felt like adventuring, the Appalachian Trail was only a 10-minute drive away! If we didn't' feel like driving out there, the property is set on 32 acres of varied landscape - Doug has made a lovely path through the meadow in the backyard that leads to a picnic area, and an enchanting "Wilderness Path", which winds back and forth through the woods and makes you feel like you're wandering through The Shire (it also makes for gorgeous picture-taking opportunities). Every morning starts with a truly spectacular 3-course breakfast! Jim is an absolute alchemist with pastry - I have never, ever, ever had crumb cake so fresh and warm and fluffy and light and delicious! Same for the mains - they change every morning, and we got to choose from two options, sweet or savory, and we each ordered the opposite so we could try everything they offered. Every dish was imaginative, incredibly delicious, and just such a perfect way to start every day. We cannot say enough how much we appreciate Doug's officiating of our wedding. We eloped in October, in the time of COVID - it was the two of us, we had no guests in attendance. He is so personable and so incredibly professional, and his emphatic and heartfelt delivery really made us feel like we were being married by a family member. We could not have imagined how incredible a moment it would be, standing among the four tall birch trees, with all the leaves falling around us, multicolored mountains in the background. It was magic! All the while, flowers were totally taken care of (included in the elopement package, and Christy had all of one small text exchange with the florist, Maureen, who gave us a bouquet and boutonniere that looked precisely as we wanted it), and they were super helpful to our photographers and hairdresser in helping them set up. They had a great list of local wedding team professionals to choose from for all sorts of services if you don't have one already lined up yourself. On the date of our wedding, it just so happened that they were hosting a small outdoor, socially-distanced concert - which turned out to be a really amazing bonus! We decided to have our ceremony before the concert, and what a wonderful thing it was to be introduced by Doug to the small local crowd as husband and wife in a time when we didn't want to put our families at risk for traveling. Just another example of how incredibly thoughtful they are as hosts. My wife and I even decided to have a "first dance" on the last song! Included in the package is a $100 voucher toward any restaurant in the area, and there are a lot of amazing options. Doug and Jim seem to know just about everyone around! We had an incredible experience at an intimate place Doug had suggested - he really knows the area! It was so nice to have dinner taken care of on our wedding night - it was a nice touch to the experience! That night, we returned to our room to find a chilled bottle of sparkling wine and chocolate-covered strawberries, along with an incredibly thoughtful and personal surprise gift that neither of us were expecting! I would say what it is, but I would not want to spoil the surprise for anyone else! Doug and Jim TRULY illustrate what separates a Bed and Breakfast from a simple hotel. Not only is it a perfect wedding spot - we will likely be back for anniversaries and, well, just-because! My wife and I stayed a Thursday and Friday night in December. The Inn was built in 1800 as a (very large) private home and it has been modernized with much of the original charm remaining, such as wide-board floors. Our room was excellent with a very comfortable bed, a TV, and a radio/cd player. The bath was very modern and robes were provided. There was no noise audible from the couple in the adjacent room. The living rooms downstairs are very comfortable, as is the breakfast room. The breakfasts, included, were large and excellent. Coffee and cookies were always available and there was a selection of liqueurs in the living room. The owner-hosts, Jim and Doug, were very cordial, nice and helpful. It was nice to be back where we had our honeymoon 37 years ago (with different owners then). The location is excellent for many of the attractions of the Berkshires, such as Shakespeare & Company and Tanglewood. We, of course, will have no hesitancy in returning. read more

The Devonfield Inn was a pleasure--from start to finish. It's well located--it's central to the Berkshire arts venues, restaurants, museums, and other attractions. They have the basics down pat. The rooms are spacious, clean, well-appointed, and comfortable. The grounds are pastoral, well-tended, and inviting. Breakfast is delicious--a full breakfast each morning with home baked goods, a juice bar, and plenty of hot coffee. The staff is cordial and welcoming. What distinguishes the Devonfield from its competitors? It's Doug and Jim, the innkeepers. They go the extra mile--and then some. It started when I called to make a reservation. Doug got the reservation details, but then took the time to ask if I needed any help with suggestions for restaurants and sightseeing. "Sure--what do you recommend, Doug?" He spent 20 minutes sharing his favorites with me and offered to make reservations. Upon arrival, we had a gracious introduction to the inn, its facilities for guests, and an overview of the history of the inn, which at one time served as a Royal Palace--home to Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands during World War II. During our stay, Doug and Jim mingled unobtrusively with the guests. They asked, with sincere interest, about dinner the night before, the previous night's performance at Tanglewood, and how the museum visits went. Both are warm, sincere, and friendly. We felt as if we were invited guests at a country house weekend. We left feeling as if we'd made new friends. The Devonfield is something very special. The Devonfield Inn is a beautiful property. The rooms were nice, well maintained, and clean. The bathrooms were a good size and the towels were very soft. The down stairs common areas were elegant and had fires lit nightly, which was a nice touch. The breakfast was delicious and offered many choices. They had a continental portion with yogurt, granola, baked apples, delicious fresh baked ham, and Boston coffee cake. For the entree they offered omelettes with fresh baked croissants. The food was very flavorful and fresh. The coffee, on the other hand, was very bitter. I'd honestly recommend they serve another brand. However, the inn keepers were okay hence the two stars. I booked our trip through Travelzoo.com and for some reason the website did not give Bruce my email address. So he called me and left a message asking for my email, arrival time, and traveling companion's name. I called back leaving a message with my information. Then I called him a week before our stay asking if everything was all set. He said he was driving and sounded annoyed. He said he was pulling over to write down my, aforementioned, information. This was now the second time I told him. Then on the day of our arrival, he and his assistant both called me in the morning, each leaving a message that they never heard back from me about my aforementioned information . I called Bruce back and talked to him telling him I did talk to him the week prior. Oh yes, he said, my assistant must not have gotten that information?!? Upon arriving, they had a letter written out stating that they tried to call me several times and never heard back from me, but here was my key... it was very annoying that they had yet to figure that out. Then, upon showing us the property the inn keeper mentioned about three or four times out loud that we had used a Travelzoo coupon and were getting a discounted rate. Clearly we knew that. I'm not sure why he had to keep telling us we were getting the "deal of the century". It started making me feel uncomfortable, like our "cheap" business was undesired even in the dead season. read more

Recently visited Devonfield through a groupon deal and had an absolutely wonderful weekend away. I don't usually write reviews but we had such a pleasant experience at Devonfield and in the Town of Lee that I thought I should share for anyone else considering a trip to the Berkshires in the future. The owners were very friendly and helpful. They provided great advice on what do to and see in the area along with great restaurant recommendations (as well as taking care of reservations for us one evening). The rooms were clean and spacious and we didn't feel cramped at all with the other guests in the house. The breakfasts were outstanding. I wish I could eat that well every morning! While there was plenty to do in the area, sitting on the adirondack chairs overlooking the property with the complimentary bottle of wine and chocolates is my favorite memory of the weekend! read more

This was my 3rd or 4th time at the Devonfield. The reason I choose the Devonfield is because it has bedrooms with a wood burning fireplace. The beautiful house, property and fireplace make up for the lack of adequate heat in the bedroom and no heat at all in the bathroom. The problem with the Devonfield is the Inn Keeper and a lack of respect for his guests, This was demonstrated when he called me at 9:45 pm (waking me and my guest up) and scolded me for using too much wood, and later using all the ice. I used perhaps 15 logs between Friday night and Sunday morning. This was nothing close to what he accused me of. My guest went shopping on Saturday while I stayed in the bedroom using the fireplace and reading. I even brought my own fire starters. Over our 2 night stay we used barely more then 1 bucket of ice. The "bucket" was supplied by the inn and was in the bedroom when we got there. When my cell phone rang at 9:45 pm my guest and I had fallen asleep. As I am becoming awake I am thinking maybe there is some emergency. The Inn Keeper asked me if I took some wood from the living room to use in our bedroom. I said yes. He started to scold me for using all the wood. Being only half awake I just told him I was not aware there was a limit on using the fireplace and if that is the way it is I won't come back. His comments to me included his going on vacation and the price of the room and he did not understand how we can burn all the wood. Frankly, I was shocked at being woken up and scolded and had no interest in discussing it right then and just wanted to go back to sleep. If I lived closer than the 3 hour drive I would have packed up and left. When I met the inn keeper in the morning I intended to clear the air with him in a calm conversation. I had my own theory that most likely some other guests also used wood and ice (heaven forbid) and perhaps he had a bad night and jumped to conclusions blaming me. Everyone makes mistakes. Life is too short to hold grudges. I wanted to make it clear the late night phone was completely out of line. I was expecting an apology for the late night call and the ridiculous accusation. He was having none of it. He emphasized that it was not about the money but was more about how I took the wood without asking. He told me he has bad knees, that he just re-stocked the wood pile since he was leaving on vacation. He went on that his prices were very reasonable and that they were not set up for someone to use more than 4 logs a day. I offered to pay someone $20 to carry additional wood from outside to inside the house. I offered to carry it in myself. I offered to go buy wood in town and bring it in and carry it upstairs. I sincerely was trying to work to a resolution. I emphasized my desire to come to place that respects the customer. I tried to spoon feed him the apology, instead his response was "I don't know I have to speak with my wife. I am very upset about this." I looked at him in utter disbelief. After a few more words, he came around to a very insincere, "We would very much like to have you back." It was really rather bizarre. read more

From the moment we saw this inn on Yelp and called to ask some questions and book a weekend trip, we knew we had made the right choice... The inn keepers, Doug and Jim, are amazing people! You can definitely tell that they love their home, and want to share it with guests... When I first spoke with Doug on the phone about room options, he was extremely friendly, and took the time to really explain the pluses and minuses of each one. After talking it over with Mark, I called back that same day to reserve the John Lloyd for September 20th and 21st. A week before our stay, I phoned them again and had the pleasure to speak with Jim, who was just as friendly, and gave us his personal opinion on restaurants in the area. We ended up going with a couple of his suggestions, and definitely felt he steered us in the right direction. Upon our arrival, Doug offered to show us around the common areas of the inn, explaining its unique architecture and history. He even introduced us to his sister who was visiting from Florida, since much to everyone's surprise, we had also lived within a mile or two of her before we relocated to Boston last year. As for our room, it was absolutely lovely, with its spacious layout, comfortable queen bed, stone fireplace, quiet location, huge closets, private bathroom, and great view of the beautiful property. However, if that room is unavailable at the time of booking, you shouldn't worry, because all of them look just as nice... You really can't go wrong! In fact, the next time we return, we'll probably try a different room. I should also mention that our breakfasts each morning were incredible, with there always being a choice between something sweet or savory, and Jim baked the most delicious banana muffins and apple cake I'd ever had. On Saturday night, we really enjoyed the wine and cheese get-together from 5 to 6:30, with all the guests talking or singing along with Doug to songs played by a pianist... It was super fun! We felt like we were visiting with friends. The whole weekend went terrific, and to be honest, we were sad to say goodbye. We will certainly be back... Probably, next time, with our two daughters and our cute little Cavapoo named Cammi. Our thanks to both Doug and Jim for sharing their home with us, and for being so warm and hospitable. Perfection!!! My boyfriend and I were looking for a romantic overnight for our first trip away. We're both adventurous and agreed that we were looking for a unique experience... beautiful grounds, warm accommodations and personality. Well this B&B is all of that and more!!! The owners are amazing! Minutes after checking in they delivered champagne and strawberries to our room (a surprise to us!) along with brochures and information on local activities. They are attentive and warm. It was a pleasure to have their company when they occasionally dropped in to check on us. The property itself provides plenty to do. The hiking trails, fire pit, sunroom, pool and gardens will keep you busy. We only left for a couple hours to check out live music from a local artist in town, which is only a few minutes away. I can't recommend Devonfield highly enough!! It was such a memorable experience. Like I said, perfection! read more

A excellent hotel and friendly staff members. The rooms were well kept and clean and it has a tennis court and pool(which I didn't go to) However it is an expensive place to stay but fabulous none the less l rate this place 5/5 and highly recommend it to anybody visiting Lenox read more

My wife and I were thrilled with our 3 night/4 day stay last week-it could not have been any better! Breakfast was sublime-who knew that a B&B could make a feast every day, even on a weekday. The "Keepers of the Inn", Ronnie and Bruce Singer, made our stay more memorable with recommendations for dining/skiing/outdoor activities. This was an early 22nd anniversary celebration, and we are hooked. We will definitely be back in the summer and look forward to spending our 23rd anniversary in this magical inn! read more
