I'm not sure why so many people hate on this place. It's a Cracker Barrel and honestly, one of the cleaner, friendlier, better food tasting ones we have been to. Stopped here mid day for a quick bite to eat that wouldn't break the bank. Service was very nice and prompt, and the food was very tasty. I had the grilled chicken breast with two sides and I was very pleased. Wife had the country sampler and it was all very good. I'm only docking a star because they pushed too much merchandising on us in the country store trying to check out. Not a fan of that practice after we just paid to eat the food. read more

We had a good waiter named Mario but my food was terrible. I had the pot roast with mashed potatoes and fried apples. Sounds good? NO! The meat was dense and hard. The mashed potatoes were over seasoned and I thought I could eat my favorite...fried apples. The mashed potatoes were over seasoned and the apples tasted out of the can. The biscuits were flavorless. I was so disappointed. I've given this place so many chances but I am done. It was so good for so long and have continued to go further downhill. The overall quality of food in Cracker Barrel has declined. We have been for a few meals in last year or so and have decided it's not for us anymore. Breakfast may be the only thing going for them. All of our pancakes were hard to cut, and hard to chew. The sausage patties were also very hard to cut and chew as well. Asked for biscuits when we ordered and the server said I'm not sure with y'all's order you get them, but I can bring you some. Never did. Food came out and asked again for biscuits and finally got them. Over 25 years eating at Cracker Barrel's From Central, North and East Texas this was the worse food and service. This is our second time as traveling through the area we have eaten here. Last time was great. This time was not. Will think twice before stopping again here. read more

Both IHOP and Denny's were packed on Sunday morning with people getting brunch. Cracker Barrel was closer so we decided to roll the dice and tried getting a table during the peak breakfast hours. It worked out in our favor because it was only a 5 minute wait to get seated. Everything is bigger in Texas. The Old Timer's Breakfast was enough to feed two people. It came with two eggs, grits, choice of bacon or smoked sausage, fried apples or hashbrown casserole, and biscuits with gravy. For $8.99 it was definitely a good value with leftovers! Service wise things were good as our rising star server checked up on us several times to get us coffee refills, waters, and we were even offered another refill in a to go cup. read more

I think the greeter tries too hard and I dont like being followed around when Im browsing in their store. We were seated rather quickly and our drinks came right out. Dinner took a bit long and then mine was not ready when the rest of the group received there dishes. Once I had mine and had my first bite of the chicken, it tasted strange. In my next bite and the bite after I found paper in my food. Getting boxes and drinks to go took longer than expected. Did get a credit on my dish. We've tried this Cracker Barrel a few times before, but this experience was just too good not to post about. You can never go wrong with Cracker Barrel on a cold and rainy evening, between the fire and cutest country store, it's the coziest place for the season. We were seated super fast, but I forgot to ask to sit closer to the fire (because why not right?). Our waiter Erik was phenomenal! He was kind, quick, and very accommodating. We asked if we could move to a table closer to the fire and he delivered! The food was pretty much perfect! We got the Homestyle Chicken and French Toast plate, and the Chicken Tender platter with fries, dumplings, and fried apples. Let's just say we had no leftovers to take home! We were brought biscuits and cornbread (which were very good), and our waters and coffee were kept full the entire meal. Came in on a Tuesday morning at 11:00 and was seated right away. Waiter came straight over to greet us and ask for our drink order. We got our drinks quickly and ordered right away. Took only about 10 minutes to get our order (there was two of us). Our waiter continued to check on us and give refills. The food was exactly how we ordered it and hot. We ordered 2 thanksgiving dinners because we were both down with the flu. I usually like Cracker Barrel meals but this was pretty awful. We got a tiny piece of dry turkey, a scoop of terrible dressing, a tasteless serving of plain green beans and a little sweet potato mush. We had a tiny side cup of canned cranberry sauce and a yeast roll. This also included a decent sized slice of pumpkin pie but it was so bad, we threw it out. This location needs lots of training. The management needs to retrain the kitchen and servers. Our waitress didn't bother checking up on us or asking if we needed anything. She only brought 2 glasses of water, and we had 4 members at the table. The eggs were undercooked and raw. They messed up multiple orders and they charged us for everything, even after taking away our meal when we said we didn't want it anymore. It was a very bad experience and I do not recommend this place for anyone. Will not be returning. read more

Just tried out the new Cracker Barrel in Hewitt. May be my last time there. Service was terrible. Should have known that when I was the first to order and she read it all back so she would have it right. And you guessed it. Mine was wrong. Not sure how you can make that mistake when the waitress was the one who showed me where it was in the menu. Then didn't get our salads before our meal which wouldn't be a biggie but they didn't come until we had finished our meal. Had to ask for cornbread and got that about half way through. Previously, I have eaten at Cracker Barrels and the waitress brought the rolls when we sat down and would keep them coming. Also, our drink refills were non-existent. Another thing was they brought all the food out for the adults first and the kids had to wait several minutes before their food came out. Really horrible service. We have frequented this restaurant many times. Each time we say we won't eat there again, but out of convenience we end up doing just that. Today, our experience was horrible. I called in an order to go, and was put on hold for 14 minutes (not the peak hours either.) My steak, which I ordered medium, was burned on the outside and way over done on the inside, and so tough it was inedible. Our dog couldn't even eat it, and she'll eat anything. My husband's steak was very tough as well. Vegetables were just ok. Really getting tired of paying for something inedible, regardless of from wherever it's ordered. Store is clean and conveniently located on I-35 near Hewitt. It is smaller than most Cracker Barrel's, which may have affected our service. Like most Cracker Barrel's, it was crowded and noisy. We got our food quickly and it was good. However, we felt like the wait staff was trying to process us through. They kept asking us if they could take our plates before we were finished. I can understand once - but it was 3-4 times we were asked, by more than one staff member. It was obvious they were trying to process us through to get the next family seated.
