I stayed for one night at the Cornell Inn recently after attending an event in the area. The inn was convenient to the historic downtown area, yet away enough to feel a bit quieter and more peaceful. Paige at the front desk was phenomenal! Very friendly at check-in and answered all my questions during my stay, always with a smile on her face. My room was beautiful. I chose room 25 (Vivian) on the 2nd floor of the main house. While it's a small room, it was cozy and quite lovely. I spent some quiet time writing at the desk, and later enjoyed the fireplace with a Duraflame log provided by the inn. They also provide a free bottle of wine, which was waiting for me in my room. The next morning, hot breakfast was waiting in the dining area downstairs. There were several options, which I appreciate having a choice. The pumpkin French toast casserole, seasoned potatoes, and bacon were superb. A great way to start the day! I loved my stay so much that I'm returning in January for another night! read more

Some people visit the Berkshires for the music, but we come for the cozy charm of the Cornell Inn. The experience starts the moment you book your stay, with a wide variety of beautifully appointed rooms to choose from, just pick based on your vibe. From the warm welcome upon arrival--complete with a welcome drink, pastries, and brownies--to the impeccable service, every detail feels well thought out. We were a bit apprehensive when we heard about the new ownership, but thankfully, much of the charm remains intact. The bar now uses a Bartesian machine, which makes good cocktails, though I can see it becoming cumbersome if multiple guests arrive at once. Breakfast is always wonderful with a variety of entrées and sides. My only wish? That they bring back the specialty coffee machine--I miss those cappuccinos! Fortunately, their excellent selection of Harney & Sons teas helps make up for it. Already looking forward to our next visit! read more

This is not getting an excellent for one reason only. Our AC unit was loaded with dust and we had to call housekeeping to come and clean it so that disgusted me quite a bit. The bathroom was small but well appointed and great shower. The breakfast was lovely served outside and all delicious. The complementary bottle of wine was a nice touch as well as the sangria we were served outside when we arrived. Would definitely return but get housekeeping on those AC's. read more

We were so excited for our first trip to the Berkshires and our first Bed and Breakfast stay. We were greeted warmly by staff at our 3:00 check in. At 4:30 there was an accident close by and the entire property, along with most of Lennox, lost power. While this was not the staff's fault, it was clear that there was no plan in place for the guests in an event like this. We took it upon ourselves to check the National Grid outage map and the restoration estimate was 11:00pm. There was one emergency light at the entrance of the house and one at the top of the stairs- the rest of the house was DARK. There were no lights anywhere near our room and no back up generators. There was no offer of flashlights, or any emergency back-up plan. We were told upon check in that the front desk was only staffed until 10pm. We decided it would be safer to find alternative accommodations for the night. We would have been left alone, with no electricity, in the dark. We did not feel safe staying and discussed our options with the young lady at the front desk. She provided the number to their outsourced call center and seemed confident we would be refunded for the whopping hour and a half we used the room. She also stated that we could not be served breakfast the next day anyway because the refrigerators had been down too long and the food may be spoiled. We booked a room at another hotel. Today we received 2 emails from the Cornell stating they would not refund our stay. They have offered a credit for a future stay, but that is not helpful since we have no plans on returning the area any time soon. Do better Cornell Inn. read more

Fraudulent policies We booked this place based on their website saying the rooms were refundable 72 hours in advance. Then a month later the inn refused to refund us even thoughwe cancelled our date within 2 days of booking and weeks before the date!!! We definitely did not book a non refundable but then saw they have a trick on the website where when you go to book it ONLY shows you the non refundable rate so you are fraudulently tricked into booking it and then they use it against you! Heartless Hosts and a Disappointing Experience We had a one-night stay booked here and were really looking forward to it. Then, two days before our arrival, our hot water tank burst and flooded our utility room. I reached out to the Inn, explained everything, and asked if we could simply move our stay one day later. They said no -- because the reservation was "non-refundable." Even though the same room (and plenty of others) were open, they wouldn't budge. They chose to keep our payment rather than show even a bit of flexibility or kindness. It's honestly sad. We've been through a lot lately (including two months out of our home after a burst pipe), and we just needed a little understanding. For a place that markets itself as warm and guest-oriented, their response was anything but. Definitely not the kind of hospitality we expected. We won't be back. read more

My husband and I were in a horrific car accident on the way to the Cornell Inn. We were lucky to walk away. I called the In. From the emergency room to explain our situation. I was pleased to book the Nathaniel Hawthorne Room for one night on short notice while driving cross country with Mr. Crankypants. This room is small but very comfortable due to the attractive and functional furnishing and decor. We stayed in summer so didn't try the fireplace but I bet it makes the room really cozy in cool weather. Bathroom is well appointed but watch for water leaking out of the shower onto the floor. I personally don't care for Keurig coffee but I know many do so there is one if you like. Breakfast was good with attentive service but many items prepared in advance, like the frittata square cut out of a casserole. They do offer espresso drinks which were adequate but not top notch. I don't know quite how to express this, but at times it feels like they are not seeing things from the customer's perspective...we received complicated directions how to find our room, but ended up going up a couple of wrong staircases, nonetheless. I didn't go out on the shared balcony, because there was a confusing sign implying I might accidentally inactivate my room key? It's not relaxing to try to figure out what 5hey mean. Shame, because this could be a 5 star property with attention to these details. read more

A real disappointment. Small, cramped room with a tiny tub-less bathroom which had not one shelf or inch of horizontal surface: no place to put your toothbrush or a bar of soap. The cheapest possible paper products, no amenities (no shower cap, bottled water, etc) and the shampoo and hair products dispensed in the shower were likewise of very low quality. Breakfast choices are very limited (no brewed coffee until 8:00!) and not very good, and putting a large tip-jar on the credenza was tacky beyond belief. I do not recommend. read more

Next morning at breakfast asked for a fried egg - "we don't go off menu" - 10 minutes later a staff member asks the kitchen for the same thing - "oh sure no problem". Final straw - get a $50 charge tacked on to my credit card with no explanation. "House keeping said there's a pillow missing from your room". Absolutely ridiculous. read more

Love, Love, Love and what's not to love about this place! My husband and I stayed here in September and it was one of the best decisions we've made. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted with a glass of peach sangria, which we took out to the garden to sip on. Our room was as spotless as it was well-appointed--a gorgeous room with a balcony and a complimentary bottle of red wine. The Inn is located close to the centre of town, so we were easily able to walk to any of the restaurants for dinner--should you love walking as much as we do. In the morning, we were served a delicious breakfast in their dining room. The staff, all of them, are friendly and wonderful. You must stay here. If you don't, you'll be full of regret and fitful nights, as you'll wish you had picked The Cornell Inn! read more

This Bed and breakfast could have been so much better. My room was ok, but not worth the money I paid. The free drink, was made with cheap ingredients. The free bottle of wine was Meh. The stairs to my room and much of the woodwork needed painting, being chipped, and cracked and in need of some repair. Breakfast was ok, but I had to ask repeatedly for more tea, water.. noone came to check on me. I did ask for fried eggs instead of their breakfast dishes and that request was honored. YAY! The toast was warm bread, and the cappuccino I asked for was horrid. My room was hot, 85 degrees and the air conditioner never really did it's job. It was sweltering all night long and never really kicked in. I was looking forward to a nice stay. This inn did not live up to what they advertised. When I asked for the manager to make it right I was told every decision had to be made by the owners. I have not heard from them yet. I won't be back. read more

This place is stunning. First of all when you arrive you are treated with a welcome drink. Then you step into a heavenly backyard with a waterfall and koi pond. So beautiful!!! Next you visit your room that is so comfortable and welcoming that you sleep the night away in peaceful comfort. Finally the breakfast is delicious and all the staff are an absolute delight. Make sure to visit the world's cutest bar while you are there. Every nook and cranny is filled with artwork and decor that is a delight for the senses. This visit I discovered each room was decorated by a different designer do the each have their own flair. Honestly I can't say enough about this inn. It's our favorite place to stay in the Berkshires. I can't wait to go back on my next visit. read more

Let me start by saying, all the staff at this inn is very friendly and attentive- they go above and beyond to accommodate your needs. The inn is very clean, modern and the breakfast is outstanding. My three stars is based on my room. I had booked a room with a private deck. In the online pic, deck is with a chair and looks to be over looking the trees. Got to my room and WOW, what a shock. Tiny deck and no chairs. Also, the room was right next to a VERY busy, loud road. and over looked the parking lot.When I asked about the chairs for the deck the woman (who was super nice and apologetic) said the deck was too small for chairs. I brought her attention to the online pic and explained that is why I chose the room. Saying I was disappointed is in understatement. I really mentally and physically needed to get away and relax and unwind and wanted to just sit in peace outside for two days. Unfortunately, I do not feel anymore relaxed after being there and feel very annoyed. I should have know better for booking online. I had called left a message to inquire about the room and no one returned my call. I also called numerous times without anyone answering. We even had a surprise visitor as my husband and I were laying in bed a random lady walked in our room from the deck (not really private) but in fairness, no one's fault and my husband and I had a good laugh. I think this is a great Inn if you need a place to sleep for the night, but not for relaxing and rejuvenating. read more

THIS WAS PROBABLY THE WORST NIGHT OF SLEEP WE HAVE EVER HAD AT A HOTEL OR INN. My husband and I booked a night in the Cleopatra Room. When we arrived, our toilet water was running constantly and we attempted (unsuccessfully) to fix it ourselves, but since the noise was loud and the bathroom is basically right next to the bed, we asked for help at the desk. We spoke to the manager and was told the plumber would be there IN THE MORNING. This was at ~5 pm. There was more than enough time to get a plumber in the to fix the problem, but instead we were offered white noise machines and earplugs. My husband and I could not sleep at all with the noise, and he shut off the water but the high pitch tinkling noise left was just as bad. On top of that, there were scurrying rodents in the walls that kept us awake in addition to the toilet noise. THIS WAS PROBABLY THE WORST NIGHT OF SLEEP WE HAVE EVER HAD AT A HOTEL OR INN. The $529.46 we paid for the room was an absolute waste, especially considering a plumber could have easily fixed the problem early enough in the evening for us to get some rest. Seems like they chose to avoid paying a plumber's evening rates instead of putting guest's comfort first. read more

It was a beautiful with gracious hosts. The staff was great. The surroundings were first rate. The room Was extremely nice. And the service, from the sangria at check in to the brownies in the evening along with cognac and ice cream made this a very memorable experience. Breakfast was great with a nice selection and a tranquil outdoor patio setting (indoor also available ). It's a true historic inn brought into the 21st century. Complete with multi-usb ports on each nightstand. Something you don't often get at the typical motel. We highly recommend the Cornell Inn for a gracious and memorable experience. read more

We stayed at The Cornell Inn in early December and couldn't have asked for a better experience. We arrived on the later side and were warmly welcomed by Leanne who treated us more like family then guests checking in. The greeting coupled with hot spiked eggnog was just the beginning. We stayed in the Lioness Room in the Carriage House and loved it. The room was spacious and had everything we could ask for including champagne, a fireplace (they provide the wood) and ample storage space. Due to covid they have a grab and go towel and toiletries set up in the Main House, but I liked being able to grab an extra towel on my own and hope that stays. Kurt (the owner) was nice enough to take me around to see the other rooms and every room looks like a page out of Architectural Digest. Not your dated B&B, the inn is traditional only in the warm service they provide, but the rooms are modern (just renovated as of June 2021) and comparable to a chic 5-star hotel more so than the typical inn. Beyond the gorgeous rooms and the amazing location (walking distance to the center of town) - the true gem was the staff for me. I asked a lot of questions and everyone from the chef to the maintenance staff took the time to talk to me and have a warm conversation. The Cornell Inn's motto is kindness and you truly feel like family from the moment you walk in the door. Without a doubt there is nowhere else I'd stay in the Berkshires and have been raving about it to anyone who will listen. read more

We were looking forward to our stay at the Cornell Inn after the James Taylor concert at Tanglewood on July 4th. I booked a room back in February and received a confirmation to that effect. Hooray! However, last week I received an e-mail telling me the reservation was cancelled. I immediately called the Inn and spoke to a very nice woman who assured me that the reservation was still on the Inn's books, and who then reaffirmed the reservation and sent another e-mail confirmation. A day or so later I received an e-mail from the Inn's corporate owner telling me that the second reservation had been made in error, and the whole mess was the result of crossed signals between booking.com and the Inn. The e-mail did say that I could re-book, but the cost of the room is now roughly FIVE TIMES the original booking back in February. I e-mailed the Inn, relating my disappointment, and asking it to reinstate the original booking at the original price, but no reply. Now, we either have to find another place, not nearly as nice, at a similar rate to the original booking (not easy at this late date); or pay the increase if we want to stay at the Inn. Not happening, and we will simply drive home after the concert since staying local is no longer a viable option. Based on this experience, I will never deal with these knuckleheads again. read more

Now that we've discovered this spot, we'll be back to discover all 4 seasons! Very friendly staff and the ambiance was warm and welcoming. Room was small but cozy, loved having a wood burning fireplace in my room. Rooms were also recently renovated. Breakfast left something to be desired though. Unless you have a sweetooth at breakfast you won't find much to choose from. I personally don't like sweets and eat vegan so had no options except for a fruit cup. We went out for breakfast instead at a local cafe. For a B&B I'd expect a more inclusive breakfast menu. The complimentary afternoon and evening drinks of apple cider and cognac were nice gestures, but not for appealing to us so did not benefit from this service. Although a good room experience I'd look elsewhere next time so I felt the value of the food and drink amenities. read more

I traveled to the Cornell Inn in early December 2021. It was a long drive from Washington, D.C., and I didn't expect such a warm and wonderful welcome when I walked in the door late in the evening. The staff is tremendous from the front desk to the chef to the owner extraordinaire. You are treated as if you are family from the moment you arrive. The meals are delightful and the Inn itself is amazingly warm and engaging from the fireplace lounge to the bar to the restaurant. I felt as if I had traveled to an oasis at a time when we all need a little relief and escape from the difficult situation we now face as a nation. Spent a delightful extended weekend at the Cornell B&B a few weeks ago. What makes this place exceptional is the staff. They truly enjoy working there, and that attitude spills over into their interactions with their customers. Nothing is too much trouble. The staff exudes joi de vivre. Best Inn in the Berkshires! August 2023 Why do we return year after year to the Cornell Inn in Lenox? It isn't just the fabulously stylish decor (with all rooms uniquely updated in 2021 by 23 different BIPOC designers). Nor is it merely the inn's convenient proximity to Tanglewood, several theaters, and all the lively shops and eateries in Lenox. It's all the little things that make staying there such a pleasure: the luscious breakfast served daily out on the charming patio, complete with home-baked pastries and piping hot cappuccinos made to order. The mouth-watering complimentary ice cream, brownies, and potent peach-mango sangria offered every afternoon. But most of all, it's the warm, welcoming, upbeat attitude of owner Kurt and his entire capable staff, who tirelessly took our breakfast orders and happily helped us upstairs with our luggage. They emphasize kindness and aim to please. And do they ever! What's not to love? My only complaint is that we had to leave. But we will be back again. Next summer... if not before! read more

The staff was pleasant and helpful; you could tell the owner really put a lot of effort into what they do there. The breakfast was excellent. We felt very pampered after leaving. Being at the Cornell Inn is like someone transported me into Gilmore Girls and let me stay with Lorelai and Rory- in the BEST way possible. I've never had such a picturesque, worry free stay. The place is heavily patterned with upholstery and wallpaper, had rooms named after famous First Ladies, and puts the local newspaper over a statue of a little man. It's kitschy, cozy, and absolutely amazing. The rooms and beds are comfortable, plenty spacious. In the morning, you can have breakfast freshly made (with amazing ingredients I might add), pastries baked that morning and coffee with local cream awaiting you. The breakfast room is sunshine filled and looks out into a beautiful backyard where you can also sit and enjoy the mini waterfall. Lenox itself is very cute, resplendent with great restaurants and quiet, stunning walking trails. Come here to forget about all your stress and pretend your life is like a TV show. read more

Lovely Inn nestled just up and out of the way of the road in/out of Lennox, MA. It's a short 0.5mile walk to town -- a nice mix of an easy walk to restaurants/festivals and just far enough away that it's quiet. The Inn is large but feels quaint. There are three separate buildings, and ample parking space. The staff is super friendly and available from calling, emailing, to book. I was glad that booking on an online travel site was accurate with all the horror stories of other places not knowing how to manage multiple travel site listings -- these folks are internet savvy enough to know what they're doing. We stayed in the only king bed suite in the house --specifically finding/booking it online because of it-- which was super necessary being so tall. It was on the first floor just off the living room but wasn't noisy (albeit with the AC unit on). The bathroom was a tad small which was unfortunate considering the choice of getting a large bed likely being associated with big persons... and it didn't smell great from what seemed to be lack of ventilation. However, it was plenty functional. The breakfast here is rather superb. It's not made to order but rather buffet style but there's plenty of it. All varieties too whether you want to do low carb, vegetarian, carb only (go crazy!), or just get a good cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit. The apple cider and apple cider donuts were tres bien. The prices were fairly reasonable compared to some other Inns around and we'll definitely consider being back again. read more

First time at the Cornell Inn and definitely not the last. Their motto is "kindness" and every member of the team exudes that motto (and genuinely so), starting with Eugene who checked us in; he was very attentive and organized. The rooms were clean and nicely appointed. The afternoon cider w/rum and cognac happy hours in the lobby were a nice chance to chat it up with other guests. The breakfast crew was delightful and the meals were fresh and delicious. My only issue is that I requested a lactose-free breakfast option when making the reservation (there is a place to enter special requests on the online reservation form) but there wasn't one offered on our first day. It was a busy morning in the kitchen so I opted not to ask for anything off the menu. On the second day, however, there was a lactose-free option offered so I didn't need to ask for an alternative. All in all, A+!!! read more
