This has been a go-to restaurant while traveling for years, but rethinking this after several visits lately. The workers either seem very new or untrained (it's hard to determine. But the real let down was the very much smaller portions and the incorrect serving. For example , we ordered eggs over easy and received hard fried eggs. The Biscuits were almost raw dough. That was on the last visit. The service was extremely slow and the could see less personnel. When you order the $5 special addition for "take-out" they may bill you. It forget to bring it . He was running around being a team player by helping the other servers even though his hands were full. He was very attentive to our needs and his other patrons. We talked and got to know him a tiny bit. Usually at that age he would be a college student. It was the best experience we've had at that particular restaurant. Service was very slow at 10:00 AM. People served their food before us. And had been seated after us and ordered after us. Our food was not warm as if it were recently cooked. The food wasn't the same as it has been. My meal has bacon . It wasn't the same. We both think it was microwave bacon. This location was the best. Had a taste for some good old fashioned pancakes. So I came to Cracker Barrel. To my surprise the pancakes were not up to standards. The butter on top of my cheesecake was solid hard. I looked at them and said, "ok this is not what I was expecting ". My server came back about ten minutes later and asked me was everything ok. I said to him look at the butter on top of my pancakes. We really did not like that at all. We understand that sometimes the manager may have to bring their child to work with them, but they should not be handling anything that is brought out to the customers. My wife and I recently moved to Opelika from South Florida where we had a favorite breakfast restaurant. Our goal was to find a new favorite in Opelika. My wife remembered liking a Cracker Barrel in Ohio when she visited many years ago, so we decided to try the local Cracker Barrel. This visit was a "once and done". There were no menu items that weren't dripping in grease or crusted in sugar. Even the plain water tasted like it had been sweetened and flavored. Our meal was expensive and not very good. Now that Cracker Barrel has joined the ranks of Bud Light and Target, we will never return and never recommend it to anyone. The ambiance was what we remembered and our service was OK. Normally the food and service are admirable. However they seem to never be able to accommodate heavy traffic days and nights. Today's was one of those days that they absolutely failed to meet expectations. Upon arriving and registering at the hostess station we patiently waited as normal. To be seated (hostess was playing an individual game of checkers when we arrived and stood waiting) 2. For our waitress. I am a dieheart Cracker Barrel fan but this was THE worst experience. I went on a Thursday and had that days special. Special was turkey, dressing etc. I ordered a salade, as my side. Haven't been here in a while so I thought I'd stop by Cracker Barrel for some veggies while I'm traveling up the highway. Always the same with the good vintage treats out front but I was looking for veggies so I got in got a table got waited on immediately as usual, I looked at the menu to see what I wanted. I opted for the turnup greens, the corn, fried okra and mashed potatoes with some sweet tea. Came out very fast. I was very tasty, as well as the cornbread and biscuits. I think I'm used to Local pubs with fried okra being freshly fried as these were clearly packaged and frozen, but they were cooked right and crunchy But for Cracker Barrel growing up as a kid and I'm now in my 60s, and the kid being 20s and 30s I went there for fresh vegetables thinking that was the standard. But today so many restaurants are getting better with their fried presentations of things like okra, fresh, battered, fresh fried, I'd love to see Cracker Barrel go to that metric so it competes more with the local country food places welcomed by everyone. We love CB but this location was disgusting! 1. Bathrooms haven't been cleaned in weeks and reeked of urine! No toilet paper either. If you weren't nauseous from the food you will be when you step into the restrooms. I let the 3 staff members at the counter know the bathroom needed to be cleaned and toilet paper and they said they are short staffed while she was on her cell phone and eating candy from a jar. 2. The food was absolutely disgusting! Half of our food was cold and the other half was so dry. Husband chicken could have broken the window and my sons hamburger steak he couldn't even cut it with a knife. My other son got country fried steak and literally got sick to his stomach it was so bad. Again we love CB and travel often but the Opelika location needs new management to take the lead and raise the standards. The only positive was our server was friendly but it took 30 minutes to get silverware to put butter on our biscuits and cornbread. Napkins came about 45 minutes after seating. Food took over an hour and my dumplings were sitting for about that time! Yuck! Oh and to top it all off they charged us and extra $3 for more hot water for my hot tea. Super disappointed and unlike any other Cracker Barrel experience I have ever had. Arrived to a line about 6 parties deep. Not a big deal, except the poor hostess would find out how many in the party, then go bus the tables by herself, to repeat for each party. She was working so hard. In the meantime, a manager was stocking potato chips on a shelf next to the hostess stand, simply saying "someone will be with you." Got through all that, got seated, and sat for a good 15-20 minutes all while being completely ignored by all servers. When my friend & I travel on business...Cracker Barrel is definitely one of our "go to" places. Sadly, this visit is one we'd like to forget. We had a very sweet waitress who brought our drinks & wrote down our orders. My order was not difficult but turned out to be a nightmare. First of all, I asked for Grandma's blueberry pancakes with bacon & eggs, 3 sugar free syrups & extra butter. Three different waitresses brought my order in 3 different trips a few minutes apart from each other. First trip from the kitchen I received the pancakes & one sugar free syrup. A few minutes later, I received the eggs on a platter. Each time I reminded the waitresses of the missing 2 sugar free syrups, extra butter & bacon. About 5-10 minutes later, I received the two remaining syrups. Again, I reminded the waitress of the extra butter I had requested as well as my order of bacon. Several minutes later, I finally received the butter & started to eat while the food was barely warm bcuz I just knew (from past experience) that remaining items usually are brought out in a timely manner. After finishing my meal, my waitress brought out some very over done/ burnt edges bacon & I had to tell her that it was too late & that I was finished. She apologized profusely but it was a little too late. She brought out tickets out to us & my ticket was $17+ & my buddy's ticket was $37 & the ticket was for someone else's to go order. We'll, I was extremely dissatisfied & disappointed so I asked to speak with the manager. He came out, apologized & fixed out tickets. Each ticket ended up being $10.80 which was reasonable (although I never got my order of bacon in a timely manner). We told the manager we were satisfied with the revised tickets but this type of service was very unusual & unacceptable to say the least. We may try to visit again in the future & write this one off as an anomaly...but if we have a repeat, this particular Cracker Barrel will be struck from out "to go" places. read more

After calling ahead and pre-paying for my order, I was treated with extreme discourtesy by the manager who "ordered" me to clear my order with the cashier before I could touch it ( just as I was about to do just that thing). I am not in the Army any more and I don't take orders from people I am paying . Located right off the highway, Rt 85, in Opelika. Met a friend for a late breakfast. Luckily we talked for a while because service was delayed a bit. We received drinks and then a disappearing act by our server. We got it fixed and the rest of our experience was good. It was a busy Saturday morning. Many thanks to this particular Cracker Barrel for ruining my Saturday night. The food poisoning I got from the broiled fish entrée I was served after an inordinate wait for a server, being moved from one section to another, and then for my food (which arrived lukewarm and tough) gave me severe diarrhea, nausea, sweats, and fainting spells. I had come to a local bar for a show, and had to leave before the show even started. In 30 minutes I went to the bathroom three times and became nauseous. I had gotten a motel room because I knew the show would run late; in the end I spent an hour on the toilet with my face in a trashcan, and then passed out on the bed. I will never eat here again. They totally ruined my evening, and to have a free Saturday night is a rarity for me. read more

As we walked out, one gentleman at a table had his shirt on top of his head. I've mentioned this before to management but it does not do any good.
