My project was immediately responded to and they were able to help me move two weeks later on their soonest available date. The three movers, Pat, Renaldo, and Kevin were incredible. Communication leading up to the move and theday of was great. They were able to move all my large furniture within 2 hours. Everything was wrapped carefully and efficiently. They were kind and thoughtful, helping me make adjustments to the furniture layout once we got to the destination. Their positivity through one of the hardest situations I've ever gone through was much-needed and made me feel confident in entering this next chapter. I even had a last minute change to the destination (originally everything was going into storage but I ended up finding an apartment just in time), and the professionalism and patience from the entire Bookstore team through this change was excellent. Pricing was reasonable yet again and came out to about $500 (excluding tip) for the truck fee and moving of 16 large items. Thank you Bookstore Movers for helping me when I needed it most!

We had a dedicated elevator, yet workers often brought items down only one or two at a time. I also saw team members on their phones or standing around in rooms and hallways instead of actively moving things. These delays added up quickly. The crew also misplaced parts of our bed frame, and the pieces had to be found before it could be reassembled. That alone added nearly an hour to the move. Because the move took much longer than expected, the final cost was significantly higher than the estimate we received. We were also charged based on an arrival time that was recorded as ten minutes earlier than when the crew actually arrived. The team was courteous, but given the inefficiency, added time, and higher final price, we would not use Bookstore Movers again. This is unfortunate, because we had been happy with them in previous moves.

He was able to get his brother to help and acquire another large truck so that we were able to stay on schedule. The entire move was incredible. The movers wrapped everything incredibly well including many large paintings etc. they didn't damage the house we left or the house we moved to or even 1 piece of our furniture! It was very hard to believe actually with the volume and size/weight of many of the items. Upon arriving at the "Public Storage" facility at Seven Corners in Virginia, my daughter and this patient moving team were welcomed by a serious issue not previously disclosed. The elevator was out of service, and the storage unit was on the third floor. The gentleman could have requested a reschedule right then, but no. The BoxStar Super Stars jumped into action. They moved my daughters one-bedroom apartment out of the storage unit and into their truck in record time, including a very heavy sleeper sofa, down three flight of stairs in a narrow stairwell. From the storage unit, they moved her belongings into her house, placing every piece of furniture with expert care. The items were mainly consolidated into main areas, anticipating that it would make it easier for the moving crew to quickly pack and move the items to the trailer. They were here for over 9 hours, packed the truck half full vertically, but filled the 28 foot horizontally. This is something I would expect from college kids who have zero experience as you get charged every foot horizontally you take up in cross country moves. So now, not only are we out $2300 for these movers, we are out an extra 3k because they used twice the amount of space that was actually needed if they had done it correctly. Military and families and federal employees- go anywhere else. This was an absolute disaster.

So after receiving a few quotes from a handful of businesses, I went with Potomac Moving due to the speed of their response, clarity in communication, pricing and overall warmth and professionalism. In our first phone call to walk though my needs, they were very assuring and accommodating, which is a such a relief in the midst of stress and coordination that comes with planning for a move. They were also always very responsive in the few times that I reached out between the time I paid the deposit and the actual move. A night or two before, I sent at email regarding wardrobe boxes, since I was debating whether or not I should buy and have a few delivered to me. The owner responded quickly, assuring me that wardrobe boxes were tried, true and if I wanted to buy any directly from them that I could. That ended up being a great call, because they were able to properly enforce the boxes so that even the boxes filled with my heaviest coats remained in tact. On the day of the move, the movers were communicative regarding their arrival time. They were also very nice and hard working. I had a few large furniture items that needed to be disassembled and they ended up being quite beasts to tackle. But they worked diligently to break them down. Once it came time to move things to my new place, that was a breeze. One gesture that I thought was just so classy, was the owner called in the middle of the move to check-in on how things were going - I really appreciated that. While the crew arrived on time, there were only three movers instead of the four that were expected. I was then charged an additional $120 for an extra hour. One of the movers openly admitted that he had been out all night and was exhausted, which was evident in his performance throughout the move. The most frustrating part is that I moved into a brand-new construction home, and the movers caused significant damage. They put holes in my walls and scratched my stairs. I understand that minor scuffs can happen during a move, but these were deep gashes and holes that require repair. Before the crew left, I brought the damage to the attention of the lead mover. He told me not to worry and said I could file a claim using the claim number on my receipt. Since then, I have called multiple times and have not received a single callback. The only person I have been able to reach says she is in sales and cannot help me. No one has contacted me, and no repairs have been made. Also, they have the ability for you to estimate an inventory of your items online as oppose to manual. This is helpful in planning your move. Affordability and accommodating are the main selling points and delineation with this moving company. NewRay accommodated my move which required transporting and moving items from my home as a first stop.......to making an additional stop to an UHaul Storage facility to pick up additional items as part of the move before heading to my final destination. On the move day, the movers arrived during the time window expected and were great. I must admit though, I was a bit frustrated with the size of the truck promised and offered for my move. 2 Star deduction for not offering the truck promised nor communicating /updating me on the change. It almost felt like a bait switch move. The truck was unmarked (no company logo) and too small for the number of items and stops I knew we had to make, but we made it work despite items being crammed in the truck.....not to my satisfaction. Also, we had to carry a number of items in our cars to alleviate over-cramming the truck and/or causing any damage to expensive--special items from my home. Between packing items in our cars and their smaller truck, we were able to handle the move needless to say. The workers most of all deserves a "high-five!" They put up with a lot from me that day and understood my frustration. They were efficient, fast and worked very hard. They were even patient and accommodating to assist in the packing of items, as to I was still packing when they arrived. Upon arrival to my new home, they took great care and attention to moving items into the house and assembling furniture. Everything arrived safely, with an exception of minor scratch and ding to a bed frame and large standing floor vase. In all, the decision to go with NewRay movers was not all bad. Despite the misunderstanding on my expectation of the truck size expected and discussed with Sasha, my move was handled competently. Scheduling was easy and the entire process in all honesty was seamless. Not to mention, the price point (hourly rate) was one of the better rates offered in DMW for my move. Although they do have a 6% credit card surcharge which is bit steep, this is something that was made at least clear upfront. Would I recommend NewRay Moving or use them again? I must be honest, I am on the fence but would consider them as "an option" if there was a need for another move at least due to how nice the workers were and how accommodating they were to our needs.....despite the management and Sasha's mishaps.

They were also very patient when one of the cleaning guys in the building inadvertently block the loading dock and needed to move. After that was corrected, they came right to my door and loaded everything up very efficiently, even wrapped up my couch in like 2 minutes! I was running a few minutes late to my new place and needed to still get the elevator key from the leasing office. These guys are pros: they had started to bring some of the boxes to my apartment and just kept the train moving without being asked. They also communicated clearly throughout. The prices they charge are more than fair considering the level of service they put out. They also use a web quote system that keeps everything transparent (you can also create an inventory). Would definitely recommend! Pro tip: They discount if you pay cash.
