First time at the Cornell Inn and definitely not the last. Their motto is "kindness" and every member of the team exudes that motto (and genuinely so), starting with Eugene who checked us in; he was very attentive and organized. The rooms were clean and nicely appointed. The afternoon cider w/rum and cognac happy hours in the lobby were a nice chance to chat it up with other guests. The breakfast crew was delightful and the meals were fresh and delicious. My only issue is that I requested a lactose-free breakfast option when making the reservation (there is a place to enter special requests on the online reservation form) but there wasn't one offered on our first day. It was a busy morning in the kitchen so I opted not to ask for anything off the menu. On the second day, however, there was a lactose-free option offered so I didn't need to ask for an alternative. My husband and I had the pleasure to get away for my birthday and stay at the Cornell Inn! The amazing hospitality by one of the innkeepers, Tim, was wonderful! Every morning for breakfast he would check in with us throughout our meal to make sure everything was adequate. Upon checking in, he even carried our luggage into the room we stayed in which was ever so kind. We had a hot savory and sweet breakfast with tea, coffee, juice and it was all very plentiful and very filling. It was buffet style setup which made it even better! Throughout the day there would be coffee readily available and muffin or granola treats left out if you wanted an evening snack. The view sitting outside the property for breakfast was beautiful as well! The reason I would give a 4-star instead of a 5 is a couple minor things for the following: - we stayed in the Teddy bedroom which was a 4-poster bed on the Carriage House property residing on the 2nd floor. What attracted me to this room was the balcony that had a couple of chairs and a small table that overlooked the backyard. The area got sun mostly in the afternoon which we did not get to fully enjoy as we were mostly away during the day. The bed itself seemed a bit too big for the room so made it kind of difficult to move around, and there was a really comfortable rocking chair in the corner beside the bed but it was somewhat crammed in so hard to move around. I would suggest moving it next to the brown dresser near the entrance of the bedroom door and shift down the dresser - have the chair closer to the wall by the back entrance to the porch might make it more enjoyable to sit and move around in. - the bed itself was also not terribly comfortable and not very soft so felt was a little difficult to sleep. - the wifi was very spotty after our first night there, so if you are hoping to do steaming of any kind I wouldn't recommend it. Only stick to email, social media or browsing the web. For some reason after the first night, I was not able to get on the wifi at all with my phone, the computer was slightly better. On a side note, the room has a great walk in closet and Tim was so generous enough to put a mini fridge in there at no additional charge to keep our items cool. Also the bathroom had a whirlpool function in the tub which was relaxing as well. Also be mindful that it may be easy to pass this property on the road as it is on a Main Street, and the sign is rather small. What can I NOT say about The Cornell Inn in Lenox? :-) After 3 days of researching where to go for my husband's 36th birthday, we blindly chose The Cornell Inn and we were not disappointed one bit (from our first communication to the last goodbyes). Western Mass was in full fall foliage peak so it was an extra treat, but the B&B itself would have been more than enough (magic and wonderfulness). We got to meet Sam, one of the owner's sons, and what a delight he was. He served our breakfast table each day and my 3 year old daughter still talks about him to this day! The breakfast food was homemade yumminess (it will not disappoint at all), and me being a neat freak, the rooms were clean and tidy, especially comforting to know/see in times of Covid. We were lucky to stay in "Edith", a room with a loft (and bonus; full kitchen!) and my daughter had the best time especially pretending that the upstairs loft was her 'pirate ship'. There is a fish pond that my daughter had the pleasure of feeding them each morning. The whole property is well maintained, cute and magical. The best part are Tim and Nell McCaffery, the property owners. They work hard and diligently to provide a warm, cozy and inviting place for visitors/travellers. Thank you so much!! Our room was slightly musty, and kind of high Victorian overkill. Some other (unfortunately smaller) rooms are more sedate and might more restful. My boyfriend and I had a magical stay at Cornell Inn this weekend. Our weekend at the Inn felt truly restful thanks to impeccable service. We arrived fairly late but the check-in was easy to navigate, and we were touched by the bottle of wine awaiting us in the room. Breakfast in the morning was another gem the Inn has to offer - it's rare to find such high quality and fresh produce at a café, let alone at a hotel! It was also a true pleasure meeting the hotel staff, including Eliza and Eugene, who were so kind and helpful throughout the stay. This place is adorable! We will definitely stay here again. I loved our room, we stayed in the Rachel. It is quiet and lovely, not luxurious mind you. Very small bathroom, modern quiet effective window unit air conditioner. I see a space heater in the corner so I guess that's for the colder nights in the winters but there's a working fireplace in the room. The proprietors have been here for three years so they are open to input. They are extremely gracious. I love that they serve breakfast from 8 until 10 in the morning, not a set one-sitting early time slot. I only have a few tips for them, such as an extra pillow and blanket in the armoire, extra towels in the sink cabinet, the bar sink doesn't work at all in our room and I don't think it's intended to so why not replace it with a microwave or coffee pot something else. Otherwise the color scheme in this room is so relaxing. My favorite feature was the deck overlooking the courtyard under a beautiful tree, I sat there three times in three days for a long period of time doing my needlepoint - that would be the one reason I would get this room again, the deck location is ideal. It's on a somewhat busy street but all in all it didn't bother us. The advantage is it's close to town and an easy walk or drive to everything in Lenox. My husband and I had an absolutely perfect babymoon at the Cornell Inn! Our stay started with a small snafu where the room we booked had accidentally been marked as cleaned, but wasn't -- we were immediately upgraded to a better room within minutes (the entire inn has been redone and our room was beautiful and clean, as were the common spaces). When Kurt, the innkeeper, learned about the mistake, he checked in with us and gave us a free dessert at Oasis, their recently opened burger bar out on the back patio, which was really above and beyond. The backyard is spectacular; it's the perfect spot for dinner or a drink and live music, plus you get to admire the grounds and koi pond. We also had breakfast outside on the patio, and the menu was great. It changed every day, and always a nice selection. Every staff member was so lovely and kind. We had an amazing experience at this place. It was our first time staying at a B&B. My husband and I completely fell in love with the INN. The INN is into business since early 1900s, hence you can see the beautiful antique and Victorian touch to every corner of the inn including the rooms. Tim and his family own the place, who made sure everyone was well taken care off. Excellent hospitality and the breakfast spread was outstanding. This is one of those difficult reviews to write. The good SO GOOD, yet the bad was composed in my brain as I lay in a disgruntled state of half-awake, the sweet pleasures of sleep just beyond my grasp as my next door neighbor hacked and snorted to an episode of Fraser through the paper thin wall. The houses are gorgeous and creaky, ensconced in a beautiful plot of land, all waterfalls and tea lights. The owners are a completely charming husband and wife team who bend over backwards to make sure their guests are having the classic Berkshires experience, the kind of place where James Taylor would walk by and give an approving nod. The food was outstanding - a sweet carb heaven of french toast and fruit crumbles and various jams and jellies. We felt completely pampered and beloved. But the room. We stayed in "Ida", and while it was fine overall, it definitely smelled a bit musty, and when my boyfriend dropped down to the bed, it...collapsed. He is not a huge dude. We managed to fix it, but overall, it definitely felt as though the whole hardscrabble place was betraying its age. We could hear every word coming from our neighbor's TV, and every additional cough, snorfle, and grunt. And though this is a PG-13 rated Yelp review, suffice to say that it made us wonder what everyone hears outta everyone, this being a romantic B&B and all. While we would return indefinitely for the food and warm hospitality, I think we'd give one more room a chance before officially calling it. read more

This is a husband and wife owned inn... Both Tim and his wife are charming and seriously care about the experience of their customers. When I first went to book a room here Tim took me through the available rooms adding information past the pictures online. As well, I let Tim know that my girlfriend and I are both Vegan and he said no problem... we'll figure out some special foods. More about that later... So check in was a breeze and we were very happy with the room. They set the temperature cold to make sure we were chilled when we entered from the very hot humid air outside. The "George" room was very nicely appointed with a lovely private backyard and patio. It was too hot to use but on nice days this would be terrific for tea and coffee time if you like privacy. The only real exception to this room is that the TV provided is tiny considering it is about 20 feet from the bed so don't expect to watch TV in bed. This is nit picking but I did feel the sink and mirror area in the bathroom could have been made with higher end pieces. Overall the inn is maintained extremely well... I digress though because I want to talk about the beautiful property complete with pond and waterfall and beautiful outside seating in the backyard both on and off the deck. Oh, and it would be a failing not to mention that the team in the kitchen worked hard to try some new Vegan recipes out. And guess what, the other guests ate as much of the Vegan offerings as we did. Congrats guys, you'll get a whole new crowd of Vegans now that everyone knows you're Vegan friendly. Before this gets to be a full book sized review I want to mention that Tim took us around and showed us a bunch of rooms before we left. I would say most of the rooms we really took a liking to but we both agreed that Lucy in the main house was one of our favorites. Cornell Inn - Front of Main House - Bed & Breakfast Near Me - Lenox, Massachusetts

I had such a nice, relaxing experience at the beautifully quaint Cornell Inn over MLK weekend. The Inn is comprised of a few buildings right off of Main Street in Lenox. It's a prime location -- about a 3 minute drive to the downtown area (lots of restaurants and shops), and about 15 minutes to Great Barrington and other surrounding towns. We stayed in the Martha room, which had a very comfy four-poster king bed, a wood burning fireplace, fridge and coffeemaker, and a small seating area. I thought the online booking system was very convenient and easy to use for a non-chain BnB, and was happy to see each of the rooms before booking. I had a tough time deciding between all of the beautiful rooms! The Inn serves buffet style breakfast each morning from 8-10am in the main house. Breakfast was delicious and had just about everything you could want -- muffins, fruit, cereal, eggs, pancakes, french toast, sausages, and hashbrowns. There is also a small pub in the main house. We spent most of our evenings out on the town so didn't use it, but it would definitely be nice to have if the weather was too bad to go out in. We didn't interact too much with the owners, but everyone we met was very nice and helpful. We arrived to freshly baked treats in the main house and were shown quickly to our room. They graciously allowed us a later check out the day we were leaving and made us feel welcome and comfortable throughout. I have two small points of complaint that make this a 4-star review instead of 5. We were looking forward to spending some time in front of the fireplace watching movies. While the TV did have cable and on demand, the wifi in the room was poor and we could not connect our chromecast. We also couldn't stream on a laptop. Not a huge deal, but a little disappointing in the moment. I also think the towels could be replaced as they were a bit rough. This year it was New Years 2017 in the Berkshires. Our friend found this wonderful bed and breakfast. We had a great room with fireplace and they even provided a duraflame log. The complimentary breakfast was awesome and the complimentary homemade cookies and hot apple cider just awesome. The grounds were beautiful. This place is 1st class. The Cornell Inn should be on everyone's list as THE place to stay in Lenox village. The rooms have been redone and are chic and very comfortable, yet in keeping with the vibe of the lovely old buildings and the character of the town. The staff is warm and helpful (with great senses of humor - much appreciated these days!) The breakfasts were delicious and the serve staff attentive. I loved being able to sit outside by the koi pond, watching the leaves fall while sipping very good coffee in the morning. My requests were immediately seen to and I felt welcome and cared for. How do I give the Cornell Inn Ten Stars?! My mom and I make a yearly summer trip to the Berkshires and discovered the Cornell Inn about 10 years ago. It is hands down our favorite place to stay! It is in a great location, within walking distance of the shops in Lenox and a quick drive away from Tanglewood. The property is immaculately cared for, with a variety of cozy rooms to choose from. There is a delicious spread for breakfast every morning, and tea and cookies offered in the afternoon, with an option to eat outside on the deck, next to the garden and a little koi pond. But mostly, the folks managing the Cornell Inn are just terrific! Tim and Nell McCaffery are so lovely and make you feel welcomed from the minute you make your reservation. They have hired a wonderful team, too, who you can tell enjoy being there, and just want their visitors to have a relaxing, enjoyable stay. I compare everything to Willard Street Inn in Vermont now, which may be unfair, which is why Cornell Inn only receives 4 stars instead of 5. We checked in on Friday afternoon. Service was friendly and we were shown to our room "Barbara". It was on the first floor right next to the dining area (which had fresh homemade cookies, coffee and hot cider all day every day). Pretty convenient. The room itself was fairly spacious and cute. Breakfast was great. It was a buffet including seasonal pancakes (pumpkin and lemon poppy seed when we were there), a french toast option, a couple frittatas, sausage, potatoes, cereal, yogurt, fruit. Overall, a really nice spread. We were able to walk to downtown Lenox for dinner both nights, so location was great. My only minor criticism would be that the bed wasn't super comfortable. Most B and B's I've been to really go out of their way to make sure the bedding is insanely comfortable, but not so here. That being said, I would definitely stay here again. read more

Such a lovely Inn! The epitome of New England. My girlfriend and I stayed here last week and booked the Truman Suite. Perfect for two women traveling together. We each had our own room and space, but we were connected by a small hallway. Tim, the owner, was very friendly and accomodating. Very comfortable beds, hot shower, lovely grounds, and full breakfast in the morning. Staying here was an excellent base to go south to Great Barrington, east to Northampton (WEBS, if you're a knitter! and just a one hour drive) north to Williamstown (just a 45 min. drive) and all the lovely towns in the area. The Berkshire towns are so quaint and picturesque. I've stayed in many Inns in England and the Cornell is up to par with those. The same kind of ambiance and feel. We were so pleased, we're already booked to return next year. read more

From the reservation to the easy checkout, The Cornell was a wonderful experience. I am still pinching myself wondering how we stumbled upon such a great find. The staff was courteous and attentive. The buffet style breakfast in the morning was delicious with both traditional and imaginative options (i.e. Pumpkin Pancakes, Blueberry & Peach French Toast bake...soooo good). The room was clean, cute and fit our needs perfectly. I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone staying in the area. It is in no way luxury, but definitely quaint. We booked this Inn at the last minute and were surprised by the affordable price! When we got there, we were amazed by how lovely the buildings were. We stayed in the carriage house, our room had a king bed, VERY comfortable, TV, fireplace, sitting area, coffee maker, refrigerator. It was very relaxing and quiet, with ample parking. Both mornings we had breakfast in their breakfast area. The food was very good and very plentiful. Lots of choices! Tim made sure every time he saw us that we were happy with the food, the building, our stay, etc. They have a little pub with beer, wine and liquor and a sitting area with fireplace in the main building. The staff was very attentive without being overbearing. Everyone made sure we had what we needed. Very friendly place. We loved it and will definitely go back! read more

The Inn's comparatively low rates, the awesome breakfast, the location, the friendly and knowledgable owners, and the charming home itself made for a memorable stay. We particularly liked the small bar area on the first floor, which was a great spot to hang out and relax after dinner. This inn has many pluses, and one big minus, it is very close to the main road so noise can be a problem on busy weekends. If that's an issue with you insist on a room in the back. The inn is fairly typical of east coast b&bs with a colonial look and full of nick-knacks, but the sense is its more image then reality, although the main building itself is quaint with lots of interest. There are 2 adjacent wings going to the main building, we stayed in the "MacDonald House - Elijah room." We chose this room because looking at the internet site it looked spacious it was not, we found it to be cramped and not very comfortable. The common rooms are spacious and the garden is lovely, but again, where the internet gives the impression of spacious grounds it is not. For those interested, a full bar! Friendly staff, clean rooms, we would stay here again if pressed for a room during the busy season, but it wouldn't be our first choice due to the location. read more

This was our 2nd stay here at the Cornell and still our favorite B&B here in the Berkshires. It is Coziest home and our room w a fireplace helped us relax and have a great sleep. There aren't words for how amazing the Cornell Inn is! We usually stay hotels so we weren't sure what to expect, but we were blown away with how much fun we had here! The staff was so friendly and welcoming, despite us arriving late in the evening. There were fresh baked goods available each day throughout our weekend stay. The breakfast was literally the best I've ever had! The rooms were so quaint, each with it's own charm. We stayed in the Lucy and were given a log for the small fireplace in the room! The location is great, walking distance to shops and restaurants to Lenox center. The grounds are gorgeous- it was snowing while we were there, so we didn't get a chance to really enjoy it, but it will be gorgeous in summer! We will absolutely be back! read more

They had an amazing special going, so it was an even better deal. The property is beautiful and the rooms were lovely. Breakfast was delicious! Overall we had an amazing stay and were thrilled. I see the other reviewer had issues with the road noise, but we were at the front of the inn and had no problems. It was low season though, so that may be the difference.
